[Q] no vibrate? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i flashed the destroyer ROM and now my vibrate wont work for anything, not even wen u put the volume all the way down for it to show its on vibrate. It did work before i flashed the ROM i also did re-flash it and wiped everything and it still doesn't work, any help?

try a nandroid restore and see if that fixes your problem and if not then wipe everything and install as sprint ruu rom and one more thing . Post questions in the Q&A forum... they WILL be answered.!!!!

Not sure about that one. All I know is that I've had this same problem before and had to install the RUU to repair it.

alright i will try this

found THIS

I know this might sound weird but I had the vibration in my EVO start to get weaker and then stop altogether. Turns out the little spinning vibrating motor got jammed.
I fixed it by standing on my bed, holding my phone parallel to the ground, screen facing the ceiling and dropping it from about 3 feet onto a pillow. The jolt kick-started my haptic feedback back to life! Test it by holding the Vol Down button until your phone enters vibrate-only mode.
Hope that does it!

Thanks! I've been lurking and doing a LOT of reading and learning since last December (mainly in the development forum) But I think I'm ready to have a voice and use the knowledge I've acquired to help out my fellow flashaholics!
Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the thread! See you guys around and good luck with the vibration problem!

[Q] Think I brok't it.

Soo. I think I bricked my Epic 4g Touch. When going to turn it on, I get nothing but the blue LED. I automatically assumed this is bricked, and start researching on how to potentially fix it. I read USB Jig, and Jtag, etc etc.
Story: Was on MIJJz ICS Blend. Reverted to Stock EL29 W/ CWM via Odin. I haven't even flashed that many ROMs, aside from MIJJZ ICS Blend updates. Went to flash AOKP Build30, upon booting I get a yellow triangle. After letting AOKP settle for a few, I noticed I had no data. So I went to Restore from backup, (Which is what caused the issue I've noticed AFTER research). Now I have nothing but a blue LED.
Question is: Will the USB Jig work for this type of brick? I've read sometimes it will, sometimes it wont.
Or will I have to send it off for a JTag. Any help is highly appreciated.
_EDIT_ No, I can not get into download mode, or recovery. My screen shows no activity.
From what I have read you are bricked. I would take it to a sprint store with a repair center and play stupid. Just say you were talking on the phone, it got really hot so you pulled the battery and when you tried to turn it back on this is what happened. Something along those lines. Make sure you take it to a sprint with a repair center or they will want to send it to Samsung which will probably take at least a week.

Honestly if you can't do either its a no brainer unfortunately but question did you go into recovery and try and restore data or from an app?
Edit: Dont take this the wrong way but at this point with the million threads out there about this your choices are quite clear and with a search you they are also all defined for you but I will help as best I can
1. Go to Sprint(repair shop) play stupid.. Oh I took the OTA and I got this or I woke up restarted my phone and I only have a blue light... - I hear those are a couple of the good ones
2. Try Jtag service but from what I hear it has not worked for anyone... Research this or contact them yourself they are on xda
3. Get another phone through Ins, Ebay or Craigslist
4. Send phone back to Samsung as some have done for repairs
All these answers were found in this lovely place we call xda and done by just casually reading a few threads to keep myself informed on my $500 equipment.
Good luck man...

Well then I would wait it out by taking the battery out of your phone and waiting for a while then plug it back in and try again. Honestly it should not get the blue light just by doing that. Also ask on here if anybody in your area but have a USB jig to see if you can be jump started into download mode. Your case sounds different if you say you only restored data from an app(right)?
Does your pc respond when you plug it in
No, PC Doesn't recognize it. And I was doing a complete restore from backup
If you are on windows, go to mellowdev.net and download Mango Tools. You may push roms / files directly to your device and perform many other adb commands all via a nice interface. If for some reason this does not work please contact me and I will be glad to help more. (This will work on any android device.)

Sorry for the crazy questions but did you use GB recovery or ICS. Did you odin a recovery before restoring or did you try and restore straight from AOKP Build30 recovery. If you tried to restore from AOKP recovery thats where it all went bad for you

Does a USB Jig hold any hope? Oh nah your last answer solidified it for me.... It's a wrap! Call up Samsung and give them a song and dance. It may be your only hope at this point. Unless some new stuff is happening or the guy that posted a link above has a process that will work
Pft, that URL doesn't show anything, nor does google.
Well..... Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it, and I suppose I'll be moving on to a new section of the forum, as always. lol. Thanks again.
Restoring from ICS is a no no =( sorry broski
Ya, thats what I figured as soon as it happened. I just wanted to double check with the fine members of XDA. I'm over it. On to the next device. I'm gonna try and hold out for the SGS3. If I can wait that long. I didn't pay much for the Epic 4G Touch anyway, and I'm not under contract, so it is what it is..
Thanks though, everyone that helped or considered helping, lol.

Jtag did work for me when I had the blue led of death. The problems Jtag has with are the ones not recognizing the emmc. Email them and describe what happened. They're good at letting you know beforehand if it can be saved.

Yeah man, it's a help forum tho, no need to be so condescending to people just trying to get specific answers.
Jtag is probably gonna be your best bet at this point, given you didn't fry the emmc. Which is a 50/50 chance on that one, mobile Odin is the best and easiest way to do anything recovery related from ICS especially the AOSP versions(cm9, codename, AOkP). Trust me $5 is definitely worth not killing a $500 device. I keep a copy of the apk and an el26+cwm tar on my SD card and on my PC incase I delete my SD card or need to format it. It takes about the same amount of time to mOdin the kernel+recovery as it does to boot into recovery, about 30secs to flash when it reboots either press and hold volume up or pull the battery and press volume up + power if u miss the volume on reboot. Then from that recovery you can do anything you need safely.

I took it to a repair shop, where I was told to send it to Samsung to do a heavy-duty root. The power button does need to be replaced because there is no spring when you push down on it. I have no idea if there's a root glitch. Has anyone sent their phone to Samsung? What happened? Are there alternatives?
Thank you!

It was amazing, I had the same problem but all i did was open up the back up undoing all the tiny screws and then took a can on compressed air and sprayed out the power button and its been working for more than a month now with the problem completely gone! try that first before sending to sammy.
Ok I am in the same boat. My device does not boot up, it will get to Samsung logo and restart half the time and the other half just vibrates every 2 seconds. I removed the battery while plugged in and it still vibrates. I took it apart and blew the power button with compressed air and nothing. Here is the funny thing if I bang the hell out of it, it almost boots up. Is there something that I can do less than sending it to Sammy ? If not I will sell it on craigslist for parts.

Same thing here. Only way to get it to power on is by hitting it, the harder the better it seems. After it turns on, touching the power button will make it go in to the restart loop 90% of the time. This sucks!
For me this started after I dropped my phone...with the case on and on carpet. I have also opened it up and sprayed with compressed air to no avail.

Hi Folks,
I had the same problem, the problem started when I dropped my fone on carpeted floor, here are symptoms
Fone restarts on its own, start the boot, inbetween the boot starts again, then, keeps vibrating every two seconds, you have to pull the battery out to stop it,
As soon as you put the battery back in, it restarts, again getting stuck, and then vibrating every two secods,
Here is what i did
- Cursed Samsung for making a sh***y phone - Didnt work
- Smacked my phone with whatever I could fine - Didnt work
- Opened all the screws up, took apart phone, pulled out the power button module (pcb), noticed power button was loose, put some glue into it, dried it, put it back, & ITS BEEN WORKING SINCE THEN ! It was a hardware fault, its not software !
Just my two cents, it worked in my case, I cannot guarantee if it will in your case too, try at your own risk !!

Same issue with SGH-M919. I was rooted and the rom I tried to use wouldn't work because the kernel caused some issues so I figured I would go back to stock. The device wouldn't go into recovery mode, so I flashed the stock rom via Odin. After the ROM loaded, the phone reset and I saw the Samsung screen then it rebooted and so on each time. It's not the power button as it works, has the spring feel to it and the phone would come one by itself if it was broken. So what can I do or am I in trouble?
Also, the phone will vibrate every 2 seconds

Sure, the power button will "work", but if it's constantly vibrating and rebooting, it's probably an issue with the power button. Do what it shows in the video I posted, and if you do it right it'll probably fix it. I gad to attempt it twice as it didn't fix it the first time, but it's been like 4 months and I haven't had an issue since.
Thank you but it was the kernel causing problems. Somehow, the new ROM messed up the partitions and subsequently required a full wipe including all data then I flashed the stock ROM back via Odin and it was fine. I rooted it again and flashed Bliss Pop 1.8 and I love that ROM. No issues at all. Thanks for the help. I'm slowly learning about ROMs and Linux etc.. I appreciate the help. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can learn more??? Where do I post to get past this 10 posts rule???

AT&T S3 keepsing turning ON and OFF every 20 Seconds

Hey Guys,
I have a S3 AT&T and it just keeps turning on and off by its self about every 20 seconds. I have looked around and many people have this issue and there are a few solution out there but all of those solutions need my phone to stay on for a while. I can't do a hard reset and I can't do any kind of flash because it stays on for such a short time. Also the phone does not have water damage.
Below are the steps I have tried so far.
-Tried a new battery but same issue
-Thought maybe the power button was stuck but it looks fine.
-Tried to do hard reset and flash but does not stay on long enough
Not sure what else to do. Its killing me that I cant figure out how to fix it!! THERE MUST BE A WAY!
Thanks everyone!

Yes it even in the download and recovery menu it does this.
I'm having this exact same problem. Even in download mode it'll reboot. In fact, even while rebooting it reboots. I was lucky in that it stayed in download mode long enough for me to ODIN back to stock, but it's still rebooting. Completely unusable because it never stays on long enough. Can anyone help?
Did it ever take a dive off the table or your hands?

Honestly, it seems to me as if the power button is stuck somehow. It doesn't look stuck to me, but the behaviour of the phone is like that. The constant rebooting, the way the screen turns on, and even how the power off menu randomly comes up by itself.

Mine has fallen before but nothing serious I'v dropped phones way worse then this. But I do think something is definitely loose. If I just leave the phone alone it doesn't power on or off. But as soon as I pick it up and move it, it powers on then in 20 seconds just goes off again.
Anyone have any idea what could be loose maybe?
Thanks

your best bet is too open up the phone and look at the connectors from the batter to the phone and make sure that those have a solid connection.
99% it is a power button failure. I as well as many others are suffering from this.
Try to avoid using the power button as much as possible. Use the home button to power on and find a softkey to turn your screen off. Easiest way is use quick toggles to turn off screen.

I can only imagine how bad that sucks right now. The key is not to panic and angry the guys in charge of the one place that can help you with this. My advice would be to search and read everything you can about the issue and what others have experienced. I guarantee you are not the only one this has happened to and someone will have posted a walkthrough on what worked for them. Try them all till it works. If you are still having issues, post details on what happened to get it to this point. The more info we have the better we can try to help. Turn this into an opportunity to learn.

If you are still having issues, post details on what happened to get it to this point. The more info we have the better we can try to help. Turn this into an opportunity to learn.

OP3 not vibrating

Hi all!,
I got my One Plus 3 last week and yesterday it completely stopped vibrating.
Its not vibrating when I receive calls, notifications, keyboard strokes etc etc
I have rebooted more than 5 times now..
Any ideas? I dont want to factory restore but it looks like the only option for now..
thanks
Dumb question - did you accidentally turn on the phisical mute button on the top left of the phone? Try putting it completley down. If there are no vibrations whatsoever afterwords, you might want to try installing a vibration tester app. If it still doesn't work, chances are the vibration motor is dead and you need to get your phone repaired. I mean factory resetting might be worth a try but I doubt it will make a difference.

I feel you man.. sucks sometimes. But when they shipped directly to you, I'm very certain they will take it back again..
Maybe someone else might have a fix before that, who knows..
