Can somebody confirm that 4.0 supports multiple wi-fi profiles? 2.3 had the issue that you could not have multiple wi-fi settings with each their own static info/IP. You are forced to changed it every time you go to a wireless network which requires static info.

What kind of wireless access point requires that you supply static IP anyway? It's almost always dynamic IP with DHCP or static IP bound to MAC address assigned with DHCP..
A number of routers I connect to, to bind every internal IP to a certain IP number

You should do this with static IP reservations with MAC addresses, and not rely on clients to supply their own static IPs.
I got my answer since I have the phone.

Since installing Froyo on my Desire, I can not connect to my local wireless router (Belkin N1 Wireless router) when using a dynamic IP address. Previously (on eclair) this was no problem what so ever.
When I try connecting, it keeps saying it's trying to aqcuire an IP address, but nothing happens.
When I check the routers overview of connected devices (DHCP client list), I see this:
ip address: 192.168.2.4
host name: android_f07d6a45ÿÿÿÿþÿÿÿ (yup, strange characters)
I tried connecting to my macbook via WIFI, and that worked without a hitch.
After restoring factory settings on my Desire, factory settings on the router, installing newest router firmware... I tried again, but to no avail!
Then I gave the Desire a static IP address and presto; I could connect to my wireless router without a problem.
In conclusion:
Before Froyo: connecting to wireless router with dynamic IP addresses = no problem
With Froyo: can only connect to router with static IP and Desire's hostname contains strange characters
Most other wifi networks seems to work.
Anyone else having similair problems? Is the Desire's strange hostname the problem?
This was a problem for me with Eclair too, and yes I'm still experience it, the only solution I found before was "wifi-fixer" or what ever the app was called (it's found via the market). But it did not work all the time... :-(
Update: I can connect to Dynamic-IPs without noticing any strange Chars. But its the "unable to..." that's similar to your's.
static IP won't help

These settings should be different from router to router
I can give you mine, but I doubt it will help you:
IP: 192.168.2.4
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
DNS 1: 192.168.2.1
DNS 2: BLANK
Depening on your router and settings, you might have to change the ".2." in all of these to ".0."
The "4" in the IP address is also free for you to chose (must be available though)
So, I was having some strange issues maintaining a connection to my tv and after exhausting options device side, I began looking at the networking side and after some serious tuning of the router settings, I believe I may have found a recipe for success:
Make sure upnp is on.
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP
I also have my wireless set to wpa and aes in case the encryption was causing the problem.
Hope this helps
What do you mean you were having trouble staying connected to your tv? It would just disconnect or you had trouble connecting to your router?

Either it would time out after connecting, or would not see the tv. I have two wireless routers too so I i had too make sure it was done on both.
Anyone have a favourite wi-fi static ip manager?
(I'm on stock gb.)
-----
At home, I have to set a static ip or I can't connect. So far this is (sort of) ok - I turn off static ip when I leave, turn it back on when I return. The settings are remembered. However, if I have to start setting different static ip at different locations, this is going to quickly become a PITA.
In another building, 4 different SSID's available, the phone just goes into a disconnect / connect cycle on 3 of them (1 a TP-Link router, other 2 on a Cisco Valet M10) - never getting an IP. I'm guessing I'm running into the same static ip problem there, and need to set different static ip's depending upon which SSID I want to connect to.
Anyone have a favourite app for per SSID static ip setting / remembering?
TIA

Why the need for static IP? DHCP should work great. I use DHCP on my phone and never have to worry. Is it a security issue?

D'OH!. Sorry, left that part completely out ...
Hardware issues of some sort, between routers and phone.
e.g. At home, everything is happy, non-phone, wired and wireless. With phone, with DHCP, it never connects. As soon as I set static, off it goes.
I agree, other places, leave DHCP, and all is fine.
But not at home, and now, I suspect, at this other location.
Various threads in various places seem to acknowledge the problem, it's not limited to particular phones or routers as far as anybody can tell, and the problem hasn't been pinned down to any particular cause / solution. One thread ponders whether it's an 802.11n-only router issue, but that isn't my case. I wonder if it has to do with particular router chipsets, but haven't enough information to draw any correlation.
So, I'm thinking it's worth trying static IPs at the other location, and thought I'd ask if anyone had a favourite app.
(It being all too easy to drown in useless results at the store, much like any internet search.)
Unfortunately I would say the majority of people use DHCP. If I were you I would try to fix the DHCP compatibility issue with your router. Try updating your firmware on it or lowering it to an older version. If your router supports it try DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.ca/site/index) You can always also change your router but that has a cost associated to it, so try the free stuff first. Perhaps you have already done all this and I am just talking to hear my own voice (text). In that case disregard my message and carry on....
Just trying to be helpful..

I agree, the majority of the time, DHCP works.
Part of the point of asking

is that it doesn't all of the time.
And such an app is a diagnostic step towards detecting if a static/DHCP issue is in play.
Already running OpenWRT on my own router, Netgear WNDR3700 {dual-band, gigabit} (that needs the static IP, and I'm good with that).
Of course, I have no control over the routers in other locations.

My wifi at home worked perfectly fine until about a week or two ago. Since then when I connect to my home wifi it appears to be connected with 5 bar signal but the internet is not working . Sometimes I have internet for few seconds, but than it's gone.
I tried 3 different roms including stock , viperx and cyanogenmod 11 all with the same problem.
What do you suggest me to do ?
are you sure it's not a router issue?

I just tried to use my laptop as a wifi hotspot and it worked so the router seems to be problematic .
But I have 2 laptops connected to the same router and are working fine.
Maybe some bad settings
My router uses Openwrt with most settings default.

check if something like parental control is enabled or if the hox mac number is blacklisted... check also if there are conflicts in dhcp and ip reservation....
I would disable DHCP in your phone and put a static ip.
Hold down on the network name till a windows pops up then go on Modify Network>Show Advanced Options>Ip Settings>Static
IP Address: 192.168.x.128 (The X depends on what range your router is. Just do an ipconfig on your laptop to see, 1 is the most commonly used)
Gateway: 192.168.x.x (That is your router address do ipconfig on your laptop to find the 'Default Gateway'
DNS 1: 192.168.x.x (Same as the router as most routers have their own DNS)
DNS 2: 8.8.8.8 (I normally put google's )

I wasn't able to find parental controls on my openwrt router firmware. I am pretty sure mac filtering is not enabled.
try to hard reset the device...
just updated my SW3 to Android 5.1.1
my office wifi router required every client to set manual/static IP address.
any suggestion how to do this on SW3?

I am pretty sure you can do this in the advanced section of the wifi settings on the watch.
hi i can't find any option to set a static ip. Not on the watch and not on the dialog on the phone where i have to enter the password.
@Joachim Winter have you tried it, cause i dont know how i should set it there?
Thanks
Something like this might work via adb assuming it's just like regular Android?
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...tic-ip-address-using-android-debug-bridge-adb
Can't find too much info on changing WiFi configuration with adb
Assigning a static IP address would be an issue on thew watch especially if you want to use the WiFi connectivity option on other networks.
But reserving an address on your router would be a better option, meaning DHCP would always assign the same IP address to your watches MAC address. It's usually under DHCP and Address Reservation in your router settings.
