New Dash owner here, I tried searching for an answer, but did not have any success.
When I try to connect to a wireless access point at work with a static IP address it just shows connecting and never actually does. I can connect to other access points that use DHCP with no problem. I entered the IP address, subnet, default gateway, DNS servers and WEP encryption key that I use on my laptop. Am I missing something? I am using 3VOLUTION WM6.5.

For some odd reason I am unable to use WIFI at work on our 3COM wireless routers. I can connect to all the access points fine, but it never routes. I can ping other internal IP addresses, but I am not able to ping public IP addresses outside of our network.
I started looking through logcat and found that it is setting the gateway to 120.123.1.0 when it should obviously be 192.168.1.1. I looked everywhere in the router settings and the gateway is specified as 192.168.1.1. This is obviously a problem! Why in the world is it picking up this bogus gateway IP address from these routers?
I've had no problems with any other routers and an office neighbor is able to get wifi just fine on his iPhone. Any clues?
Well it is definitely just a gateway issue. I opened a shell with adb and set the gateway to 192.168.1.1 manually and I was able to to access the internet via wifi on the 3COM wireless router.
Does anyone have any idea why the EVO would not obtain the correct gateway? Every other system on the wireless network gets the right data from the DHCP server. I don't care how much of a long shot your suggestions or ideas are, I am looking for any leads to investigate. I've already double checked everything in the wireless router and DHCP server and the mysterious gateway IP (120.123.1.0) is nowhere to be found.
IP, netmask, DNS, DHCP server, and lease time are all coming in fine.

I recently came across connectify app and installed it on my Windows 7 laptop. It installed just fine and created a WIFI Hotspot for me.
But when I try to connect to that WIFI Hotspot from my desire , it keeps saying "Obtaining IP Address from Connectify" and never connects. I am not sure what's wrong , something in my Desire or something with Connectify or if I need to fix some settings in my Win7 laptop ?
Can someone please advise.
FYI - Windows 7 is connected to a my workplace LAN and requires a proxy authentication if i need to access internet.

Even I'm facing problems connecting to Connectify.
I suspect that IP address is not getting assigned since there are no DHCP servers running on the PC. That might be the first problem
Second thing is, even if I run a dhcp server (I'm yet to do it...) in my PC, I think the wifi and ethernet might be on the same or different network based on how the dhcp server is configured. But setting Default Gateway and DNS settings are whats getting me confused.
If I can find some Idle time, i can experiment and try it.. If anyone is already using it successfully, they can post on how to do it here.. will be very helpful.
My laptop is connected to my ADSL modem via ethernet cable, and I'm connecting the mobile to my Laptop's wifi (Via connectify which makes the WLAN in laptop appear as an Access point). This connectify should share the wired internet to my mobile via Wlan but i'm have not yet found how to set it up..

I have the same problem with Connectify 2.0.1.15550, what version are you using?

I had the same problem with connectify and I sincerely suggest you to try Virtual Router. It's crappy but it works.

About proxy, that's a whole other story. Still messing with Transproxy, but no success yet.
Hey. I tried Connectify put I got the 'obtaining IP address' problem.
So I tried Virtual Router ... but again I have having problems 'obtaining IP'.
I am trying to connect my Samsung Galaxy S to my Windows 7 Laptop.

Connectify`s main usage is to share the wired broadband to the mobile using wifi in laptop as a hotspot. It should be fairly straightforward but needs to set some settings correctly. It would be great if someone for whom its working to post it setp-by-step. Will be really helpful.
And strangely there are no guides on the net on how to set it up exactly in wondows 7 and connectify homepage does not give any useful info.
I keep getting "obtaining IP address from..." on my Android device...
why is this?
Virtual Router or connectify don't work..
is it because android does not support Ad-Hoc?
I have running Froyo 2.2 though...

Hi,
I don't know if it's really the same problem here but I also had some issues with Windows 7, connectify and the devices I tried to connect.
After following the steps to create a wifi hotspot, I had to deactivate the windows firewall on the private networks (I specified to windows that the connectify network was a private network).
There should be a way to setup the correct permission in the firewall's permission table to make it work properly... Unfortunatly I haven't find it yet.
So it's a quick fix. Hope it will help you.

i faced the same problem in connecting my Wildfire to PC with connectify.
finally i got my own way to sort it out
as most of u got till "obtaining IP address" next is
menu>settings>wireless and networks> wifi settings.
in that again menu>Advanced .
fill these settings
1. check on the static IP
2. IP addres = 192.168.2.2
3. Gateway = 192.168.2.1
4. netmask = 255.255.255.0
5. dsn1 = 8.8.8.8
6. dsn2 = 8.8.4.4
now close wifi and restare wifi Hope it will work. It worked for me

You need this file for the Desire - search around XDA. You might have to download version 6 of the file.
When you download it, flash it from recovery.
Meanwhile, create an adhoc network on your laptop or wherever, configure the IP address (192.168.137.1 is the IP of the laptop - Windows, for some reason or another, doesn't like sharing on other IPs, though I haven't tried lately) and set your encryption to WEP.
Share your connection from LAN, and you're good to go. On the phone, the adhoc networks will be represented with an asterisk, like
(*)network
none of them work on win 7 64 bit - on win 7 32 bit I cen get IP, on 64 bit cant, whan assigned static IP by below at previous posts, I can connect, but internet does not work.

i came here from google as well. i had the obtaining ip address issue with connectify on win xp and zte blade with cyanogenmod (N142). thanks to this post, i solved the obtaining ip issue, and my phone managed to connect to connectify. apparently: my phone doesn't appear in clients tab in connectify, and my phone doesn't transfer any data traffic. so from the phone it looks like connected, but from connectify no.
edit: i found out that i succesfully connect to connectify with my smartphone only the first time i try (because it worked the very first time i used connectify and the first time i tried again after a complete reset of my phone). then, if i disconnect/reconnect, i find the "obtaining IP"/"no data traffic" issues. of course, resetting my phone each time i want to use my laptop's wifi isn't very handy..

same here, couldnt believe my luck when it worked first time with my HD2 and galaxy.
but like you say, it was a one-hit-wonder and pulled my hair out for next hour trying to re-connect but same "obtaining IP" probs.
anyone throw some light on this???????
I'm having problems with giving my phone a static IP on my wifi.
I have used different kernels and the CM7 and MIUI mods.
I put in the static address, yet connecting to the wifi shows "Obtaining IP Address" and sticks on one assigned by the router.
I have no problems assigning a static IP address on other devices on my network.
I've wiped dalvik and data/cache and did a clean install of CM7, but the problem exists, regardless of rom.
Any ideas what might be the problem?

wifi static not working
Android supports wifi static with proper ip and gateway..
means (1) ip . 192.168.12.33 and default gateway 192.168.12.1 will work fine but
(2) ip . 192.168.12.33 and default gateway 110.133.13.23 won't work....
All other Mobile os accepting this type of IP. Only android not supporting ..
Pls make an app.

My wifi at home worked perfectly fine until about a week or two ago. Since then when I connect to my home wifi it appears to be connected with 5 bar signal but the internet is not working . Sometimes I have internet for few seconds, but than it's gone.
I tried 3 different roms including stock , viperx and cyanogenmod 11 all with the same problem.
What do you suggest me to do ?

I just tried to use my laptop as a wifi hotspot and it worked so the router seems to be problematic .
But I have 2 laptops connected to the same router and are working fine.
Maybe some bad settings
My router uses Openwrt with most settings default.

check if something like parental control is enabled or if the hox mac number is blacklisted... check also if there are conflicts in dhcp and ip reservation....
I would disable DHCP in your phone and put a static ip.
Hold down on the network name till a windows pops up then go on Modify Network>Show Advanced Options>Ip Settings>Static
IP Address: 192.168.x.128 (The X depends on what range your router is. Just do an ipconfig on your laptop to see, 1 is the most commonly used)
Gateway: 192.168.x.x (That is your router address do ipconfig on your laptop to find the 'Default Gateway'
DNS 1: 192.168.x.x (Same as the router as most routers have their own DNS)
DNS 2: 8.8.8.8 (I normally put google's )

Thanks for suggestion. Unfortunately It still doesn't work. It have internet access for a few seconds after I connect but then
it's gone.

I wasn't able to find parental controls on my openwrt router firmware. I am pretty sure mac filtering is not enabled.
try to hard reset the device...
