[Q] cannot change values in ##3282# menu! help! - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im flashing an epic (root, rom, and to cricket from sprint) for a friend of mine and talk work fine but internet is not functioning dispite the 3g symbol being present. when i enter and edit the values (username, ha, etc.) In the ##3282# menu it doesnt reset the phone when through and what ever i changed reverts back to the previous value. I.e., the username remains (customername)@sprint.com. any one have a clue of how to either fix this issue or another way to change the values? Ive tried everything i can think of to no avail. Qpst, cdma workshop, and even tried the multiboot fc09 from the sd. Ive serched this forumas well as several others and cant see3m to find any applicable info.

you need to go back to an older stock rom/modem/kernel combination.. then ##72786# or a ##786# before you start.
the first one wont mess with any "repairs" you may have made previously. but will wipe data settings to factory.
then you should be able to edit those settings at will, and I suggest QPST.

And my advice would be to use stock EC05 (Rom AND modem) or prior. Never had much luck with this sort of project on anything after EC05. Once you're all working, then flash whatever you like. Will need to fix MMS again after flashing a rom.

Incorrect "Build Number" in "About Phone" after flash, why?

I had been running SleeperRom, 1.0.04...but switched back to a modded EL30 stock Sprint rom. After first boot it says GINGERBREADEL30, but then within a days use or so eventually switches to "SleeperRom 1.0.04", the rom itself is still the stock sprint, that is none of the modifications you would expect from the sleeperrom...
...after the switch it tells me to update my phone as expected.
Why is this? I've cleared the cache, delvk, etc. reflashed with the sprint mod rom couple times, etc. but this always happens. Is there something else I should have done?
Thanks!
That's odd.... I'm clueless on why but if your not expierencing any problems with this then what's the big deal? Unless of course you plan on taking it into sprint then you could just odin in the stock el30 package by Toadlife...

It's a good point, it doesn't effect anything, its just annoying because it does prompt for the upgrade, although I could fix that quick enough.
I think I need to wipe everything a couple times and just stock it back up, then root and customize.
Sounds like some data didn't get cleared out. Basically an incomplete flash. You will need to Odin a stock ROM to clear this out.

How do I reset my phone completely ?

Long story short I started off on EK02 and used stfubs methord to root el29. Till this fay I haven't tried ics but I noticed that when I pair my jambox it automatilly connects to the phone as if it's on a call and doesn't stream audio. The only way to get it to work is to make a phone call or just uncheck phone audio under bt settings and just leave media checked. I used thr ek02 no date tar on odin and it unrooted my phone w/o a problem but even on stock el29 the problem remains. I'm on blazer 4.1 and I ttied everything to my knowledge and I still have to use that work around. I also once tried to edit airplane mode to leave bt on but that didn't work and that was a long time ago. Anyway, can anyone please tell me how to reset my phone completely ? Thanks guys
Oh I also tried this “rm -rf /data/misc/bluetoothd/*” but nothing

No problem. Have you tried using sfhubs one click el29 restore? If not give that a try, that's how I go completely back to stock. If you also want to unroot, use sfhubs auto root package. There's an option to unroot in that. All of that can be found with a search. Hope this helps! If u have any questions, feel free to ask!

After using the one click did you do a factory reset? That's about the only thing left to do if you're back to stock. settings/privacy/factory reset
All the system software is reset using that OneClick ODIN pointed to above.
The only other things that might affect your system which you could reset are your Android user data (user installed apps, contacts, calendar, etc.) and NVRAM.
If you want to reset Android user data, do a menu->settings->privacy->factory reset
If you want to reset both Android user data and NVRAM do ##786# reset from the dialer (you'll need your MSL, type getprop ril.MSL in an adb shell)
If you want to reset just the NVRAM do ##72786# reset in dialier, need MSL as above.
These won't reset your /sdcard, but your /sdcard shouldn't be causing issues in this regard. You can just remove the files by hand in the /sdcard if you want to clean that out also.

Power off phone completely and let it charge for a little bit.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229
Read the entire post a few times.
[Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed]
Download the "FF18 full restore One-Click self-extractor"
extract and launch it.
Now
Power on the phone and..
hold Power button + Volume down
Then volume up to enter download mode
Connect the phone via USB to the computer and it should show up on a COM port.
Then click start and hopefully you'll be back to stock rooted.
Then be careful and read a whole lot more.

Not sure what you're trying. I just posted how to completely set you phone to stock FF18. It WILL wipe your data but your phone shoud be good to go with all services.
If you want to use sfhub's EL29 one click the method is the same. But why not get the latest released build.
You may have to to System Settings>System Updates then Update the PRL wait and then update the Profile wait.
It may suck having to re-enter some data but I would think it would suck more to have a phone that didn't work.

It won't reset your prl, aaa, ha keys which are contained in NVRAM.
If you are running CWM, I would boot into recovery, then start adb shell, then mount /system (if necessary) and undo your boot animation change. It is very likely everything is intact, just the boot is prevented from completing due to that change you made.

Ics uses like 10% more on average is the number I've seen thrown around, I get like 18 hours with 3 or 4 hours of screen time on average with 20% left.... you see tons of posts from people complaining about ics battery, ignore these... most of these folks can't be bothered to set up syncs right, kill background tasks that are unnecessary, read the forums, let roms properly settle, recalibrate, etc...

I'm assuming you mean wipe? Yes but it still would not affect your provisioning/network information... it does not get wiped by that... for example I have heavily edited 4g settings (higher entry RX, etc...) and those have been preserved across god knows how many flashes and wipes... lastly is not just ics you need to do a full wipe for, you can try no data flashes but might experance bugs, the reccomended route for every rom I know of is to do a full data wipe when switching from one from to another

3G shows but noooo data

I updated my friend's Epic a while back to cm10 but lost data in the process. I have it again giving it another shot but still can't get it to connect for the life of me. The funniest part is that 3G/1x signals will be showing at the top along with the up/down activity arrows but no data is coming through. I've Odin'd a fresh copy of FC09, tried multiple roms including going back to CM9 and still no dice. Any ideas?
Check with sprint to see if something is up. If you went to stock and it still doesn't work you could have a messed up 3G radio.

Figured I'd be the cool guy and upgrade his phone and it looks like it lost all his APN settings. Which weren't backed up because the CM wiki didn't mention it...
So now I'm trying to figure how to get his **** working again. He's got a mostly functional cm10 with the cm10 gapps installed and can make calls and text, it says 3g is connected, that he isn't roaming, shows an ip address in settings but can't browse the internet without Wi-Fi.

Seqrch the cm wiki for the sd bootable rom... boot into the sd rom after following the directions for unpacking correctly, once booted, update profile and prl... reboot (this will reboot you back to cm10, not the sd rom) and all should be good again..
Edit- you can also achieve this by flashing a tw mtd rom (check development section, I recommend tpr)... back up cm10 in recovery, wipe everything, flash tw mtd rom, once booted update profile and prl, reboot into recovery and restore backup of cm10... this should fix the issue...
If you flash the CM10 modem patch, you can update profile and prl w/o changing ROMs.

Finally got him back over to fix it. Dude has the patience of a saint.
Thanks a ton for the help, this is what fixed it.

Updated PRL/Profile and flashed back to custom rom, now "out of service"

Hi all. After being on AOKP for a while, I decided I wanted to update my PRL and profile. Doing this was a little frustrating, as the original restore for my Sprint ROM was somehow corrupt, so I had to flash a stock Sprint ROM I got from these forums. The frustrating part was when I realized this deleted everything. All nandroid backups, titanium backups - everything. Luckily, this wasn't that big of a deal to me, as I didn't have anything important on my phone I couldn't easily get back.
So I updated my PRL and profile and almost called the police (I later found out that updating the profile does some odd reboot that can call the emergency number). That was all fine. My phone was in service, everything was nice.
(Though, for some odd reason "Activate your phone" or something along those lines was an option on my system menu. If I recall correctly, this was also the case even before I ever flashed a custom ROM. I've already activated my phone and have no issues using mobile data or anything.)
So I root the stock ROM, use Mobile Odin to flash CWM, and then I clear data from CWM and flash AOKP back on it. I install everything I want and it goes well.
I have just noticed that I have no service. At all. My phone number isn't even in the phone status area. "Sprint system updates" is in there, but my phone number isn't and my service state is "Out of service". Why? What is going on? And how do I fix it? This definitely didn't happen the first time I flashed custom ROMs on my phone.
Any help is highly appreciated . Thanks a lot, everyone!
Try this:
First get your MSL, if you dont know how do this:downoad terminal emulator, open dialer and dial ##3282# press edit, type 000000 and hit ok. Now go to terminal emulator and open it up and type getprop ril.MSL and copy the 6 digit code that shows on the next line.
Now go back to dialer and type ##786# select reset and enter your MSL, let it do its thing and auto reboot. Now your signal bars should be back up.
Next you need to reactivate the phone. Go to settings and selctwr activate this device and let it complete. If your phone # and MIN are still missing after HFA is complete go back to the dialer and type ##72786# and select edit then manually input your # and MIN.
Typically MIN is the same as your 10 digit phone# but in the event it isn't you'll need to call CS and ask them to provision your phone which will give you your MIN
Write it down if its different from your phone# cuz this seems to be a fairly common occurrence of the NVdata becoming corrupted after certain flashes. This should get you back up and running tho and if you get the HFA on every boot and chameleon FC error garwynn has a flashable zip that will fix that once you back in service
Disregard this last part I was thinking I was in a different forum lol but the top should get you back working regardless what device your on thats how to manually re provision and reactivate your phone just like youd do if you bought one used

You need to be on a twiz rom. And have to master reset (##786# > reset) first to get the NVdata cleared so it will connect to sprint as a deactivated device and allow you to communicate with their systems to activate it

Thanks a lot! I'll do all this and report back. I just noticed that my nandroids are back. I checked my USB storage after flashing to stock ROM previously and and the folders were there but they were all empty. Now I'm looking at it again from AOKP and all my nandroids are still in tact. That's... quite peculiar. Is it possible I only looked at the folders while unrooted and the folders still showed but the files didn't...?

Maybe depending on what file explorer you were using it couldn't see the file types. I know one of the non root explorers on the market wouldn't see any .img files which is whats contained in a nandroid, basically a snapshot of the filesystems and partitions.

Maybe depending on what file explorer you were using it couldn't see the file types. I know one of the non root explorers on the market wouldn't see any .img files which is whats contained in a nandroid, basically a snapshot of the filesystems and partitions.

I see. I was checking from my PC via a USB connection, though I can't remember if I checked when I was rooted or not.
Anyway, I backed up, wiped data, and flashed it. Rebooted. Boots to Samsung logo then goes black. The Sprint animation isn't coming up.
I got into recovery and it's still CWM 6. I'm clearing data again and reflashing it...
Update: No change, samsung logo then black screen. I'm flashing the "Odexed No Data Wipe Zip" FYI.

Did you check the md5sum to make sure the DL was good? Also did you make sure to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache. You may need to use the wipe data version so it has a data partition to restore. No datas you should only wipe cache and dalvik so your /data partition stays intact. You could always restore a nandroid and then flash again only wiping cache and dalvik

MD5 checks out. I did indeed do a wipe data/factory reset (which also clears cache) and I cleared dalvik cache prior to flashing. Flashing seemed to go through without issue. I'm restoring nandroid now. You suggest I get the data wipe one and wipe cache+dalvik and try again?
Update: After restoring my nandroid, I have service again somehow lol. It was indeed the same nandroid I just created when I had absolutely no service. I guess I don't need to do any of this. Quite... odd. But I am definitely able to get 3G and service and what-not, and my phone status is checking out fine.

No problem I did this same thing to my Note 2 23 days after I got it and had to figure it out on my own. I spent 7 hrs trying all kinds of rom flashes and messing with stuff then I master reset and reactivated and wanted to kick my own ass for not trying that first and wasting 7hrs of xmas eve screwing with sh*t for no reason.

Please excuse me for bumping a very old thread, but where in the system would this NVdata be? My phone has the same issue as OP, but none of my backups will flash properly. I do have all the files though, and have opened them on my computer. I can transfer them the old fashion way, but I'm not sure where the file is. Mind helping me out?

It would be in your EFS backup if you're using TWRP. That backup contains parts of the information that is hard coded to the specific chips(eMMC, Radios, SoC, Logic board, etc) as long as the EFS backup is intact it should point the identifiers back to the right places. However, you could also have a partitioning issue which would require a full stock tar flash with the proper PIT file to repartition the device and unmask the identifiers that are currently hidden(IMEI, DEC, HEX, MIN, Phone Number, etc.)
