I updated my friend's Epic a while back to cm10 but lost data in the process. I have it again giving it another shot but still can't get it to connect for the life of me. The funniest part is that 3G/1x signals will be showing at the top along with the up/down activity arrows but no data is coming through. I've Odin'd a fresh copy of FC09, tried multiple roms including going back to CM9 and still no dice. Any ideas?
Check with sprint to see if something is up. If you went to stock and it still doesn't work you could have a messed up 3G radio.

I just did this to my nephews phone
Figured I'd be the cool guy and upgrade his phone and it looks like it lost all his APN settings. Which weren't backed up because the CM wiki didn't mention it...
So now I'm trying to figure how to get his **** working again. He's got a mostly functional cm10 with the cm10 gapps installed and can make calls and text, it says 3g is connected, that he isn't roaming, shows an ip address in settings but can't browse the internet without Wi-Fi.
And now I feel like a jerk

Seqrch the cm wiki for the sd bootable rom... boot into the sd rom after following the directions for unpacking correctly, once booted, update profile and prl... reboot (this will reboot you back to cm10, not the sd rom) and all should be good again..
Edit- you can also achieve this by flashing a tw mtd rom (check development section, I recommend tpr)... back up cm10 in recovery, wipe everything, flash tw mtd rom, once booted update profile and prl, reboot into recovery and restore backup of cm10... this should fix the issue...
If you flash the CM10 modem patch, you can update profile and prl w/o changing ROMs.

My phone will detect Wifi, and try to connect, but will never connect. It just finds it, goes to "connecting," then "disconnected," then "connecting," then "disconnected," etc.
What did I screw up on my phone? I've tested Wifi using Fresh, CM7, Caulkin's, and the leaked plain gingerbread.
I've flashed 2 different kernels, each has the same result. Not to mention that some of the roms have different kernels already.
I've also downgraded my radio just to see if that would help.
What could I possibly have messed up? I don't get it.
Obviously, I've spent a lot of time like this, and I am, quite honestly, literally insane at this point.
Any help is appreciated.
Later.
Could it be your router that's going bad and not your phone??
Also, try placing a stock sprint rom and go from there
I ran into this as well before with my current ROM Mikfroyo.. the trick for me was just to back up my apps and wipe/reinstall the ROM. If you backup more, be sure to NOT backup the Wifi settings as that may cause the issue to happen again (I've been down this road more than once with my phone because I'm a flashing junkie )
That's the only suggestion I can offer.. sucks but at least for me it fixed my issues with Wifi not connecting.
Good luck!
--edit--
after reading deeper into the OP I guess this might not work as it seems flashing new ROMs didn't help either..

I don't think so, because at home my wireless printer still works, and I can connect an iPad.
I'll flash a stock rom tonight.

I have been using Titanium backup to restore settings, that is a good point. Maybe tonight I'll re-install the router, remove all apps from the Apps2SD, flash a stock ROM, then manually re-install all of the apps from a market.
Sounds like a good Friday night. Blehhh.....
If your using cwm to flash wipe all 3 times each then when you restore apps do apps only not system data. Somewhere your introducing info back into the rom that's confusing it.did you back up your wimaxx keys before you flashed your radio?

No, but cwm and RA both do that for you now, right? Plus, I can still connect to 4G, so the wimax keys should be there.
But that's a question I can't find the answer to- does the radio have anything to do with connecting to WiFi?
Well cwm doesn't do a good job at cleaning dalvik cache. You've got to manualy wipe 3 times to make sure. Your not using rom manager are you? What version of clockeork you using?

I use ROM manager. What's wrong with it?
I'm using 3.0.0.5
Don't use rom managet it causes to many problems. Go into recovery and wipe system data facrory reset, then go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache 3 times each then flash your rom. Your issues will go away.

You should go into rom manager and flash other recovery re. That's amon re its more stable than cwm.

Sounds more like your wireless router is the issue. Just because your other devices connect, doesn't rule out your router. Try to connect to a different wireless router and see if that works.
i am also having this same issue, and i cant find an answer to it.. but i will try giving it a shot with amon ra recovery and manually clearing dalvik cache n data.
Hey Sprockethead try using this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339654, it's known to work for a LOT of people here... Like the others have mentioned I think it might have to do something with not wiping properly... You can still flash your CWM recoveries with this one.
Ive tried 3 times to switch to mtd heres my steps I must be doing something wrong please point it out for me.
Step 1: odin to deodexed/rooted ec05
Step 2: eco5 modem to ei22 converted
step 3: upgrade to newest cwm5
step 4: Wipe data/cache/delvik 3x
step 5: Install MTD Clean rom/ Also tried CM7
Outcome: first seems fine restarts back to cwm5 Im assuming that means its converted to mtd? (should i reflash rom after restart to cwm5?) Then I reboot system and the screen just stays black nothing happens waited forever forceing me to odin again and repeat the steps with no luck over and over again. I have also tried installing clean rom + a different MTD Kernal. Still just a black screen buttons lit up and no sign of life I waited nearly half an hour leaving the phone like this and nothing happened.
Odin is a pain it takes 5 failured to reodin I figured id ask the pros since i want MTD and need to figure this out. Please tell me im missing something obvious and make it a simple solution lol Thanks for your help.
When you flash an MTD ROM, the phone will restart during the flash and should reboot and continue to install. Once that is done it should say install successful in CWM. Is it doing that?
I install in cwm5 it shuts off reboots back to cwm5 and thats it at that point i find myself lost and reboot to system and get black screen. Do my steps look right nothing special i have read all comments and see no issues so i feel pretty slow because i never have these problems and couldnt find a similar one.
If it helps me explain better when i installed CM7 I got as far as the CM7 loading screen and then it froze. So I tried to wipe then install clean MTD to see if it would load either and got black screen right after CM7 logo......Ill try again in a minute I just want someones help first before I try again. Then i will post new info about my issue if it continues and we can figure out what im missing.
When you odin you says it fails? You need a better cable also you converted to mtd but it won't boot so when you go back to stock you need to repartition so have that checked. Also don't go back to stock rooted go back to official stock ec05 not anything but that please. Then once done flash in a custom recovery and flash the ei22 modem conversion and finally wipe data cache and dalvik *once* and flash the mtd rom. Then it will reboot almost half way through and then it should say install complete and it will reboot your system.

Ok ive tried it all nothing helps reflashed on MTD even still boots back to cw5.
I did however download from the xda app I seen some threads on this. Is it possible thats the reason? I usually download roms from it and they work fine but my 16gb is running low. Im going to try again from a laptop download then transfew to microsd on sd adapter and see. I tried it all how do i check md5?
Also i was trying to flash cm710 so im not sure if that has a issue but ill try not downloading from XDA app because im really tired of starting from scratch with this phone. sm7 i see boot logo and resets to cwm5 Clean MTD i see only black screen and it resets to cwm5.

It was probably some bad downloads. If you want to try CM7 I only was able to get it to flash with a Factory Data reset prior to flashing it. You should grab one of the nightlies from 10 and up with the working 4G toggle.
Well i was dedicated to resolving this after realizing sleeperrom mtd and Marcusant MTD had broken wifi when 4g was enabled. So yeah i resolved the issue by downloading with dolphin browser mini worked like a charm for some reason that browser is the only reliable one for me to download roms. Switched to clean gb 4g wifi hotspot is perfect. Also if anyone knows if hotspot with 4g is broken in cm7 mtd what tether app with 4g tether will work with an epic?

Working copy of wireless tether for cm7 > http://db.tt/Q6n9nOge
Open and before you start the tether change the first two settings... 1. Change to epic 4g... 2. Change to softap... I use this on EVERY ROM I run... turn on 4g after the app starts up...

This has already been stated over 100 times in the cm10 dev thread. you should probably go look over there dude.
Seriously? I couldn't find it -_- well that's great this is my dads phone too, so now I gotta go back down to cm10 -_-
Heads up going back to cm10.... Restore from a backup if possible. If you just flash using a cm10 zip and 4.1 gapps you may get an AOSP keyboard FC loop. Only way around that, if it happens, is to reflash stock with ODIN, do a factory reset and then flash cm10.
This has happened to several people, myself included, I just used my TWRP backups and it worked perfectly.
Side Note: If using TWRP restore, you will need to use the built in file manager and copy your /sdcard/0/TWRP folder back to /sdcard/TWRP. 4.2.1 modified the directory structure to make way for multi user support.

Hello.
So I'm really new to all this Android custom ROMs and OS stuff. Loved the noobie video. Back when Sprint did their OTA of Gingerbread I was one of the lucky ones with the messed up GPS. I rooted. A friend recommended the CM10 custom ROM. So me knowing not much about it and he has more time to read/ do stuff with his phone, I did it. Didn't LOVE it, but it was nice.
Last night I get a OTA and in a middle of the night wake up for water daze just let the phone do its update. Now I'm @ CM 10.1.0 and I have lost ALL of my contacts, Text messages still show up but NONE have names. My google emails and the Play store do not work. I get a "clock has stopped working" screen every now and again, I'm also not getting ANY push notifications from any other apps.
I have not seen these issues listed yet.
If this is a known issue and I'm just not searching the right key words, please please point me in the right direction. I need this phone to work right.
I'm lost and I know no one local with an Epic.
I'm not sure what I need to list as far as version numbers or kernel numbers. If they are needed, let me know and I'll provide.
Thanks in advance.
From what I can see, you lost everything in an OTA from CM10 to CM10.1 and everything went bizarre, is that right? Then just download a clean CM10.1 package and THOROUGH WIPE (cache, data, system) and flash.
But keep in mind that this will clear out all your SMS, contacts, etc.
Sent from HTC Incredible S @ PACman v21
all of my apps were still there. But when I try to use Gmail or the Google Play store I get the "clock has stopped" pop up.
- No Contacts (no way to get to them either)
- No sync/ updating
- "clock has stopped" message
- No notifications from apps (Instagram, Facebook)
I DO get my NON gemail mail though.
I have the SMS backup/restore and all my contacts in saved to Google so wiping anything I'm okay with. But how do I get a "clean" version 10.1.0?
I'd assume I use the "stable' version over the nightly one?
I see a lot of people going back to 10 but I don't know how to do that.
http://get.cm/?device=epicmtd is where you get the CM10 & 10.1 zips. Recent CM10.1 nightlies are reported to have problems so stable build and M2 are recommended. Also, Bluetooth is wonky on all 4.2.x (in this case, CM10.1) ROMs so CM10 is the choice if you want it. Full wipe and flash. Reboot and good to go. Though I don't know whether restoring an SMS/contact backup works or not... Try for yourself!

Okay, well it looks like I just put it back to CM10. But there is NO Gmail Icon or Google Play Store Icon. I cannot remember how I did the SMS restore w/out the app. So I am back with a reflashed phone and NO info.

I heard @qbking77 has some awesome tutorial videos that guides you through installing CWM recovery and else. My steps here are:
1) Odin stock FC19 (or FC09)
2) Odin CWM 5.0.2.7 tar
3) Reboot to recovery via 3-key combination, wipe data and SYSTEM (!) and flash what you want

Before I backed up my stock rom and flashed my current one (PACman) I updated my profile just to make sure that I was good to go for a while.
Does the profile updates/PRL updates done in stock stay once you wipe everything and flash a new rom? I'm wondering because I don't get quite the signal strength that I did in PACman that I did on stock and I have no way of updating my profile inside of PACman. But, if profile updates don't stick after a wipe, what good does it do to go back & forth?
I really wish a dev would come out with an apk for each major carrier to update profiles.
Yes it does stay. When changing modems you should update again though.

I just recently installed a JB 4.2.2 ROM from rootbox and have been unable to get my profile to update, so in turn have been unable to connect to 3G. Well, I just flashed my recovery and it won't boot past the S2 logo now. Did I miss something?
Okay, more questions!
I tried restoring my nandroid I made after rooting/kernel/ICS modem and it appears to restore correctly in CWM and then it won't get past the S2 splash screen. I did it first without wiping/factory reset and it was a no go, and then I was duh...and wiped/factory reset then restored the stock nandroid...still no go.
What am I doing wrong? In the meantime, I just restored a PACman nandroid and that went just fine and I can use my phone again.
I've been trying to find the answer myself, but the only thing I've found is that the stock recovery has to be restored on the same version of CWM it was created on. How do I do this since CWM updated itself to v6?

You flashed the EL26+CWM kernel to make the original nandroid correct? then just flash that kernel (with PC or mobile odin, doesn't matter) and then restore the nandroid.
BUT, you can skip this if you want to stay on PACman. @bilgerryan has an app somewhere in the forum that attempts to add the sprint update functionality back in to AOSP. Almost everything is broken (including PRL write and Update PRL OTA), but Profile update works without a hitch.
ALSO, take a look at the gps link in my sig. I have a link in my OP there for how to set up multiboot on the Epic Touch. That way you can multiboot into EL29 to do things like GPS lock, PRL update, Profile update, dialer codes, etc.

Okay. Yeah, i want to stay on PACman but only need to update my profile to help my signal. Okay, I will try to find that app. My PRL is up-to-date so yeah...all I need to do is update my profile, but I'm with Virgin mobile. However, I did flash the FL24 modem (sprint). This will update my profile with VM?
I decided to just try your first fix where I reflash the EL26+CWM5 kernel and flash stock nandroid. After I'm done updating things and want to go back to PACman...I simply reflash the PACman zip (to get back my PACman specific kernel) and once restore flash a backup to get all my apps & things back, right?

Well, that didn't work for me. :/ I reflashed the EL26+CWM5 kernel in mobile odin and then restored the stock nandroid. This gave me the S2 splash screen and just sat there. So, I guess I have to find that app you spoke of.
Okay, I found it, and followed all of the instructions to the "T" and when I click on Sprint System Updates, it simply makes a phone call to Sprint with a voice menu. :/
Update: Okay, I see it is also in the app drawer, but the only thing that currently works is the MSL retrieval.
Sigh...
Download the kernel or the rom and just flash over your restore. Your eecovery is bundled with a gingerbread kernel. So the backup you made is trying to run a gingerbread kernel. Wont work. If you flash the rom over your nandroid it will boot. You will have all system setting restored though. It sucks. But it worka.

I'm feeling a bit dumb now...
I don't quite understand the first part of what you are saying. I do understand that my nandroid cannot run without the GB kernel I made it with. So, I did reflash the GB kernal with mobile odin and then went into CWM and restored the nandroid...still didn't work.
Am I misunderstanding?
Yes. After restoring the nandroid flash whatever rom you were on again. Do not wipe. So I believe you are restoring pacman. After your restore pacman. Use the same recovery, and flash the same pacman rom again. Basically you just need the pacman kernel. Not sure if there is a aseperate kernel somewhere. But flashing the rom over top without wiping anything will restore the kernel back to what its supposed to be.

Oh. Hmmm. But I made the stock nandroid with the EL26 kernel. I don't need that one in order to successfully recover my stock nandroid?
I think we are talking about two different things. I am NOT able to restore my stock nandroid. It gets stuck at the S2 splash screen.
Okay, new approach...
