[Q] Whats a good kernal for batt life and charge rate. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to find a good overclockable kernal and am not really having luck finding much info about them. I see SVC and all that stuff but i dont know what all that means. I am running the newest version of IncRom and love it besides it having a stock kernal. I use alot of wifi teather and am on my phone alot so i need something thats going to be a strong signal for the wifi and i need one that charges fast and has acceptable battery life. I know i cant have everything all in one but i have flashed like 6 different roms and notice the kernals do matter for example the OMFGB 1.1.1 rom the battery dies so fast i can watch it drain but takes 5 hrs to charge back up. I have no use for something like that u know. But on the flip side it has an overclockable kernal!!! So could someone guide me in the right direction or at least break down what kind of kernal im looking for??? I really would like this info thank u.

I have CM7 on my phone but replaced the CM7 kernel with the latest version of incredikernel. It has been good so far and I have great battery life. I can set the governor to overclock my CPU up to 1113 MHz and I have verified the increase in speed is giving more performance through a couple of benchmark apps. I am also able to do either wifi or USB tethering without any issues as the CM7 rom has native support for both of them. You may want to try flashing your baseband radio as the different versions will offer different performance. I am using 2,15,00.11.19 right now and it is working well for me.

incredikernel AOSP is excellent for both battery life and overclocking. I can't speak for the Sense ROM, but I'm sure it's just as nice. I can say that the AOSP roms charge QUICK, and with the smartass governer, you can oc and uc and have great battery life.

I'm running chad's incredikernel right now on SkyRaider 4.0 and I love it. The smartass governor is great for battery life and it charges really fast. It's the only kernel I'd run on a sense ROM

new sprint kernal vs cm6 on batt life

i have been running flipz newer rom with the new unreleased kernal and my battery life is AMAZING, I mean very very good. I was thinking about giving CM6 a try again with flashing the new v7.6 kernal thats supposed to be really good.
But I was wondering what people are getting with cm6 and the kernals as far as batt life.
Ive never personally flashed a kernal before so not sure on how well or how much they affect the phone or if its worth it.
any help? like as far as the best kernal for a CM6 rom and and reports on batt life comapred to the new leaked kernal
I'm getting better battery life on stock now, then I was on any other modded kernel (kings, cm6, and some others.)
Nand backup and give it a shot. It seems way to better to me than stock or even cm6 nightly with newest kernel.
also whats the difference between bfs and cfs roms?
i feel batt life with CM6nightly + snap7.6 in turbo mode is about how the phone was when it was first released...you can make it a day with light use, but using it a ton, i seem to get around 8-10 hours.
However...getting 2600+ in Quadrant and no lag, anywhere, ever...makes up for it. I'm always within reach of a USB port or wall outlet so i just carry the charger/cord around with me.
I haven't actually ran it from full to dead outside of work. However at work i constantly drop signal and regain it repeatedly for the 8~ hours i'm here.

[Q] Battery Life and Kernel question

I'm currently running Fresh Rom (newest) with the stock kernel that it comes with. My battery life is not near as good as it was before I rooted.
Question is.....I'm running setCPU currently and have been thinking about flashing to Netarchy to see if my battery life increases. Does anyone have experience with this combination's battery life compared to running stock with setCPU? I'm not sure setCPU will work with the Netarchy kernel or not. Also, is Netarchy compatible with wireless tether and 4G?
Thanks.
I run stock with SetCPU and love it.
if the kernal you are using uses HAVS, SetCPU will be no good for you.
goodandevo.com has some nice tips for saving some juice also...
20-tips-to-improve-htc-evo-4g-battery-life
that's pretty much all i can help you with... sorry.
I had no luck with batt life on Fresh 3.3...I ran all of Kingz kernels and then NA's...no luck. If you want good batt life I suggest a new rom...Myn
Good to know...I had TwoPointTwo on with Kings #11 not long ago but took off because I like the interface on Fresh a lot more. Something tells me Sprint TV app was disabled on this by default as well.
Are you running Myns currently? Which kernel did you like the best with it for battery life?
@SpaceMonky.....
I believe the kernel that comes with Fresh does not use HAVS...so SetCPU should be working fine.
Also, I have done all the things listed on goodandevo.net as well as numerous other "tricks". Only one I have not tried is the Colin hack made for Evo by Myn. Still up in the air on whether this actually makes a difference.

Best rom for battery life

I just got my droid incredible and I rooted it as soon as I got it. I've tried almost every rom in the "official rom" thread. I can't seem to figure out which one is the best for battery life. Right now I'm on myns 5.2. Any insight would help.

I was using miui au 1.1.7 and had great battery life. Miui isn't for everyone though. I just installed the latest cm7 gb build so well see

It really depends on the kernel that is flashed with the ROM as well, in general ROM's that are AOSP tend to have better battery life because all the Sense stuff that syncs constantly can drain your battery, but alot of devs have found ways around this by getting rid of the extra Sense junk.
But IMO switching kernels gives the biggest difference
Happy Flashing
it trully is in the kernal and somewhat dependant on the rom.. like dude said.. warm is a badass rom.. i think i'm still using warm rls4, forget which kernal.. but find a decent one and use a cpu tool to setup profiles to control your kernals speed and usage.. with the right settings you can squeez some juice out...
lou's senseless rom with his #4 kernel is awesome
Skyraider 3.5 for sense or I'm having great battery life with cm7 w/ stock launcher (doubt it makes a difference on battery life but might)

Like others have said, it's mostly about what kernel you are using. Some kernels reduce the amount of voltage the CPU uses to save battery as well as underclocking it when its not in use to save even more battery. I've used Skyraider 3.5 with Incredikernel and it has given me the best battery life, and I've used quite a few different kernels.
If you choose an AOSP ROM (like cyanogenmod) try invisiblek's kernel.
Best battery life to date is my current setup, Senseless Redemptive Revolution with Lou's #6. I can get 24-26 hours with normal usage not watching what I do. Recently, I reinstalled Juice Defender, and as I have always been a skeptic of it, if it is set up correctly, I am seeing a very noticeable increase in battery with no real side effects. FYI.
For Me, it was Cyanogen 6.1 stable and invisbilek's #28 for the kernel, but play around with it and see what works best for you, now that you are rooted, you can add any rom and kernel that you want and find out what works best for you, rembember, everyone's phone and usage are different, what works for me may not be best for you.
Thread closed.
Reason: The reason we close what's referred to as "Best ROM Threads" is because the vast majority of the type end up a nasty flame fest. The reasons should be obvious. It's really a matter of opinion, and then you get the fanboys of certain devs chiming in, and well, you get it. You did nothing wrong (besides posting in the wrong sub-forum). My advice is try a few and make that choice yourself. It's easy to find the most popular ATM, because they stay on page 1 of the dev sub. That doesn't necessarily make it the best, however. Give some a shot and see what's best for you. Good luck.

[Q] Best Kernel for stock Sense rooted.

I have rooted my INC, removed all the Bloatware etc, all I would like to do now is change kernel for a little better battery life. Would like a Kernel to either set profiles (setCPU) or one that is set up for better battery with no adjustments.
Running stock sense, rooted.
Thanks
There aren't many Sense kernel's that are still updated much, AFAIK, but when I ran a sense rom I stuck with "HeyItsLou Custom Sense Kernel"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859337
But once again, its all your preference, how YOU feel that the phone runs with whatever kernel you choose. Try that, look for others try them, and then you can see which one runs best. Everyone on here has their own choice for "best" kernel, now its time to make your decision too
IME Lou's #8 seems to do the best when phone is idle a lot, but under heavy use battery was no better or maybe worse than stock for me.
incredikernel by chad was best for me all around, even overclocked a little. Trying ziggys right now, Hella fast and stable so far, battery seems mediocre...nandroid and try them all! I never had issues with hydra either but they seemed to have fallen out of favor.

I've read that people are getting better battery results by getting the SetCPU app and loading in a custom profile. The thread on what I'm talking about is around here somewhere, fairly recent topic. Kernels, from what I read, differ more by people's own experiance than real noticable differences. Perhaps just get some better battery management like with SetCPU, run a dimmer screen, turn off 3g when you're not using it...ya know, the same scenario that windows mobile guys go through. Also go out and buy a car charger, get a cheap wall charger for at work, etc. Its practically a portable laptop. ...sorry I'm getting a bit off topic....I hear incredikernel is a good one.
I thought setcpu does not work on stock kerenl? Is this incorrect thought you need perflock access? I have extended battery and have set my phone for battery saving, just thought be nice to set a few profiles in setcpu.

[Q] suggestions on kernel for speed and performance?

hey guys. i'm trying to find the kernel review thread with no luck.
I switched roms (i'm on MetroPCS so using the latest MetroDroid rom) and Im finding the kernel slow. I use setcpu profiles and I notice a slight delay in response that wasn't there before.
I also benchmarked using Quadrant and setcpu set to performance at 1190/1190 and got 1083! much lower than any score i've had in the past.
what's the newest and greatest sense kernel for improved speed and performance? I have the seidio battery and always near a charger, so i'm looking for snappy performance over squeezing 15 minutes more out of the battery.
thanks!
P.S. this is a Sense-rom but 90% de-Sensed. I just prefer the look and feel of Sense after I modify my way over others.
Ziggy's (ziggy471.com) always run faster than Netarchy's for me, but you're going to have to try a few for yourself as every phone reacts differently to diff kernels.
Netarchy's Kernels & Ziggy's Kernels
nets out with his 4.3.4 and has hdmwin built in also has the kernel guide in there.
