EVO 4G digitizer doesnt work - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just bought a replacement digitizer from ebay, I first have to say that this will be my first replacement, so maybe I missed a step. So after I replaced screen, I connected the 3 connectors like they should, I screwed the one screw on the top right, and screwed the 6 t-4 screw. I turned on the phone, and it seems like it wont register touch. It also seems that its more responsive to touch when plugged to the wall. I was able to get to the calibrate touch screen, I was finished with that and still no response. So now my question is...
A) Did i miss a step?
B) Is this something common and can be fixed with settings?
C) Does this sound like a bad digitizer?
I emailed the company that sold me this digitizer, and they will exchange my digitizer. But before I ship it back I would like to know if it was me who is doing something wrong, or if its the digitizer.
ps. Not sure if I can post the link to the ebay item...

Changed Digitizer on Touch Pro 2, now it is dead! HELP!

I recently recieved a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 from a trusted E-Bay seller. When I recieved the phone it worked perfectly, but the digitizer screen was cracked up. I found the T-Mobile model digitizer online and replaced it. Now the phone is DEAD. I have checked and rechecked EVERY ribbon cable and connection I can find and have insured all is attached properly. Battery has a full charge and works (tested it on my Dash 3g as they use the same battery). I even tried plugging it in and turning it on with.without the battery in and still nothing! Am I sunk?
I am hoping someone may have the answer... maybe I am overlooking something like a bone head? I really would appreciate any and all input. Thanks.
ight dude, been here with an iphone. first, do your self a favor and disconnect the new TS and replace the old one. did it work?
if yes, you have a problem, and it can be isolated to the new TS. if no, yu just did something wrong OR you shocked the mobo. Try not ot to do that.
Most likely though, it is a reassembly issue. I remember hwen i did this to my tilt, there was hell to pay and i thought i broke it. not so much. Just had a switch constantly being pressed in that shouldn't have been and didn't allow the device to POST.
Also, if you cna, how did you replace the TS part? i am about to do that to a Tilt2 and a touch pro 2 (same phone)

Replaced desire AMOLED screen - Still blank

After dropping my desire the screen had an obvious crack (no crack in the glass/digitiser) and displayed crazy colours from the crack, spreading across the screen over the course of the day until finally going completely blank.
Bought a new screen on ebay, same part number, same samsung AMOLED. Replaced today and the phone exhibits exactly the same behaviour. Switches on, digitiser works to the extent I can unlock and lock the phone, but screen is constant black. After a few switch on/offs the screen showed two green lines at the top and about half way down upon unlocking, that went away after another lock and unlock.
Pretty confident that the disassemble/assemble went ok and I didnt stress any flex connectors or similar... so have no idea what could still be wrong....
As I say, phone boots and can unlock/lock (makes the right noises etc) and is recognised by computer when plugged in.
Could using the phone until the screen completely stopped working have broken the controller or something?
Any input greatly appreciated.....
EDIT:
Just switched it on again, green line at top from keyboard lighting point, then the whole screen went blue on unlock. :S
This sound like a dying something, or maybe just bad contacts? Find it strange that unlocking has an effect....
Might be a bad connection or little shortcut?
Here is an official video on how to assemble and disassemble the device, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768535. Don't know if that helps but you can check if you did something wrong in the progress.

Seeing as the part was shipped from my country and had the exact same markings and serial numbers as the part I removed, I dont think this is the issue.
Thanks for the video, will disassemble and clean all contacts later today.
Was mainly posting to see if people had heard of/experienced the same issue, trying to ascertain whether it could be a faulty replacement or if its possible to break the hardware that runs the screen.
A good fake can be hard to tell apart from an OEM part...
So the consensus is that its a fake replacement? Really? The screen seems identical in all markings and connectors, my only conclusion can be it came from the same factory. What market would there be in producing defective replicas of mobile phone components?
Anyway I have sent the screen back to the seller for a replacement.
Any response to my other questions? Is it possible to damage the hardware that drives the screen by using the phone with a dying screen to the point of blank display?
Reading through another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933866
Post #6 suggests the rom on the phone could have an effect, is this the case?
Thanks for any input.
Rom couldn't be the issue if you've installed the exact same screen.
My guess would be a loose connector.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
My desire lives!
Replacement screen worked just fine....
Thanks for everyones responses!
Can you post the link to the seller on ebay, from whom you bought the display?

[Q] Just replaced digitizer and home button and left side of screen arent working

A customer brought her G2 on simple mobile to me with this problem: The letter "A" wont work on portrait mode nor will the home key. I figured it was the digitizer so I replaced that with an OEM Replacement part and as soon as we booted back up the problem was still there. Could it be her OS is corrupt or possibly a warp in the case thats keeping the plate from contacting the faceplate. I'm rather stumped as I ran a logcat and I saw nothing out of the ordinary during normal input. Any help is appreciated.
Touch plate? I am confused to what you mean by this. I am not too familiar with the electronic construction of a digitizer so any info would be helpful.
The digitizer isn't coming in contact with the face plate I believe. (Sorry I used like three different words to describe the same thing in my previous post) Any tips on how to fix that would be great. I saw a video on youtube that stated a part where a heat gun would be used but I never came across a front panel (The part with "T-mobile" on it so I installed the digitizer and went along). I think I may have messed up.
i have the same problem, i dropped the phone, and the touch screen was broken, i replaced it but now the left side and home button arent worksing
ps the broken screen worked still also on the left side , did you find a solution ?
I have the same problem.
I believe it's the ribbon cable, not the Digitizer. The ribbon cables on this phone hangs between both screens and is fairly exposed at times.
I still have a couple weeks in my warranty to return it to HTC, but I can't get it to S-on. Unless I get S-on before warranty is up, I'm going to have to replace it myself.
Ribbon cables for this phone cost ~$30 on ebay. tell me if you fix it.
Any luck with this, anyone?

If your Touchscreen/Home buttons are not working (Probable Error)

About two months ago, my screen decided to die. I ended up getting a new phone, but I still had my Play sitting here bothering me. So I decided to get to fixing it.
When I tore it apart, I thought that the digitizer had died, but what I found was actually the connecting the digitiser, LCD and Buttons together was damaged.
So I ordered one on ebay for about $10. When I got the cable, it seemed to be about 3-4CM shorter than the OEM one. Which supports why I think this may have been a design error on Sony's part. What was happening was Sony's god awful mechanism for sliding the screen up and down had pinched the cable, and caused it to be damaged.
I know this might be a longshot, but I think that some people might be able to save a dead device by replacing this one simple part, I know it worked wonders for my play, as well as a friends.
I will post a link to the part as soon as my post count is up.
So not the digitalizer?

I am having this problem as well. touchscreen doesn't work nor does the home button. Volume down button seems to fail while in CWM recovery as well. I was thinking about replacing the digitizer but now I'm not so sure. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated
If OP's saying what's busted is the part where all the digitizer, physical buttons, and LCD converge, that's the SLIDER FLEX. I replaced mine twice already. It gets pinched very easily. That's the weakness of slider phones. You have to accept that from the moment you decided to buy the Xperia PLAY. It happens to all sliders, live with it, face it.

Hi,
Only thing I can think of is that somehow it has damaged the cable from the touchscreen or the tiny wires that feed into the cable without damaging the screen. I came across a brand new screen I was replacing once for someone that had a similar problem where the bottom left hand corner wouldn't respond to touch unless there was firm pressure on the screen to create contact, and this was a brand new screen. It could also be that the touchscreen connector needs to be pushed back onto the board if it's come a bit loose.
If this is the problem, you can fix it by yourself although I'd have a good look around youtube, there are heaps of DIY videos of how to replace screens. If you do go down this path I recommend you replace the touchscreen/LCD/LCD frame in one go, as it's generally already pre- assembled the only thing here is that there are 3 brands of LCD's HTC used with the phone and they aren't all compatible, and you can only tell by pulling down your phone and looking at the LCD flex cable colours, and the other thing is that the screens that are available aren't always the same quality as the original. If this sounds to hard your best bet is to take it somewhere and diagnose the problem just in case it's something else
