Im on a stock rom and I can USB mount my Evo?
I have tried two different cables
three different computers (one including a mac)
and on mt Tablet.
It just wont work.
I have also tried all with usb debugging on and off.
You may need to install the drivers first... HTC Drivers .
I have tried that and I was able to do it successfully a few days ago.
It could very well be a bad usb port, that happens very frequently.
Ok... So my Epic 4G is pretty out of date... Running 2.3.6, GINGERBREAD.EL30 stock rooted.
I'd like to update it to newest stock (and wipe the phone)
So I downloaded the SPH-D700-FC09-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 file
Install the drivers... run ODIN... do download mode... Nothing on Windows 7 pc #1. Tried 3 different cables.
Next went to windows 7 PC #2... Still no dice
Windows 7 PC #3... nothing
So then I thought... Hmmm maybe Heimdall will help me out.
I uninstalled all drivers and Samsung crap from all 3 computers... Zadig detects nothing on any of the computers... If I force list all devices it actually shows an unknown USB device on one of the three...
So then I though... Maybe I should install Linux... that doesn't need drivers right?
Install Ubuntu... install Heimdall... Boot into download mode... STILL NOTHING! "Failed to detect compatible device!"
Wow...
So anyways...
What gives?
I do have ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.6 installed... Maybe that could help?
You could just flash fc09 deodexed/rooted and upgrade both CWM and the modem.

Would this one work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580931
Would I have to flash the BML or MTD version?

That's the rom. Since you're having so much difficulty getting Odin to work, I'd say stay on BML.

The stock Samsung cable from my wife's S3. (with the weird plug shapes)
A generic white cable that I've used to flash my S2 twice.
And the old stock Samsung cable from my Samsung moment. (Flashed my moment many many times with it)

Samsung cables are known to be crap... especially for this phone... I have used the cable that came with my epic for an s2 and an s3 on Odin, but it wont work with the epic... get a good data cable like a blackberry cable...

Well for some reason CWM got stuck auto-converting all my partitions to ext4 (I have no idea why it did that...)
So I tried installing sleeperRom (for the ext4 support) but it just sits at the samsung logo doing nothing now...
Guess I'll have to try and find a compatible cable... Or a PC running Windows XP / Vista.
Found an LG cable... no worky either windows / linux / odin / heimdall
(The white cable immediately detected my S2 in download mode via Heimdall...)
Interesting... I cannot mount the sdcard from CWM.
E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
Also, now CWM is saying my mount points might be RFS again...
I also get errors mounting cache and system in CWM... no explaination though.
1.) I'd highly suggest getting a cable from the link I provided. They ship very fast and the prices are dirt cheap, but quality is all there. (Don't let price dictate the image of quality in your head.)
2.) Use the USB ports on the back of your PC since they are attached directly to the motherboard. Do not use any port on the front as it is most likely an emulated port. Definitely do not use a laptop dock USB ports, as those are emulated as well.
3.) It may also be worth while to format your SD card. Back up the contents and use your PC to format the card. Replace only the necessary files you need and leave the junk off of it.
4.) If you're able to get Odin to recognize your phone after taking the steps above, then completely start from scratch. I'd even repartition the thing for good measure.
This one be ok?

I will format the card once I get home and see if that helps with the mounting issue.

Should be fine. Correct pin type.
are you using a USB port from the back of the machine (if pc) and if laptop have you tried all USB ports sometimes a port will have a lower voltage esp if they are in the front face of a tower and it makes transfers on the epicmtd crap out
I use the back ports... Two towers and a laptop.
I have a monoprice cable on the way. Should be here monday.
Ill post back then if I get it working or not... (although im not optimistic about it...)

If you get no love with the new cable it may be the drivers

Well... I could test out new drivers on all the cables right now...
I'm using the ones linked here:

When the phone is plugged in in download mode , check The device manager on the computer and see if you have any exclamations

When I try to flash the new OXM firmware T830XXU2ARJ3 with Odin 3.13.1, it stucks at "setup connection".
I've already tried it multiple times with different solutions I found in the web.
I used various cables (all are original), USB-ports and operating systems and I've already restarted the tablet multiple times in the download mode.
I downloaded the firmware with SamFirm, also three times until now.
Do you have any ideas what could be the problem?

Reinstall drivers, uninstall Kies, (use a different usb port/cable) witch you have done so ignore.. Try a different version of Odin, use a different pc
or Rightclick -> Run as administrator try that...
Turn of your Tab S4, wait about ten mins turn back on then try.. Also if you have SD Card remove that then try...
I solved the problem.
It seems to be that the Tab S4 only has an USB 2.0 Type-C port and because of that, it's not compatible with the USB 3.1 ports in my PC.
As soon as I connect it to an USB 2.0 port from an older PC, it works flawless.
Yea, I had the same issue when I tried to flash mine on my Desktop.... had to bust out a USB 2.0 port on a older laptop for it to work.
(I have a Galaxy S9 Snapdragon)
So ok, Odin is the only way to go. Everything you have to flash/upgrade, you do it by Odin. Ok...
But, Odin's compatibility? WTF !
I have a notebook with 3 USB ports. All of them are 3.0 USB. None of these ports works with Odin (apparently Odin does not support 3.0 USB ports).
Ok, no problem. My mother has an old notebook, with some 2.0 USB ports. It also doesn't work... Tested with three other notebooks and nothing...
But, my mom also has an old "All In One" computer, apparently with some 1.0 and 2.0 USB ports. This is the only computer that I have access that works with Odin.
So here I am, having to keep a huge box in my bedroom, with an old computer, in case I ever need to use Odin...
So tell me, is this normal? Are you guys able to use Odin with 3.0 USB ports? I want to get rid of this huge box and be able to use Odin freely, in any computer.
Also, I'm using the official cable, the correct Odin version (3.14.1 and 3.14.4), installed all the Samsung Drivers, uninstalled Kies, tried with USB-C to USB-C cable and got nothing...
Whenever I flash something, Odin detects my phone, but I get stuck in "SetupConnection...", with the error "Can't open the serial (COM) port."
The only computer that this error does not occur is in this old computer that I have..
#HelpMe
Thanks...
Sounds more like you don't have the correct drivers installed on the other machines, it works fine on USB3.0 ports here
I use Odin with USB3 ports. Done it today and yesterday, using 3.14.1
Hello, whenever I try flashing my Samsung Galaxy with Odin 3.14.1 Patched, I am getting "Can't open the serial(COM) port." I have tried using multiple USB cables and ports, nothing is working. Are there any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!
