Just wanted to put this out there, I know theres been a lot of interest in porting android, so thought maybe this, as an idea, had been side stepped.
Having seen a few demo's of the New(ish) Meizu M8, it does have a very slick interface, and as far as i'm aware it is based on windows mobile.
How difficult would it be to port the Meizu rom to the diamond?? Surely it would be a lot easier than some of the other large projects that are running.
Its not that i'm desperate to have an iphone interface on my phone, but it is one of the slicker winmo implementations i've seen.
Just an idea, worth discussion if nothing else...
Good question...... I would like to see the same thing for the Sprint TP!

Iphone on diamond!!!!!!!
just in case anyone know how to port meizu xip... here is the new firmware (0.9.0.0)...
http://www.meizume.com/m8-firmware/7812-m8-firmware-0-9-0-0-a.html
rapidshare: http://rapidshare.com/files/187099084/xip_0.9.0.0.zip
Would love to see this on my Diamond!
well there will be issues: as Meizu M8 uses Win CE instead of WM6.1, which has lot more differences in the code. though i'm not a programmer but to me they seem like 2 diferent plateforms.
released and started shipping on wednesday:
http://en.meizu.com/news/MeizuM8OfficialReleaseDate827.html
The mMobile UI is rubbish..
Simply another iPhone clone on WinCE 6.0. I don't think it's worth to use.
so why do you care about this thread then?
screen shots??
e.g. http://mobilearsenal.com/new/new_meizu_m8_screenshots.html
how can be used? on a diamond??? this is a bin file ??
It cant be used.
chinmay007 is right, this is based on a completely different OS - not a chance of it working.

From memory the relationship between WinCE and WinMo is similar to that of DOS/Win3.1 in a really basic way -> WinMo runs over WinCE and provides the user-layer functionality/experience, hence it may still be possible to use this OS.
ive been watching those ppl for the almost a year awaiting the release... then i bought the diamond last month and the m8 is finally out it would be awesome if it was ported but superbly doubted
Hi guys !
I did not understand one thing: I can install this ROM on my Diamond? it is dangerous? Thanks
I suppose you could rip some of the packages and convert them from the 720x480 resolution to diamonds resolution 640*480.
The OS maybe could be converted, but still all resolutions had to be adapted.
Not impossible, but a lot of work.
ok . THX for the answer
Guys, i've a question :
I've downloaded the MEIZU M8 ROM , but in the .rar there is a .bin file ONLY . How can I extract IT ?!
I'm sorry , but i'm ignorant on this subject but I'm curious
Hey,
today i have seen a video of the new HTC Hero with the HTC Sense GUI.
I also read that the new Windows Mobile Phones will have this GUI.
Does one of the seniors know if this GUI can be portet to Touch Diamond?
Hear a little promo video;-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCodXvFrz5E
Greetz
if htc would release it on wm ....
in this case sense runs on android...so we have to wait ..maybe it will be released on wm 6.5
Farcical question. Please have some self-respect. This is currently on Android.
First try and get Android ported, if you want it ported from Android. If you want a WM version, then let it at least release or leak before you can even contemplate such a question.
Looks very similar to the palm pre's os
I read that the new Windows Mobiles Phones will have HTC Sense to.
So if the Touch Diamond 2 will updated with Windows Mobile 6.5 and HTC Sense there will be no problem!?

O come on!
I think HTC intend to have this interface on all of their new handsets, WinMo and Android both. There's also been some talk of it coming out on the Touch Diamond 2. No doubt some enterprising hacker from XDA-Devs will come up with an installable version for various phones.
I think the main problem might be if the phone assumes a Widescreen format (e.g. WVGA) rather than the diamond's VGA. I think the HTC Hero is actually lower-res than WVGA though so perhaps this won't be an issue.
The Hero is HVGA (320 x 480) resolution. HTC have said that the "Sense" interface will be available on "some" existing products. Best guess is that it'll only be available for those products that require minimal effort in porting. They have a vested interest in selling new phones, not propping up old ones

I don't think so. Nuke1 was correct. How can we consider a porting job when the UI is released on another OS and on a resolution currently not used on our phones!
You guys bit down on him too hard. The original question is exceptionally far out. There is no software or evidence to even investigate into porting. It hasn't happened yet so there is no basis for an answer...?

And spot on. I'll put money on it that most phones coming from HTC will be WVGA so if/when Sense UI makes it's way to WM it will most likely be in that resolution. Which will equate to a porting job for VGA devices.
However there is no such software released in any resolution for WM at least, so as I said above, even considering porting it (at this stage) is simply impossible.

I just didn't see the point of this thread considering the Android version has barely leaked, and here we have a guy asking if a WM version can be ported, while there's still bugs in Manila 2.
If it was simply a question, then post it in the general Diamond section, not the ROM section, esp. at this early stage.

You are wrong mate... Microsoft had already stated that no device that was available at the time of the Windows Mobile 6.5 announcement would receive an offical upgrade.
So there's absolutely no chance Windows Mobile 7 will be available for the HD, only the HD2 and future PDA releases

I do not doubt the ability of any of the developers on xda and i am aware of how well the porting of Android is coming along. For your information, I have spoken to a few friends on xda who have been members of the forum longer than I have and carry good knowledge... they have also confirmed this fact and advised me it's unlikely to happen.

Mastoid is right..!
The biggest glitch is the HD's hardware as it is incompatible with WM7 in that the new OS requires a capacitive (multi-touch) screen.
When hardware restrictions are involved, not even the top XDA members can help.

i knew there were restrictions but i was unsure of what kind exactly. Unfortunately, as you stated, the HD does not support the pinch-to-zoom feature.
Thank you band27.
If you watch the WM7 UI on youtube..you are gonna see them using the touch pro of choice and some other phones to promote windows mobile 7..so it is obvious that touch pro and diamond users are going to have WM7 on their phones too.
EDIT watch it yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MNbmkes8Lc

Time will tell as it is now nothing more then a waiting game.
The full capacity of WM7 can only be unleashed through the proper devices. Diamond and touch pros are not these devices and if WM7 makes it to these devices in some shape way or form, it will be interesting....
The argument in question was specifically dealing with whether or not the HD could support Windows Mobile 7 - it has been justified that it cannot due to hardware requirements... i rest my case.

You have not made a valid argument yet you have some weird standards of what it means to have the "hardware requirements" then.
Touch Pro has 528 MHz so does the Diamond, HD, Xperia X1, and the TP2. Devices with 528Mhz and above, are ABLE to run Windows Mobile 7. Enough said ^^

just that you're not unleashing W7's potential.
It's just like having a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which supports HD videos, on a currently-officially-running-under-Windows-Mobile-6.5 HD2 , or if this is unclear, another example: running Windows 7 on a PC with 200Mhz processor and not-touchable-monitor
here's a major requirement that HD not fulfilled:
Touch: Multi-touch required

unless you provide resistive multi-touch software and reconfigure our HDs and so on.
WM7 will not be coming to the HD officially or unoffically, case closed....some of XDA's wonder developes may be able to get some builds working on HD, but these will be limited and you will never see wm7's full potential. It would like having a ferrari, but being restricted to 1st gear and 30 miles an hour. May look nice on the HD, but whats the point of having it
Thread closed
hi all,
I read this thread just now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857188
I wanna talk about the same thing but that thread has been closed.
According to some website, I found both G10 and iPhone4 are based on ARM architecture. I have use IDA to analyse some files in iOS 4.2.1 update packages and I found it use ARM7 instruction set. So I think there is still some possibility to port iOS kernel to G10. Is there anyone who also interested on this? Could you tell me something useful about this project? Thanks a lot.
BTW: If you think this post makes no means, please do not laugh at me as the guys who has done this in the thread above. I only talk about my idea. Although this idea maybe impossible to be implemented. I hope you can give me some adivse, information or others, not your ridicule. Thanks in advance.
It's about as likely as getting windows phone 7 to work on the DHD. Without the source it's probably an impossible undertaking as the kernel will need to be rewritten with the correct hooks and drivers to work on the DHD.

Someone Swyped my idea.

Yes, I was agree with your opinion. The driver is really needed to be written for a new device. But for some basic peripheral such as touch-screen, may have a common driver between iphone and desire hd?

Highly unlikely in my opinion, if you want iOs on your phone buy an iphone.
BTW I'm sure if you did manage the port you would be unable to connect to iTunes to install apps so would be restricted to clydia etc

Nowadays Android can run well on iPhone. So why not try to port iOS to Android phone?
I think a major issue would be the screen resolution; the DHD runs at 800x480 and the iphone4 runs at something like 960x640 this would mean that everything would just be wrong, and most probably wouldn't do anything at all. I don't think that it would really be viable for a dev to work on something like this, especially as quite a few of us (me for example) moved away from iOS for Android.

hmm... Resolution is a issue only for application developers... It should not be a problem for kernel porting I think.
i have been highly involved in OSX86 which is where you are porting mac osx to work on windows machines and from that, i can safely say that this project would involve so much work that you are essentially rewriting the whole OS

Yes. To driver the peripheral device, we have to write all the driver or at least, modify the original driver. Without the source code, this would be too hard.
BTW: Is it possible for us to port xnu(or the kernel of mac os x) to ARM platform just as iOS do?
And why would you want to
Sent from my leedroid 1..... ah the latest one Desire HD
you don't have iOS source right, you will have to disassemble and go thorugh lots of code, replace a lot of things, then fix so that every thing works in a flow..
This will take years! with no assurance of success again. you may also have to find security holes in iOS again to load it on a different phone.
If you had the source then few months!
Not to mention a possible law suit from Apple.
Hi folks.....it s possible have dualboot on DHD?how to install win7 on DHD? It s possible porting os6 of blackberry on DHD or HD2? thanks.....
^^^^ no its not possible right to put up Win7 on DHD! don't think anybody is going to work on that also.
But Win7 is ported to HD2, or not? Correct me, if i'm wrong. And if it's ported to HD2, it should be possible to port it to the DHD.
I think the problem is only the boot not the porting....because on the HD2 is possible load win7, linux, winxp, android, ecc ecc.....

Anyway, why would anyone want iOS?I find it pure bs.But even if there was a way and a reason, would porting it be important enough to put you against Apple?Because, and excuse me everyone for the language I use,the bastards over at apple can sue you for naming a product with an "i" in front!
hi, i was wondering if there is any possible way to dual boot windows mobile and android on the desire hd? if not, are there any plans by the xda developers to pursue this issu?
Thank you
+1 I want windows mobile on my DHD only because I love the mod.
Sorry but I doute this will happen, though we have many talented ROM developers on here WinMo is closed source, thus not allowed on our devices. In contrast android is open source that is why other phones have both if they're licensed. It could happen but it won't happen here.
Again sorry to dispoint would of loved to try Windows Phone 7
WindowsMobile is impossible. WP7 is possible since hardware are almost identical, even same digitalizers...

I think he meant impossible from the legal point of view, because Microsoft would sue XDA and shut it down. I'm still hoping someone releases a dual boot anonymously.
