I'm having problems with giving my phone a static IP on my wifi.
I have used different kernels and the CM7 and MIUI mods.
I put in the static address, yet connecting to the wifi shows "Obtaining IP Address" and sticks on one assigned by the router.
I have no problems assigning a static IP address on other devices on my network.
I've wiped dalvik and data/cache and did a clean install of CM7, but the problem exists, regardless of rom.
Any ideas what might be the problem?

Bah, nevermind, just had to fill every single field before it would kick in.
wifi static not working
Android supports wifi static with proper ip and gateway..
means (1) ip . 192.168.12.33 and default gateway 192.168.12.1 will work fine but
(2) ip . 192.168.12.33 and default gateway 110.133.13.23 won't work....
All other Mobile os accepting this type of IP. Only android not supporting ..
Pls make an app.
Here for (2) , you get Remembered, secured with WEP
Disabeld, secured with WEP toggling..but no connection

Since installing Froyo on my Desire, I can not connect to my local wireless router (Belkin N1 Wireless router) when using a dynamic IP address. Previously (on eclair) this was no problem what so ever.
When I try connecting, it keeps saying it's trying to aqcuire an IP address, but nothing happens.
When I check the routers overview of connected devices (DHCP client list), I see this:
ip address: 192.168.2.4
host name: android_f07d6a45ÿÿÿÿþÿÿÿ (yup, strange characters)
I tried connecting to my macbook via WIFI, and that worked without a hitch.
After restoring factory settings on my Desire, factory settings on the router, installing newest router firmware... I tried again, but to no avail!
Then I gave the Desire a static IP address and presto; I could connect to my wireless router without a problem.
In conclusion:
Before Froyo: connecting to wireless router with dynamic IP addresses = no problem
With Froyo: can only connect to router with static IP and Desire's hostname contains strange characters
Most other wifi networks seems to work.
Anyone else having similair problems? Is the Desire's strange hostname the problem?
This was a problem for me with Eclair too, and yes I'm still experience it, the only solution I found before was "wifi-fixer" or what ever the app was called (it's found via the market). But it did not work all the time... :-(
Update: I can connect to Dynamic-IPs without noticing any strange Chars. But its the "unable to..." that's similar to your's.

These settings should be different from router to router
I can give you mine, but I doubt it will help you:
IP: 192.168.2.4
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
DNS 1: 192.168.2.1
DNS 2: BLANK
Depening on your router and settings, you might have to change the ".2." in all of these to ".0."
The "4" in the IP address is also free for you to chose (must be available though)
Hey!
I have now Bada 2.0 on my S8500 it is the SHP Version from lasentenza
But there is now Wifi working .
The Mac Adress from my Wave is in the Router.
And I Use static IP because I dont have DHCP.
But When i write all things in there (IP Adress, Gateway etc)
and then connect with the Network my Mobile says no answer from ap.
When I connect again with the network all the settings are reseted!.
Does WiFi only work with DHCP on Bada 2.0 i mean is Static IP Buggy???
What also confused me that my Wave says my Wireless Lan Network is WPA/WPA2 Network but it is a WPA2 not a WPA Oo
Greetings
yes... it happend to me too.. anyone have solution?
My only solutions:
You can switch DHCP on at your Router or flash back on Bada 1.2 .
It would by great if there are better ways!!!
still not solved in XPKG6...
Today i was trying to get a static-ip and i found this bug
Why it is still in XXLG1 ?!!!!!!
Any solutions ?!
Best Regards
I have Static IP but its very tricky. First, it connects with DHCP for me.
Then I go to WiFi menu and disable WiFi and quickly press the arrow on the right of my network.
If you do it, you can set Static IP easily. I've never tested if I disable DHCP at first.
I don't know why, but suddenly my Defy not connect with some Wifi networks, my work, my home, some publics.
I found it's beause the DHCP not assign the correct IP, if I use an static address works fine.
I'm read in some threads of the samsung GT, it's because android 2.2 memorize the last IP assigned and try to use this one, like a bug in the system. I trying delete the networks saved, and the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list, like explain in http://steve-shaffer.com/2011/02/samsung-galaxy-tab-wifi/
In my Defy I don't have this file, and don't fix anything.
The problem looks the same but the fix doesn't, only connecting with static IP it works fine.
Any suggestions?
I have the M525
Android 2.2.1
System Version.34.4.709.MB525.AmericaMovil.en.01
Version number 3.4.2.107_JDNL-9
Thanks in advance for any suggestion
I used to have a very similar problem, it used to connect immediately when i used static ip but not when i set it for automatic. But i assumed the problem was from some roms (cm7 had some wifi issues). Now it works fine though.
I also setup dhcp reservation for the phone using its mac address from the router's side. Honestly though i dont know if that fixed the problem, but as of now it works and im fine with it.
Can somebody confirm that 4.0 supports multiple wi-fi profiles? 2.3 had the issue that you could not have multiple wi-fi settings with each their own static info/IP. You are forced to changed it every time you go to a wireless network which requires static info.

What kind of wireless access point requires that you supply static IP anyway? It's almost always dynamic IP with DHCP or static IP bound to MAC address assigned with DHCP..
A number of routers I connect to, to bind every internal IP to a certain IP number

You should do this with static IP reservations with MAC addresses, and not rely on clients to supply their own static IPs.
I got my answer since I have the phone.
Here is a head scratcher...
When changing the IP subnet from 192.168.1.x to 192.168.2.x (or any thing else for that matter) the HTC One M8 will not connect to the WiFi. It will only connect when the subnet is 192.168.1.x. All the other devices - even an iPhone - work without issue when moving them to the new subnet. Everything on my LAN uses a static IP address. I assign them all myself and write down what devices use what address.
Does anybody know how to fix this? The phone is 100% factory and it is not mine, so rooting is out of the question.
