In Brief:
Got New Phone due to light leak. Finally after 2 months
Came with 2.2 on it.
Used the new 2.2 Root Guide with Unrevoked. Worked great.
Installed VirusROMX - working great.
Wanted to try out the Final 6.0 ROM from Cyan.
NanDroided the ViruxROMX
Got an error 7? So I found this link that was to correct that issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752832
Flashed the new Hboot and it allowed me to install the CYAN R6.0.
CYAN ROM - Keep on Rebooting and Reloading the CYAN Boot Screen after setup and scrolling some apps.
Removed it and went for a Nandroid Restore.
I get the MD5 Checksum message and then trying to reload boot image. And Boot Image cannot load.
I have tried to reflash the recovery(Clockwork) and still no good.
My working Daily with all my updates and apps are on the Nandroid. I would hate to lose it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Anyone?

instead of re-flashing the recovery, have you tried to do a restore via a nand recovery, or is that what your talking about that you did.

That's is what I tried to do. It would say boot image unloadable and spits me out to the HBOOT options. With no ROM loaded and messes up my current ROM in place.
At least for me when I restored in the past and I have done it often is that I would just restore and not wipe or anything since the restore does all of that for me. Well in this case it does not and when it cannot restore I have to reload a new ROM again in recovery and start the process all over again. I have tried the NANDROID again after going through the entire ROM reload again and still a no go.
I can't nandroid restore my old daily which has text messages and everything that I wanted to reference. I can live without it but the inability to restore any Nandroid is driving me crazy.
It happened when I flashed that HBOOT update on the link I provided in OP. I am just trying to figure out how to reflash the old image back so I don't have to worry about it. The only reason I did it in the first place is to test out the Cyanogen R6 and that wasn't a good experience.
I guess I could post in the thread that started all of this to ask. But I thought I would keep the SECTION POLICE from hounding me about posting in the wrong section
about the hboot, did you try the PC36IMG.zip, or did you do the flashable zip file through recovery?
I did the flashable file though recovery last night had no issue with that, maybe that's the problem, what is it showing for you current hboot.

The PC36IMG.zip - I will try the flash.
The Hboot through PC36IMG.zip worked fine. It's the nandroid thats fuxored. Will try later on and see. Thanks for the suggestion.
I had to redo the second part of the Froyo 2.2 update with the Rooted Froyo and the 2.2 unrevoked. It finally worked and I was able to restore. I really want to try out the CM 6.0 again in the future but not at the expense of time to restore to get it back.
OK, so I'm a bit of a n00b here, and I need just a quick hand.
I'd flashed Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo a few days ago and was attempting to use metamorph to tweak the battery icon. Ran a Nand backup beforehand. Something went wrong with the metamorph and I was stuck in a bootloop afterwards.
So I hit power and held down on the volume rocker, hoping to get into my Nand.
Instead, it wouldn't let me select anything, went through its own update/recovery process, and now that it's done, I'm back to stock (complete with sprint bloatware) and totally unrooted. I DLed Rom Manager off the market and tried to get into Amon_Ra recovery, but it keeps telling me I don't have permission (thus I deduce I've lost root access.)
Is there anyway I can flash my Nand at this point, or do I need to go back through the rooting process?
Thanks for your help.

To get a recovery on your phone, you need to have root.
To get root need superuser permissions and/or nand unlock
To get nand unlock and superuser permissions you need to go through the rooting process.
If you've used unrevoked 3.21 and have S-OFF. You can flash recoveries and superuser permissions without having to go through any rooting process.
So I guess then what I need to understand is how would I go about flashing the superuser?
edit: at this point I've already gone through the whole rooting process, including unrevokedforever.zip and the additional ENG bootloader. I get into ROM manager, and go to recovery, but the clockworkmod recovery doesn't see my most recent backup. Reflashing to RA recovery, it finds it, but tells me I have to run the recovery via ADB. ???
Pretty sure what happened is that you left a stock pc36img.zip on your sd card, leftover from your rooting process. When you booted into hboot, it loaded it automatically and you must have hit update. Not sure what caused your bootloop though.
Check your sd card, and if theres a pc36img.zip on it, delete it. Look for the superuser app in your app drawer, and also check your hboot to see if you're s-off. If you are in fact back to unrooted stock, you can always run unrevoked to quickly root and then you can restore your nandroid, just make sure you have the same recovery that you used to make the nandroid.

When you go into the loader (Vol Down + Power) does it say S-Off in the first line?
If it does then you still have root and you can flash the custom recovery's .zip and you will be able to load back into recovery.
If you have S-Off read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8285266&postcount=1

Definitely. So now I need to get my microSD card reader and remove it. Can do.
Any idea why both Clockworkmod and Amon_RA are unable to load my backup? Versions for RA should be the same, and I think the same for Clockwork as well.
OK, I deleted PC36IMG.zip, now it just stays stuck in bootloader.
looks like I'm hosed, but here's what I'm learning on Freeza's thread, where I DLed the PC36IMG.zip in the first place:
freeza said:
UPDATE: It appears as though everyone is getting stuck in bootloader after this procedure. You can get out of this by reflashing your current ROM (without wiping) and/or restore a nandroid backup. Some have reported errors when trying to restore a nandroid backup. YMMV
Karadorde has put together a package that works. Read his instructions below:
First and foremost it seems that if you get stuck in the Bootloader (no matter what method you are using) then your Nandroid backups are broken. I don't know that anyone has been able to successfully restore from one of those yet.
The file in the OP allows you to apply just the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This works flawlessly for some but not so well for others.
The file in Post 71 and Post 91 allows you to apply a full PC36IMG.zip that contains the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This is a fix for some who have gotten stuck in the Bootloader after using the file from the OP. At the same time this has also caused the some of the same issues people were having with getting stuck in the Bootloader from the OP. This file will not downgrade any part of your phone, however, it will wipe the phone. Also it is reported that it broke root on one phone. I believe this only happened to one person, need confirmation on if it happened to multiple.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader you can re-flash your Kernel to fix the issue. Not sure if this works with the stock Kernel or if you have to have a custom Kernel. Looking for feedback on this.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader reflash your current rom. Need feedback on this as well.

i do believe so, but someone correct me if im wrong, i do know when i unrooted a few weeks ago with the RUU i went to the newest hboot, but now that i'm rooted again im back to the ENG .76 version.
Running a RUU will put you at full stock, including radios and hboot.
If you are still stuck, try running the most current RUU and then rerooting.

Also, because this might be a bad radio flash, can reflashing radio hurt?

Could you give more information so I could be of help. Like what Rom, kernel, recovery anything specific...

I recommend you flash the previous version and then do a full wipe....next, flash a rom...then when that boots you can go back into recovery again and restore a nandroid if you would like....

Using Clockwork 2.5.1 (?, flashing right now) so I can't check.
Was on MYN RLS4. Flashed the bundled radio zip linked above, now in this situation. Currently, I'm flashing to RLS5 after a ADB push of the zip file. Edit: Was on BS#6 Kernel
If this doesn't work, I'll flash a deodexed stock 3.70.
Any more recommendations?
edit: Looks like I got past the HTC Evo 4G screen, just waiting for the MYN boot animation now.
edit2: I booted up, thanks for the help. At least I can rest knowing that my radio flash wasn't borked.

Ive had the same problem today on two different evos, with two different recoveries! Both times I just booted into recovery and ran a full nandroid backup, then restarted and it stuck in white screen.
First was with amon_ra recovery. I pulled the battery after it stuck on white screen and it rebooted fine.
Second time was with clockwork. I just now pulled the battery and rebooted..... and it looks to be sticking again.
Both are running Fresh Rom. v3.5.01 I think.
Do you have the SDK installed and a usb cable? Hook up the evo, then do: "adb logcat", power on, and post the output. Note: it sounds like it is looping so watch carefully and when you see it looping hit "crtl+c" to stop logcat.
Do this! download this to you sd card http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PXIYUNSY than boot into bottloader, let the phone search for the file update and this should get you up and running. The problem doing what you did is that that works when a different kernel not htc kernel.
good lookin out

You will not Loose Root.
You lucky son of a gun, my old evo wouldn't even not into recovery. Just bootloader. After stressing out for hours trying to fix it I finally got a replacement
The same thing happened to me and your link worked like a charm. I was just wondering if after I did this would I still be able to try and flash a different rom? or am I stuck with this one? I am just wondering....as you can see Im pretty new to the rooting game.
Basically, if you update your radios, you have to also update your rom to 3.70 build otherwise the phone won't get pass the bootanimation screen. Normally, you would update the rom then update the radios. Also, to nandroid or flash back to 3.30 build, you have to downgrade the radios back to the version used for 3.30. I was stuck on bootloop with new radios if I flashed any rom below 3.70, but downgrading the radios to previous version allowed for 3.30 nandroid restores.
Ok thank you a bunch for the info!! you were a life saver lol

Ok so I did what you said above and loaded that file onto sd card and went into bootloader if worked and i managed to get into recovery and flashed fresh and got the phone booted all way but I want Warm two point two so i flashed that version 4 and it wont go past the white HTC screen what can I do
Alright so a while back I used unrevoked on my wifes incredible and it worked just fine. she updated it recently so today I went to reroot and prep to install a new rom. Problem is it failed to get root with the newest unrevoked. Ti backup fails to get root yet mybackup gets it and so does rom manager. I'm trying to get into clockwork through the hboot menu. Maybe I'm doing something wrong by going through there..i tried to backup with cwm through rom manager and it worked (didn't till i flashed the latest recovery but still) but I'd still like to get into cwm for myself not rely on rom manager. I've yet to try to reboot into recovery that way or restore the backup I made as I am at work but regardless..any ideas? I know when things are being ridiculous with the fascinate I can just odin and go from there..is there something along those lines for the dinc? If not what should I do to root the thing..get clockwork again..and flash the new rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.
Thanks!

I can get to HBOOT but from there all i can do is reboot or fast boot, I havent done the factory reset yet but i intend to try. But from hboot I want to get into cwm, or do i get into cwm recovery a different way?
Mind you I havent tried to get into it since flashing the newest cwm through rom manager (or that I remember trying or not..been a hectic past week..im losing my damn mind, grandmother passed away in Anaheim, etc, etc)
also im going to reroot and do a completely different rom, it is stock minus wonky root and launcher pro. I finally convinced the wife to let me modify it.
Ifu don't see recovery option in any hboot option. Like there's no clockwork u should by able to flash clockwork and then a Rom.ican pm you.but if unroot is your objective goto Android dev stickies there's a thread.
sent from dinc
thats the thing, I see the recovery option, but everytime I select it, it tried to find a multitude of images, says file doesnt exist on all of them (4 or 5 of them I believe) and sends me back to the main hboot screen.
Suppose that information would have been useful. Again, hectic week lol
use say u have rom manager?
yes, im wondering if I need a stock recovery image since it isnt finding the PBwhaterver.img Any idea where I can get that?
Also probably helpful, I had used unrevoked forever a while back. Im thinking I need to undo those changes and just retry everything.
Thoughts?
Edit: Downloaded a new clockwork recovery image from unrevoked forever wiki, gonna throw it on the SD card and see what happens. HOPEFULLY that will let me into cwr, if not, how do I just put everything back to stock so I can start over?
try that file. get rid of the mlti part should sayPB31IMG. also make sure no other files of the same name are on root of sd.should say update vol up yes wait reboot no see ifu got recovery got newr versions too. also new urevoked have versions without clockwork u prolly used tht one. easy fix tho
alright, gonna give it a shot when I get home in the morning. Wish me luck.
Alright flashing with rom manager and selecting reboot into recovery from there worked just fine. we are in business for now anyways lol.

Hey guys,
So here's what happened and is happening:
1. I was running a custom ROM (Baked Snack 1.7) on Froyo (2.2). The phone was working fine but I wanted to try Gingerbread 2.3.3 out because I heard it had great battery life.
2. My phone would not update to 2.3.3 from Baked Snack. I thought it might have something to do with it being rooted. I used this method to unroot...and I think I only got through the first part:
http://www.thedroiddemos.com/2010/09/10/how-to-unroot-the-evo-in-2-steps/
I installed the S-On tool like he said to. Then I moved the "new updated version" of PC36IMG (I had the old version on my card already). He said something about the "S-Off" appearing on his phone but not the viewer's...well, mine says S-Off.
So fast forwarding, I got Sprint to push me the update for 2.3.3. It downloaded it, but then a voicemail error came up saying I had 2 voicemails. Then when I called voicemail, it said I had no messages. Sprint said a Sprint store would have to physically go into the phone to erase the error.
I also got a second update message that said there were minor enhancements to Gingerbread. I tried downloading them but the installation failed. Sprint told me to ignore the update, that there had been issues with Gingerbread (and the update) and that they were working on getting these resolved.
Somehow I managed to clear the phone and get back to 2.1. Here's what my system says when I look at the Phone Information:
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
When I boot into the main bootloader/Recovery menu (Phone Off + Power Button + Volume Down), here's what it says:
Supersonic EVT2-2 ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.76.2000 (PC3610000)
If I click down to Recovery from this menu and press "Power" to enter it, NOW I get a picture of an EVO with a Red Triangle/Exclamation Point. This means I have to take my battery out and restart the phone.
Also, the OTA SimpleRoot procedure doesn't seem to work on the phone either. When I originally set it back, the procedure worked. Now it just goes through the motions on the computer but nothing happens with the phone (rebooting, skating Androids, etc.)
All I want to do is basically put it back 2.2 and re-run Baked Snack 1.7 which was giving me NO issues.
If someone could help me with this issue, I would be very grateful.
Well you have a simple fix. The error you got with the triangle and red ! is you booting into recovery, but no recovery is loaded [stock recovery]. Head over to the development section, and download the recovery of your choice. Personally I recommend in order: twrp [team win recovery project] , amon ra 2.3, cwm 3.0+. After you have your recovery installed, boot back into recovery and flash your baked snack rom. Also, don't manually take an OTA of 2.3.3 as it can't be rooted. if you want to try a gingerbread rom, simply download CM7, evervolv, deck's, ect rom and flash it like any other rom. Just backup your previous rom before flashing so you can go back.

Basically amon ra, but better. it has some additional options, such as the option to automatically reboot after a successful flash [good for doing a single flash, but if you're doing multiple, checked it at the last flash.] You have the option to compress backups to save space, though it takes a little bit longer, and they have some built in skins you can change at will. And MOAR.
I tried rooting using this method:
http://www.androidcentral.com/evo-4g-root-instructions
I put the PC36IMG on the root of my SD card and let the phone update in bootloader. It seemed to work fine, updated, rebooted the phone, etc.
Then I downloaded ROM Manager so I could let Clockwork install and then install Amon Ra....when ROM Manager tried installing Clockwork, it gave me the following message: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"
It also will not let me flash an alternate recovery. I have the file "recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img" on the root of my SD card right now.
What does this mean? Does this mean I'm not rooted? Or some other issue? I remember eons ago when I tried using this program I got the same message but I don't remember how I got around it. (obviously I did though)
Is there a different way I should install it?

That's a bit outdated; use unrevoked. I've already done the linking for you.
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install <- Download and install the modified hboot drivers, follow the instructions.
2. On your phone, enable usb debugging from the applications > development, in settings
3. Connect your phone to your pc via usb cable, leave it on the home screen, no apps should be running; restart the phone just to be sure.
4. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install <- download and run unrevoked
It'll take 3-5 minutes and reboot about 2 times, don't touch in the process, it'll say done at the end. Also, this will only work if on 2.2 still. if on 2.3.3, you're outta luck.
Okay, forget Rom Manager, forget "rooting" your phone - at least according to the normal use of the word.
Delete any PC36IMG files you may have on your SD card, then download this one of Amon Ra 2.3: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
Don't rename it, don't extract it... just put it on the root of your SD card. Then download whatever rom you want to use. Put it on the root of your SD card or in a folder that you'll remember. Amon Ra (and possibly other recoveries) can flash zips that are inside of folders. Just be sure that you know where it is because you'll need to navigate to it in recovery.
Then boot into the bootloader and let it flash the way you've done with other PC36IMG files. When it asks you to reboot just decline and then select recovery. I would make a backup just in case, then flash your rom.

OK, I forgot to mention this earlier...last time I was stuck in the Boot Sequence where it kept looping the Sprint and 4G logo....now that I'm rooted using plainjane's method (thank you) I'm stuck with the same thing.
I flashed the recovery, then flashed the Baked Snack ROM....now I'm in the Baked Snack bootload section....and it just keeps looping.
Is this an issue with my system that can be resolved?
EDIT: So weird. I went back into Recovery and wiped everything and set the phone back to original condition...and voila, Baked Snack comes up as the ROM! So now it appears it's for the most part back to normal and back to where I wanted it....thank you guys again.
Now can anyone point me in the direction of the latest radios, etc. that I can download and flash?
And why would it be giving me those looping problems, and then go back to normal when I cleared/wiped everything?
I mean, I'm happy this happened but I don't want the same things happening if I decide to flash another ROM at some point.
