How would I go about that mate?
Thanks!
Any of the many guides. There's a few one click options too. I consider it one if the easier things you can do.

Hi,
I have an issue, i am trying to radio s - off my device so i can flash a different radio as i have heard it can improve signal and possibly battery.
I have eng s - off which shows in the bootloader screen, but the CID says HTC_001 which i believe means that I do not have Radio S-off, correct me if i am wrong on this please
I used the tool which is metioned in one of the threads in here where all you do is highlight an option on the pc (Radio S-Off. Super CID and SimUnlock (usual) ) and click on Do it! , so i did and it gets to a certain point and then hangs on the pc and my phones screen goes off, i have to pull the battery to get it to come back on again, i do not get a request for super user and nothing else seems to happen besides the screen going off.
If anyone knows how this procedure is supposed to happen then please let me know, I have read through the thread which i got this tool from but there doesn't seem to be any detail of the prog hanging, I don't want to brick my device either so please only reply if you have some experience with this.
Thanks in advance.
Presently i am using Coredroid Themed
Leedroids 2.2.4 kernel
Clockwork 3.0

Ah yea, i have to downgrade again, won't work on 1.72 or above, seeing as i'm on coredroid it looks like the only way to do it is to downgrade, why couldn't you have just said that though.
Because I want people to learn things themselves. You do not need to downgrade, you can read the FAQ and find out that you can flash Raidroid. The tool will work on raidroid.

Granted, i know what you mean, but i was at work and was flapping a bit so sorry bout that, knowledge is free theres no need to hold back on something when the answer is quite simple, people in need of things tend to over complicate things where as someone in the know has the ability to tell the person straight what to do.
Thanks for helping, i appreciate it.

Is that because it's lower than 1.72 right?
Yep that is right
Hi all,
Really sorry if this has been asked but I'd really like everyone's opinion on rooting this device.
Like, why? Is it easy to get wrong? Can it be reversed? Is it easy to back up? Etc.
Thanks so much guys, I'm just so worried about doing it and ending up with a bricked phone. I love my Desire. I'm sure you all understand
Firstly, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up the Software version. If there's an RUU (ROM Upgrade Utility) available for your current version then yes it's reversable
You can't backup your phone until you've rooted, hence the importance of an RUU to get back to stock should you ever need to.
As for should you root, it's up to you. Why do you want to root?

I heard it allows for a faster unit, more memory, better Apps2SD function, more fun with the unit, more apps etc?

Definitly time consuming ! This would be a valid reason is you ask my wife ...
Yes root it.
Opens the door to expand on the functionality of your Desire.
Put it this way, my desire arrived in the post in the morning, by afternoon it was rooted..
Think that says it all really. Good luck.
Wow. There are a lot of different views. Might need to let the poll decide haha.
I'm just scared, don't wanna brick it!

Just read before you do it, don't begin before you understand what you do, and everything will be ok !
If you answer my first question we can let you know if there's an RUU so you can get back to stock if needed. Will take some risk out of it

Download this to get back to stock if needed:

Nothing to stop you now, really
I rooted my Desire the same day it arrived.
Nothing to worry about, its really HARD to *@^$ up something, you shouldn't S-OFF yet tho that is bit more risky but really go for Root and Custom ROM's.
ps.
I have same RUU as you.

What does S-off do?
Have a read here: http://alpharev.nl/
But really stick to rooting yet before you learn more.

Thanks! Definitely be checking all this awesome stuff out after exams
Almost wish someone could do it for me, but I know I'd be upset if I didn't do it myself
S-off allows you to change the partition layout of the phones memory and delete system apps with titanium. S-off is for advanced users who want to do special things.
To answer your question:
Rooting is not really dangerous because you can almost always go back to stock rom.
Ask yourself what you want to do with your phone. If you just want to download apps and use them then you don't need root. But if you want to try out different ROMs (Sense, Sense HD, pure, MIUI) then go ahead and root.
There is a nice video tutorial sticky in the dev forum, that shows how to root and what kinds of roms there are.

I read and researched for a good long time before doing anything, I reccommend you do that! I definitely recommend root though, I did root and s-off and now I have:
Better battery life
no unwanted apps clogging my system
much more free ram and internal storage
a choice of any rom (I choose oxygen)
ability to r/w to any part of my device while my phone is booted.
You will read about peoploe bricking their phones and such, but it seems to me the vast majority of cases have no problems at all if you follow instructions carefully.
Can anyone guide a complete novice to installing CLockwork Recovery on HTC Desire Z, including what to download, and what to do with it?
Thanks in advance

I'm currently rooted via the HTC Dev. method which obviously means I'm S-ON. I keep having to flash the boot image of the ROM every time I restart/reboot the phone which is really annoying. So I want to go the whole 9 yards and obtain S-OFF status. I read the comprehensive thread on the matter and I'm a little confused and quite apprehensive about attempting it. Is there a newer or more updated method out there? Here's some info on my phone:
HTC Dev unlocked with S-ON
HBOOT-0.98.0000
ROM: MIUI.us_vivow_1.12.30
Thanks in advance guys,
Eric

I assume you mean this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796
I didn't use that one, but what I've read from others is that it is easier than it sounds if you just take your time and follow the directions exactly.
You'll have to relock your bootloader first I believe.
