Hey, XDA
I'm having strange issues with fresh 16 GB microSDHC (Class 4) and Starburst ROM (Lite 1.3.3.3), both with Data2SD and without it.
I get up to 2200 in Quadrant Advanced, XviD and FLAC seems to play fine, but actual performance is much worse. Sometimes it won't ask for PIN, won't turn on WiFi, fail to wake up, apps load very slowly. No F/Cs, luckily.
That card doesn't have any manufacturer info written on it (bought it in store however, packaging said "Nokia", who knows). It seems to work fine, full 16 GB, connected to PC, though, no write speed issues, too.
Finally, I've restored to stock 2.2 ROM so as to exclude phone hardware and flaky sdcard issues. It works like a charm, so problem seems to be in software.
Also, Starburst ROM has worked fine for months on stock 4 GB SanDisk (Class 4), including Data2SD feature (the best thing made for Desire, hands down).
If DroidZone or Sibere sees this thread, big ups, guys - you've made one of the best ROM / feature for Desire
If you have some ideas of what I might've done wrong or whether it could be an issue with Starburst ROM, I'd be thankful for some clarification.
P.S. Running with S-OFF & ClockworkMod 2.5.1.8
P.S. I'd put this in the Starburst ROM thread, but can't due to this being my first post.
Hey cralias,
you said that "Starburst ROM has worked fine for months on stock 4 GB SanDisk (Class 4), including Data2SD feature". Is it the same rom and the same data2sd, which you have installed at the new card? Nothing changed?
That was an older version, 1.2 Lite (I think?) when there was only one Data2SD version available.
However, 1.3.3.3 Lite seems to work fine with the 4 GB card, both with and without Data2SD (Uberfast edition).
I will try Standard Edition today, to see if maybe updated kernel fixes stuff...

When you very first installed starburst did you restart right away and install the data2sd installer?
I been running starburst now for over 1 month and had no problems also using a 16gb PNY sd card from play.com

Yup. Didn't configure Wifi nor Google account, just Language, Timezone and then reboot to recovery.
No luck with 1.3.3.5 either.
Could it be an issue with FAT32 allocation unit size? I've set 8K (using EASEUS here, it's default).

Try using the newer data 2sd scripts with xe or we. they're on the beta section. Try a re partition and install the rom followed by new script. Should eliminate lags for slow cards
Swyped with my Starburst based Desire. Forgive any typos!
No luck.
Well, I've come to a conclusion that all problems come from a flaky SD card, whatsoever. Phone doesn't like it. I will use it for some other purpose until it dies of old age.
Just another lesson for me not to buy crap at stores.
Thanks everyone.
And once again a special one for Droidzone and all involved for Starburst ROM/Data2SD. This thing roxx0rz
Hi Cralias, you've already drawn the correct conclusion, but just to reassure you, I've had exactly the same kinds of problems with Starburst and kingston sdhc cards. Starburst worked fine on the sandisk that came with the phone but not on two brand new kingston 16gb class 4 cards. Got a sandisk 16gb class 4 and Starburst was fine.
You're right, Droidzone and Sibre desrve mad props for this ROM, it's how the device should have come out of the box.
As you've correctly deduced, the key to making Starburst reach it's potential is a reliable and quick SDHC card.

Hey guys I have a few questions to ask. Wen I first flashed my first sense 3.0 gingerbread rom it had recommended to partition my sd card cuz of the amount of memory the rom used up. I followed the instructions carefully to partition and it seemed to have been successful wen I was done (I think I used Amon RA recovery). I have a Lexar 32gb class 10 card and since then I have flashed several 3.0 sense gingerbread roms and my internal memory on everyone has always been around 90 to 110 mb causing my phone to be extremely laggy. At the point wat should I do? Is there a way to check if my card is partition properly? Should I try to repartition card or would this cause me to have future read error problems on my sd card? Any advice wud b helpful, THANKS! Just want my phone to b fast like it was before.

I don't think its your SD card partition that's acting up, some phones just don't go well with certain ROMs. What ROM are you using? Also you can always try overclocking by flashing a kernel that supports it like either netarchy's kernel or Lithid's Freedom kernel(the latter of which is my personal favorite) that should reduce lag.
Sent from my Synergized Freedom Evo.
Well lets see the first one that came out I think it was the Viper Kingdom Rom, then Kings Rom Alliance 3.0 Hybrid 3D, Kinged Shooter E3D and one more but I cant remember wat it was. Thats 4 already so I dont think its my phone thats not taking good to these roms. Ive tried flashing different kernals and that did not work. There must b something that I can do to fix this problem. My phone never had problems with any froyo roms only the new gingerbread roms. Now I will tell u I hav not flashed the new radios,PRI or any of those updates, can that maybe b a factor? Wud u recommend me to do so?
Hey guys.
A while ago I`ve rooted my hTC Desire and did an S-OFF, to be able to install custom ROMs.
I`ve "tested" a few custom ROMs, but none of them seemed to be stable.
Currently I`m on SuperNova_Classic_2.0.2.0 with built in Data2SD (iData2SD)(the idea is to have a stable rooted ROM, with DATA2SD and Sense), but every time I flash the rom, then install my fav apps, the phone keeps freezing at certain points, sometimes it runs OK for a week - with no freezing - other times it freezes in the first couple of days after ROM flash. I`ve tried not to install that many apps, but I`m still facing this freeze problem.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Here are the steps I took for ROM flashing
1. Created a 1GB ext4 partition on SD-CARD, preceded by a FAT32 partition(as required in the tutorial of Supernova)
2. Rebooted into Recovery - wiped data/factory reset; wiped cache partition; wiped Dalvik Cache
3. Installed the ROM zip file from SD-CARD; on first boot, except for the Wi-Fi connection, I haven`t touched anything(google accounts etc. - skipped all steps - ), waited for the system to stabilyze, then did a normal reboot in order for the DATA2SD function to work. After next reboot, DATA2SD was working properly(I even had the pink LED light up), Storage Information was showing the 1GB ext partition as an internal memory.
4. Installed all my apps, configured phone, widgets etc.
This way, at a certain point, the phone simply freezes, have to remove the battery to be able to use it again.
Here are my phone specs:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANel-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
Transcend class 4 - 16GB microSD card
I`ve searched and searched on xda-developers, but haven`t found an answer for my problem, yet.
What am I doing wrong here?
Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated !!!
This is no help to you.... but I'm having exactly the same issue.
Sometimes it freezes when starting a game, but most of the time it won't unlock(ie phone unresponsive when I try to wake it).
This is not ROM related as it happened on several different Roms, with a full wipe between. I'm not overclocking.
The only things I can think of are:
-Partially corrupt ext partition on SD.
-failing hardware.
-some other sw issue ie radio(which has worked for a while before this started happening).
Thanks for your reply, Shaun - it does help, at least now I`m not alone in this
You`re right, it`t not ROM related, I`ve tried different ROMs myself, same problem.
I`ve also tried another SD CARD (class 2).
I don`t think it`s the radio, I have the latest version, the version required on Supernova tutorial for best compliance.
I really don`t want to believe that it`s a hardware fault, as I didn`t overclock either and always read/followed the exact right/official steps in root-ing/flashing ROMs.
I`ve reinstalled Supernova now, with absolutely no additional installation of fav apps. Going on 2 days with no freezeing, so far.
I`ll keep post-ing if any new developments occur.
Cheers.
You've not installed any apps at all? hmmm.
When you do re-install your apps(I assume from Titanium backup?), it'd be interesting to see if it starts freezing again.
This would then suggest either a dodgy app that we both have, or titanium backup itself causing the issue.
What SD card specs?

I'm using the same card that i've had for the last 18 months-
it's an 8gb class 2 card with 768mb partition, the rest is Fat32.
I`ve started reinstalling some of the apps, the most important ones, like iGo, YahooMessenger, YahooMail, etc., but didn`t use Titanium Backup, installed them manually using Market.
So far, so good, no freezing.
My SD CARD specs: Transcend Class 4 - 16GB; 1GB ext2 partition for apps, and the rest is FAT32.

I could be wrong, but from what I`ve seen so far, I would recommend NOT to use widgets that require superuser permissions. Also, before flashing any pre-rooted ROM, be sure to turn "Signature verification" OFF, in the phone`s "Recovery" screen options. If your ROM has any kind of "Data2SD" scripts integrated, after flashing ROM - at first boot, DO NOT configure anything (google account, sync, etc.), DO NOT download/install any apps yet, ONLY enter the Wi-Fi settings(if that is the case); leave the system to stabylize, then do a normal reboot(if the ROM supports "Fast boot" - turn it OFF before rebooting). At second normal boot, the DATA2SD scripts should kick in ( u should see the phone`s notification LED turn to: pink or blue - depending on the script used by the ROM).
A class 2 is a definite no no for Data2sd IMHO. Class 4 is debatable. I had a bit of lag with an older version of data2sd on a class 4. It may be better now, Depends what speed the card writes at really. If its minimum for class (4 MB/s) that could be a bit touch and go. EXT 4 would be the best option for the 2nd partition
I recommend using an a2sd+ solution temporarily to see if the freezes go away
I would mind the lag, I didn`t get any lag using my card though, but just saying, would mind if it would be laggy, the real problem is the constant freezing I`ve had.
If it`ll freeze again, I think I`ll go back to stock Froyo, use Apps2SD and install only the bare minimum.
U know, another thing I never quite understood, I think hTC makes one of the best smartphones on the market, but they limit their possibilites with small batteries and very little internal storage space. What`s up with that?

I'm not using Data2SD. I'm using A2sd+. Same partition that I used on my Hero, and now my Desire for the last 14 months. Still getting freezes.
I don't think it's a speed issue.
a2sd should be fine on a class 2. What a2sd solution is it? Did you move dalvik too?
Its just a logical approach thats needed.
1) Eliminate the SD card by not running from it.
2) Change the rom
3) RUU
If after all that it still freezes, sounds like HW....

Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking.
I'm currently on InsertCoin with A2SD+. I was on LeeDroid, then RunnyMede before that with the same issue. I did a full wipe when swapping Roms. Not sure about Dalvik- if it's done in the Rom then yes, otherwise I haven't consciously moved it.
1) I might try a different SD that i have lying around- Nandroid it etc.
2) As above, already done that.
3) Last resort. Although a rooted RUU wouldn't be a massive issue for a day or 2.
If it's HW, I better get some insurance.
Edited to add: my SD card is actually a class 4. SD card tests suggests read speeds of 19-20mb/s and write speeds of 7-9mb/s.
Fixed my issue. It's the Kernel. Apparently the latest 2 kernels have the ability to undervoltage when not in use. Unfortunately, this can also cause the lockups i've(and possibly you've) been experiencing.
The last kernel without this in is: 2.6.35.14_110911.
This has 100% solved my issue and I recommended flashing it if you still having the same issue.
Great.
If I get another freeze, I`ll flash the 2.6.35.14_110911 kernel u`ve recommended.
Thanks a lot, dude.
If ever in Romania, look me up, got a few beers with your name on them

If it`s not too much to ask, could you possibly post a download link for that kernel version?

Did you flash the kernel while on existing ROM, or did you reflash de ROM as well?
And what ROM are u using with this kernel?
try using the earlier versions of super nova and data2sd, I also had the freezing problem but that was AFTER I upgraded to the newest version of supernova and data2sd
I`m using the 2.0.2.0 version, not the latest 2.4.0.0.
Earlier than 2.0.2.0?

Use the latest Supernova and see. It has a pretty good kernel.
Hi
I set my desire up with the supernova rom but had to ditch it after a couple of days due to very frequent random freezes. (data2sd)
Now I've got Leedroid 3.0.8.2 and that's giving me random freezes though to a much lesser extent.(a2sd+)
The Rom before I used Oxygen with no A2SD and this gave me no crashes but I desperately need the space due to my works email taking up all my storage!
So basically I wonder what I should do next. Is there anything I could try to fix my current setup. Is it worth reflashing? What's the likely culprit for the pull battery freezes?
My SD Card is a class 4 sandisk 8gb.
Alternatively I need a ROM which has
Very Stable!
A2SD+
Sense (Any version) OR…
Equivalent to 'Lock phone after' in Screen Unlock dialog*
*My work requires a PIN but the above dialog stops the pin being required if I have used the phone within 5 minutes!
I'm not bothered about the latest sense or loads of bells and whistles.
Thanks for any help!
Check Runnymede AIO.
I'd repartition the sd card before I do anything else.

I got a class 6 4gb ad and I tried several ROM all with the CM7 and 1gb part.
I experienced just 1 freeze with the insert coin.

Now I'm on revolution, pretty much visual stunning but have bugs on fast boot
Is cm7 extending the memory as you want?

Sorry to jump in here, but I had issues along the lines of the OP, your post caught my eye.
I went from an 8GB card to a 16GB card and my Desire would freeze at least twice per day. It sometimes went a whole day, but when I woke up, it would have crashed, always required a battery out and in to fix.
Went back to my 8GB card yesterday and its been fine since!
Is partitioning required to solve this? Would love to go back to my 16GB card!
Cheers
Check your sd card, if not - ask sandvold he lost one this way. Can be a NAND bug.

Likely to be a problem with the SD card; as others have said, re-format is a good place to start. Personally I'm enjoying the MildWild ROM (3.2). Can't find a lock phone after xx option though, sorry. It's very quick and seems very stable.

If you're looking for stable and fast ROM with a2sd method, I'll recommend you CyanogenMod 7.1 with int2sd script. It's really fast and works fine on most popular HBOOTS (stock, data++, CM7 r2).
Remember the order of flashing!
first: cyanogenmod 7.1
then: gapps
and after that: INT2SD
I have MildWild on my HTC Desire, its small enough to fit on the Internal Storage and give you approx 240mb for data/apps or it can be installed on EXT4 SD card partition.
Hi all,
I've had my EVO 4g for nearly 2 years now and recently stepped up to the 3D.
Over the last summer I had a terrible problem with my EVO rebooting using two different MicroSD 8 GB cards taking it into the Sprint store they said both cards are defective. So I bought a 4GB card and it worked nearly flawlessly since then (maybe a reboot once a month)
I had not rooted my phone until last fall when I bought a WIFI only iPad and needed to get the wireless tether option enabled...
Not knowing much about rooting or flashing ROMS and any of that stuff, I followed a sticky guide to rooting and went with the Warm 2.2 ROM from last fall.
When I got my EVO 3D I decided to sell my EVO 4G to my 20 year old granddaughter, I did a Wipe and installed CleanROM 2.0 which had rave reviews and I thought it would be as close to stock as possible.
I hadn't gotten around to wiping the SD card is it is 3/4 filled with my junk on it still.
2 days into her having the phone it is rebooting a dozen times a day for her.
Not good. I'm not sure if it's the new ROM or a corrupted spot on the SD card now?
If I just reflash the CleanROM 2.0 and then have the phone format the SD card might that clear it up?
No point doing a nandroid backup since that would have all my apps that wouldn't work for her, correct?
She really doesn't care about it being rooted, so what would be the easiest way to get it work for her in a stable way?
I apologize in advance if the solution seems easy to people hear, it seems complicated to me.
Thanks Crodley
Personally I would do a complete wipe and do a fresh partition on the SD card to remove anything you had on there. After that I would suggest installing MikG 3.11 as it is probably the most stable of the Sense ROMS.
I try other ROMs but keep going back to MikG as it performs flawlessly for me with no restarts or crashes of any kind.

The option is in the recovery but there are some easy to follow guides around the site.
Here are the basic settings and it's pretty straight forward in the recovery.
- Swap partition = 0mb ( If you must have it but doubtful, 32mb should be enough.)
- Ext partition = 512mb to 1gb (MAX 2Gb if you have loads of APPs)
- Upgrade ext2 to an ext3 partition (but not 4).

You shouldn't need to partition the card if you are going to have mikg on there.
It sounds like your granddaughter doesn't need anything that would require any extra steps on her part.
Just reformat the card so that its a fresh start. Put any ROM on there (mikg is pretty much maintenance free). And boot it up and test it out before you give it to her...
A partition would be necessary only if you or your granddaughter have a huge amount of apps. Something tells me that she's not a power user...
~ I'm a fungi
Your other option is that if she isn't going to use any root functions, just unroot it for her. You don't have to bother with s-on or relocking the bootloader, just run an RUU to get it back to stock. This should eliminate any problems, unless the rebooting issue is a hardware problem. You also don't have to worry about her messing anything up with root, since she won't have that ability.
Of course if she uses any of the root functions - wireless tether, overclocking/undervolting, removing bloatware, etc, then this isn't the way to go. You could just flash a rooted stock rom as well.
In my opinion, if someone doesn't know what to do with root, or if they don't use it, they shouldn't have it. It'll just complicate things.
Thanks for all the information, I wiped the SD card and installed the Miks rom so far all smooth as silk.

Nope still rebooting about a dozen times a day, we're going to swap the 4gb sd card with an old 8gb card and see if that helps...
Well, it seems the 4GB card was the culprit. After swapping in another card, no reboots. Yay!
I had bought the Desire in July 2011. I used it for sometime (3 months) until I got a new phone. The Desire was laying unused for more than a year now. It earlier had InsertCoin ROM and worked pretty well. Some months ago I installed 4EXT Recovery and BCM's ICS ROM. Played with it a for a day or two and it went into the drawer again never to be used, until now. I had installed a custom ROM only for the sake of the low internal memory issue. I had bought a SanDisk 16GB Class 4 card and made a 1GB EXT4 partition in it. The Insertcoin ROM worked okay and solved the memory problem.
When ICS came out, I wanted to try it. I looked for ICS ROMs for Desire and installed the BCM's ROM. This was a few months ago and I wasn't happy with it so turned it off and wanted to sell the Desire ever since. Recently, my friend became interested in it and bought it from me. He is a complete n00b when it comes to Custom ROM and things like that. I installed SpazeDog's ROM before giving it to him. The ROM presented some issues, it won't install apps like Facebook, Whatsapp. It said "Insufficient Memory Available". The ROM thread said that it came with some sort of m2sd script which was enabled by default. If it was then I was wondering why did I get the Insufficent memory issue. I disabled it rebooted it and the home button stopped working and all sorts of nasty things happened.
So, I need a stable ICS ROM which will show internal memory as 1GB and shouldn't throw any problems that my friend won't be able to handle.
I am back to the Android scene after more than a year. I was only familiar with a2sd and data2sd. This m2sd thing is new for me. I want a no-nonsense ROM that will show 1GB internal memory as opposed to the current one which shows a few MBs even though it claims that it has m2sd.
TL;DR
I sold my Desire to a friend and need a stable ICS ROM which won't have "Insufficient Memory" problems. I have 1GB EXT4 partition on a SanDisk 16GB Class4 card.
Use any rom you want + INT2EXT+
I dont think there is stable ICS/ROM though. (didnt tried them for quite some time, but pretty sure none of them is bug free - pretty sure all of them have camcorder with 15fps recording which is far from good as you can guess)
Or use amarullz ad2sdx,should work with most Roms.
Gesendet von meinem LG-P880 mit Tapatalk 2
if you want stability, use qiss rom; i recommend JB version though as a2sd scripts don't work with ICS version(u can use link2sd from market as an alternative). m2sd works fine on JB version.
other ics/jb have all some issues(camera, notifications etc..) which are quite annoying for everyday use.
edit: if you want it to show 1gb internal storage; when installing m2sd, choose r-mount
And what about the radio? Which one are you using? I've found problems with them, but I'm not sure if the problems are because of the ROMs or because of the radios.
Thank you very much!
