After almost a year long battle against the repair center and my HD2, I recently received a brand new HTC Desire. The phone is working fine, except for the really annoying reboot which happened already 3 times while receiving calls. On the 3 occasions the phone got stuck once I slided the bar to accept the call. The screen freezes and then it reboots (just once and not on a loop which apparently is more likely to happen with the desire). The repair center advised to perform a hard reset and if the problem persists, they want me to send it back to install a new rom.
Anybody got a similar issue or a solution that will allow me to keep my phone?
Cheers
will send it back for repairs. Probably a mainboard issue like the more common reboot issue
Thanks anyway
Happened to me on a custom ROM. Changed the kernel and the problem was gone.
Thanks for the tip man, but the phone has this problem out of the box, with factory settings. So I am guessing that this rules out a kernel problem. Or I just hope cos if every machine they sell has this issue, boy they are gonna be busy on the helpdesk
The phone came back from HTC repair with a new board and guess what... I still have the same problem. frak me right?
Anybody have any theory before I completely go bonkers?

Hi all
My t-mobile MDA III has developed a problem in the last 2 weeks in that it keeps locking up. When you look at the phone its looks fine, the green light is flashing away but when you try and switch it on, nothing happens and I have to do reset before it comes back.
I've tried changing the rom, I was using Black & Blue v5 for a few months and it was fine but that hasn't helped.
One thing I have noticed is regardless of which ROM I use, when the phone starts up it always says "Black & Blue v5"
A hard reset hasn't helped either
Any ideas?
Similar problems in here, without the "Black and Blue V5" situation.
I've allready exchange the battery, but with no success...
I've given up to be honest, I was on a call the other day and it switched itself off! I'm back using my old Nokia :-(
I'm due an upgrade with T-mobile but they can't make up their minds about when they are going to release the Diamond2, I guess I just have to wait.
Hi,
I'm dealing with this bug since the beginning..how often does it happen to you?Does it happen with a clean ROM,what apps do you install? In my case it's not so frequent but very annoying because,as you said, from outside the device looks like perfectly working (green light blinking)..but you can't even receive a call! As a result you have a nice brick in your pocket or desk without knowing it. Anyway I still think this could be a sofware problem...I have apparently the same bug when i do a full backup with Spb Backup:when finished and restarts automatically after 15 sec it goes into this "black screen" deeeep sleeep. Eveything goes ok if I manually choose to restart my device. My ROM is equipped with S2U2 running just after you switch on the screen, maybe it could crash the whole phone occasionally, cannot prove it...going to disable it and see. These are only impressions (and no solutions) but I can say that this problem occurs to me more frequently when i play hard with my Artemis (I mean flashes..install-uninstall things..). When the pocketpc is in normal use i must admit it's quite stable. All this to tell that hopefully the device is not broken...I got one motherboard already replaced and I can tell you that the symptomes where different (fading screen...watch out folks).
Ah,by the way: That "Black&Blue v.5" screen you have is the splashscreen from an old rom you flashed that hasn't been replaced by anything because maybe new roms you put afterwards didn't include any..You can take a look here to change your splash screen:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317726

I'm afraid this is a hardware failure, unfortunately I don't have the repair papers with me at the moment (i'm abroad).Try to take a look in internet,I'll do the same and tell you if I find something, keep tracking this thread! Ciao
Edit: there is a Customer Care Area at htc.com where you can write an email or call them. Here's a list of phone numbers from all over Europe: http://www.htc.com/it/CA_Hotline.aspx found with Google.
Edit again:If you consider to replace it yourself, you should take a look in eBay..it may be cheaper.
Will do that.
Tried other options, but ebay is suspicious..you can find something cheap..but what if it is the same like mine??
btw..today I got reply from O2 uk...warranty is expired for 1 month!!!!

Hi all,
I tried doing a search on this before posting this thread. No luck. I just got my TP2 on sunday. I let it charge and flashed HardSPL and a few roms. I noticed my phone would turn completely off when I open and close the screen. At first, I thought it was the display turning off to save power, but the phone is actually turning completely off and I need to hit the power button and boot it back up again. Is this a setting I need to change? Or could there be something wrong with my phone? I also tried going back to the stock rom to eliminate that as a cause and the same thing happens.
Any help is appreciated.
I have posted an almost similar question here with no reply.

Not sure what the problem is. In my case the solution is not to close the keyboard when OneNote Mobile is still open!
My colleague is having the same prob, from what he is experiencing, i would suggest a hardware fault, probably just a loose ribbon cable... but best send it back to HTC to avoid voiding your warranty

Hi,
I had this issue to and send the phone in for repair. The said that it was a problem with the mainboard - replaced it and send it back. It now works perfect.
REMEMBER!!! If you want to send the TP2 in for repair you must reflash the SPL back to the original one, I think it is 0.79.0000 (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131 for how to restore to the original HardSPL)
discoverd the same issue, happened to me about a week ago for a few times, when i slide in/out the keyboard. It just habbend about 4 times, but didn't happend again since this time ... i will have a eye on it...
Same here. The screen turns off completely but the phone actually works and I can receive or place calls. Called the HTC support and they advised to try if a hard reset will fix it before sending the phone in. The tricky part here is that this issue can not be recreated easy in their service as it happens randomly with me (sometimes it works fine for days). I am still trying to find out what causes this issue on first place. I think it started right after I installed IGO 8 and changed some power settings in the ini file but it kept doing this after I removed it. I also tried to disable the light sensor (the one that turns the screen off when you place the handset to your ear during a call) because it looks exactly like this - screen turns off but the phone works. So, I will give it another week and I will try the hard reset.
What roms do you guys have this issue with? I am using the stock T-Mobile US with HardSPL.

Sorry, forgot to update this thread. I ended up getting a replacement from TMO. I am much happier now that my phone doesn't turn off whenever I close the screen. Get a replacement while you can and ask them nicely if they can overnight it to you. I did.
Actually, this was a software problem in my case - I did the hard reset 2 weeks ago and since then I have not experienced the issue. I am going to start installing my previous programs one by one to find out what caused the problem.
Same
I have the same problem,
The hard reset solve the problem?
please heeeeelp
I finally got my desire back from repair. Since then all my calls are on speaker at the backside of the phone and i need to push the button to get it to the "normal phone speaker"
this happens if I call someone and if someone calls me
How do i get it back to "normal"?
Try pulling the battery for a few seconds.
If this doesn't work do a hard reset.
You can also phone htc and tell them that you have this problem since the repair and ask them what should you do.
There are two other threads like yours, but they're without some definite fix.

I had to factory-reset it again now it works
But weird anywasys. I reinstalled all apps and i did not get that isse again
I have a six months old desire (still under guaranty), not rooted, with froyo.
Lattely it it doing some weird things:
- randomly (once a day) the phone freezes, so i have to push home button after that happens and the phone goes to stand by, i cant wake it- the buttons lights up but the screen stays dark (i have to take out the battery to restsrt the phone)
-sometimes my phone isnt ringing when someone is calling
Can someone please help me, what should i do (should i root and try another ROM or sent it into repair?).
tank you
First try a normal factory reset. If the problem is gone you can root or keep using it unrooted. If the problem is still there just send it to repair.
I have already tried a factory reset and it is the same. Does that mean it is a hardware problem?
Would say so, if it's unrooted there is no other real reason for these problems. You can try to see if a custom rom fixes it but I wouldn't try to fix a phone still under warranty by breaking the warranty. Just send it back to HTC unless you can't miss your phone for a month.
Could it be possible that my sd card is causing the problems?
yesterday i have inserted another sd card and the phone seems working fine now.
I tried running the card i previous had in the phone on my computer ani it did not work ( didnt even find it).
So im wondering if the card was fault for the desire behaving weird? I gues i will have to wait for a couple of days and see what happens.
What do you guys think?
Sounds exactly the same as mine. I had to remove battery once a day due to freezing, missed so many calls.
Tried rom upgrades, factory resets, new SD card, still the same.
Finally sent it to HTC UK service who replaced the mainboard, all good now.
Phone was returned in less than a week, really happy with their service.
Same here sent it to repair got a new main board and all is good. HTC repair is better than most
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have an unlocked DHD that's about 10 months old, since the beginning of the month, it's intermittently been saying "no service". Normally a switch in and out of Airplane Mode sorts the problem out.
I know it's not a sim card issue as I'm now on my third sim card, and the problem still persists. Occasionally my phone fails to recognize the sim card altogether, and I get a "please insert sim" message when I boot up the phone. It doesn't matter what network the phone is on, the problem is still there.
Any ideas?
Thanks
is it stock firmware or have you rooted and flashed any ROMs on it? If not, simplest thing to do is get call HTC UK, it's still under warranty so they will pick it up and fix it. A mate of mine had intermittent issue with power button on his Desire and got is sorted with HTC. They picked up and returned phone in week, completely fixed.
It originally happened to me on stock firmware, which prompted me to root and flash ARHD 6.1.0. I have also flashed a new radio, but the problem is still there, meaning that it has to be hardware related.
If I have to I can flash back to stock so that HTC can repair the device. Although I have heard horror stories of devices being returned with just a reflash from HTC, so I'm a little reluctant to send it off to them.
Thanks for your help. I guess I'll have to send it off to HTC if I can't find a fix for it :/
FIXED!
Ok, I sent my phone off to HTC on wednesday last week, and it's just arrived back. Pretty quick service really! The problem seems to be fixed, for the time being, as it was an intermittent fault.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here would be able to tell me what the part they replaced was?
On the enclosed piece of paper it says:
Parts replaced:
GPS Cover (Brown)
Sponge, sponge_under MB cover, SRS 70p, ACE
I'm guessing that MB stands for motherboard, any other ideas as to what this "sponge" might be?
Thanks in advance
Get appkiller or something free memory recover or so run it and wait 1second turn of screen wait 1 second turn it on aund u can put ur pin code and u have service!
