Hi,
I have an issue, i am trying to radio s - off my device so i can flash a different radio as i have heard it can improve signal and possibly battery.
I have eng s - off which shows in the bootloader screen, but the CID says HTC_001 which i believe means that I do not have Radio S-off, correct me if i am wrong on this please
I used the tool which is metioned in one of the threads in here where all you do is highlight an option on the pc (Radio S-Off. Super CID and SimUnlock (usual) ) and click on Do it! , so i did and it gets to a certain point and then hangs on the pc and my phones screen goes off, i have to pull the battery to get it to come back on again, i do not get a request for super user and nothing else seems to happen besides the screen going off.
If anyone knows how this procedure is supposed to happen then please let me know, I have read through the thread which i got this tool from but there doesn't seem to be any detail of the prog hanging, I don't want to brick my device either so please only reply if you have some experience with this.
Thanks in advance.
Presently i am using Coredroid Themed
Leedroids 2.2.4 kernel
Clockwork 3.0

Ah yea, i have to downgrade again, won't work on 1.72 or above, seeing as i'm on coredroid it looks like the only way to do it is to downgrade, why couldn't you have just said that though.
Because I want people to learn things themselves. You do not need to downgrade, you can read the FAQ and find out that you can flash Raidroid. The tool will work on raidroid.

Granted, i know what you mean, but i was at work and was flapping a bit so sorry bout that, knowledge is free theres no need to hold back on something when the answer is quite simple, people in need of things tend to over complicate things where as someone in the know has the ability to tell the person straight what to do.
Thanks for helping, i appreciate it.

Is that because it's lower than 1.72 right?
Yep that is right

When I tried to downgrade before it went through all the processes and on the last one it failed due to it being locked to orange so if this works big thank you

ahh so i've just had a look at this, and its exactly the same post i read and tried... so im sorry but it doesnt work!
plus i can't make a goldcard just dont understand the step by step, anyone else out there who can help?
also made a slight mistake with my software version... its as follows
Android Vers... 2.2.1
Build Number 1.84.61.2 CL333804 Release Keys
Software 1.84.61.2
What have you tried so far, and where did it fail.
failed on the last test, because its locked to orange and they have their own os or sumit along those lines, but it was the last last thing that went tits up on the downgrade!

after trying the downgrade again, ive down everything it asks, im now on the bootloader screen and its come up CID incorrect Update Fail! press power to reboot
thats the part im stuck on, so either i need to unlock my phone... or try and find the 1.32 software that orange released part from that i have no idea what to do
Did you create a goldcard? If you successfully made a goldcard it wouldn't fail on the CID.
no i can't mate, i have no idea how to create one... ive tried to follow step by step guides and whatnot but i just can't get my head around it, its probably so easy i could do it blind but yeh im not that techi to work it out... would it help if i pay someone to unlock my phone? i seriously have no clue... i can jailbreak an iPhone with no issues whatsoever but thats a iPhone lol
Without a goldcard you can't downgrade. Unlocking will just remove the SIM lock, it won't root or otherwise modify you handset.
If your quick & install TeamViewer I can attempt to make a goldcard for you from your computer.
will do mate that would be awesome, ok where would i download teamveiwer?
scrap that ive downloaded it
Once you've installed it PM me the ID and 4 digit password.
ivve got that up and running
PM me the correct password, it should be 4 numbers
thanks everyone, and especially thanks to AndyHarney for creating my "goldcard" after many weeks of frustraition ive finally rooted that mofo lol, all tho now after all that ive forgotten what i was actually doing in the 1st place lol... i'm sure i wanted to put on Gingerbread or a custom rom
if anyone fancys giving me a hand with that i'd be seriously greatful lol
I personally use MrGaraks MIUI 1.41. Its iPhone-esque in appearance but it is essentially a very heavily skinned CyanogenMod 7. It gets better every week too as MIUI updates weekly on a Friday.
Your spoilt for choice really when it comes to ROMs.
So are you now rooted, with clockwork mod recovery?
Hi all,
Really sorry if this has been asked but I'd really like everyone's opinion on rooting this device.
Like, why? Is it easy to get wrong? Can it be reversed? Is it easy to back up? Etc.
Thanks so much guys, I'm just so worried about doing it and ending up with a bricked phone. I love my Desire. I'm sure you all understand
Firstly, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up the Software version. If there's an RUU (ROM Upgrade Utility) available for your current version then yes it's reversable
You can't backup your phone until you've rooted, hence the importance of an RUU to get back to stock should you ever need to.
As for should you root, it's up to you. Why do you want to root?

S-off allows you to change the partition layout of the phones memory and delete system apps with titanium. S-off is for advanced users who want to do special things.
To answer your question:
Rooting is not really dangerous because you can almost always go back to stock rom.
Ask yourself what you want to do with your phone. If you just want to download apps and use them then you don't need root. But if you want to try out different ROMs (Sense, Sense HD, pure, MIUI) then go ahead and root.
There is a nice video tutorial sticky in the dev forum, that shows how to root and what kinds of roms there are.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Sent from my HTC Desire
I read and researched for a good long time before doing anything, I reccommend you do that! I definitely recommend root though, I did root and s-off and now I have:
Better battery life
no unwanted apps clogging my system
much more free ram and internal storage
a choice of any rom (I choose oxygen)
ability to r/w to any part of my device while my phone is booted.
You will read about peoploe bricking their phones and such, but it seems to me the vast majority of cases have no problems at all if you follow instructions carefully.
Ok guys might need a bit of help..
Not too familiar with this handset really but flashed my phones a million times without problems...till I set about the missus's phone yesterday.
Its a 3 UK branded desire..was HBoot 0.83
Went through the S-Off/root/Recovery/Hboot upgrade procedures...and all looked good.
Till I came to actually flashing ROMs.. and tried a couple. Just bootlooped on the AlphaRev screen for all.
So decided to drop back to stock through HBoot... the stock ROM flashes with apparently no errors reported, but again fails to boot. And AlphaRev HBoot doesn't get overwritten..although Recovery's gone.
Anyone know how to proceed?
First of all by reading the tutorials carefully before proceed, to avoid any trouble
Get the latest RUU for your Desire (3UK) and save it somewhere.
Before you flash it, download the HBOOT Downgrader from Alpharev.nl.
Flash the Downgrader first, then the RUU.
And what do you mean the recovery is gone? Are you still S-OFF? You can flash a recovery with the Android Flasher tool in the Development secton.
And What ROMs did you try that all failed you?
You probably forget one ot two steps when flashing.
Ain't no noob buddy so need to cut and paste the standard response guys!
Did all them things so that's why I'm asking..and yes despite being over flashed with the RUU s-off is still there. That's what I meant by the alphrev hboot not being overwritten.
However..the downgradues worth a try....

No rudeness intended..but RTFM is no help either under the circumstances.
I've been doing this for years since my tytn.
I really appreciate the help I really do..the downgrade suggestion ain't in the guide...and seems a good idea. Will try soon as I'm home.
Ha. It ain't going well... worse in fact.
Downgraded HBoot and flashed RUU...screen won't turn on. But RUU can still just talk to it. Flashing again. But still the same.
Vol down makes it vibrate now...but not much else!!
Edit: Hum...my first brick I think! Think the wife might be gettin an upgrade.
Edit again: Screen blank but the RUU program still sees the phone. Fails to revive it mind you. Only outward sign of life is a pulse vibrate on the power button being depressed after a battery pull. Anyone seen this?

Elaborate my friend? The 0.83 bootloader might indicate it has a sLCD... but only might I understand. Is there a history of issues with SLCD screens?
I gotta go to work..in Holland..but I'll still be checking in here for any information. It may very well be bricked but I'm still interested from a technical aspect.

Which RUU did you flash? If your phone has a SLCD screen, it might be a possibility that you've flashed an AMOLED RUU to your SLCD. Thus you will get a SLCD brick which makes you unable to view anything on the screen but the phone is working normally. It's reversible by following a SLCD unbrick guide.

You can still S-OFF your phone.
After a while, the script might (if needed) try to download a PD98IMG file. When it gives an error simply google for the filename (might be PD98IMG-GB2 for example) and place it in the PD98IMG directory AAHK created. Everything should go well. I S-OFF'd my Desire yesterday.

Thanks for the information!
I had also read about 'Easy Ace Root Tool' in dev forum. But I have a question regarding that.
- It says that only Custom ROMs can be installed, not Ported ROMs. What is meant by 'ported ROMs'? Will I not be able to install, say Sabsa prime or Venom's ROM(which are ported from One S and Desire X), if I unlock bootloader using Easy Ace root tool?
Also, does it support flashing 4ext recovery?
could you please tell me at least which version of aahk you used? already found in the web PD98IMG-GB2 and i am willing to do the proccess... already red many forums about rooting my desire hd. but since you did that proccess already i think you can give some reliable tips even if this topic is unsupported here. i know that discussing about aahk is unwelcome in the xda forum and i am sorry for this but i think you would agree that its the way with the most chances of success. or anyway could you suggest me any another way to follow?

Unlocking the bootloader will allow you to flash any recovery that is for the device (DHD / Inspire 4G), Custom roms built from source (CM) and modified sense roms work great. Ported roms I am not sure, but you can try it out. In the worst case scenario, you might get stuck in the splash screen and you will have to flash a different one.

You don't need S-OFF to root. You can just run this and you will be just fine. You don't have to be a programmer to root your phone, just do a little reading and searching will suffice.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169515
Howdy! Lemme preface all of this by saying that I'm less than a noob here....really inexperienced. Here's the background......
I rooted my DInc and I can't even remember which unrevoked tool I used. I was just reading along and punching commands and when the process was done I was rooted. I installed CWM successfully and flashed to CM7.2 which I've been running for quite some time. Lately I got an itch to try a JB ROM like infected, so when I looked into it, it clearly says I need S-off to accomplish that flash so I checked and realized I was S-on still.
At this point, I added the unrevoked-forever.zip to my sdcard root and tried to flash that ZIP by way CWM and i get these error messages:
E: unsupported radio version
E: update failed. Check/sdcard/soff.log
E: error in /sdcard/unrevoked-forever.zip (Status 42)
I am running Android version 2.3.7 and radio baseband version 2.15.10.12.20
Is this one of those things that I shouldn't be trying from CM7.2 and I should've dealt with before my initial flash to CM7.2?? Basically I'm totally freakin lost and in WAAAAY over my element, so any guidance would be duly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry....i guess it pays to be extra thorough in the description of the problem. The link you left me is the one that I followed. I researched achieving S-Off on the DInc first and found this same page in my research. I followed the process and all went smooth right up until i started to flash the unrevoked-forever.zip from my sdcard via CWM. The aforementioned error messages came up on my phone and it said the process failed.
I thought it might be because the radio baseband versions that are list as "supported" do not match mine

Sounds good to me. With the way HTC handles S-OFF, you don't really need it. I'd go the legit way and unlock your bootloader with HTCdev.
http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
Edit: and for the record, you're lucky you didn't brick your device. Reading the supported requirements and ignoring them is a good way to do it.

Yes thx....I'm gathering that! So this is where terminology gets so dang confusing for me. I didn't think unlocking my bootloader meant the same thing as achieving S-Off?? I already thought my bootloader was unlcoked, as I was able to flash CM7.2, which I didnt think I would be able to do if I had a locked bootloader. So wicked confused!!! And try as I miught to educate myself in these forums, I haven't located a sticky or guide that really thoroughly explains all the vernacular regarding android dev/modding/rooting/flashing/etc
So this other method will work with any radio baseband version then?? Or is it important to check compatibility there too??

Thank u for the materials too!
So after looking at those two links, it sure seems like not only is S-Off a potentially dangerous thing to do, it might also not even be necessary on the long-run. I say that carefully tho, as u just got thru telling me that flashing a new ROM against spec is a very dangerous thing to do and could potentially brick mu phone.
The ROM I'm looking to flash is Infection JB 4.2.2. The instructions say that if you're coming from. A non-AOSP ROM and are S-On that you've gotta extract boot.img and fastboot it after the ROM flash......whatever the heck that means???

Correct. Staying S-ON minimizes the danger. It locks your radio, and HBOOT, which are the main dangers.

Not really ROM flashing, but radio and HBOOT flashing, which is what unrevoked-forever tweaks.
I'd try to flash it one more time. When you do, what, if anything, are you wiping? You should be doing a factory reset, system, and boot wipe/format, then flash the ROM.
If that doesn't work (it might not, it's been awhile since I've worked with S-ON devices), then we'll move on to S-OFF (if you want).
Oh no.....I didn't even attempt to flash the Infection JB ROM specifically because I was not able to achieve S-Off. Whether it was intended or not, yea.....u sufficiently scared me about bricking the phone if I'm not to spec per the developer.
Are u saying I should wipe and then try to flash this ROM despite still being S-On?
Up to you. Personally, if it were me, I would try flashing the ROM with S-ON. The inc is a very friendly device, as long as you don't try to break the HBOOT and/or radios. It is next to impossible to break those with S-ON.
If you want to go S-OFF instead, grab the latest supported radio from http://dinc.does-it.net/ and then do the unrevoked-forever.

Hello. Im no expert but i think Cyanogenmod is aosp so you should be good.
I was where you were 2 yrs ago when I rooted my 1st phone: a friends froyo Dinc (ahhh...froyo). A few months ago I aquired my own and went to research how to root GB and everything has changed and is now vastly more complicated. Also I think every phone has a locked bootloader but not encrypted and I think Soff is extra security since I've only encountered it on htc phones. Anyway I've managed to get my inc to Soff but its still locked, idk how lol
