[Q] Black Screen only during boot after display repair - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Edit: After 5 month passes I have hope that somebody came across this
problem as well in the meantime. It's quite annyoing not to see the screen
during boot and recovery since I'm flashing roms quite often.
Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Edit:
It seems I'm the only one having that kind of problem. :-(
Hi Everybody,
somthing very strange happend to me. I hope you can help me. After I broke
my AMOLED Screen, I replaced it with a new one. (Yes I ensured, that it is
an AMOLED and NOT a SLCD). After reassembling, everything seemed to work
fine. The Desire boots first with green HTC splash screen and then with my
monster boot animation from InsertCOIN. But then, after second reboot the screen remains black.
I could feel the vibration, so the phone seemed to start but no splash screen and no boot animation.
When the boot is finished, I can activate the screen by double pressing the power button.
After that, phone works ok without any flaws. However, when I reboot, same procedure again.
The screen remains black until the boot is finished. OK, phone is working but it is annoying that I can't
go into HBOOT or Recovery mode. Actually I found a work around by using Androidscreencast to go into
recovery and flash roms, but I'd like to do it from the phone direct without casting the screen to my PC.
After some investigation I found an issue with probably wrong display driver, but that's purely related to SLCD Desire.
Anyway I tried to flash the latest RUU and rerooted in order to see if it makes any difference. But no change.
I even tried to replug the display connector to the main PCB in the phone. Nothing helps.
Now I hope the community has an idea.
By the way I had Bootloader 0.75 before reflashing RUU. Now it is 0.93. I'm currently running InsertCOIN 2.0 with A2SD.
Thank you in advance for any useful hint beyond what I tried so far.
Cheers

Please help, boot loader mode not appearing!

Hi all,
I am running the meschle Artemis Touch ROM 4.1 and I am trying to change to an ealier version of meschle ROM (When I upgraded to that ROM I ran from step1 and my device has always been Super CID). I tried both directly from step2 or step1 but neither worked. When it gets to the boot loader mode (where there should be tri colors) it is displaying white blank screen.
This happens even if I hold down the voice button and press reset via stylus which suppose to go into boot loader mode. So now I cannot change to other ROM without the tri colors boot loader!! I am kind of stuck now. Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem, by reinstalling thing or something like that?
Any suggestion will be really appreciated!
Problem resolved!!!!
I have just managed to resolve the boot loader problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I turned it off, took the battery out, took the SDHC card out and put the battery back, power it back on and the boot loader works!!!!!!!!!! So something in that process has resolved the problem.
Thanks anyway.
Thank you very much. I had the same problem. Now im good
many thanks for your advice
oh man , i have spent 3 full days searching a solution for the white screen during upgrading & finally i find it because of SDHC card , now i can upgrade whatever i want
Thanksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Attempted to Flash: Phone blinks on the htc quietly brilliant screen

Attempted to Flash: Phone blinks on the htc quietly brilliant screen
I used unrevoked and Cyanogen 7.0 rc not a daily build.
I very carefully followed all the instructions posted and after flashing the rom i ended up with a phone that boots then flashes the HTC quietly brilliant screen over and over at me.
I can still access Hboot but i've been unable to progress from there. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
I used to flash custom roms all the time for windows mobile but this is my first time bothering to for android. I can't really see what's gone wrong here yet and the thread with similar issues to mine are vague with little helpful info.
Oh, I do have a nandroid back up safely saved on my computer. I'm reading up on what to do with that.
Edit:
Well... Looks like things worked out. While reading i just left the phone on the flashing Quietly brilliant screen and eventually the phone booted up.
I took the opportunity to reflash clockworkmod. Looks like things are going to be ok now but the whole experience has me a bit gun shy until i have more information.
From what I read i was stuck in a boot-loop but I have another theory too. Is the flashing HTC screen "normal" during an install since customs roms may lack their own flash screens?
Clarification would be nice.
Almost all ROM's have splash screens and boot animations included (I don't know any that don't).
CM7 definitely does, they actually have a pretty sweet boot animation. If you're not seeing that then I would suspect that your flash didn't go 100% right, maybe you didn't fully root and turn S-OFF.
The HTC quietly brilliant usually only popped up on the stock ROM whenever I did something dumb (like uninstall a major piece of the UI) that would prevent the launcher to load.
That does not come up as a default splash screen or boot animation, so a bit weird that it showed up for you.
If everything is all worked out now then that's good to hear.
The more I read the more I think I managed to install Cyanogen as my recovery or at least attempted to. I think i'm very lucky to have not bricked my phone. None of the tutorials out there clearly go over the difference between a recovery install and a rom install. If there is indeed a difference.
Yes there is a massive difference.
Recovery is basically the backbone. You use this to manage your phone so you can flash new ROM's, Kernels, make backups, restore backups, clear out different cache's, SD card, etc.
How did you root your phone?
If you used unrevoked then you should have the clockwork recovery already installed (boot with holding volume up button).
Yep, i dodged a bullet. All ended well though. Cyanogen 7 rc is installed safely with clockwork recovery onboard to save my ass if i screw up again.
Good to hear

[Q] Splash screen stuck after lcd replacement

So Today I changed my gfs lcd and the digitizer. Installed it fine, I make sure all the ribbons are properly connected and close up the phone. The phone turns on and shows the splash screen, seems like it's booting. I decide to use the latest RUU and see if that helps. A few reboots later i on the newest hboot, thing is it keeps happening, except now i can hear it boot (sprint boot anim). I battery pull a few times and I get it to boot. Touch screen works fine and all, tick Development and keep awake (because once it slept it wouldnt turn on again), mind you adb works while the splash is displayed and after the boot anim, adb also works when the screen is turned off and it wont wake up.
I just want a second opinion on if i should get another lcd screen. The one I installed didnt have the best reviews.
Thanks.
ps: i dont post alot because i know how to search, but i havent found anything on this exact issue.
Im slightly confused... so does it boot? or not? I am trying to make sense of what you wrote...
Try clearing the storage in hboot something may have corrupted during the process...
well it does boot you can hear the sprint boot animation, and i can also adb into it. getting into the bootloader works fine, booting into recovery or regular booting is the problem. Just displays the splash screen, but as I said I think it does boot into recovery/system because I have adb access.
edit: i just turned it on and it booted, but once put it to sleep the screen wont turn back on.
If it's not getting pay the splash something is stalling it... Did you try to run a logcat from adb? Do that and look for errors.

Help! Phone loads boot instead of ROM, and get frozen!

I've recently sold my rooted HTC Desire with MIUI installed.
However the buyer contacted me today saying the phone is not working.
It was working fine when I sold it to him, but now has the following problems:
- It normally loads the boot screen instead of the ROM.
- In the boot screen everything is frozen ( I know you need to wait 10 sec). It takes a few minutes until it actually registers that you pressed something.
- If you actually do get to go to the recovery screen, it is very buggy - it mostly doesn't respond to pressing the optical button, and sometimes it selects something without you pressing anything.
- If you do get to load the ROM (I've managed to install GingerBurst Sense 2.1 ROM. So I've tried this with this and MIUI), it loads in safe mode, and whenever you lock the screen and try to open it again, the phone resets to the boot screen, which again is frozen...
I've managed to wipe the phone and install the gingerbread rom mentioned above, but the problems still persist.
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with my phone all of the sudden, and how it can be fixed?
Could it finally have died and there's nothing else I can do?
If it helps, the phone is a HTC Desire Bravo S-ON with ClockWorkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7

It all looks like it was dropped or moisture got inside of it. I would try with 2.3 ruu, to get it back to fully stock on all partitions and try it there. If problem continues it's a hardware failure, and if everything works great, then Revolutionary (s-off and root) and a choice of custom rom. However I would stick to stock for selling, unless the buyer requests different.

You are quite right, I have dropped it hard and got it wet several times, so it probably is indeed a hardware fault.
I'll try your suggestions, but it seems to me like I will probably have to refund the buyer.
Thanks for your help.
Liran
Try with disassembling and cleaning of all connectors.
I've just refunded the buyer.
Thank you both for your help

Loooong boot times

Hi XDA peeps. So I recently ran into something that's not affecting me directly but still bugs the $#!+ out of me. I had the Android revolution ROM for a few months and decided to finally give GPE edition a try. So I installed it and played with it for a while, didnt like it as much and decided to go back to a sense based ROM. However, in the process, I accidentally selected "CHECK SMARTSD" in the bootloader, and the phone rebooted itself. It was OK since the ROM was already installed but what took me by surprise was how long the phone sat at the white HTC screen. It just sat there for at least 5 minutes without even going to a splash screen from the ROM, then all of the sudden, screen turns off. I figured it was just rebooting again but it actually loaded the rom and when I pressed the volume down and power button, an unlock screen came on. Its working just fine, I havent had any bugs or anything like that with the ROM, however when I have to reboot to apply certain changes, it does the same thing, takes foreeeeeeever in that htc screen and i dont get a fancy splash screen. This happens with ALL the roms that I've tried. I've tried hard resetting and nothing works. Anyone with an idea of what this could be? or a fix?
Thanks broskis.
Edit: Forgot to mention, fully rooted, S-off. with TWRP version 2.7.0.2
I was curious about that 'check smartsd' too. Searched for a while and found no info on it. Hope someone can chime in with some info.
