[Q] How the heck did I Unroot? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, so I'm a bit of a n00b here, and I need just a quick hand.
I'd flashed Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo a few days ago and was attempting to use metamorph to tweak the battery icon. Ran a Nand backup beforehand. Something went wrong with the metamorph and I was stuck in a bootloop afterwards.
So I hit power and held down on the volume rocker, hoping to get into my Nand.
Instead, it wouldn't let me select anything, went through its own update/recovery process, and now that it's done, I'm back to stock (complete with sprint bloatware) and totally unrooted. I DLed Rom Manager off the market and tried to get into Amon_Ra recovery, but it keeps telling me I don't have permission (thus I deduce I've lost root access.)
Is there anyway I can flash my Nand at this point, or do I need to go back through the rooting process?
Thanks for your help.

To get a recovery on your phone, you need to have root.
To get root need superuser permissions and/or nand unlock
To get nand unlock and superuser permissions you need to go through the rooting process.
If you've used unrevoked 3.21 and have S-OFF. You can flash recoveries and superuser permissions without having to go through any rooting process.

So I guess then what I need to understand is how would I go about flashing the superuser?
edit: at this point I've already gone through the whole rooting process, including unrevokedforever.zip and the additional ENG bootloader. I get into ROM manager, and go to recovery, but the clockworkmod recovery doesn't see my most recent backup. Reflashing to RA recovery, it finds it, but tells me I have to run the recovery via ADB. ???

Pretty sure what happened is that you left a stock pc36img.zip on your sd card, leftover from your rooting process. When you booted into hboot, it loaded it automatically and you must have hit update. Not sure what caused your bootloop though.
Check your sd card, and if theres a pc36img.zip on it, delete it. Look for the superuser app in your app drawer, and also check your hboot to see if you're s-off. If you are in fact back to unrooted stock, you can always run unrevoked to quickly root and then you can restore your nandroid, just make sure you have the same recovery that you used to make the nandroid.

When you go into the loader (Vol Down + Power) does it say S-Off in the first line?
If it does then you still have root and you can flash the custom recovery's .zip and you will be able to load back into recovery.
If you have S-Off read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8285266&postcount=1

Definitely. So now I need to get my microSD card reader and remove it. Can do.
Any idea why both Clockworkmod and Amon_RA are unable to load my backup? Versions for RA should be the same, and I think the same for Clockwork as well.

OK, I deleted PC36IMG.zip, now it just stays stuck in bootloader.

looks like I'm hosed, but here's what I'm learning on Freeza's thread, where I DLed the PC36IMG.zip in the first place:
freeza said:
UPDATE: It appears as though everyone is getting stuck in bootloader after this procedure. You can get out of this by reflashing your current ROM (without wiping) and/or restore a nandroid backup. Some have reported errors when trying to restore a nandroid backup. YMMV
Karadorde has put together a package that works. Read his instructions below:
First and foremost it seems that if you get stuck in the Bootloader (no matter what method you are using) then your Nandroid backups are broken. I don't know that anyone has been able to successfully restore from one of those yet.
The file in the OP allows you to apply just the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This works flawlessly for some but not so well for others.
The file in Post 71 and Post 91 allows you to apply a full PC36IMG.zip that contains the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This is a fix for some who have gotten stuck in the Bootloader after using the file from the OP. At the same time this has also caused the some of the same issues people were having with getting stuck in the Bootloader from the OP. This file will not downgrade any part of your phone, however, it will wipe the phone. Also it is reported that it broke root on one phone. I believe this only happened to one person, need confirmation on if it happened to multiple.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader you can re-flash your Kernel to fix the issue. Not sure if this works with the stock Kernel or if you have to have a custom Kernel. Looking for feedback on this.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader reflash your current rom. Need feedback on this as well.

If you reflash using the RUU from stock roms .com will that reset your hboot back to the non-dev hboot?

i do believe so, but someone correct me if im wrong, i do know when i unrooted a few weeks ago with the RUU i went to the newest hboot, but now that i'm rooted again im back to the ENG .76 version.

Running a RUU will put you at full stock, including radios and hboot.
If you are still stuck, try running the most current RUU and then rerooting.

[Q] cant access recovery after root with unrevoked 3.21

Hey guys and gals,
This is my first post and i need some help. Here's the story.
I rooted my phone a few weeks ago, everything went stunningly easy, and worked great. Clockworkmod recovery was installed (by unrevoked) at this time. While driving home I broke my phone's screen and had to get a replacement phone. Asurion had a phone to me within 18 hours (my word they're fast). I slapped the 16GB SD card from my first phone in and I was off and running.
So I have my new phone with my original 16GB SD card and set it up normally again. I wanted to wait a bit and get it set prior to rooting again. Tonight I rooted the phone with Unrevoked 3.21 as I did before. It went much faster than before. I now have S-Off but clockworkmod recovery is not on my hboot screen and recovery mode doesn't work at all. Just a black screen for about 15 seconds before loading into the OS.
Have I screwed up a one click root? I've tried a few things.
I used droid-life as a guide to help me root.
Phone Stats:
Droid Incredible
Asurion replacement
OS 2.2
radio 2.15.00.07.28
kernel 2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1
build 3.21.605.1 CL231334 release-keys
Although clockworkmod recovery isn't in Hboot the reflash tool still says "Recovery Image: ClockworkMod Recovery" on the bottom. I have tried renaming the clockworkmod folder on the SD card to see if it would create a new one, or boot into clockworkmod recovery after realizing the folder is not there.
I have also tried formatting my SD card and running the reflash tool again. Again no dice, no recovery mode.
I have tried unrevoked 3.21 after every change.
What have I done? what do I do? any suggestions?
Thanks for anybody and everybody's input. I appreciate it. I would like to start flashing roms but really dont want to mess with it if I dont have a recovery option.
-MOJO
Is it a complete download of the unrevoked tool? Sounds almost like the recovery package isn't there. Try redownloading unrevoked and run it again. Do you have root and Superuser app at least? If so, try downloading and running ROM Manager and tell it to flash Clockwork again. Still no dice, try telling it to flash RA recovery. And for the record, which screen do you have?
I wish I knew

thanks for the quick reply I will try that. Yes I have root and the superuser app.
I dont know how to tell which screen I have, but I was wondering the same thing. BoyGeniusReport says its incredibly hard to tell the difference and I haven't found were it says SLED vs AMOLED
Grrrr

Downloaded unrevoked 3.21 straight from unrevoked twice.
Tried the reflashing clockworkmod recovery, no dice.
Whats an RA recovery?

It's an alternate recovery. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758874
It's also the second to the last option in ROM Manager. Flash Alternate Recovery: RA_GNM Recovery v1.7.6
I actually like that one better. It was able to format my SD card correctly. I just miss the integration with ROM Manager.
Phew... It worked.
the alternate recovery worked.
now if I want to flash ROMs do I need to know anything in particular before doing so with the AMON_RA recovery tool.
I downloaded the a4d utility that I found when doing a search for AMON_RA on appbrain. It asks if I want to flash my phone to unlock my bootloader (and void my warranty, haha).
do I need to unlock my bootloader before flashing ROM's
I like the sense UI. thats all I have actually used. Is there anything better? what are suggested, STABLE, ROMs/kernels for the DInc? or should I stay "stock 2.2 rooted"?

Uncommon sense with king kernel bfs # 5 is as good or better than stock.
Btw. Hboot only shows recovery, not clockwork recovery. Did you ever try selecting recovery from hboot?

Uncommon sense has some of it removed. Some of it you can remove yourself. It's the only rom I've donated to and had on my phone more than two days.
Just be careful if removing stuff. Some of it has other dependencies. There are guides on how to remove things safely without breaking other functionality.
Also do a backup first. I'm not sure how amon ra works, but it must be in there somewhere.

It is. In the main menu, just like Clockwork
So I definitely have recovery with the amon_RA 1.7.6 alternative recovery with the ROM manager. but from what I have read I can no longer use ROM manager to flash.
Now I have been searching for information/instructions on how to use AMON_RA but have come up short, at least recently written stuff. I can find a ton of information about clockworkmod which I assume is because of Unrevoked 3.21.
PonsAsinorem as you said you miss the integration of ROM manager. I really want to use ROM manager.
I read somewhere in XDA that people were having trouble using clockworkmod and ROM manager and it could be because of a corrupted cache. there were some LIMITED instructions about using ADB to fix it but I wasn't completely understanding them.
I think my problem is spawning from using my old SD card and maybe a corrupted cache. I have made a back up using Amon_RA (actually two).
Does anyone think that completely formatting my SD card (after moving my backups to my MAC) and factory restoring my phone. then reflashed using unrevoked 3.21, or reflashed clockworkmod recovery using rom manager would work to solve my problem with clockworkmod recovery?
I would have backups if it didn't work. I would just have to restore the Amon_RA backup if I screwed anything up or wanted my SD card back... Right?
Thanks for all the help so far.

[Q][ROOT][UNREVOKED] I have S-OFF but that is all

I'm new to android, coming from the htc diamond/windows mobile.
I'm super interested in getting the bloatware off of my evo, so I want to root and flash a new rom.
I decided to try out unrevoked method of root, because im new to the android platform and it seems super easy.
I ran the program. It does a fair amount of work, but after the first reboot (which doesn't reboot to bootloader) it says it's pushing root, then says that communications were interrupted unexpectedly, try again.
I have tried again and again...have found that many people don't like the unrevoked/clockwork method anyway, and have decided to go manual.
Now, in bootloader, I can see that I have s-off, but since I decided to use a one-click method, I don't really know what else to do. I guess I have security turned off, but do I have root?

I've read of a lot of people having that issue with Unrevoked, but strangely enough, I've used it many many times, and have never had an issue. Just gotta make sure there are no programs on your computer that can 'talk' to the phone through USB while its happening (htc sync, dropbox, pdanet, music syncing, etc) and have the correct hboot drivers installed.
Anyways, to answer your question, if you are already showing S off, then I'd say you just need to flash a recovery. What happens when you select recovery from the bootloader at this point in time? Do you just get the red triangle? What I would do is put this PC36IMG on your sd card ( its Amon Ra Recovery, V2.3, which better than clockwork in my opinion) Make sure it's on the main directory of your card, and that its named exactly PC36IMG. Boot into the bootloader, and it should then scan and find the PC36IMG and ask you to update. Hit volume up to say yes, and let it flash. That will flash the recovery. Once that finished, try going to recovery and see if everything went smoothly. If so, you should be good to start flashing roms, kernels, removing bloat etc.
If you do still want to do it the manual way, then before doing so, I suggest undoing what Unrevoked did before starting, getting back to stock. To do that, flash the Unrevoked S on tool, to turn S back to on. Then run a PC36IMG of a factory ROM or run an RUU. That will put you completely back to stock, so you can start fresh with whatever method you want to try. Good luck.
Link to RUU's and PC36IMG

EDIT: also added the Unrevoked S On tool, in case you want to get back to stock, however, you do need a custom recovery installed in order to flash that.
Interesting.
Before going to the easier one-click method from unrEVOked, I did use the pc36img on the sd card. I was in bootloader, I saw it checking the sd card, I saw the blue status bar on the right, but was never asked if I wanted to update. rather, it said that my 'main recovery was newer' ...or something
i just tried the file pc3... file that you gave me and i got the update!
ok so: i have s-off, and i flashed the recovery (that's what I just did, right?)
next, i'm going to go into bootloader and select recovery? that is to make sure that everything went smoothly?

Exactly. That is correct. Let me know what happens when you select recovery now. It should take you to Amon Ra's recovery screen, which is all black with green lettering. If that's the case, then you are rooted, S-off, with custom recovery installed. At that point, I'd boot into the ROM, and make sure everything is operating as normal. If it is, i would go back to the bootloader, select recovery again, and choose backup/restore, to create a nandroid backup (backs up the entire system), so you have a good and working nandroid backup from the point you are currently at right now, which is stock rom, rooted with recovery.
yes i did it and I got the good recovery screen. at the bottom it said amon ra custom recovery (or something like that).

Don't run the RUU. RUU will restore you back to stock UNrooted. You are good to go on installing and flashing new Roms just as you are, just boot into recovery and do what you need to in there.

Sweet, glad it worked for you. As the other guy said, don't run the RUU. I'm not familiar with WinMo, but with Android, you definitely ONLY run RUU if you want to get back to stock unrooted, to bring in for service or something. That will make your phone look like the day you took it out of the box. To flash ROMS on an Evo, you do it all from that custom recovery. You wipe everything from within recovery (data, davlik cache, cache), then select "flash zip from sd card", find your ROM in there (you'd have put it on the sd card ) then choose it and let it flash. Thats it. Happy flashing!
ahhh so i don't even have to unzip the roms anymore....

Precisely. No unzipping the roms at all. You basically just download it, don't unzip/extract it or anything. Drop the (zipped) zip on the main directory of your sd card, boot to recovery, select flash zip, find rom, and thats it. Again, I'm not familiar with winmo at all, so I'm not sure on what the wiping procedures were with that. However, a good rule of thumb here is any time you are going to change a ROM, it is highly recommended to do a complete wipe (wipe data/factory reset, davlik cache, and cache). I also flash calkulins format all.zip, which also wipes boot and system. A fresh and clean wipe gives the new ROM you're about to try the best chance to run the best it can. When you flash anything else at all, such as a kernel, theme, modification etc, you just need to wipe davlik cache and cache. Only a full wipe on ROM changes. I'll attatch calkulin's format all.zip. It's a zip file taht you flash in recovery, and it then wipes everything (except your sd card, it won't touch that)

[Q] Fresh + Unrevoked= ?

Hi. I am hoping someone can answer this as I couldn't find answer in any threads. I'm a noob as far as rooting & flashing roms go. I currently have Myns warm RLS5 installed via rom manager. I was gonna give Fresh a try. However, in Flipz guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726090, says that unrevoked is not considered full root. I'm assuming this means it won't flash properly. So my question is, can I reroot my evo w/ his suggested method? Or do I have to unroot first. Again, I apologize if this is a stupid question. I've been rooted a week and haven't even done any theming which was kind of the point. Beginning to think I'm over my head. Thanks.

If you are running RLS5, you are more than likely still rooted. To see if you are rooted, power off your device. Now simultaneously press the down volume button and the power button until your device starts. You will be taken to the bootloader screen. after a pause, you will see text scroll across the screen. At the top, you should see either S-ON or S-OFF. If it's S-OFF, you are still rooted. To flash Fresh, don't use ROM Manager. It is far too easy to just go into recovery and flash it. When you do, make sure you do a complete wipe/factory reset before flashing the rom you want to flash.
Thanks for your response. I am still rooted. So, do you think it'll be fine even though I'm rooted unrevoked method? I only ask because of Flipz statement regarding it in this link?

You'll be okay if you use the more recent version. The older version didn't give you nand unlocked [full root] and you needed to flash the forever zip; which was integrated. So no worries.

teh roxxorz is right, you *should* be fine with the recovery you have. Still, I recommend you use amon RA v2.3 as your recovery. You can flash it over the ClockworkMod recovery that Unrevoked put on your device. Installation takes less than 10 seconds to complete. amon RA can be downloaded from http://goo.gl/cgh5e Just put the PC36IMG.zip file on the root of your SD card (not in any folder) and make sure you do not have any other file with the same name on the root of your card.
To install:
Shut down your EVO and then press & hold the volume down button while pressing the power button. When your EVO starts, you will be directed to the bootloader screen where amon RA zip file will be automatically detected and you will be prompted to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds to complete. Afterwards, reboot into recovery.
If you're going to flash Fresh, go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING in it except the SD card itself. afterwards, select RETURN at the top and then go to the Flash menu and then flash Fresh.
UPDATE: Please get in the habit of making a nandroid backup of your device anytime you change roms or make significant changes to your setup. By doing so, you can always return to the way you had it prior to making the changes in case you are dissatisfied with the changes you've made.
Much appreciated to you both for your help. I'll give it a go.

Major Major Issues With 2.1 - 2.3 (Rooted/Unrooted)

Hey guys,
So here's what happened and is happening:
1. I was running a custom ROM (Baked Snack 1.7) on Froyo (2.2). The phone was working fine but I wanted to try Gingerbread 2.3.3 out because I heard it had great battery life.
2. My phone would not update to 2.3.3 from Baked Snack. I thought it might have something to do with it being rooted. I used this method to unroot...and I think I only got through the first part:

I installed the S-On tool like he said to. Then I moved the "new updated version" of PC36IMG (I had the old version on my card already). He said something about the "S-Off" appearing on his phone but not the viewer's...well, mine says S-Off.
So fast forwarding, I got Sprint to push me the update for 2.3.3. It downloaded it, but then a voicemail error came up saying I had 2 voicemails. Then when I called voicemail, it said I had no messages. Sprint said a Sprint store would have to physically go into the phone to erase the error.
I also got a second update message that said there were minor enhancements to Gingerbread. I tried downloading them but the installation failed. Sprint told me to ignore the update, that there had been issues with Gingerbread (and the update) and that they were working on getting these resolved.
Somehow I managed to clear the phone and get back to 2.1. Here's what my system says when I look at the Phone Information:
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
When I boot into the main bootloader/Recovery menu (Phone Off + Power Button + Volume Down), here's what it says:
Supersonic EVT2-2 ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.76.2000 (PC3610000)
If I click down to Recovery from this menu and press "Power" to enter it, NOW I get a picture of an EVO with a Red Triangle/Exclamation Point. This means I have to take my battery out and restart the phone.
Also, the OTA SimpleRoot procedure doesn't seem to work on the phone either. When I originally set it back, the procedure worked. Now it just goes through the motions on the computer but nothing happens with the phone (rebooting, skating Androids, etc.)
All I want to do is basically put it back 2.2 and re-run Baked Snack 1.7 which was giving me NO issues.
If someone could help me with this issue, I would be very grateful.
Well you have a simple fix. The error you got with the triangle and red ! is you booting into recovery, but no recovery is loaded [stock recovery]. Head over to the development section, and download the recovery of your choice. Personally I recommend in order: twrp [team win recovery project] , amon ra 2.3, cwm 3.0+. After you have your recovery installed, boot back into recovery and flash your baked snack rom. Also, don't manually take an OTA of 2.3.3 as it can't be rooted. if you want to try a gingerbread rom, simply download CM7, evervolv, deck's, ect rom and flash it like any other rom. Just backup your previous rom before flashing so you can go back.

Basically amon ra, but better. it has some additional options, such as the option to automatically reboot after a successful flash [good for doing a single flash, but if you're doing multiple, checked it at the last flash.] You have the option to compress backups to save space, though it takes a little bit longer, and they have some built in skins you can change at will. And MOAR.
I tried rooting using this method:
http://www.androidcentral.com/evo-4g-root-instructions
I put the PC36IMG on the root of my SD card and let the phone update in bootloader. It seemed to work fine, updated, rebooted the phone, etc.
Then I downloaded ROM Manager so I could let Clockwork install and then install Amon Ra....when ROM Manager tried installing Clockwork, it gave me the following message: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!"
It also will not let me flash an alternate recovery. I have the file "recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img" on the root of my SD card right now.
What does this mean? Does this mean I'm not rooted? Or some other issue? I remember eons ago when I tried using this program I got the same message but I don't remember how I got around it. (obviously I did though)
Is there a different way I should install it?

That's a bit outdated; use unrevoked. I've already done the linking for you.
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install <- Download and install the modified hboot drivers, follow the instructions.
2. On your phone, enable usb debugging from the applications > development, in settings
3. Connect your phone to your pc via usb cable, leave it on the home screen, no apps should be running; restart the phone just to be sure.
4. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install <- download and run unrevoked
It'll take 3-5 minutes and reboot about 2 times, don't touch in the process, it'll say done at the end. Also, this will only work if on 2.2 still. if on 2.3.3, you're outta luck.
Okay, forget Rom Manager, forget "rooting" your phone - at least according to the normal use of the word.
Delete any PC36IMG files you may have on your SD card, then download this one of Amon Ra 2.3: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
Don't rename it, don't extract it... just put it on the root of your SD card. Then download whatever rom you want to use. Put it on the root of your SD card or in a folder that you'll remember. Amon Ra (and possibly other recoveries) can flash zips that are inside of folders. Just be sure that you know where it is because you'll need to navigate to it in recovery.
Then boot into the bootloader and let it flash the way you've done with other PC36IMG files. When it asks you to reboot just decline and then select recovery. I would make a backup just in case, then flash your rom.

Thank you guys, I will try these methods when I get back from work tonight. I really really appreciate it, I was about having a meltdown without my phone (the way I want it).
I'll report back either way. (and yes, I'm still on 2.1-update1)

OK, I forgot to mention this earlier...last time I was stuck in the Boot Sequence where it kept looping the Sprint and 4G logo....now that I'm rooted using plainjane's method (thank you) I'm stuck with the same thing.
I flashed the recovery, then flashed the Baked Snack ROM....now I'm in the Baked Snack bootload section....and it just keeps looping.
Is this an issue with my system that can be resolved?
EDIT: So weird. I went back into Recovery and wiped everything and set the phone back to original condition...and voila, Baked Snack comes up as the ROM! So now it appears it's for the most part back to normal and back to where I wanted it....thank you guys again.
Now can anyone point me in the direction of the latest radios, etc. that I can download and flash?
And why would it be giving me those looping problems, and then go back to normal when I cleared/wiped everything?
I mean, I'm happy this happened but I don't want the same things happening if I decide to flash another ROM at some point.

pc36img problems

I have been using the very stable pc36img spring lovers version. I flashed a bunch of roms yesterday like I usually do. The last one was the miui rom from yesterday. It didn't work. tried to do a nandroid update but could not. Then I used the pc36img that has worked well for a while but everything updated except the system. it said failure-UZ. luckily later I was able to instal a hybrid rom with MANY bugs. I no longer can upload my contacts. If you have an idea or can point me in the direction of a pc36img that may solve this I would greatly appreciate it. I know I should have moved my backups to the sd card but I messed up here. Please help. Thanks
Honestly you should stop flashing roms as PC36IMG because you'll forget what they are eventually. Download the rom you want, place it on your sd card, then do a full wipe, and flash it in recovery, boot up, and you should be fine.
That is what I do. but after flashing yesterday's miui rom from the zip file my system wouldn't let me do a nandroid backup. In desparation I used my pc36img update and now a I am screwed
pc36img probs
yesterday I flashed a bunch of roms from the sd card but something happened after the miui zip file
pc36img
in desparation I used the pc36img update. Now I am looking for a way to fix the system update part of the pc36img update which doesn't work. I only use the pc36img when nothing else works.
can anyone point in the direction of some good pc36img files. I am very desperate here. I have tried everything
Take it to Sprint, tell them it just broke. They will happily load stock GB, then you can start over.
KJ
it is S-off. warrenty is finished. also I would like to fix it myself. All of these little messups teach me a lot
Did you try wiping everything except sdcard 3 times in recovery than flashing a .zip rom in recovery

I will try that. It will have to wait until monday bc I am on call this weekend. I can't lose my phone. thanks for the tip. I will post the results on monday. I hope it works. btw should I wipe with the sdcard removed?
pc36img
I couldn't wait. I tried it and it again said Fail-UZ when updating the system. it also said image unzipping fail. Any other ideas?
The only PC36IMG's you should ever flash, really is recovery and RUU. Everything else you should do in recovery with a flashable zip.

You hav to flash in {recovery} not bootloader
Download file (click link below) Keep as is go into bootloader let it scan hit no if it ask to update then hit recovery then click wipe then wipe everything except sdcard 3 times then hit flash zip from sdcard then go to this file that you downloaded and select it

now I can use roms but when running pc36img (sprint lovers) it always sais fail-uz (failure unzipping) should I just ignore this and move on??? I don't really know the significance of this. I can flash working roms now but something makes me feel uncertain. Why can't I update the system with the ruu? any other ideas?

just wiped everything again... and still no dice. The phone now works like it did before, but the pc36img (sprint lovers) system update always fails. I am running hboot 6.16.1002. Is that the wrong one?

ok this is all i can think of:
1 - get the original pc36img.zip file and put it in your sd
2 - delete the amon ra pc36img.zip that you have
3 - go into bootloader and when asked to update hit yes
4 - when asked to reboot hit yes
5 - if your phone reboots fine (i will give it a pretty good amount of time) download rom manager
6 - in rom manager flash Clock Work Mod (CWM)
7 - Then make a back up (optional).
8 - scroll down in Rom manager and flash alternate recovery (this will give you amon ra w/o having to put the pc36img.zip into your sd card.
9 - do what you wanted to do at first.

You guys are talking about PC36IMG.zip as if its a ROM that is being flashed. Sprint Lovers, if I am not mistaken, is a ROM that should be flashed via recovery like all ROMs should be. You should not be flashing PC36IMG.zip files through Bootloader unless you are updating radios, RUU back to stock, splash screen updates, etc. It sounds like you are spending a lot of time flashing things via bootloader and that is what got you in this mess to begin with. Can you get into recovery? If so then download any ROM, enter recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache/data, flash ROM, and then quit using the bootloader before you permanently screw up your phone. This problem should be able to be fixed without the use of a PC36IMG.zip file. Because you've gotten flash happy in your bootloader and as of right now you can't tell us exactly what you've flashed.
If you cant get into recovery then just download Amon Ra v2.3, flash it, and then do the steps I mentioned above. It's not difficult. Just stop getting flash happy with your bootloader.
There is a version of Sprint lovers that can be flashed thru bootloader
And for jj that might just mean the pc36img is corrupted you can download a new one but I say just nice on and use recovery instead of bootloader

"Warranty's" can be restored
pc36img probs
hmmm? I have tried everything as described above. maybe my sprint lovers pc36img has been corrupted. but I really don't think so bc I saved it in many different sdcards and in my computer. Should I try another .zip? can anyone point me to other pc36img files that may help. I must say that I do not flash anything by pc36img, but after I flashed hybrid I couldn't do anything. In desperation I tried my sprint lovers pc36img assuming I could go back. I had to many backups saved and it told me that I didn't have enough space when I tried to do a nandroid backup. I guess the take home message is to save nandroid backups to the sd card also. unfortunately mine is lost.
