[Q] G2 can not connect to any network - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

after succesfully unlock the G2 with t-mobile unlock code, the phone can not connect to any network, not even with the t-mobile sim card. I did root the phone, and have PVT-ENG S-OFF, also i tried to ungrade radio, didn't help. so i downgrade it back to 26.03.02.26_m, but the phone still give message of error while searching for networks. im not sure if i have radio-s off. for some reasons, the phone will not connect to computer with usb. it always says can not find driver, so i had to use the terminal emulater method to set S-OFF. can anyone help me?

Boot into the bootloader and it will tell you there if you have s-off or not
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

i have S-OFF, but im not sure if that is same as radio S-OFF

Do you have the backups that are created when you run gfree?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

no, i dont have back up files, and i did not use ADB to S-OFF since i can not connect my phone to computer, tried many times and it just wont connect with usb

This has been discussed in other threads here as well. There is some sort of issue with the unlock code and the G2. Has something to do with the 'extra' security measures that T-Mobile took to try and lock down this device.
What you need to do is use the GFREE method to unlock the phone. Once you do this, your issue should be fixed. Not sure where I read this, but there is definitely a thread here that discusses this issue in further depth. Good luck.

there is a guide on using gfree_02 to make phone radio S-OFF to fix it, since i can't connect to computer, i had to do it with out ADB, here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928160 but i still not be able to connect to network, so im wondering is PVT ENG S-OFF different than radio S-OFF? is that anyway to check my phone is raido S-OFF with out connect it to computer?

Pvt eng is the bootloader I believe. its showing s-off the security flag is set to off. I believe there is a thread explaining how to revert back to a non eng bootloader and to reset to s-on. I would suggest following that guide. Then once mack the manufacturer defaults in biotloader and security re-run gfree. It sounds to me that there was an error when it was initially ran. Let me know if I can help. Gtalk is the same as my screenname here.

I'm curious about this because I don't wanna open a new thread, and I'm having nearly the same problem (maybe?). Does the phone actually detect a SIM card? I can't tell whether we have the same problem or not.

Did you install HTC Sync? I had to install HTC Sync to get ADB working for me, else it won't recognize the phone. Even the bootloader will recognize an USB connection if you do it right.

my phone can read the sim card, it just wont search for any network, i tried to connect with usb cable today, and it got connected, sadly, i was transfer music from computer to Micro SD card, so the memory card wasn't in the phone, and when i reboot the phone and put memory card in, it wont detect the phone anymore, unknown device i tried sync, but it just said no device connected.

yes HTC sync won't recognize your phone but I believe ADB will. 'adb devices' says no device found? Did you try installing the whole SDK from google? it might work if you setup your phone in the SDK GUI.

[Q] Have i killed my desire?

Hi All,
Apologies for my first post being a cry for help but im seriously screwed at the moment.
I have a UK t-Mobile Desire that came preinstalled with 2.1, and so the story of my rooting failure begins.
First of all i tried using Unrevoked 3.1 and apparently this worked, but i was no longer able to enter recovery mode at all.
Following this i tried applying the Amon Ra loader to my device. Once this was completed the phone was seemlingly working fine but i still could not get into recovery mode, it would jsut hang on the circular logo.
By now im pretty fedup with the whole thing and i decided to unroot my device using the unlocker video guide and the unmodified RUU from this site.
Now my device boots (i guess) but the screen no longer works, at all. All i want to do is restore my phone to its factory state so i can use it.
Can please anyone help a poor newbie out.
You haven't killed it, but you should have read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749551
That includes a link to fix it, though it's not easy.
thanks for the response but according to the boot screen i had hboot 0.75
Your problem is SLCD. The bootloader is not relevant.
Sorry to be a complete numpty, but what process do i need to complete, there seem to be several options on that link.
thanks, i really appreciate any help
If you want to upgrade directly to Froyo just install this RUU (easy):
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe
If you want to try to get Android 2.1 back then this thread (difficult):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750852
I just tried the "easy" option and got the following error message from the Rom update utility.
ERROR[131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your android phone
Please get the correct ROM Update Utilility and try again.
You need a goldcard in the phone.
Ok, thanks for your help.
I will dissapear for an hour or two and see if i can get this fixed.
Eitherway many thanks for your help
Insert the goldcard, run the RUU, and it will be fixed.
when i try to create the goldcard i get an "error: device not found" message when running the adb ****** command
you create the gold card in your pc not the phone. i think
I am doing it on my pc, but it would seem that my pc cant "see" the desire. Im guessing that either USB debugging is off, or the phone is connected to the pc in anotehr "mode"
sigh
you make the goldcard on pc. then insert it into the phone
It must be that USB debugging is off. Does anyone know how to turn this on remotely or without seeing the screen?
Just use the goldcard you originally used with the RUU that broke your screen.
Or did you use a t-mobile branded RUU?
I dont have it
I used the tmobile branded one
When you flash an RUU you are restored to factory defaults, so usb debugging is off.
It is possible to enable usb debugging blindly if you read the other link I posted. It's difficult. Without a goldcard you cannot flash an SLCD-compatible RUU, which is the only way you can recover the phone. There aren't any branded RUUs available that support SLCD.

Bricked evo..help please

ok so i just tried rooting my evo. I used an out dated rooting method not compatible with the version of my phone. I have 3.30, hboot 2.02, and radio 2.15.00.09.01. When i turn the phone on it gets stuck at white htc screen. I can boot into the bootloader. I have tried running the ruu but when i do it doesnt recognize my phone is connected. I have htc drivers installed...i dont know what to, do please help
Does the hboot says s-on or s-off? If your s-off try flashing a rom through recovery or a pc36img ruu through the boot loader.

Well one, if you can get to the bootloader, you most likely aren't bricked, so breathe! What root method did you try to use? How far in the process did you get? How long did you let it stay at the HTC screen? Sometimes it takes a good long while. If I was in your situation, since your computer won't recognize phone, is take your SD card out of the phone. Download a stock ruu zip. Rename it to PC36IMG.zip. put it on your SD card, put SD card back in phone, and boot into the bootloader. It should find the zip, and you select to flash it. Give that a try.
EDIT: Damn,I'm always too late! And yea, as he said, if you are s off, and did successfully flash a recovery image, try flashing a Rom first. Id be surprised if you are s off with recovery if you used an old method with the 2.02 hboot. What happens when you select recovery from bootloader?
Find and download RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.2_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_154209_signed
That's the one that worked on a hardware 004 Evo I used the old method on
Any luck getting your phone back up?
my s is still on..when i go to recovery it shows the evo with the red exclamation mark. I will try putting the ruu zip on my memory card..i need to go get a usb for my hero as it seems i cannot find it and have no other way to put a file on my sd card. any ideas if that doesnt work? i am a little confused as why it will let me issue adb codes in the command prompt but htc sync does not pick up the phone
Yup your still not rooted. Try to get a way to put a file on your usb card so you can load a PC36IMG.zip ruu of your 3.30 rom so you can get back to stock and start your process over with unrevoked.

I have dealt with this issue before. It is difficult to get an ruu to run but I think it is worth it. Find the right ruu for your phone to get you back to stock. Once you have this get your phone in to bootloader and use the fastboot command I believe it is. This will help your computer recognize your phone. Then run the ruu after you have done this, may take a few tries but im positive it works. Good luck.

Do you have a card reader? that would also work. Would probably also be cheaper than a usb cable I would think, not sure though. (unless of course you still use the hero and want a new cable anyways)
Thanks guys your awesome...was able to get the stock ruu pc35img on my sdcard..time to give rooting it a second go..with the right procedure this time..haha..thanks again

Trying to RUU but it doesn't detect USB

Ok I'm following the steps on the unlockr.com to unroot my phone. It says plug phone into USB and select htc sync, but when I plug it in it just says turn on USB storage. I tried the RUU, but it doesnt detect USB connection?
What to do?
Have a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10509780&postcount=102
And doing this will allow me to take it to alltel if needed without any problems? I have a CDMA device by the way!
Should do, but it won't put it back to S-ON. Apparently it doesn't go back on CDMA phones. The software should be stock, though
Ok because right now I can't activate my phone because it's not on the alltel software anymore. So i just want it back stock lol!
Question. Can I copy the RUU over the other ROM I have installed currently? It's cyanogen mod 7
Yep, follow the guide I posted and it will return the phone to the stock Desire software. Only the S-OFF will remain
Thanks! I have it back now, but I still can't activate. I have to call customer service I guess, but I don't know what to tell them.

I installed the above drivers. But result is same.
Well Arsalan, it is long story. I will try to make it short.
To use custom ROM, I downgraded the HBOOT from 0.98 to 0.97, run Revolutionary and got S-OFF.
Installed CWM recvoery. Installed super user.
I installed a custom ROM thru recover, cm-10-20121003-UNOFFICIAL-vivow. The ROM installed well.
But it was not working on cellular netwrok. I searched the XDA and found the following file
I727UCMC1, flashed thru recovery and the problem started.
Since, then rebooting loop started. When I try to start recovery, it is not loading. After many attempts,
once started, but not showing SD card. But his SD card is loading during Bootloader. Can also run
PG32IMG file if proper one.
Since, SD card is not mounting, I tried to flash thru new ROM by HBOOT. But all is vain.
Then, to get back phone in working condition, I searched for STOCK ROM. Downloaded the following
RUU_Vivo_W_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.18.605.4_Radio_1.09.01.0622_NV_VZW1.92_release_200325_signed

RUU_Vivo_W_VERIZON_WWE_1.34.605.4_Radio_0.99.01.0225_2_NV_VZW1.92_release_182876_signed
I tired each one, The last one with installed when run the file from PC and phone was in FASTBOOT USB mode. It is now
2.2.1. The phone came with 2.3.4. It is now on older version.
There are still problems,
i) SD CARD is not showing,
ii) When restart, goes back to rebooting loop with white screen and HTC logo.
III) When start in HBOOT, still not loading recovery.
When I installed USB HOST CONTROLLER, it says following,
S3C USB Host driver NOT founded,
Root hub is not present, USB Host mode not active or not available.
So, phone camera is not working due to SD card, phone is not connecting to PC due to USB Host driver.

Also it claims it CID (in ADB) CWM__07. Something to that note at least.
My guess is that the previous owner just flashed a GPE-based ROM, and didn't do the full conversion. I say this since the phone is S-on; and S-off is needed for the full conversion.
The radio number is also the AT&T radio, not the GPE one.
Does the phone have the AT&T logo on the back?
What happens when you boot into recovery?
I'm thinking you can just flash a ROM of your choice; or relock the bootloader and run the AT&T RUU.

What exactly does it say for CID? AT&T CID is CWS__001, I'm guessing that is what you have.
I think that is the CID, okay that may be it. The recover is the latest of Philz Touch. The ruu always fails if I run it though, which confuses me cause I do want to run stock att room but with some rooted features is all.

Not enough info. Any error message? Did you relock the bootloader (required if S-on)?
Which RUU are you trying to run?
You can try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/att-2-23-502-3-bootable-ruu-pc-required-t2860486
Folks seem to have more luck with this, than the "official" .exe RUU.
Sorry for leaving some of that information out.
No, the bootloader is still unlocked, and it just comes back it couldn't do it. No error codes, just Failed to flash firmware and then you have to close it. I was trying to run the official HTC/AT&T RUU and that is the one that failed. I will try the new RUU you showed. Thanks!

There's your problem right there. I've already stated it twice, so I'm not sure how else to get it across. Let's try it again:
You need to relock the bootloader to run the RUU since you are S-on.
This goes with the bootable RUU I linked, as well.
I got that. There was a post glitch. I have tried re-locking it, but there seems to be an ADB issue with my device as it will not correctly send commands.

If the command "adb devices" does not return the device ID, you probably have a USB connectivity issue.
Try a different USB cable, or another USB port on your PC. Re-install HTC Sync, and if that still doesn't work, uninstall all HTC Sync and HTC drivers. Connect the phone, but do not choose the option to automatically install HTC Sync or drivers. Go to Device Manager, and find the device and manually pick the option for Generic Android MTP device (or something to that effect).

I got rid of HTC sync. The drivers are fine, but sync screws stuff up.

Yes, different solutions seem to work for different PCs. And HTC Sync seems to cause more issues than its worth. Really very little benefit to Sync, aside form the fact its the most "automated" way to install the drivers.
On my work laptop, everything worked fine (adb, fastboot, MTP) on the automatically installed HTC Sync (when you attach the phone). But on my home tower PC, only adb and fastboot worked, but I could never get the internal storage to mount MTP after trying various HTC drivers, uninstalling Sync, etc. Just uninstalling everything HTC and using the Generic Android MTP drivers via Device Manager is what finally worked on that computer (everything works now, adb, fastboot, MTP).
