I'm currently running Cyanogenmod, but I listen to music at least a few hours a day, and its really draining my battery. Any suggestions for a good AOSP rom for battery life, outside of MIUI and Cyanogenmod? Thanks!
Try the new savaged Zen kernel..

do not use the 1.0.0 kernel or you will get nasty audio quality if volume is > 50%
SZ 0.2.1 is getting me a lot of battery life. there is salvage mod 1.1 as well
I haven't done a whole lot of kernel flashing before, SZ is compatible with Cyanogenmod I take it?
Are you looking for Rome or kernels?....cus Tom's I wouldn't know but the tiamat kernel in my sig for AOSP roms works really well...SBC and non-SBC available
Sent from my nightly EVO
I am getting REALLY good results with CM7 and Tiamat. I don't do a ton of music listening but I do put medium to heavy use on it and I am nowhere near having to charge it end of day.
Thanks guys, I'm gonna try out tiamat then!
Beast, I see you're using SBC, how about you blizzard? I'm a little concerned to try the SBC one.
If you're using pandora, slacker, or some other music streaming app your battery will suffer pretty much regardless of whatever kernel you're using.

SavagedZen is he best for ASOP in my experience, but anyone can have great battery life just by turning off data/WiFi, etc when you aren't using it.

I am on the nonsbc one, I usually disregard the warnings as I am fairly comfortable in flashing and such but when it states actual damage possible that's where I stop.
That's just me though, some people seem to have great success with it.
If you do a little research, the 8 reports of damage from sbc kernels came from the very early days of sbc development.
It's all I use and I haven't had a problem.
Maybe I'm just lucky

Yea don't get me wrong, I know they are probably safe to use or the devs wouldn't put them out as final builds. I just personally don't use them.
Visit HERE. Also, I've been using sbc since they first arrived on the seen. I've yet to have any problems so I suppose everyone is different.
I run this rom, http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-htc-...rom-gingerbread-evo-deck-rc6-real-stable.html
And this kernel, http://mirror.savaged-zen.com/
with great results.

Hey all,
I just flashed Sprint Lover's ROM and I was wondering what is the best Kernal for this Sense ROM? I really like the stock look, but I would love to improve some performance under the hood.
Any help would be great!
Thank you very much!!!

I always use Netarchy's kernel, but what may be good on one phone may also be bad on another phone. I suggest flashing different kernels and testing them out.

Go Here for his kernels. I use Netarchy Toastmod - 4.3-cfs-havs-more-sbc and so far it's worked amazing on the various ROMs I've used (including Sprint Lovers) but it's worked best for me on Myn's ROMs.

I think I'm gonna flash this kernel tomorrow, but maybe the nosbc so I don't fry my battery... Have you had any issues with the battery with the sbc? And do you use SetCpu with the kernel?

No, and no
Don't use SetCPU with a havs kernel. If you go with one of his nohavs kernels then by all means use SetCPU as you wish. Another thing, just from my personal experience (though it may be different for your phone) the CFS kernels work far better than the BFS kernels. There's a guide around here that explains the difference.
As far as SBC goes, I haven't had any issues yet. I've been using a battery monitor to watch what's going on with my battery and haven't seen anything wrong with it. Another thing I do, just as a small precaution, is not let the phone charge 6-8 hours over-night. I'll let it charge to 100% then let it sit for about 2-3 more hours and call it quits. Don't know if that really does anything, but it makes me feel better so eh.
I know the military (I'm in the Army) uses Lit-ion batteries and trickle charges them without having any of them blow up/fry, however they do lose their ability to hold a charge over time. The fact that they do it, and the only problem has been lifespan of the battery is what convinced me to try an SBC kernel. Just choose whichever you feel comfortable with. It's all preference really.

Netarchy Toastmod - 4.3-cfs-havs-more-sbc is the best from my personal experieince...good battery life and makes choppy roms run a lot more smoothly

I've been using that one with no-sbc and it's worked great with the conservative profile. HAVS just deals with what voltage the processor uses at any given time/frequency so you can indeed use setcpu with it. It's the kernels with the built in smartass governor or ROMs using other battery tweaking scripts that don't always work well with setcpu.
And trust me, the military does not trickle charge their li-ions and they only run them at 4.10 volts to extend their life (depending on battery, always less than volts than their commercial counterparts). This I know for certain.
Anyone have a link to the stock kernel
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Guys quick question, with the above mentioned kernel. What frequency does if use when you turn off the screen? I want if to use the lowest possible, does the kernel do it automatically or should I use something like the overlook widget?
Also, can someone please provide instructions how to update the kernel, I haven't looked at the link yet so If there's instructions there that fine.
Thanks
wifi errors
i just flashed to netarchy kernel to my evo. cfs, havs no sbc. when i try to connect to wifi it says error. i used kernal manager to flash the kernal. is there anything i can to do to get the wifi back or do i need to go back to the stock kernel. i am running sprint lovers ROM. any suggestions.
update. when i flashed manually everything worked fine. maybe the kernel manager program has an issue with wiping the cache. not really sure. just thought i should let everyone know.
I would use the stock #15 HTC Kernel but with SBC. Link is in sec post here..

I've been using netarchy 4.3.4 cfs more havs aggressive sbc with no problems. Amazing battery life and very responsive.
Netarchy's kernels are very stable,if you're up for it try a sbc kernel, great battery life.
sbc
i was just reluctant to try an sbc because of the horror stories i have heard about frying the battery. i guess when i feel lucky i will try it.
can someone tell me what sbc is in evo kernels?
I believe it is trickle charging. There could be more to it. It stops your battery from going from 100% to 90% right when you take it off the charger. I have been using it for months now. I like it.
Oh ok.... What is the current version?
Or should I say which one you recommend with sense rom
I really waffled away from SBC for a long time because there was some anecdotal evidence that it was bad for your battery. I started using an SBC kernel first with savaged-zen and now I use tiamat. I seem to have better results with tiamat but Im on cm7, not sense. I agree, I don't care what anyone says, I like the SBC kernel. My battery life is SICK now compared to before. I get 12 hours plus of medium to heavy use.
Does tiamat have true sbc now?

check out this GUIDE it can help you decide....
on picking one of the NET kernels
theres others but from what i see theyre the most widely used for sense.
i use 4.3.2 cfs sbc havs less- works. good battery try a few out, but remember to cycle a few full charges before making a judgement.
I just flashed CM7 RC4, and the battery life is aweful, and it seems that most kernes I try its hard to tell how good the battery life is, what have people had good experiences with on with Gingerbread kernels for Inc?
In general, I've had pretty good luck with chad's incredikernel (I'm on 3.18.2011). Invisiblek #34 wasn't bad, either.
tiamat ive been getting a day or 2, and it has fast charging. it did have a wakeing issue with the older versions but thats taken care of now
I'm using invisiblek and getting through the day no problem on the stock battery.

Another vote for chad's incredikernel here. It's served me well in MIUI.
I actually found that the stock kernel on CM7 works the best for me, we very light use I can easily blow through 2 days and then some. Otherwise most of the time I'm moderately using my phone during classes playing Angry Birds/other games, apps, wifi, and I'm still able to at least get 10 hours out of it.
I see devs promoting SBC kernels and quite a few users raving about their SBC kernels, but aren't they supposed to hurt your phone's battery big time? Are they just ignorant or how is that people are still using SBC kernels despite the known, proven facts of how harmful they are? Am I missing something?
Most people have no issues with SBC kernels. Most of the controversy that was brewed up by some people has passed, and they're pretty well accepted now. The main concern with SBC is that it can lessen the number of charges you get out of your battery. Given the price of new batteries, most users - myself included - choose the extra hours now over the possibility the battery will poop out later.
I get much better battery life on SBC, and it's worth it to me. If you're nervous about it, choose not to use them. Only a couple of phones were actually damaged, and that was when they first came out.
What do you suggest I use, as far as a good ROM/kernel setup? Or even just kernel?
I've been using an SBC kernel for about 4 months now with no ill side effects. I test my battery regularly on our machine at work just to make sure, still good.

Personally recommend CM7 with the Tiamat Kernel.

Nope, no lag. Both Sense and AOSP SBC kernels have performed well for me.

Nice, I just ask cuz most complain of the wake lag, or it stalls every now and then.

I didn't notice lag on the Sense rom/SBC kernel combo I played with recently, but it would stall more often than I remember with any other kernel I've used and the phone would automatically do a hot restart to get itself going again. I also noticed my phone would run much hotter than usual. It would often go over 100 F just sitting on the table while doing nothing.
Some people swear by SBC, though. I'll pass on it.
I'll be joining in a protest soon. Since having access to charge my Evo as often I usually do, I need to change ROM's I think.
I currently run MIUI 1.9.16 with Tiamat 4.0.6 SBC, no mods.
Can anyone suggest ROM's and Kernals that will grant me the best battery life as well as what mods and scripts I should run?
AOSP or Sense, doesn't matter with me.
Thank you for any advice that is given.
^_^
The best battery life I have gotten was from MikFroYo 4.4 with Netarchy-Toastmod-4.3.4
Edit: The easiest way to extend battery life, is to turn off all radios not in use (GPS/4G/Mobile Networks/Bluetooth), and turn your brightness down as far as you can.
in my opinion it seems that froyo (2.2) roms get better battery life, also running SBC is always better.. and the things said above obviously

I already do what you mentioned in the bottom part. I'll look into MikFroYo later today. Thanks. It'll take time getting used to Sense, I've been on MIUI since May, two months after I rooted.

Right now, slightly below average with the Data and everything on. I've been to busy to calibrate it and do the steps to increase battery life. Organizing a protest, funding, taking care of the house, following news articles (not a fast reader and I need glasses), etc... T_T
I need to do the whole calibration ting tomorrow morning. Mine's been a real slug with battery life lately.

I'm currently using Swagged Out rom, With Lithids Freedom Aggressive kernel which is undervolted by -175, and V6 SuperCharger script! Its an amazingly smooth stock rom. Kernel wise its the best battery life I've ever gotten on my EVO. And as to V6 SuperCharger I've used it on every Rom I've flashed its awesome. Their are links to eveything in my signature.
I'm a flash-a-holic so i wouldn't really know wat the best combo is but i just flashed the new snowy Rom so going to give it a couple days with the aggressive freedom 9 kernel (128/768 interactivex) and see how it goes...
