Radio included or not ? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello a noob question for you guys.
I see some custom ROMS (if not every one) says that you have to have a certain radio version or newer.
then again I see stock ROMS often has a radio version in the file name.
Does that mean that the stock ROMS include the proper radio ? and that i dont need to find a radio seperately ?
thanks

Yes, stock roms such as this RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe include an associated radio also.
If you flash a custom rom from the stock rom, you will always have the default stock radio version (e.g. 32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11) installed unless you flash a newer radio rom yourself.
You will find that the selection of custom roms will be without radio versions, and the OP will normally provide links to the recommended radio versions that will work with that associated rom, for performance and functionality purposes.

thank you for helpfull info
another one for you
if i want to downgrade to stock sometime, wil the "old" version of the radio overwrite the newer one i might have installed with a custom ROM ?

If you flash back to a stock rom with the radio version included, then you will also have stock rom and radio installed. The rom image and radio image will be replaced to stock firmware.
You could even flash the stock radio rom individually, list of stock radio's here:

thanks for your help

No problem bud

Quick question leading on from this...if you flash a new radio, does it delete all your apps and settings like when you flash a new rom, or do they survive?
Cheers.

No, the radio is written to a seperate part of the device, and does not interfere with the OS portion.

Flashing a custom (OS) rom doesn't change the radio.
Stock ROM packages (at least some, like the T-MoUSA WM6.5) include a radio-rom and this over-writes your existing radio-rom.
That was a fast reply thx. so as long as it is not a carrier's stock rom, no radio change?

No doubt somebody else can give a more definite answer than I can...but AFAIK that's typically the way it is. I've flashed custom ROMs by at least 6 different cooks and none of them have included radio-roms.

The handful of ROMs I've investigated are all the same, no radio included. IF there are any ROMs that have a specific radio included, I'm sure it would be clearly mentioned in the thread for that ROM.
Having the freedom to flash radios separately from the rest of the ROM is one of the many things that make the TP2 as wonderfully flexible as it is

Radio & kernel

hi everyone,
i have question which to be cleared.
if i install Custome Rom will it change my Radio?
if my radio changed, will i able to revert back to original radio?
thank you
No, by installing a custom rom, it will not change your radio version.
You can flash to another radio version and flash back to stock/another radio if it does not work as well for you.
Here's the link for the different radio versions:

[SOLVED] ROM or Radio first?

Hi there.
Erm.. this is kinda weird question, say that the ROM that you wish you flash requires a different radio from your current one, will you actually flash the new radio first then only the ROM?
Or you will flash ROM then only radio. Will there be any impact?
ROM first.
9 times in 10 it won't make any difference but there's a chance a ROM might replace the radio anyway.
Thanks Mr_JMM!
I think it doesn't matter..You only need to match your libhtc-ril and radio....

Yes, ROM first.
Mods: This thread can be marked solved and closed now I think.
However....
SOME ROMs when going from certain radio's to certain radio's have had reports that it is better to flash the radio before the ROM.
This seems to have cropped up with the latest GB Sense ROM's.
So I take it back, as a rule of thumb, flash ROM first, I still stand by that, however, check with the ROM first but be aware such things are usually buried deep in a thread and maybe something that gets fixed with later updated versions of that ROM.
Again. ROM first but when a brand new ROM comes out, specifically the new GB Sense ROM's, check the first 5-10 pages.
At time of post, LeeDroid's ROM v3.0.0 is one such ROM that might work better with Radio flashed first.
My apologies but this info is very very recent.
OK, that could make sense. Thought I stepped in deep doo-doo earlier, but rocked back to life with the nan backup. Scared me all to hell, but I might try flashing the radio, then LeeDroid. When coming from CM7 rc3 - It froze on boot.
I did radio first them ROM and had no issues.

ROM Question

So here is a question that I cannot find the answer to. If a ROM like Android Revolution HD is based off the 1.29.401.12 Firmware and I have a 1.29.707.11 based phone, can I install the ROM? I know I would have to unlock and install a custom recovery, but is it possible? I ask because I thought I read somewhere you cant mix firmware updates (ie x.xx.401.xx and x.xx.707.xx) without S-Off or it would cause problems.
Thanks in advance!!

There should be no problem to install latest ARHD ROM. I did it many times coming from stock with different numbers. Any way most of your stock files are reflashed by ROM files. ARHD is universal ROM for any HOX Internatioanal versions.
Since you are replacing the whole firmware, the version of the one you are replacing should not matter.
However, make sure that the new ROM has support for your specific hardware!

Thanks, I shall try the ROM this weekend or next!!
