When I flash CM6/CM7 on my EVO, I am able to send emails to anyone in my Exchange/Active Sync directory. The contacts do not show up in my contacts app, but when I enter a name of a co-worker in the "TO" field in email, all associated names in the company directory show up. *which is expected*
However, when I go back to stock ROM (HTC Sense), and setup my Exchange/Active Sync stuff, co-workers in the company directory do not show up as they do when running an AOSP ROM. I made sure "sync contacts" is selected but nothing works.
Has anyone else experienced this, or know of a fix?
I am using the default email app with both ROMS, and setting up the email correctly.
I can send and receive email just fine. All of my work calendar items are visible, and do sync. It's just the contacts I am having trouble with.
Thanks.

I've had my phone with me for awhile now, and so far so good and I've been regularly syncing with Gmail.
A couple of days back, when I wanted to send an e-mail from my computer, the list of contact suggestions that would automatically pop out as you type your contact's name wouldn't come out.
I found this strange, so I checked my contact book (from inside gmail on the computer). To my horror, the contact(s) were gone!
I've also noticed weird folders in my gmail, most that begin with "[IMAP]/" followed by drafts, inbox, etc
I checked my android, under the people app, and the contact's phone number, along with their email was still listed in my phone.
I've been searching around, and I understand that some people are having this problem in reverse, whereby contacts are disappearing from their android. Not much help there, I suppose.
So my question is; is this an android sync problem, or is gmail getting iffy?
I've now taken a precaution and have exported a back up of my gmail contacts in csv. ... but.. you can never know when this will happen again.
Pardon me if I sound noob-ish. The android is my first smartphone
Edit: Today it happened again. I seem to be losing contacts everyday. Even now my gmail chat client on the left seems to be missing contacts.
the imap folders etc you can turn off in the gmail settings server side not mobile side
Thank you
Any idea about the missing contacts?
Yesterday I finally bought a Desire, after few days of Android test on my Kaiser device.
On Kaiser I succeeded to create an Exchange account for my company email and to sync emails, calendar and contacts.
On Desire I receive an error regarding the server settings. I installed Roadsync and Touchdown and for them everything is OK.
Could be a problem related to the company certificates?
How I can solve it?
Thanks!
I installed the stock Android 2.2 email app and now everything is OK in the email side.
But the calendar and contacts are still not sync.
What exactly are your settings, where and how did you configure these, which Exchange version do you use and what is the resulting problem / error message?
kata2008: in the server settings try to put the FQDN of your server or in otherwords the complete name and domain name of the server
example:
ex10.mydomain.com
Hello,
For server name I'm using the ip address.
HTC Email application create the errors. I installed the stock 2.2 email app and now is OK. I can sync the emails.
But now I have another problem: I can't sync contacts and calendar. I installed the stock 2.2 calendar application, but is no link to the stock email application.
As I see, I need to use the stock apps, not the HTC provided by Desire.
Do you now how I can install correctly stock 2.2 email, calendar and contacts apps?
good to hear that worked for you. i dont know if you could install the stock email for it is included with Sense.. As i know you need to use the RUU..
@kata2008
Please read this thread. Perhaps this is you problem too:

Finally, a step ahead.
I installed the 2.2 stock email app, I restarted the Desire and now I can sync emails and calendars.
I can sync contacts only from Exchange to Desire, but vice verse is not working.
If I want to add a contact in People, I can't choose the corporate account, only Gmail, SIM, Phone.
Do you now how I can fix this last step?
hello all
got a problem with my unrooted, unbranded desire on uk voda pay monthly sim.
basically everytime i go to sync my google contacts i get the message "sync is currently experiencing problem it will be back shortly" now what makes this strange is that my wife and son both have desires same as myself and theirs sync fine. mine used to sync so am not too sure whats wrong or what to do
From your phone, log into your Gmail account where the contacts are stored. Once logged in go to the main menu on the device and select the contacts icon. Under contacts select the menu/options icon to bring up a list of available options. Under this list you will see an option for accounts. Select accounts, this will bring up all of the active e-mail accounts set up on the phone. Under the list of e-mail accounts select the Gmail account. Once the account is selected turn on the sync contacts option.
Now that the account is synced with the phone all of the contacts will be transferred to the device.
In my experience the above advice doesn't work as the sync in the phone is already set up and enabled and the only solution is to delete ALL contacts from the phone (including face book contacts) and start a fresh sync.
I have a Verizon HTC Droid Incredible (unrooted) on which I've successfully configured my Exchange 2007 account. My email, contacts and calendar are all successfully syncing and I can send/receive email. When I attempt to lookup a contact in the GAL/company directory, after typing the contact's name and clicking on search, there's a quick blip on the screen and then nothing further happens and no results are returned. Why isn't my company directory working and how do I resolve the issue?
Hi, I'm a few days into using my HTC One X (first time Android user having just switched from WM6.5) and have found a problem with syncing with Exchange Activesync (Office 365). I'm set up to sync mail, contacts, calendar and tasks with EAS. The problem is with my contacts in the stock "People" app.
I notice for new EAS contacts that I create from the phone (i.e. from an incoming call or SMS), the contact is synced up to OWA and Outlook. But when I make a change to the contact item from OWA or Outlook, the changes do not sync back to the phone. However, if I make another change to the same contact from the phone, it will sync up. It's only syncing one way i.e. from the phone.
This does not happen to the other contacts that were originally downloaded to the phone from Exchange. Meaning, changes to these other contacts will sync both ways - from OWA/Outlook to the phone and vice versa.
Does anyone else have this problem? Better yet, a solution?
Thanks in advance.
ps. If it's any help, I've also downloaded Touchdown to my phone to test. But note that the contacts in Touchdown are not copied/linked to the native phonebook (People app).
Hi UKC1,
What happens when you add a new contact from the Exchange end? Does it sync to your phone, if so do edits to that contact on the phone sync back?
I have Exchange so I will test this for you now, but on the surface it would sound like the contacts that you have added from receiving a call or an SMS are going to a different address book behind the scenes, one that is outside of the Exchange sync scope.
EDIT: I note that when I enter the 'People' app on my phone, and manually add a new contact, I am able to choose from four address books (SIM, Phone, Exchange, Google).
Whilst I haven't tested any further just yet, it could be the issue I mentioned above that you are not creating the contact on the phone inside the 'Exchange' address book, and therefore it will not sync with Exchange.
I was able to reproduce your issue. Create contact on phone in default address book (which is Exchange), contact syncs to Exchange OK. Make change on phone, change updated Exchange OK. Make change in Outlook, contact did not get updated = FAIL. I waited quite a while too (all other changes were instant).
........
However, maybe I have some good news for you, the contact DID get updated after I rebooted the phone.
Can you please confirm that works for you?
Yes, you have reproduced my exact problem. And I tested it again today - same thing. I guess I'm not the only one with this problem then. I elevated it to HTC but there's no response yet.
Anyway, so I rebooted as you suggested but no it didn't work - the outlook/exchange-amended changes DID NOT sync back to my phone. Only when I removed the EAS account and re-setup the account did everything sync. Then I tested it again by creating more contacts from the phone.
Funny thing is that now some of phone-created contacts are syncing both ways now. But others are still not.
I can keep testing but my actual EAS account has 3000+ contacts. There's no way I can keep track what is synced.
This people app is just looking unreliable. Any other ideas?
Nothing that I know of with EAS support. Could be because you have a large number of contacts. If I was to suggest anything it would be split them up into groups. Then again with 3000 contacts I would assume you have already done that! Perhaps try an AOSP ROM such as Trips CM9 and try the default ICS experience to see if you have the same issue. Could be the People app, could be the EAS support within ICS itself. Would be interested in your findings.
