Phone shuts down with no warning... Help - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Im rusing cyanogen 7.0 since a couple of weeks without any problem.
This night, my phone shutdown (no alarm this morning...).
After a restart, an hour or so later, it shutdown again. And since this morning, its shuting down every X(random) minutes .
Ive restored a backup with the original sense and everything, same thing.
Please... Anyone knows Whats happening? Is it dead?

Have you accidentally left it out in the sun or something?
For myself, I actually left mine out in the sun for a couple of hours and before I knew it, my HTC Desire would just start rebooting randomly as and when it likes. ==
Since you have reverted back to Sense and the problem still occurs, most likely its a hardware fault. Hopefully you are still covered by warranty or something.

Find out, if battery health is still "good":
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Then press battery information.

[Q] Turns off after making picture

Hi,
Since a week or so, Im experiencing a weird problem with my Desire HD.
This is not always happening, but it happens very sometimes.
When I make a picture, the flash flashes, and the phone turns off... and it will not turn on by pushing the on/off button.
Only taking out the battery, and put it back in helps to get the phone starting up again.
After it is started up, the automatic blacklight adjusting is turned off, and the screen is on full brightness.
Does anyone else experience this problem either? and maybe having a solution?
Btw, it's not the SD, it also happens with a different SD.
Thanks in advance!
Greetz,
Joshoon.
Bump,
No one having an idea?
I only remember it happening the first day I bought it. Almost took it back for replacment, but then I solved it by removing the battery .
It never happened since, and the only thing I did after that was install the latest HTC update.
Check if you're updated.
I've experienced something close to this, only that my phone didn't shut down but just the camera app was closing anytime I tried to take a picture or record a video. Restarted the phone and everything works ok ever since.

My DHD was up-to-date when it happend.
It happend 2 times now.
I contacted HTC about it, there were not known with the problem, and the employee told me it could be a software problem, so they told me to do a factory reset.
Just did that, I hope the issue doesn't pop up again.
I'll keep the thread updated
Update!
Still had not the issue again, so HTC were probably right!
I still have that problem with shutting down phone after taking pictures with flash. I think it's battery related because it happens then battery is lower than 50%. All updates installed and I've done factory reset a couple of times. Anybody find a solution for this annoying problem?

I'm now switched to Galaxy Note since December, but it did not happen again with my Desire HD.
I also had a custom ROM on my Desire HD mostly after this all.
So you could try that too.
if your DHD turn off after take picture with flash, just replace battery will fix this, i'm tested with my DHD at 12/22/2013

[Q]Help, Phone does not turn on

My friend is running CM 7 on his Tmobile G2.
He was describing that yesterday was acting weird with market downloads.
Here is what he he emailed me on what happened.
the phone was acting normal throughout my day until the evening towards the night, i noticed it failed to finish downloading the update for google earth along with google maps. the phone was fine, and then i pulled it out of my pocket a few times and saw multiple times that it was randomly turned off. i would turn it back on and it would still give me the same issue. when i got home and plugged it in to charge, it would boot and then get to the main home screen telling me that google maps is downloading to update. however the update would be frozen, and a few seconds later the phone would freeze altogether, forcing me to turn it off by pulling out the battery. this happened about 4 times, and now has reached the point that it has become a brick and refuses to turn on or show the charging light
any suggestions on what might be wrong with the phone? Thanks in advance. Im running Cm7 on my phone and never experienced this issue.
same happend to me 3days ago, phone running then freezed... bootloop after batterypull... recovery worked for 2 times but had problems with flashing new rom/backing up -> errors with cache partition...
after 4hours of letting it stay off -> it wont turn on again und wont charge (no LED)
tried it with another dz battery+charger... no change... i wrote htc and they answered within 1hr that i have to send it in without battery...
i guess its a known problem (or why wouldnt they want to have me sending in charger+battery .. if its a power-on problem..)
there are semibrick threads here and in other forums.. but they all don't suffer from the power on problem... so i guess i did the right thing sending it in
edit: never had heat issues, never had random reboots, no overclock, no indication of an update from any app did any harm to my phone, running cm7 for 3 weeks without any problems, no hboot flash, no radio flash ... nothing that would indicate a risk of brick (according to guides & forum threads)... first htc that ever failed for me ;(
Thanks for the reply. I will forward it to my friend. I think he is going to try to exchange it at the store and if it all fails we are going to try HTC.
have any of you tried to boot into recovery? did you have eng-hboot on your devices? go to #g2root
its complete dead as in dead... no LED light, no turn on, no hboot mode (or what its called when you press vol+power key).... i dont have a g2 but a unbranded european dz.. hboot and radio was never touched by me
Similar thing happened to me. My phone kept frozing on me running cm7..was fine for a week though.
So I booted into recovery..wiped cache, factory reset flashed another rom got bunch of erros recovery thing rebooted stuck i n htc logo for like 20min yanked out battery rebooted and it never rebooted back. No hboot,no nothing.
My light indicator still worked though but no hboot or anything.. got a new one now have to send the old one back to tmobile but I'm scared that they're gonna charge me for removing void stickers.
Even though I checked twice that removing void sticker won't avoid warranty according to tmobile customer chat sevice..
So I'm thinking about swiping out the sticker that contains serial number and such on back of our phone with the old one and tell them the new one came without a void sticker lolol
Sorry I got way off topic rofl..

We went to the store today and exchanged it for another g2. The guy didnt ask any questions and exchanged it happily for a new one.
This very same thing happened to me today. Updated to CM 7.0.3 from 7.0.1 and the phone was freezing when installing items from the market. Pulled the battery and the phone was stuck on the boot animation. Pulled the battery again, and now it will not start at all. No charging light, no nothing. Had more than 50% charge, and now it seems entirely unresponsive. I can't use the power w/ volume button technique either, because the phone does not respond.
Seems like somehow I have bricked the phone, or the phone just coincidentally died just after updating to CM 7.0.3? (seems unlikely)
just a short update on my case:
i got the mobile back from HTC repairs.
they exchanged my "mainboard" (changed IMEI) under warranty.
i don't know what emmc chip i had before cause it died so fast, but my usb deviceIDs changed completely and are now simmilar to the ones in the cm wiki.
my current emmc is now:
$ cat /sys/devices/platform/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:0001/name

[Q] Desire Z randomly shutdown issue

I'm having this problem from stock ROM (unrooted) to latest rooted ROMs (Virtuous Sense, InsertCoin...). I've already have it's firmware reinstalled by HTC first and then board replacement the second time I have the problem.
The phone just shutdowns itself and I cannot turn it on again unless I pull out/in the battery or plug in the charger. There is one time that I can't even turn it on by doing anything but after numerous battery pulls I can boot into Recovery and restart in there.
Is this a hardware faulty? If so the do I have to revert it back to unrooted in order to have it repaired by HTC?
I'm living in Vietnam and there are authorized HTC support center here but I don't know whether the policy to deal with rooted phone is different? And also will I have a new replacement because it has been repaired many times
I have a similar problem with my g2. No matter what rom I flash the phone just randomly shuts down and wont start unless I pull the battery. Sometimes it take a day or 2 for it to happen, sometimes it happens with couple of hours it seems. Any thoughts?

Exactly the issue I'm having... this is a known common problem with Desire Z / G2, isn't it?
Anyone with the experiences dealing with HTC support can help me and others having this same issue?
I'm still looking for some experienced insights about this matter...
Any other have had this issue and did you return your phone to HTC for repairing and how is the result?
I am also having a similar problem, sometimes my phone just powers off. There is no warning or shutdown animation just one second its working fine next its a black screen and I have to press the power button to boot the phone back up. Now I don't have to pull my battery like the rest of you so it may be a different issue. It happens on multiple roms.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus keeps turning OFF

I have a problem with my Galaxy Nexus turning OFF at night.
I goto bed at night and open the clock app and click the screen to dim it. When I wake up in the morning the phone is OFF. I have to pull the battery in order to boot. The battery is fully charged.
I returned the phone after this happened twice and received a brand new one. I have the same problem with this new device. I have changed the power socket and the charger yet still the problem persists.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?
I have Skype installed and running which maybe the cause. I will keep it OFF for the next few nights to see if this has a positive effect.
Try it without any off your apps installed. If the problem goes away you know it's an app causing the problem. Then start adding them back in batches until the problem re-occurs. Eventually you'll narrow the issue down to one app.

This is happening to me too.
At random times, the phone will refuse to wake from sleep.
Nothing but a battery pull will fix it.
I don't have skype installed.
Have a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360880&highlight=sleep+of+death
Mine started today. Really hope this does not keep happening or I need to return this right away. Missed a few phone calls today and didnt realize until I looked down any my phone was just simply black. Will not wake up or do anything at all. You have to pull the battery. Right before this happened my data was dropping non stop about every 5 minutes for an hour.
I'm trying to stay calm because I love this phone, but between the data drops and the phone turning off im loosing patience quick.
This is happening to me as well. With TWO different phones. The first one I returned to Verizon and now its happening on the second one.
Phone will power off while doing random tasks. The two I've noticed is browsing on the stock browser and texting on the stock texting app.
I'm having the same problem. It's happened twice in the 3 days I've had the phone. It hasn't happened while I'm using it, both times it was when the screen was already off -- it just wouldn't waku up. Nothing short of pulling the battery, letting it sit, then powering on would work.
Couldn't have come at a worse time either, my daughter is in the hospital and I get updates from the surgeons via phone. So now I have to check every 5 minutes and make sure the phone is still on.
Phone is bone stock, out-of-the-box.

it does it when i have skype running too. also i have other other audio apps open. (power amp, tunein, pandora) It's happened twice to me and each time it has been during a skype call while the other apps were running. (in widget form)
shock sensitive in the area right below the camera?
My device just "randomly" switches off (sometimes several times a day). After a long search for a reproducible cause, it seems safe to say that at least some devices seem to be extremely shock sensitive in the area right below the camera (on the back of the device). Even minuscule shocks to this area switch these devices off. Youtube-user 'jardinepatten' demonstrates this problem nicely in a video called "Galaxy Nexus Turning Off".

[Q] Phone turned off/crashed

My phone had about 60% battery last time I checked but I just went to unlock it and the phone didn't respond. I tried to turn it on by holding the power button wasn't getting any response from the phone
I've plugged it into the charger and didn't get any charging light so again I held in the power button and nothing! I kept trying and eventually the buttons lit up and it started to boot...
I've had the phone for 2/3 days now and this is the first problem I've had but it's still a little worrying!
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this? I'm on the 1.26 software.
I had this on one occasion when adding the messages widget to the home screen. When I powered the phone back on I got a request to send HTC a bug report.

Interesting. I didn't get the bug report.
I'm hoping it was just a software bug but I haven't seen any other complaints on the forum yet.
I have just noticed a problem with my phone too, turned it off for the first time last night, on start up this morning it started ok but did not load completely and froze for about 30 seconds on the home screen with no app icons showing. It then rebooted and started up ok with the bug report. I then turned off the fast boot and tried again, it booted correctly first time. Would there be any particular apps which would cause this to happen on fast boot?
Hey mate, currently having the same problem as you. Have no clue what to do. My battery was at about 50% and it just crashed when i was playing riptide. Now it wont turn on or anything. Even when the phone charger is plugged it, it wont budge. Have you found a fix?
