CM roms and gps - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what the issue is with aosp roms and gps? Every one I try can lock on my location, but will not navigate. Google maps/navigation often just says "looking for gps".
I love the new Destroyer rom, but I NEED accurate navigation for work.

Have you tried the fix where you flash back to a sense rom and then type ##gpsclrx# in the dialer. Then flash back to your aosp rom backup.
Worked for me and many others on here.

I'll try that now. Thanks!

It did not make a difference. Here is what I did:
Nandroid restore of a previous sense rom.
##gpsclrx# from the dialer. Enter msl number.
Nandroid restore of my aosp rom.
reboot.
No dice. Was that the correct procedure?

I believe you have to reboot into sense again before nandroid restore, did you do this? It's been a long time since I did the fix but I used the fresh rom for this process.
I did this fix back on like, nightly 6 and it worked great ever since up through RC2.
--Chris

After dialing ##gpsclrx#, then entering the msl number, the phone automatically rebooted after 10 seconds. I let the sense rom boot up, (koni 2), then went into recovery and nandroid restored the destroyer aosp rom.

When typing in gpsclrx, I'm just typing the numbers that represent the letter, correct? 4772579?

Correct. When you reboot, after inputting that MSL, make sure you verify a GPS lock and even initiate some Navigation for good measure. This is what I did and all worked fine. Some have reported it didn't seem to work but they realized they didn't inititally lock on after the reboot. Then you can flash CM / nand restore.

Thank you so much. I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, hope it works for ya!

I flashed mikfroyo, reset GPS, booted back into mikfroyo, and then opened maps and locked onto my signal, then nandrestore and I had working gps.

This did the trick! Thanks! Gps inaccuracies were the only thing keeping me from sticking with an aosp rom.

1. Download MSL code reader from the market, that gives you your msl code, run it, write it down
2. Backup your current rom
3. Flash a sense rom, don't need to sign in
4. Open the dialer, input##gpsclrx# , enter your 6 digit msl code
5. Restore backup

[q] 4 digit lock pin password changed?

Sorry for the noob question, recently flashed evio 1.7.6 Rom from fresh, complete wipe for data/cache and davlik twice.I got everything setup, then I decided to do a nand backup in amon 1.8 like I have done many times before and after the backup, I boot back in and try to enter in my 4 digit pin (stupid exchange policy) but when I booted in and enter in my pin, it tells me incorrect pw.. after 4th try it booted into amon and wiped data.... then I tried to restore the nand backup I just did, but same thing, my pin was changed during nand backup? Anyone else experience this? Spent 5 hours testing new roms , finally find one and set it up, now this..... TIA

I would get this error when flashing certain mods and rebooting. Try flashing that Rom over your nand.(restore your nand, boot up, go into recovery, flash Rom.) I haven't had it in a while, but I believe last time it occurred, that did the trick.

I've had this happen before on CyanogenMod, a long time ago. When it happens, the only thing I've found to consistently work is a full wipe and reinstall.
Damn. Ill give the restore then flash method. Hopefully that will work , if not then I guess wipe.
Thanks for thwart help!

GPS just not working

Tried everything I can think of:
1. reboot
2. Two different roms with clean format: CM7 and MYN
3. Used GPS Status to clear GPS internal state reset.
Help! =)
Try going to key pad and typing ##4772579#. Worked for me.
Try the gps fix posted in the cm thread a million times?

Well you physically "can" do it in cm, but it won't work, so you have to use it on a sense rom, like myn's, and then flash back.

So I am on Myn's rom, I do the ##GPSCLRX# and nothing happens. after the last # it clears what I just entered. What am I missing??
You should have a prompt come up that says your phone will restart. Once it does you are good to go. What I did was open up navigation to ensure its working on the Sense ROM and then flash over to CM7. Worked for me

You need to use a stock Sense ROM like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874251&highlight=ruu+supersonic
Also, I don't see that anyone mentioned it in this thread but you need to have your MSL. You can get it with the MSL reader app from the market.

Oh... Thanks.
will I have to root again after this? or can I just nandroid back to Myn after the fix?
EDIT: I see the first line of that thread says it is rooted. Yay for reading.

You don't have to be on a stock sense rom. Just ANY sense ROM.
You can do it on Myn's. You don't need to root again. You can restore a nandroid of your CM7 afterward but its better to just reinstall CM7 RC2 from scratch and start over. Make sure you install GAAPS as well.

What am I doing wrong then?
I am on Myn's rom release 5, I open up the phone, press ##4772579, and right after I press # it clears out what I just entered, and nothing happens - can dial more numbers.

yeah if you are using Myn's Z you cannot do it as it is a GSM port and won't know the command.

[Q] cannot change values in ##3282# menu! help!

Im flashing an epic (root, rom, and to cricket from sprint) for a friend of mine and talk work fine but internet is not functioning dispite the 3g symbol being present. when i enter and edit the values (username, ha, etc.) In the ##3282# menu it doesnt reset the phone when through and what ever i changed reverts back to the previous value. I.e., the username remains (customername)@sprint.com. any one have a clue of how to either fix this issue or another way to change the values? Ive tried everything i can think of to no avail. Qpst, cdma workshop, and even tried the multiboot fc09 from the sd. Ive serched this forumas well as several others and cant see3m to find any applicable info.

you need to go back to an older stock rom/modem/kernel combination.. then ##72786# or a ##786# before you start.
the first one wont mess with any "repairs" you may have made previously. but will wipe data settings to factory.
then you should be able to edit those settings at will, and I suggest QPST.

And my advice would be to use stock EC05 (Rom AND modem) or prior. Never had much luck with this sort of project on anything after EC05. Once you're all working, then flash whatever you like. Will need to fix MMS again after flashing a rom.

running last cm9 nightly...still no gps...tried some fixes...

Am running CM9 nightly (9.16) and everything works great except I can't get GPS to lock on..just sits there with "searchign for GPS"...
What I've done so far:
- "GPS Fix" flashed from CWM....no help
- "nexusmodempatchcm9.1" flashed from CWM...no help
- "ns4g-radio-KL2" flashed from CWM...no help
- tried the temporarty boot method here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2r7anSiI5I but that was for the Epic Touch and it didn't work or maybe I didn't do something right....it would just hang and couldn't get into CWM after reboot
- finally Odin'd back to stock, ran the GPS fix from the App store and got GPS to lock
- flashed my saved CM9 image from the day before, downloaded the GPS fix from the App store and still got no GPS lock
Is my image from the day before the problem? I thought the GPS fix done from stock would've carried over to the GPS in CM9...at least that's what I thought was the point of that...
Would just flashing CM9 again work? (but then I'd have to restore my apps from Titanium Backup..also from a day before saved)
*confused*
Thanks
Yes. Your image has bad GPS data. From stock with GPS on and locked flash CM9 and do not restore anything and test GPS.

- if i titanium backup my apps again now, can i restore without a problem since i am backing up from within cm9 and not any cm7 rom

Yes when you Odin to stock you will not have root but you are only testing your GPS. Then leave it on with a lock, Odin cwm 5.0.2.7 with reboot unchecked, when it completes pop battery out and in, 3 finger to CWM and flash CM9 and gapps. Start phone and test GPS. If it works then yes you can restore Titanium Backup stuff but no system data.
GPS works on CM10 without GPS Fix.

This. Went from various Gingerbread updates straight to CM10 mainly for GPS stability actually. Had trouble keeping lock on GPS all the time and used phone heavily for multihour navigation; for like 2 years.... Since CM10 have had 0 issues. It was almost a religious experience.

3G shows but noooo data

I updated my friend's Epic a while back to cm10 but lost data in the process. I have it again giving it another shot but still can't get it to connect for the life of me. The funniest part is that 3G/1x signals will be showing at the top along with the up/down activity arrows but no data is coming through. I've Odin'd a fresh copy of FC09, tried multiple roms including going back to CM9 and still no dice. Any ideas?
Check with sprint to see if something is up. If you went to stock and it still doesn't work you could have a messed up 3G radio.

I just did this to my nephews phone
Figured I'd be the cool guy and upgrade his phone and it looks like it lost all his APN settings. Which weren't backed up because the CM wiki didn't mention it...
So now I'm trying to figure how to get his **** working again. He's got a mostly functional cm10 with the cm10 gapps installed and can make calls and text, it says 3g is connected, that he isn't roaming, shows an ip address in settings but can't browse the internet without Wi-Fi.
And now I feel like a jerk

Seqrch the cm wiki for the sd bootable rom... boot into the sd rom after following the directions for unpacking correctly, once booted, update profile and prl... reboot (this will reboot you back to cm10, not the sd rom) and all should be good again..
Edit- you can also achieve this by flashing a tw mtd rom (check development section, I recommend tpr)... back up cm10 in recovery, wipe everything, flash tw mtd rom, once booted update profile and prl, reboot into recovery and restore backup of cm10... this should fix the issue...
If you flash the CM10 modem patch, you can update profile and prl w/o changing ROMs.
