Hi everybody...
yesterday i was sitting at my desk with my Desire in standby...
suddenly i heard a vibration and i noticed that the phone was rebooting....
i thought that was "normal instability"...and i continued working...
some minutes later i received a phone call, i answered and i spoke normally....when it was time to end the call, like always, i touch the red button on screen to close the call and BUM !!!
my phone rebooted himself.....
from that moment every call ending , done by me or received, cause a reboot of my Desire....
i' ve already called HTC tech support for assistance, but, prior to send the phone to the repair center, i would like to know from you "experts" if this problem can be a "software related" problem or it is for sure an "hardware problem"...
obviously i've already performed an HARD reset of the phone (either by the provacy menu and by the HBOOT menu) and nothing has changed...
last thing....my phone has 7 days of life....SIGH
thank's in advance for your help

Mines done that a few times, as well as when ive disconected from a bluetooth headset. It happened on 1 device and i sent it back to orange and got a replacment, the 2nd device now does it with the generic rom on it, im hoping the custom rom ive put on it will fix it if not im screwed and so need a orange rom to revert back 2
im starting to think its something ive installed on the phone that it doesnt like
Today my friend got his HTC Desire, attempted update to 2.2 (I think that's what he tried)...
before the update started, the screen went black. He cancelled the update and hard rebooted the device. Still no luck. there's nothing appearing on the screen at all.
The other features of the device all work, the phone works, and the touch screen is registering input, the reboot key combination appears to work, but the screen isn't displaying anything, and the backlight isn't coming on at all.
Any ideas as to why this is happening, and what can be done to make the Desire desirable once more?
Have you tried rooting it?
is it a branded or debranded Desire?
Can you confirm what it was he was doing??
It's a UK o2 branded Desire, he was attempting to debrand at the time.
We have tried both warm and cold reboots
This sounds like a hardware problem. I am facing the same issue, but it's sporadic. For me it started before I rooted (so I don't think it's related), and the screen went blank with a single pixel width white line at the top. After a while the screen would gradually go green. I found that it fixed itself after either taking the battery out or waiting a while. I'm gonna return my handset after I unroot it (t-mobile uk, locked), but will have to wait till I get back from abroad. I'm hoping the t-mobile update won't be out when I get back cos I want to be able to root it.

he's had it replaced by o2... thankfully he hadn't rooted it before the problem occurred, and they straight up swapped it for him
After almost a year long battle against the repair center and my HD2, I recently received a brand new HTC Desire. The phone is working fine, except for the really annoying reboot which happened already 3 times while receiving calls. On the 3 occasions the phone got stuck once I slided the bar to accept the call. The screen freezes and then it reboots (just once and not on a loop which apparently is more likely to happen with the desire). The repair center advised to perform a hard reset and if the problem persists, they want me to send it back to install a new rom.
Anybody got a similar issue or a solution that will allow me to keep my phone?
Cheers
will send it back for repairs. Probably a mainboard issue like the more common reboot issue
Thanks anyway
Happened to me on a custom ROM. Changed the kernel and the problem was gone.
Thanks for the tip man, but the phone has this problem out of the box, with factory settings. So I am guessing that this rules out a kernel problem. Or I just hope cos if every machine they sell has this issue, boy they are gonna be busy on the helpdesk
The phone came back from HTC repair with a new board and guess what... I still have the same problem. frak me right?
Anybody have any theory before I completely go bonkers?
Hi,
Im rusing cyanogen 7.0 since a couple of weeks without any problem.
This night, my phone shutdown (no alarm this morning...).
After a restart, an hour or so later, it shutdown again. And since this morning, its shuting down every X(random) minutes .
Ive restored a backup with the original sense and everything, same thing.
Please... Anyone knows Whats happening? Is it dead?
Have you accidentally left it out in the sun or something?
For myself, I actually left mine out in the sun for a couple of hours and before I knew it, my HTC Desire would just start rebooting randomly as and when it likes. ==
Since you have reverted back to Sense and the problem still occurs, most likely its a hardware fault. Hopefully you are still covered by warranty or something.
Find out, if battery health is still "good":
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Then press battery information.

Hi all,
About a month ago, I flashed my X with the cyanogenmod rom but ever since then about 2-3 times a week I would go and check my mobile and the phone would have been switched off and it would take me 2 minutes of holding down the power button to get the phone to boot again, The battery is fully charged and was working perfectly fine when I received it from O2.
Not sure why it's doing this, it has made me think I would like to go back to old to stock ROM as I got from O2 but Silly me didn't make a backup !
Can anyone help me with this problem
Kind regards
James
