Ok so i place any PC36IMG.zip on the root of the SD Card and goto into bootloader mode and it never sees this file what is wrong tried to also change the splash screen and update RA and nothing what do i need to do
Did you rename the file to PC36IMG.zip.zip?
Make sure it's properly named. By default in Windows, file extensions are not shown, so the .zip is already there, you don't need to add it.
no i didn't i download it and placed it right on the root of the sd card and it only has one ext .zip

There are two requirements for the bootloader to recognize the PC36IMG. One, it has to be named correctly. Capitals do matter. It has to be PC36IMG. As the previous poster stated, if you add a .zip it becomes .zip.zip, so be sure when you are looking at the file in windows, that it's just PC36IMG, all capitals. The other requirement, is that it has to be on the main directory of your sd card, not in any folders. If both of those requirements are met, the bootloader should scan and find the PC36IMG, and ask you to update. I know you said you did all that already, but just double check the file's location, and how it's named. If everything checks out, and it still doesn't work, I would then suggest formatting your sd card to FAT32, using windows, and then copy over just the PC36IMG, and try again. (of course back up your SD card before you format it ) For some reason, many people have reported the bootloader not finding a PC36IMG, and that formatting the SD card fixed the issue. Hope that helps a bit.

Also, to add to that, if the android txt file isn't in there, it won't read either.

Its inside every PC36IMG, attached is one for amon_ra, but disregard it, extract it and look at the txt file. that file needs to be in the PC36IMG for it'll be detected. I recommend copying to your pc, incase you make a PC36IMG, like if you make a splash screen, ect.

I followed the instructions found in this thread:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7864966&postcount=4
And everything was working fine until i got to step #5.
Step 5: get recovery here hxxp://downloads.unrevoked.com/forev...od/PB31IMG.ZIP
put in sd card and hboot apply
(this will load clockworkmod recovery on your phone so that u can apply updates.)

I applied that file to the root of my sdcard (which is fat32). When i load up hboot, it quickly scrolls filenames all starting with PBxxxxx.zip. It follows by saying "no image or wrong image" etc..(sorry it scrolls so fast i cant even read it in time)
How can i reload clockworkrecovery?
Phone Stats:

i perfer amon ra....but thats beside the point......
make sure its PB31IMG.zip not. zip.zip or pb31img.zip.....also make sure there is an android info.txt file inside the zip.........and make sure the file is on te root of the sd, not in any folders

make sure to double check the SD card is fat32 and that it is spelled perfect. and like mentioned above to check to make sure it isn't PB31IMG.zip.zip even thought you may only see PB31IMG.zip, you may have to make it PB31IMG

Yeah its named "PB31IMG.zip" coming in at 2,928 kb.
Downloaded straight from Unrevoked....
Im sure its not being mislabeled, I have "show filenames" enabled by default...
This is annoying me...i was moving along just fine...can't figure out this issue!
***EDIT***
I tried it again, and it worked!
Small change, big results... Everytime I plug in my phone as HD, it pops up on my PC as Removable Drive F: and Removable Drive G:
I had been putting all files on Drive F:, and it always seemed to work. I just tried it on G: and it finally ran the update.
I'm unsure why the same SD card is coming up as F: and G:, and why Drive F: worked for everything, but Drive G: was needed for Clockwork
I can't tell for sure which is which, but the reason you are getting two different removable drives is because the Incredible comes with the 8GB internal memory. And you must have had the file on that instead of your SD card, the ONLY way to get it to work is to have it on the SD card.
but I'm happy to see you got it mate!
Hey guys and gals,
I need some help, I have s-off/root using unrevoked forever ... droid incredible 2.2 ... I have tried to load several different splash screens and when I go into HBOOT, it never gives me the option ... I have named the files PB31IMG.zip (have tried the one they offer with unrevoked and numerous others) and placed them in the root of my SD card ... by all accounts this should do the trick, but when I go into HBOOT it never says anything about loading a new splash ... nor does it ask me any questions, it scans for several files and always says "Image not found" and goes back to the main HBOOT menu .... any ideas?
Thanks in advance for the help!
Is your SD Card formatted in Fat32? you might want to move everything off your SD card to your PC then format the card thru the PC in Fat32 then move everything back to the card.

Thanks for your response
How would I know file system it's formatted to? It is the same card I used to do the unrevoked forever, would that require the FAT32 file system? How can I format the SDcard after clearing everything off of it?
Make sure it is .zip and not .zip.zip
Go to properties and check the details on the PB31IMG file, usually if there is no .zip, its already there. Adding the .zip just makes it doubled.

This was my problem ... thanks again ... got it working with your help!
I recently rooted my phone via unrevoked3 and unrevokedforever and tried to flash a custom splash screen as instructed by their website under the unrevokedforever info page (I would post the link, but as a new user I cannot :/ )
After placing the .zip on the root of my sd card and booting it in hboot, the phone proceeds to attempt to load the file but continues to say the following:
"Loading... [insert file name here]
No image!"
or
"Loading... [insert file name here]
No image or wrong image!"
I'm at a loss as to why this might continue to happen. I assume its not the location of the file, otherwise the bootloader probably wouldn't have recognized it. I'm simply confused as to why it won't recognize any images.
For further help, I've attatched the .zip I'm attempting to use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Try redownloading the zip and make sure it's named correctly
Edit: typo and thanked you on accident lol
Just gave it a try, and still no luck... really confused at this point. :/

Make sure your SD Card is formatted to FAT32
Ah, that's interesting! Looks like my sd card is coming up as MS-DOS (FAT16).
Now, I know that formatting it would delete all the files on the card, but if I copy them onto my computer, reformat the drive, and then put everything back exactly the way it was, would that have any effect on my phone whatsoever?
Nope I do it all the time. Just put the on the comp somewhere format then put them back... Just dont boot the phone in between... Then things may get wonky
Just formatted the sd card with no issues, time to see if it will actually let me use a new splash screen... will update once I run hboot.
[UPDATE: Great success! I guess the sd card simply had to be reformatted to put in a new splash screen. Thanks everyone!]
have downloaded image from xda, (got root), renamed to pb31img.zip, put on root of sd card, and rebooted into hboot. should be asking me to update, but does not..any suggestions?????

Hboot is funny like that there are two things that have to be right or it want see the file..... first you have to be formatted fat32 and second the zip has to be named exactly PB31IMG.ZIP..... MAKE sure you have those things correct... if you need to reformat then backup your SD on your computer first then reformat and then copy thing back to the SD

Four things, actually.
1) S-OFF.
2) SD card formatted to FAT32.
3) The zip must be named PB31IMG.zip... case is important, as is not accidentally naming the archive PB31IMG.zip.zip.
4) In addition to the splash1.img file, there needs to be an android-info.txt contained in the archive.
Based upon what the OP's stated, it would appear that, at the very least, the he's misnamed the PB31IMG.zip.

One more thing. This isn't just some image that's renamed right? I'm assuming this is any actual splash zip that is being renamed.

I have done the unrevoked forever splash, but I still have the HTC splash as well as the Unrevoked one. Is this as it should be? Or do I have something I missed? Just to be sure I didn't miss a step I went through and redid the install of the splash, but the same results, would it be a good idea to remove the new splash, and try again?
My boot sequence goes:
Unrevoked
HTC
Verizon
For me this is way too much and way too busy.
The unrevoked one is the SPLASH. The htc and verizon are probably the boot animation. A very, very old boot animation.

Hi XDA, I followed the Desire HD Rooting instructions, or should I say downgrade to root instructions by downloading the PD98IMG file and running some comands from ADB. When putting the PD98IMG file on the root of my SDCard, HBoot refuses to see it. I just get the usual no image or wrong image file in green writing. I have checked I have not named it .zip.zip twice, it's just refusing to work...
All help is appreciated, thanks.
Is your device still branded? Do you get "CID incorrect" message?
If not, you need to create a gold card before you can downgrade:
http://android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard/
jaaystott, that happened to me when i was rooting. the problem was my sdcard. it was a 2gb transcend card, so i took it out and used an 8gb card instead and then HBOOT read the .zip file.
i really doubt the size of the sdcard matters, but the sdcard itself, does...so try borrow someones sdcard instead, then try it again.
use the RUU 1.32.405.6 from here

-Click this RUU exe file, then the installation window pop up, DO NOT click next
-Search your computer for rom.zip
-Rename rom.zip to PD98IMG.zip
I had the exactly the same problem. I used a spare Samsung 2GB card, with no problems
I found that formatting the SD card in my laptop to FAT32,
- then use the Hex editor to create a Goldcard
- then placing the SDcard back into the phone, mount the phone as a removable disc,
- then copy the PD98img.zip file from your PC.
If there's any error when flashing the zip file a gold card wuld be needed.Just use the goldcard helper and it should be relativelly easy to deal with
