i Have an internal Intel wimax card and planing to get clear spot 4g to run on sprint line. i was wondering if i clone the mac address of my htc evo to another wimax device and keep my 4g off on the the evo then the other device should work or is it more to do to make it work. please and thanks
You would also need the RSA keys
but what to do with the rsa keys or apply it to the other wimax device
You can't transfer the wimax/rsa keys from one device to another.

i heard different? can someone chime in?
The keys are encrypted and tied to the serial number of your Evo on Sprint's side of things.

This. Unless you can find a way to have the evo report a different sn to the tower, cloning the key would not work

To clarify both the key and the SN are tied to each other. You would have to regenerate the RSA key (which is encrypted) for a new SN. Have fun trying since only RSA is the Master Key holder. Break their encrypted key you can rest assured that you'll be getting a visit from some fine people from some three lettered agency.

OK, my wife just got her EVO and she NEVER uses her 4G. She doesn't understand too much on the phone, and really doesn't care to. And she NEVER remembers to plug it in and charge it, so the 4G is always turned off.
I, on the other hand, use the hell out of 4G, or at least I did before I lost my RSA keys.
So, can I use her RSA keys, since she'll never use them anyhow? Everyone has now learned how to back up the WiMax, or the RSA keys, but how do you reinstall them, and if I reinstall her keys, will they work on my phone? The other option is to have Sprint change the numbers on the two phones, swapping hers for mine and vice versa. Probably the easiest way to go really, but if the RSA keys from her phone will work, we would be able to do this with a minimum of fuss, and we could avoid her asking me why the hell we have to switch phones.
why not just switch phones via sprint?

It is the only option. You lost your keys they are gone for good and the keys are phone specific.
Edit: If you have an old nandroid from AmonRa backup then you may be able to get your RSA's back in line. Don't know for sure because I am not willing to break it to find out. But AmonRA made that for the backup just for that reason. Everytime you nandroid it is the exact same info in the wimax.img file.
I believe it possible. I remember reading a post where somebody restored somebody else's rsa keys but could only use 4g one at a time cause it logs into Sprint It was a while back when ppl first started losing there keys.

Swyped From Eva Running Myn's RLS4.95 or My Rom!
Okay guys, thanks for the input. Looks like I'll just switch phones with my wife. She should be pleased...I have mine set up pretty nicely. First thing I'm going to do to hers is BACK UP EVERYTHING, AND NOT WITH CLOCKWORK!
Thanks for the input everyone. Though, it almost seems pointless to back up the RSA keys since nobody seems to know how to reinstate them once lost! I guess it is still better to have them than not to have them. Thanks again everyone.
yeah do the RSA backup prior to rooting and do the certificate backup too.
Clockwork now backs up the wimax and rsa keys, but stay with aman ra if it works for you.
Ok. I live in a area where Sprint's 4G isn't present at all. However, a company that provides internet through WiMAX to us people out in BFE, who can't get landline internet, are able to use this. The DL speeds I think, max out for this company at around 3-6Mbps. Instead of using Sprint 3G coverage, which isn't full RevA 3.1Mbps, it's like 1-1.5Mbps.
Long story short, can I/could I modify my 4G/WiMAX MAC Address or something to jump on their towers and fully get my $10/Month worth?
I tried looking for this on my own, but the things that I am finding are if I recently did a OS Update, and my MAC has been mixed up and scrambled, not to fully mod the MAC.
edit: would there be a way, to even know if this would work? as in do they have to know my MAC address to provide me the service? Basically, an approval?
edit: post has been moved.

At least I am not the only one who wants to know. Lol.
I could be way off base, but this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733773) talks about editing wimax signal settings, maybe exploring in that menu will let you edit other wimax settings to get you what you want. Perhaps somebody with more technical knowledge can confirm/dispell this theory. Hopefully this at least points in the right direction...

not really.. however this guide was helpful though. but i am looking for a way to modify my entire WiMAX structure to read off these "foriegn, non-sprint" towers that are data only.
anyone here know how to change 4g mac address?

Sorry to burst your bubble but you have RSA keys on your phone for a reason. to verify you are who you are and to make sure your data doesn't get mixed up and that you can use clear's towers (sprint basically).
The company probably has a way to identify authorized users on its network and who is not authorized to use it.
That is the issue you ill most likely run into when you are trying to connect to their network.
Technically you shouldn't be able to do that but maybe the company doesn't give a damn....Ehh
I have tried several different Roms that have working 4-g coverage, Every rom in try when i try to connect to 4g it tells me its scanning but wont connect, I have updated all radio wimax pri and nv, i still get the same thing says it is scanning for 4-g but wont connect. my wife has 4-g shift and 4-g connects fine in my house. 3-g works fine but no 4-g, can anybody help me with this issue.
In the market download Wimax key checker to see if you still have your keys

But hopefully you backed up your Wimax like every tutorial advised you lol

yes it says my htc evo rsa key is present. but still no 4-g just scans with a question mark.

Or maybe your not in range of 4g or you don't have 4g service. Or possiblity Sprint tower is down. You have to look at those list and if everything fails unroot restore.back to factory setting see if your 4g works if not maybe you need to exchange it for new EVO cause it could be the hardware who knows.

Mattykinsx, steered you right, I followed the procedure in that thread and have since been extremely pleased with my 4g service. Of course as they say "ymmv", but it did work for me.
don't forget to wipe..
So long story somewhat short, I purchased a Epic Touch 4G on Craigslist to find out that it had a bad ESN because the previous owner did not pay the bill. I searched out a possible fixes for this and found someone who flashes phones to Boost. He said he would be able to take the settings from my Evo 4G and place them on the ET4G to make it work. For the service I gave him my phone so he could flash it to Boost for himself. He set up the phone and it was sending and receiving calls, data seemed to work no problem as well. So I had him clear all the data, meid, memory ect.. from my old phone (evo) and I went on my way. I'm kind of savy about all of this, but just wanted someone else who knew what they were doing and had all the utilities to take care of it.
Anyway, upon driving around with Pandora on in the car I noticed the data would drop quite often. I looked into the settings on the phone and found that profile 1 contains a boost user as the username and it appears to have all the settings for someone else's account that uses boost. He must have copied the wrong settings onto my phone.. my original phone settings are now gone. So I don't think I have any hope of recovering the HA SPI, HA pass, AAA SPI and AAA pass. What can I do? I share a family plan with my wife, can I copy the settings from her phone onto mine? Will both phones work with the same settings, or will this cause problems? 2 phones using the same settings. I imagine it won't because apparently i'm using someone else's account for data currently. If copying her info would work, what do I need to be sure to transfer over? My understanding is NV Items 465, 466, 1192, and 1194 is all I need? I'm using the Evo > Boost and EPT4G > Boost guides to get an idea about how to do it.
Sort of long and a lot of questions. I hope someone out there can give me a little information. I guess worst case I could pick up a cheap used phone, swap to that and then swap those settings back onto the EPT4G
If he copied over the MEID, M.IP Profile 0 data, and 1192+1194 correctly from the old phone, you should be able to update profile. That will remove the incorrect Profile 1 from Boost and populate the correct Profile 1 values.
Copying the data from your wife's phone won't work.
I just activated my ET4G on Boost myself first with a incognito then xfering all the setting to the Epic Touch while back. After reading your post, my first question is do you even have a boost account, since your saying there are setting username...etc from someone else.
He doesn't use Boost. He stated he couldn't use the phone because it has a bad ESN. That means he's on Sprint.

Lets see if I can code his post, op had an evo on sprint/bought the ET bad ESN, so the guy copied the sprint EVO to the ET so that the ET will work with Sprint, and the guy kept the EVO for himself.
If that is the case then there should be no Boost info on the ET which was coped from the Evo how that info got there is a mistery since the Evo was pure Sprint.
Could he just enable Profile 0? which seems to be the sprint profile.

So true only the flasher guy knows, unless something is up as in shady, since someone else boost account profile is on the phone. Ooooo well. Op kept us update this could be interesting.
reset the data profile and update it... if it was done correctly you should be fine.. if not youre ****ed

normally I do not see how you could end up messing with the mac id from just rooting. if you do not see the address in about phone it's often due to your wimax being turned off and have not been connected yet. fortunately off it is messed up there isn't much panic you should be able too restore it off you search for autoprime full wimax settings thread. there's no crazy rsa keys to lose on this phone, so all is not loss
