Kernel + Rom advice please - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have settled on CM nightlies for the Rom, after discovering my bloody battery was the cause of random reboots, they have been incredibly (pardon the pun) stable.
That being said I am more than happy with the speed of the Incredible, and would like to focus on wireless reliability (anyone else who uses Wifi and BT simultaniously, with a tether thrown in now and then should know what I mean). Of course I want good battery life, so a minor undervolt would be nice, and more than two touch points would be a huge bonus (I long emu's).
Anyhow I am currently looking at Tiamat. It has everything but the built in undervolt. On the DX I used droid overclock app to undervolt, but on the incredible it does nto seem to be as simple?
What I would really like to know is if those with experience think this would be a good setup considering my needs, and maybe some undervolt advice.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Best Kernel for stock Sense rooted.

I have rooted my INC, removed all the Bloatware etc, all I would like to do now is change kernel for a little better battery life. Would like a Kernel to either set profiles (setCPU) or one that is set up for better battery with no adjustments.
Running stock sense, rooted.
Thanks
There aren't many Sense kernel's that are still updated much, AFAIK, but when I ran a sense rom I stuck with "HeyItsLou Custom Sense Kernel"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859337
But once again, its all your preference, how YOU feel that the phone runs with whatever kernel you choose. Try that, look for others try them, and then you can see which one runs best. Everyone on here has their own choice for "best" kernel, now its time to make your decision too
IME Lou's #8 seems to do the best when phone is idle a lot, but under heavy use battery was no better or maybe worse than stock for me.
incredikernel by chad was best for me all around, even overclocked a little. Trying ziggys right now, Hella fast and stable so far, battery seems mediocre...nandroid and try them all! I never had issues with hydra either but they seemed to have fallen out of favor.

I've read that people are getting better battery results by getting the SetCPU app and loading in a custom profile. The thread on what I'm talking about is around here somewhere, fairly recent topic. Kernels, from what I read, differ more by people's own experiance than real noticable differences. Perhaps just get some better battery management like with SetCPU, run a dimmer screen, turn off 3g when you're not using it...ya know, the same scenario that windows mobile guys go through. Also go out and buy a car charger, get a cheap wall charger for at work, etc. Its practically a portable laptop. ...sorry I'm getting a bit off topic....I hear incredikernel is a good one.
I thought setcpu does not work on stock kerenl? Is this incorrect thought you need perflock access? I have extended battery and have set my phone for battery saving, just thought be nice to set a few profiles in setcpu.

Help with FPS and scrolling laginess, TIPS?

Hello all. I wanted to see if tips could be posted on how to increase scrolling laginess and increase fps in things like video and games. I bought my wife the shift and Ive noticed its alot better at mobile gaiming and video playback/recording.
Ive rooted and installed myns warm two point two along with netarchy-toastmod 4.3.4 cfs havs more nosbc.
Ive overclocked to 1.2ghz using setcpu and left the governor on smartass. (no profiles)
These seem to have made a visual improvement, but I want/need more.
So my questionis are...
Is there specific kernels that will help get the results Im looking for? (Im more insterested in performace, but would like batterly life is possible)
Are there any hidden tips that can be done via command line etc that will change things to allow for a better fps performance?
ANy help, links, etc will be appreciated. Ive been searching for weeks already just to get myself rooted/romed/kerneled.
The Shift has a better processor and a better GPU. I don't think you're going to be able to match it by overclocking. There are ROMs that tend to be a little smoother than others (MikFroyo 4.6 is nice), but there's only so much that can be done with the hardware. The Evo itself is almost a year old, and the QSD8650 SoC it uses has been available since Q4 2008.

As bkrodgers said, the Shift has better hardware than the Evo. My roomate has one, and that thing really is smooth, even on the stock rom. It nailed like 1400 or something like that on quadrant, not even overclocked on a stock rom. The only changes I ever make to my phone that affects the scrolling is the kernel. My phone doesn't like havs, the voltage scaling makes it unstable, and it lags severely, on any havs kernel. I get the smoothest experience out of my device from a kernel that has no havs and isn't undervolted. Of course, you get bettery battery life out of a kernel with havs, if your phone can tolerate it. Every phone acts differently on different kernels, which is why there are so many to choose from. So you can find the one that's 'just right' on your device. It takes a little playing around and kernel swapping to find the right combo. And as far as I know, basically all the kernels that have been available for a good number of months now, have the fps fix already baked in. When the Evo's first came out, FPS was capped at 30fps. Since then, all the custom kernels allow for it to go much higher than that, sometimes up to 60fps. I don't believe there's much more you can do with that.
Also, for what it's worth, you might want to try out an AOSP rom. They have much less crap in them, and they tend to run very very smooth (in my experiences). Not to talk down on any sense rom, as I also love sense, and 99% of the time and more than happy on whatever sense rom I happen to be running at the time. Fortunately, the Evo has quite a few selections on roms and kernels, so there is quite a bit of playing around and tweaking you can do, in search of the perfect setup.
thanks I'll probably try miks rom to see how that goes.
I understand about the hardware and that the shift has a better cpu, but is there anything else other than what I have already done to make everything nice and speedy UI wise? I think the biggest culprit is the app drawer being clunky. (like this on the shift as well) No settings in linux that can help there?
Oh and kernels. Ive tried 2 of netarchy-toastmods kernels and havent really noticed a difference. Both have had havs. Should I stay away from these type of kernels to get better visual performance?
ANy other tips on which kernels youve tried and noticed better ui results?
ah yes the elections are great. lol I guess I'll have to try a non havs kernel to see how they perform along with the senseless roms.
Thanks all

You're welcome. Just bear in mind, that if you do try out an AOSP rom, that they have different kernels to use. You must use a kernel that was made for AOSP on an AOSP rom. So don't go trying a netarchy kernel on an AOSP rom
Also, I didn't have as good a luck with net's 4.3.4 kernel's as I did on the 4.2.2 or 4.3.2. Also the 4.1.9 kernel's worked great for me. For some reason, the newest one's don't give me the best performance.
As far as tweaking things using ADB, I don't think there's anything you can do FPS related. I believe there are ways to adjust the undervolting in a kernel, using adb, and things like that. But as far as I know, the FPS is what it is at this point, although it will vary from kernel to kernel.

[Q] Whats a good kernal for batt life and charge rate.

I would like to find a good overclockable kernal and am not really having luck finding much info about them. I see SVC and all that stuff but i dont know what all that means. I am running the newest version of IncRom and love it besides it having a stock kernal. I use alot of wifi teather and am on my phone alot so i need something thats going to be a strong signal for the wifi and i need one that charges fast and has acceptable battery life. I know i cant have everything all in one but i have flashed like 6 different roms and notice the kernals do matter for example the OMFGB 1.1.1 rom the battery dies so fast i can watch it drain but takes 5 hrs to charge back up. I have no use for something like that u know. But on the flip side it has an overclockable kernal!!! So could someone guide me in the right direction or at least break down what kind of kernal im looking for??? I really would like this info thank u.
I have CM7 on my phone but replaced the CM7 kernel with the latest version of incredikernel. It has been good so far and I have great battery life. I can set the governor to overclock my CPU up to 1113 MHz and I have verified the increase in speed is giving more performance through a couple of benchmark apps. I am also able to do either wifi or USB tethering without any issues as the CM7 rom has native support for both of them. You may want to try flashing your baseband radio as the different versions will offer different performance. I am using 2,15,00.11.19 right now and it is working well for me.
incredikernel AOSP is excellent for both battery life and overclocking. I can't speak for the Sense ROM, but I'm sure it's just as nice. I can say that the AOSP roms charge QUICK, and with the smartass governer, you can oc and uc and have great battery life.
I'm running chad's incredikernel right now on SkyRaider 4.0 and I love it. The smartass governor is great for battery life and it charges really fast. It's the only kernel I'd run on a sense ROM

[Q] Aosp Kernel usage

I have come from the ERIS and as far as kernels go the Incredible has a lot more to offer. This leaves me confused as to which would be the best. I currently and running latest nightly of cm7(smooth) and 2.6.38.6-Tiamat v4.03 with chad0989's voltage tweak download. Nothing to complain about really but with all the undervolting and voltage tweaking and updated drivers etc i get kinda lost in the mix.
My question is what do most of you prefer for a kernel setup that provides you with the most stable experience for the way you use your phone?
If this helps I like my phone to be responsive - and if batt life suffers a bit then thats not a big of a deal. I use my phone to stream googles beta music cloud thing, watch some netfilx, play some angry birds, make some calls and a few texts. Nothing overwhelming.
Thanks for all your help!
For cm7 my favorite is Chad's kernel, overclocked to 1.113 with smartass governor. He's working on a new governor called ingenious and when that comes out, it's going to be excellent.
I have always had good battery life and performance with this setup. Hope this helps!
