I am running miui 12.11.1, stock kernel. My droid incredible as the AMOLED screen. My home button and the lower left part of the screen no longer respond to touch input. I have to rotate the screen to use parts of my screen now or I can't type in the "a" on the keyboards, or pull down the menu in landscape mode. I've wiped cache, and full wipe, but it has made no difference. I also cannot mount the internal sd card but that is a known issue with this rom I believe.
I've also tried going to a completely different rom CM 6.1 stable. but I have the same issue.
Ideas or assistance would be appreciated.
this sounds like a hardware issue and is most likely unrelated to ROM/kernel/recovery
Sounds like the digitizer screen. Same thing happened to me. Look on Ebay for a new one.
this happens with certian Dinc's. i bought a new screen to fix my home button issue because they are linked, i ended finding out it was a loose cable but according to HTC its a rare problem and was isolated to a few phones
eh. . that is ok. If it is a hardware issue than I'm just unluckly. I guess I just need to remember to rotate the screen left instead of right. Is there an easy way to map the home button to the search hard button?
I guess if it is really annoying I'll sell it to one of the devs here who could put it to good use.
Doubt its a hardware issue so test it before listening to anyone on here. I have miui as well and I have the same problem then I did a nand and flashed a new rom and it worked but I restored and the nand and the problem was back. I thought it was kernel but I flashed different ones but that isn't it...i flashed the zip for data throttling instead of editing it myself but I doubt that is the prob...so I have no cle right now I was just going to give up because now I don't even get any calls so make sure you test to rule out a hardware issue because I doubt it is bc I have the same issue and they keep getting worse until I flash a new rom. I'll try to figure it out. Ley me know on recent changes you made so that I can have some help trying to figure it out.
Well, Like I said, I wiped, factory, reset and flashed a completely different rom (went from MIUI to CM Stable) and one side of the screen was unresponsive. I turned off the phone to put in a battery and now I have all my buttons and everything seems to be working again.

I've heard of issues with extended batteries where the pressure distorts the screen so it doesn't work...
Could that've been the case?
I doubt it was the battery, I had the original battery in there when it was not working and I'm using the extended battery now and it is working, both batteries have identical physical dimensions. It may very well be a hardware issue, I noticed that when I was having problems, I could not mount my sdcard on my pc. The cable was plugged in, the phone asked if I wanted to sync with the PC but it never showed up in windows. I did it just now (running CM6) and it works. The usb cable/port is underneath the home button so maybe that port is just fragile and causing issues? I never liked the location of that port, it should be on top of the phone or underneath, away from screen as much as possible.
Have been having a strange bug the last day. My screen will display everything in a sort of negative pixelated way, I've no pictures of this as it only last a few seconds or goes away when i put it to sleep and wake it. I reflashed CM 6.1.1, full factory reset and cache clear etc before flash. The strange thing was the clockwork recovery text was blue instead of green, and the android icon was also negative??
Anyone have any ideas? I'm assuming it has nothing to do with the rom as it was also happening in clockwork, could it be a processor issue or even a wiring issue? If the problem gets worse ill reflash stock rom and send it back but has anyone else seen this issue????
its probably your ribbon cable or a defective screen if so try getting it exchanged
Has anybody had this problem? only thing that I recently added was the tegra 2 app that lets you play high quality graphic games and such. Tried everything but phone screen will not turn on.
More info would be nice, rom, kernel...
So it is turning on, but not the screen, or is it not turning on at all?
Running the randomrom 2.2 with vision kernal on a ec05.. No idea. i was on the phone and some grey lines appeared and then got bright, froze and turned black. It would briefly turn back on depending how I slid open the keyboard but now its totally dead.. A new one is on its way right now though. No water damage but I'm guessing a faulty connection between the keyboard and the screen. the phone itself will work but the screen itself is just dead but the touch sensors still work lol
Well since you cannot see what you are doing on the screen, I have a feeling it was the tegra app, since the epic is not compat it could of been some issues. You stated you tried everthing, but dont say if you also tried going into clockwork..etc...I would first take the battery out so that the phone will be in the "off" state then try to see if you can power up the phone and get display when doing the (3) finger boot into clockwork to reflash/restore or try to flash via the "download" mode in Odin to start fresh all over again. If you get display there you go, and if not it looks like the display is shot.
I always try to do a backup in clockwork here and there just in case stuff like this happens after I install an app that screws up the phone.
Yeah i actually got the display to work the same day but the screen had to be slid open exactly right so I did a restore and nada.. Same with the battery pull which is always the first thing but I have a feeling its most likely a connection issue with the screen and the keyboard. As far as the app goes it is the chainfire 3d app that lets you play tegra games so sorry for that confusion. Ill just end up odining it back to stock and sending it back when the return package comes since I can still do that without having to see the screen.
10-4 sounds good
One way to fix it if it happens again is to set low end of mhz at say 400hz. The issues is that the screen goes to sleep and does not wake up. It happend to be a few times and after I changed the low end it never did it again
Hey guys! I recently updated my phone to 4.1.2 and noticed almost every time I go to use my phone and hit either the power button or the home button the recent app screen pops up instantly as if you were to hold the home button down. So far I tried a soft reset a factory reset with no luck. The phone worked perfectly before the update so I know it isn't either of the buttons sticking. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate your help, I'm at the point where I'm pulling my hair out haha
Thanks!!
Did you do the OTA (over the air) update Sprint pushed out, are you on a custom rom, or are you using a non stock launcher? Give us some details and someone, if not me, will help you out.
Also try rebooting. Some users in the past have reported that trying to activate recent apps properly (by holding the home) stopped working and a simply powering the device off then turning it back on fixed the issue. This may solve your issue too.
I see this is your first post, are you familiar with rooting and custom roms? Just curious so we know how to get you through this.
Thanks for helping. I did the ota update that sprint pushed out. The phone is completely stock nothing on it is modified at all. I already tried rebooting multiple times and tried a battery pull also. I am new to rooting and custom roms. Everything else on the phone is working fine but the recent app screen will come up as soon as I turn the screen on. It wont come up if I turn the screen on hit home to go to home screen turn screen off using power button and turn the screen back on quickly, it has to sit for 30sec to 1min for it to start doing it again.
Thanks!!

Anybody got any ideas?
Sorry for the late reply, I work a night shift.
Are you waking the screen up with the home button or the power button. The reason I am asking is because the only way I can make this same situation occur is with no lock screen set, I wake up the phone with the home screen button.
Try setting up a lock screen and see if it fixes the problem.
If it does not fix the problem then I recomend taking the phone back to Sprint to see if they will swap the device since you are not rooted.
If you have a custom recovery installed try rebooting into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache then go to advanced and fix permissions, if you only have stock recovery try wiping cache from it. To boot to recovery, power off phone, hold volume up and home then power, let go of the 3 keys when the note 2 splash screen pops up. If that doesn't alleviate the issue it may be a setting with the home key presses, for instance you can change what it does with longpress and double tap, may have gotten the svoice and recent apps mixed up. Try double tapping home and see if svoice comes up or recent apps, also longpress to see which comes up.

This is deff recent update caused i believe. I also have a non rooted sprint device that I just updated, and its doing the exact same thing. Annoying as hell. My device is less then a month old. To explain more on what happens, I have my screen timeout set for 2 mins, lock at 5 mins. Use phone, put it down, wait for screen to time out, pick it up and hit him key once and it brings up the task manager. Not a long press, just a fast press.
I tried to clear the cache with no luck..
I guess that makes two of us for this problem.
I have noticed sometimes when I go to use the phone there will be a blue box around one of the apps. Not sure if its the last app I used but it has been doing this since before the update.
I cant replicate the issue to save my life. When you guys updated something must have gotten confused in the process. May need to download a stock restore of ma7 and start fresh. That would be what I would do if nothing else fixes it. It will erase all you apps and settings and internal storage so back em up. Back up internal to PC
I like to break stuff!
Ok ill be more than happy to try that.. what exactly is ma7 and where can I dl it. Is there anything special I need to know or do to complete the process? I already cleared my my contacts.. google said they were uploaded but apparently not.
Thanks again for the help!!

MA7 is the latest OTA 4.1.2 which would be the update you took prior to this recent apps incident. Look in development for a thread by garwynn it'll have the links to the Odin one-click packages and since you already took OTA you won't need the modem. Just follow the directions in his thread. Before doing it if you have anything stored to your internal storage you want to save back it up to your PC via USB. You'll want to grab the full restore one click so it wipes everything and starts fresh.

Same issue, called Sprint
I spoke with sprint about this today, very frustrating. I learned:
Not all note users are having this problem
they did a reactivation, prl update, firmware check, profile (?) update.
That didn't do anything, so the recommended a hard reset, that's when I flipped out.
They said I may be able to sent me a new phone if the hard reset doesn't help, but would need to pay a $49 exchange fee... then i flipped out more.
possible reasons: I really don't know, here is what i have:
Go Launcher
SD card, inserted a couple weeks after activation
I use Home2 to modify my home button double tap action
Not rooted or anything.

I'm still having the same issue with recent apps popping up upon awake, non rooted sprint, happened after recent OTA update, and have no apps in common with above poster. I have not done a reset yet as it hasn't bothered to that extent yet, and once I get ready to root and really tear into things, ill work it out then I suppose.
I'm having the same issue after updating to MA7. Im rooted, cleared both caches and still going on. When I wake the phone with the home button it wakes up and shows the recent apps, when I close that it take me to my lock screen (wigetlocker)
Edit: Fixing permissions just fixed it for me and also clearing the caches again.
Double Edit: Started doing it again. -___-

I am having this problem to it happens when the screen goes off but does not lock in my experience. I would never pay for a new phone if it is a update that messed my phone up I would have snapped
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Solved
I have the Note 2 on Sprint. The update that I got a couple days ago has solved this problem.
So I've had my Tab 3 for a little over 6 months now and have had no issues what-so-ever 'til now. My problem is with the screen just suddenly becoming unresponsive after locking it after use. I swiped my finger across the screen to unlock and got right back into my tablet like normal, but then once I tried to do open up applications from the Home Screen nothing happened. I tabbed lightly and swiped repeatedly trying to get a response.... nothing.
My screen LCD screen is flawless and is original, it has never been tampered with. There are no cracks or scratches or anything it just suddenly stopped working. So I figure it's a software issue, no big deal, right? Wrong. I did a soft reset by holding down the power button, it reboots and comes back to the home screen. Nothing. I figured wth I have nothing important on here, let me do a hard reset. Boot into recovery mode wipe the cache and tablet performing a hard reset. Tablet then reboots to the default setup screen to choose language. Nothing. I can't choose anything. I don't know what's wrong. Lastly, the battery was semi-low around 20% or so before this all happened. So I let it fully charge again hoping that'd help, but nothing. I'm at a loss of what to do next.
NOTE: This is all original and is stock everything. I've never modded this tablet or rooted it. I don't understand how the digitizer would just give out for no reason, it hasn't been dropped or anything.
Any other troubleshooting I can do? I've thought about installing the USB drivers and putting it into download mode to flash a custom rom or even the original to see if it'll work, but I don't want to do that unless necessary. If it is the digitizer are these hard to replace and costly?

well replace a screen digitizer require a basic set of skills on mobile repairing. However I found this on ebay (US) http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...en.TRS1&_nkw=T217S+screen&ghostText=&_sacat=0
but you can try to flash into latest firmware by samsung and try again
