[Q] Witch kernel and radio for Redux - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've recently rootet my Desire, and flashed Redux. Extremely happy so far, but my batterylife is not the best (slightly worse than with stock rom). I have not changed kernel or radio. So here are my quesitons:
- Wich radio is recomended for this rom?
- If I for any reason choose to go back to stock rom, do I have to change radio and kernel? Or can I still use the modified one?

im not too sure on witch is recommended as ive been using cm7 but once u flash a radio, it stays in your phone till u use your providers ruu file which deletes everything and brings it back to the point of which u bought it. kernels change on every rom u use.

Radio included or not ?

Hello a noob question for you guys.
I see some custom ROMS (if not every one) says that you have to have a certain radio version or newer.
then again I see stock ROMS often has a radio version in the file name.
Does that mean that the stock ROMS include the proper radio ? and that i dont need to find a radio seperately ?
thanks
Yes, stock roms such as this RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe include an associated radio also.
If you flash a custom rom from the stock rom, you will always have the default stock radio version (e.g. 32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11) installed unless you flash a newer radio rom yourself.
You will find that the selection of custom roms will be without radio versions, and the OP will normally provide links to the recommended radio versions that will work with that associated rom, for performance and functionality purposes.
thank you for helpfull info
another one for you
if i want to downgrade to stock sometime, wil the "old" version of the radio overwrite the newer one i might have installed with a custom ROM ?

If you flash back to a stock rom with the radio version included, then you will also have stock rom and radio installed. The rom image and radio image will be replaced to stock firmware.
You could even flash the stock radio rom individually, list of stock radio's here:

No problem bud
Quick question leading on from this...if you flash a new radio, does it delete all your apps and settings like when you flash a new rom, or do they survive?
Cheers.

No, the radio is written to a seperate part of the device, and does not interfere with the OS portion.

[SOLVED] ROM or Radio first?

Hi there.
Erm.. this is kinda weird question, say that the ROM that you wish you flash requires a different radio from your current one, will you actually flash the new radio first then only the ROM?
Or you will flash ROM then only radio. Will there be any impact?
ROM first.
9 times in 10 it won't make any difference but there's a chance a ROM might replace the radio anyway.
Thanks Mr_JMM!
I think it doesn't matter..You only need to match your libhtc-ril and radio....

Yes, ROM first.
Mods: This thread can be marked solved and closed now I think.
However....
SOME ROMs when going from certain radio's to certain radio's have had reports that it is better to flash the radio before the ROM.
This seems to have cropped up with the latest GB Sense ROM's.
So I take it back, as a rule of thumb, flash ROM first, I still stand by that, however, check with the ROM first but be aware such things are usually buried deep in a thread and maybe something that gets fixed with later updated versions of that ROM.
Again. ROM first but when a brand new ROM comes out, specifically the new GB Sense ROM's, check the first 5-10 pages.
At time of post, LeeDroid's ROM v3.0.0 is one such ROM that might work better with Radio flashed first.
My apologies but this info is very very recent.
OK, that could make sense. Thought I stepped in deep doo-doo earlier, but rocked back to life with the nan backup. Scared me all to hell, but I might try flashing the radio, then LeeDroid. When coming from CM7 rc3 - It froze on boot.
I did radio first them ROM and had no issues.

Why stock when custom runs better and is nicer?
Sounds like you want a new rom, but still a little stock...
Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
You can find rooted stock roms, but also stock looking custom roms.
Take a look, search a little, compare a few roms... flash one and see if you like it or not.

[Q] Any such thing as *fully* working ICS/JB + Sense4 ROM?

Hi Everyone,
Long time listener, first time caller.
Over the last couple of months, I have tried virtually every ROM I can get my hands on for my DHD, and I always do a full wipe (format) of /system, /data, /cache, Dalvik, and .android_secure before install.
The only ICS ROM I can get working fully is Blackout, but it is Sense 3.6.
I have tried Viper, and *really* like it, but Bluetooth is broken (in 1.2.0, .1, .2, and .3)
That seems to be the case for me with Sense 4 ROMs (lite or full); if Bluetooth works, then WiFi is broken. If WiFi works, then Bluetooth is broken.
ROMs I've tried (latest):
Viper
Miui
Jellytime
ARHD
Blackout (S3.6, which is where I'm at b/c it works)
IceCold
IceSense
CosmicSandwich
Sabsa
codefireX
Kernels I've tried (various releases up to latest):
Beastmode
KangBang
Virtuous
So, I'd like to know if there is such a thing as a fully-working ICS/JB ROM with Sense 4? I cant seem to find one. W/o Bluetooth and WiFi, nothing can be considered a "daily driver", imo... especially w/o Bluetooth, if you know what I mean.
Thanks!
I'm baffled; all of those ROMs should have both BT and wifi fully working. What's your recovery and version?
EDIT: and what's your radio?

Same here, bluetooth is one of the few things that ALWAYS work (except for 4.2.1, but that's expected).
Are you wipping between flashes ?
Thanks for the replies, guys.
As I outlined above, yes, I am fully wiping b/t ROM installs - even restores - please see my method in first post.
I am using ClockworkMod Recovery (HBoot for booting) and have paid for ROM Manager, which entitles me to further updates to CWM than what is available on Play. I currently have 5.8.1.5 installed (CWM Touch).
The radio varies from ROM to ROM it seems, and I should have documented which version in each ROM, but right now, in Blackout, it is reporting 12.56.60.25P_26.10.04.03_M. <--- That number stays consistent, afaik, but the first letter will change (U and T, iirc).
When I say that Bluetooth doesnt work, specifically what happens is that it either doesnt pair with any device, or if it does pair, no sound will be transmitted or the pairing will only last for a second, maybe two seconds at most.
Deleted.
Sent from a dream.
The radio shouldn't be changing with each ROM unless you change it. But with that said, nothing seems out of the ordinary. You could try reflashing your radio manually? Other than that I'm out of ideas.

I dont know much about that, but with that said, I just re-flashed Viper 1.2.3 and my radio now reads:
12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M, which is different than it was above with Blackout.
I have not tried re-flashing my radio manually. I wouldnt know which one would give me a better chance of success...

Once I flash a new ROM, the kernel and the radio are the same I had or the new ROM comes with its own kernel and radio?
Thanks in advance
roms do not come with radios tho they do have their own kernels. Radios are region based not rom based so there is no rom specific radio just what works best in your area.

Thanks for the explanation. So, if I bought my mobile in Spain, the radio is different if I had bought, for example in France?
depends on how close they are to each other whether same service is used in Spain as in France or if they are totally two different service. I would Google the carrier you use then see what radio they shipped with. Even in the radio thread you may find an answer to which radio is good for you in the area your at.

you have tried almost every rom except for the ( pacman rom v18 ) its a jelly bean 4.1.2 based rom , i am stuck with it , every thing is working perfectly ( wifi , bluetooth , camera .... etc )
with some common tweaks i get an excellent battery life ,its even better than it was in the stock gingerbread rom ...
by the way , its non-sense rom

No Signal After Flash

Hey guys, I try to do my research before posting (this is my first post) but I am stuck on this one.
I have:
PrimoU
Llior's CM9 Rom
Titanium Kiss kernel (ICS)
on Koodo (Canadian Provider)
Problem:
I was running the latest Hellboy kernel, but noticed I had better GPS signal with KISS, so I flashed back to KISS to see if It improved the GPS. It did, but now I have no service! I tried restoring to my last Nandroid, but still have the same problem.
WiFi works, but I have no cellular network connection. This is my daily use device so I would love to get some help on this one if anyone has some ideas. For now I am stuck texting on my old optimus one.
Confused!
Thanks in advance!

Well, like it's on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757323 for CM9, DONT FLASH THE BOOT.IMG INSIDE THE ZIP, and later, use Maxwen... - and that's a http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954967
Also, on the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765687, it is almost in the first row: IMPORTANT for CM users
If you want to use CM or a CM based ROM choose the correct kernel! CM9 needs a different ramdisk."
On DL web page: http://www.mediafire.com/?lo2ctaplonbdh you'll see a lot of kernels for CM9 - it's not always the latest on that will work with your phone. Try them...
Just courious - why are you on CM9?
I made sure not to flash the boot.img from inside the zip and always ensured I used a CM9 kernel which I flashed before installing a rom. I ran CM9 with the KISS kernel originally as it was what was recommended at the time. Upgraded to HELLBOY to try out new kernel features but reverted to see if the GPS worked any differently. (Tangent: It SEEMED to be better with KISS, but i could be wrong...)
I like CM9 for the stability and less glitchy video/pano modes, which I use often.
I have since gone back to square one.
Tried CM10 with CM10 hellboy. No signal
Tried CM9 with CM9 hellboy. No Signal.
I'm at a loss as to what could be the problem...

I don't know to much about other carriers, but does your phone require a sim?
Yes. It requires a sim.
Tried the sim in my old p500. Sim card works.
Power off the phone and remove the sim for some time(10~15mins).
It always works for me
Or,there may be a problem in the sim slot.

Thanks. Tried that, but no luck.
There is no way I could have messed with the radio or baseband by flashing a kernel, is there?

One more thing that you can try:
- flash stock rom
If you don't have signal with stock rom, might be hardware failure. If you still have warranty, just go and replace it...
