okay so heres the thing......i have a rooted g2 with s-off on ultimate droid rom. but just today the power buttom stopped working and there no way to turn off the screen or anything that uses it. and when i take out the battery to turn it ff you can't turn it back on until its plugged into a charger to where it then goes to clockwork recovery mode. im sending it into warranty and there sending me a new phone. is there any way they can find out if its rooted or would they send my phone back? any thoughts?
My originally G2 was unlocked and rooted with custom roms. One day the screen was sort of crapping out on me. I took the chance and sent it to HTC, and they just sent back new or refurbished model.... all I know for sure it was not my original G2.
Unless you think you can fix it yourself, you might as well send it back to HTC to see if they'll fix it, worst case scenario, they'll return it back to you...

Rage gfree. If you have insurance with your carrier let it get stolen and get a new one

I broke my first G2 after 6 months of use. Its rooted and everything and while it looks almost new with no physical defects the problem is that the screen won't display any color - just all pitch black backlight. So I called t-mobile and they are sending me a brand new g2 while I send my broken one to HTC for repair. Anyone been in the same situation as me? It's not like they would reprimand my new phone if they see that I rooted the broken G2

Who knows. I will say that I have never heard of anyone getting charged as long as there was no water damage. Please let us know how it goes.

Worked for tmobile. They may charge you a restocking fee if the phone is flagged once it's repaired.

i broke the screen on my Desire z a while back and had to send it to HTC while it was rooted cause i couldnt do a factory reset on it without the screen being on... they fixed it and sent it right back to me with no issues...
my understanding is that the very first thing they do is do a factory reset on the phone just in case the issue is software related...
so as long as u didnt go S-OFF i think you will be fine... make sure to let us know wt happens once u find out...
3 month bump: T-mobile didn't find out anything so I'm good, got a brand new rooted phone. S-off and everything; the screen just didn't work. I wonder what the person who fixed it was thinking....
hi guys
My Niece spilled tea over htc desire which was soaked.
I shook most of the tea out and attempted to dry it with a hair dryer on cool setting. However most of the liquid went inside the area which you can't get at unless you unscrew it (which will completely void the warranty).
I have attempted famous rice bowl thing which helped desire working. All button like home, menu, trackpad, back and search are working (ThankGod). One problem is battery is draining very quick and some times phone just does go to sleep it keeps waking up when ever its touched. Do i need to replace the battery?
I have checked battery usage and it says Display is using 67% and cell stanby 6%.
so Im unsure as to whether I could attempt to return it to Orange i have insurance for it.
1- If i return it to Orange would they mind that i am running lee droid hd rom running on my desire not their ROM which came with the phone? Does this void warrenty.
2- Does insurance cover tea or any liquid splidge?
Any advice on this guys would be great?
They won't accept it with the leedroid Rom. You will have to return it to stock. Use the gingerbread ruu to do this. Check the water sensor on the battery and on the phone. If these are red they might not accept it.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If those water indicators are red they will definitely not accept for a warranty claim unfortunately

He said he had insurance? I would think insurance covers accidents that warranty does not, at least I hope my phone insurance does.
I will check for water indicators. I have insurance with orange will this cover that?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I thought if a phones water sensor was red the warranty would be voided.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There's a difference between warranty and insurance...
Warranty will cover a technical breakdown with the phone. Insurance will cover accidental damage to the phone (including water/tea damage I would assume), if not it's pretty rubbish insurance really.
My mistake, I must have misread the op
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
Water indicator is showing as red. Shall I ask orange to send me new battery because phone is working alright. Phone does not go to sleep which makes battery drain quicker? Apart from that every thing is normal.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
You say its orange which unfortunately doesn't have an ruu yet, was the phone bought direct from orange? Or carphone warehouse? The problem you have is if its a branded orange handset you have no way of returning it to stock, did you by chance note down the hboot screen before doing root? If yes can you please post, I will be able to tell from that if its branded or not.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Oh my bad if you have insurance it should be fine. He doesn't need the orange ruu he can just flash the gingerbread one to return him to stock.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks guys for quick replies. My phone is soff as well. How can I s on it?. My phone came with orange Rom installed on it. Will that make any difference?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
To s-on your phone download the alpharev dowgrader hboot. Then run the gingerbread ruu. It doesnt matter that you were on Orange. The gingerbread ruu debrands the phone anyway.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Okay guys just rang orange they are ready to replace handset without any fuss. He asked me if I want black desire or brown. I said black he said it will be in stock in 2 days but if I want brown he will send today and will arrive 2morow. I asked for black.
Shall I downgrade hboot or not bother they r sending the new phone anyway? What do u suggest downgrade hboot and flash gingerbread ruu or return the phone without doing any thing?

I've been down this road with Orange Insurance. Turn it on, chuck it in a sink full of water and kill it good and proper and forget the custom rom stuff. They're going to exchange the phone at the door and expect to see a water (tea) damaged phone. Kill the phone good and proper is my advice and forget trying to switch to a rom that won't be detected by them. <Legal disclaimer - I do not advocate using the above methods to defraud your insurance, the advice given is purely hypothetical>. (Worked with my N80)
Thanks for reply. I have already told orange phone is working but battery is draining quicker and phone becomes hot. Orange still sending me replacement phone. Method above sounds risky. I am waiting for more advices before I try your method. Thanks.

Hi,
My Desire HD one morning didn't start when i tried and neither receive charging.
The only sign of life is a mille second of life from the screen as I insert the USD-micro cable. This sign of life is only when the battery is out and I insert the cable.
No LED light
No vibration
No sign of water damage (on battery at least)
What could be the problem, dead battery? Motherboard?
I have repaired a couple of HD2 before but hoped I wouldn't have to fix this one as well..
/Sam
Seems to be a hardware issue, maybe motherboard, you should try to un-root your device and send it for repairs if its still under warranty.
How can he un-root it if it doesn't start?

You can try connecting it to your pc and see if you can communicate with it via adb.
How strict do you think htc are when it comes to the worst case scenario having to send a rooted device back under warranty repairs?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
I think it just depends on your luck, I recently sent mine in cause it didn't want to start and I couldn't unroot it but they repaired it without any hassle.
That's what I thought. Guessing it all depends on the repair guy whether it's worth the hassle for him to fill out paperwork saying its rooted and voids warranty or just fix it quick without any hassle.

While trying to flash the new rcmix3d rom I encountered an error while trying to flash it. Someone came to the conclusion that it was the hboot version I was using and recommended I upgrade it.
I took the advice and upgraded hboot to the latest 2.16, flashed the rom and finally gave me no error. The rom booted up but I realized while trying to get rid of bloatware after every reboot it would all come back.
Checked Hboot and apparently I lost my s-off, which I didn't know was gonna happen. So now I'm back to s-on, still have my ra 2.3 recovery, and apps are still able to establish root within the rom.
Problem is I want to get my s-off back but from what I've read you have to have ur phone connected and use adb but the usb port of my evo broke a while ago. Is there any other way I can get s-off back? How about using adb wireless? Any help is appreciated.
That's pretty wierd... but no you will need to use the USB cable. The computer needs to be able to reboot your phone to boot loader and a few other things so the wireless adb won't work since the rom isn't booted up during 75% of the root process. Best bet would be either be trying to wiggle your USB cord in your phone till it connects and re-root or run an ruu from your SD and get back to 100% stock and take it to sprint for a replacement. Since your USB port is considered a manufacturer defect they will give you a refurb for $35. I would know since my evo bit the dust on Christmas and got a refurb yesterday.

My usb port is just completely broken it just moves around everywhere. I actually tried going in to a sprint store about my usb port and they completely just told me to file an insurance claim even though I said it was considered a manufacture defect. I might try again though, you've given me a little bit of hope. lol
Can anyone tell me what benefits do I lose by having s-on? Looks like I'm stuck like this so I'd like to know what ill lose. I know now I can't get rid of bloatware with titanium backup and that sucks and I can't update Su binary anymore, but what else?

That's worse than I thought...so if I at one point wanted to switch to twrp I wouldn't be able to? I mean I have ra 2.3 right now and I'm quite satisfied so I don't think ill be trying to switch. Not being able to flash some roms is really a big let down. I need to get this USB port fixed.

Hi!
I have successfully rooted my HTC Desire HD two months ago. I installed Sabsa Prime v v6.5.
But today it does not work. When I turn it on I will see only black screen. I can´t even get in bootloader. I think that motherboard is broken.
My Desire HD is still in warranty, but I can´t get in bootloader for unrooting phone and erasing data.
Do you think that is any chance to unroot mobile phone and obtain warranty?
Or I can normally send the phone to claim warranty repair?
Thank you for answer.

Have you tried pulling battery for a few seconds and then entering hboot. Also if that doesnt work try using adb after you turn it on from black screen to reboot to bootloader. Adb is easy to use and there are plenty of guides on how to do so. If non of this works then you will be fine. If board is shot they will have to replace it and won't be able to see that its s off since your emmc is part of board.

Thank you for answer! I have tried all your recommendations and the Desire HD is still frozen in black screen.
So you think, that I can obtain warranty and they can not identify, that my Desire HD is rooted with unofficial android Sabsa Prime?
Yeah you will be fine.
