One Dead Pixel... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, I have a dead pixel, or stuck not sure what the correct terminology is. Anyway, it is only noticeable when the screen is black or a dark blue. I have run jscreenfix, a free pixel massager found in the market with no luck. I AM within my 30 days BUT is it worth the risk of getting a hardware 0004, I currently have a Hardware 0003 with the new partitions I am happy with my phone besides the dead pixel, will more start popping up? My guess is this came with the phone, it just took me a few to notice it. Am I whining over nothing, or should I reoplace and risk more dead pixels, and Hardware 0004 (heard 0003 is better than 0004, could be wrong about that?)
Thanks

Personally, I would take a 004 over a 003 with a dead pixel any day. You will just have to figure out for yourself if it bothers you enough. Based on your post, it looks like it will bother you, so just go get it replaced. Just because there is one dead pixel, doesn't mean more will start dying though.
I am pretty sure the 004 hardware issues have been all figured out for the most part.

Get it fixed now while you are in your 30 days, before the problem gets worse or more annoying. If you wait even 1 day after that 30 days, you will get a refurb that's probably in much worse shape then your current phone. You paid a lot of money for the best phone sprint offers, dont settle for a bad screen.
And dont worry about the hardware versions. They are exactly the same.

My girlfriend's EVO has a dead pixel too. It bugs the hell out of me. Lol. She doesn't mind it though. I would replace it...

DANG!
I was just logging back in to post that I will deal with it. But call and let sprint know about the dead pixel in-case something happens in near future. I have the white back Evo, I turned it into a black one with OME from e-bay. I wonder if they will give me crap about that one screw having the sticker off it. probably not as long as I bring it in black and let them take the parts off and put the white back on it. Yeah I bought it Feb. 27th for $355 by the time I got a rubber case and screen protectors, minus $100 in a few months, frickin rebates! Looks easy enough to un-root, gonna call and make sure they even have a new one in stock
Wait, first I better flash to stock and make sure that pixel is still dead with stock rom
Yes, dead pixel is there in recovery, so its definitely not rom related, I guess the worst part is the location. it is in my clock and I use a dark clock via Beautiful widgets...
OK after reading I have jumped the gun. I do not have a "dead" pixel, I have a "stuck" pixel. Is everyones thought still the same, return it? I will run that massager again to see if it help un-stick it, but I dont think it will

[Q] Q on replacement phone Hardware V2

Sprint recently sent me a replacement EVO due to mass amounts of dust under screen. Old was hardware 3, new is hardware 2. Everything seems about the same, but on the new replacement, I noticed there is minimal light leakage around the phone. It's only visible at night, and really not an annoyance.
My main question is, does the issue stay pretty consistent, or does it get worse over time? Searches haven't revealed anything to helpful.
Also on a side note, I went to try the new root process, but checked boot loader first, and it came to me s-off. Nice. =)
The very first phone I had got worse over a 2 week period, way worse, almost to the point of the screen coming completely off. The evo I have now has a very very slight leakage, and hasnt gotten any worse in 8 months.
So I guess it's up to you. Personally, I would have them ship you another one, you never know if it will get worse down the line, and then they wont exchange it. Now that you just got it, they should exchange it with no questions asked.

EVO hardware question

Thinking of returning my 3d in for the original. Have to decide soon because of what people have been talking about. I had a he rev 0003 want to know what is mainly different since I will get a new hw rev with my old one I could do what ever I wanted to I even unrooted the revolutionary method to s on with unrevoked by a trick which I heard he 0004 may not work old phone gone so have no choice but to get a new one so in short will a new rev harm me more than help me I hate the EVO 3d so much so that I don't even like to turn it on. Not to mention the added expended of a new case and new car mount kit thanks for your help
The only real difference in 0003 and 0004 was they changed the camera, so you'll be fine no matter which version you get.
They did? Is it a good or bad thing?

You can root and un-root fine on 0004 thats what my hardware is you should be just fine

it one of those things that is good or just... not bad
The only thing regarding hardware would be the screen that your Evo has. My old Evo had an epson and now I have a novatec. IMO the novatec screen is brighter and my epson was dimmer, slightly. I do have the light leak at the bottom of my display, but I could care less.
That's another reason I hate my 3d. The light bleeds into the search capacitive button not to mention dead pixels. I worked in the lcd business so dead pixels bug me more than most people I returned a psp once for a dead pixel. Where I worked anything under 4 dead pixels would pass for shipping.which i think was bad practice

Wow...you guys still ship the product knowing there's dead pixels...but yea, I cannot tolerate any dead pixels. The light bleeding below isn't that big of a deal cuz I have a case and it's got it covered. Plus I'm afraid to return it and get a replacement and it being a refurbished one.
With me I have a new contract so if I want to dump my 3d I'm still under 30 days I loved my og EVO but it almost hurts that is be downgrading everything is harder with the 3d if you have a zip image on root of SD wether you want to flash or not it restats phone so if you flash a recovery it makes you reboot if you don't flash and its there you reboot

Gotta question...

So this lovely refurbished phone I recently received from best buy is going completely bat **** insane on me... This has to be the longest I've used it without it acting like I'm touching the screen and making it do just about anything and everything you can imagine...
My question is this... I haven't rooted this phone yet... Mainly because I don't see the point in it if the phone is gonna be acting crazy all the time anyways. Would this problem be hardware related or software related??? Would rooting it actually help it or even make a difference??? Should I just bring it back to best buy and roll the dice on another refurbished phone???
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you would be so kind as to explain a little more on the issues, but from what little you've stated sounds more like hardware. Why not just go drop it off at a Sprint store have them look at it and see what they say? if the screen is jumping from one home screen to another, hitting random keys, entering random apps, then its the touchscreen. if nothing of that happens, might just be software glitch. *#*#3424#*#* is a way to test your physical hardware, hit the line drawing test and if it skips any part of the screen it'll be your screen. i would then take it to a sprint S&R store, have them replace the screen and POOF! issue resolved. hope this helps.

So i tried the line drawing test and of course... It passed with flying colors. The jumping from home screen to home screen and hitting random keys and apps is exactly what this phone is doing... but it's kind of intermittent. Like I said the line test went fine, but once it starts goin nuts again, I wont even be able to enter the numbers to get to the line test, let alone take it...
Just take it back and have them order you another one. Refurbs are awful in terms of quality assurance. Back in January, I went through 6 refurbs, ALL of them had some major flaw or something that didnt work. I had to argue with sprint for hours to get them to send me a new one that would actually work.
Run a ruu to reset it first and see if that helps

Oddly enough... The phone has quit acting up. The past two days the phone hasn't givin me one little hiccup. I'm gonna root this ***** tomorrow and see what happens. But thanks for the advice you guys gave to help.
I've had something similar to this happen with mine a few times, but it's never been anything more than a Windows-style 1st troubleshooting step didn't fix. One reboot and it's as good as new. I don't reboot very often though, so I dunno if that's what causes it for me from time to time.
Honestly, if it ever gives you any more trouble again, just walk it right in that store and get yourself a new one...or another used one, whatever the case may be. When you do decide to go root though, make sure you take careful note of what HBOOT you have...

My experience with the HTC One X

I couldn't wait to get the device the day it came out, i walked 5 miles to the nearest Three store the day before it came out only to be disappointed after they lied to me by phone telling me i could get it, but never mind, i pre-ordered it and got it the next day when the store opened,
like with all technology i was super excited to get home and play with my new technology, all was well
until i started noticing some pretty extreme overheating, it was so hot while playing games that the plastic on the back actually deformed due to heat, i thought it was just me, so without giving a damn i went to the Three store and got it replaced, no questions asked.
That was just a week after purchase, the new device wasn't overheating it was obviously just bad luck or so i thought...
during the past 2 months i started noticing more issues with the device, HTC says they are using Gorilla glass,
so nothing new here, my past 2 phones had it too, but obviously something is wrong... i first noticed a 5 mm hardly noticeable scratch on the top left end of the screen, i was sad, it's a phone that's suppose to last me 2 years, but yeah, nothing big, but now i'm noticing a hell of a lot of scratches on the screen, these aren't big scratches, they are so called "micro-scratches" but you can still see them if you are looking for them.
So
Overheating
Micro-scratches
pretty bad, but that's only the start...
last week while watching a YouTube video i noticed a white pixel on a black screen, probably something on me screen i thought but no...
turned out to be a dead pixel, tried the usual dead pixel repair stuff but no, nothing worked, i'm trying not to notice it but c'mon, it's so visible
once you know it's there, so frustrating, nothing i can do about it.
thought that was the worst thing, and quite possibly it is, but now i noticed a yellow tint spot on the bottom left of the screen, i thought the worst was with me but no, there was more to come.
so
Overheating
Micro-scratches
Dead pixel
Yellow tint spot
Pretty bad... but there's more...
Wi-Fi antenna connection fault, doesn't affect all but i got that too, it's a joke!, have my phone less than 2 feet away from the router yet i still get weak signal until i squeeze the phone (No this is not the damn iPhone 4 cellular signal fault for god sake)
So yeah...
Today i have these issues
Micro-scratches
Dead pixel
Yellow tint spot
Wi-Fi antenna fault
I'm tired of defending HTC, i loved my HTC Desire, and my HTC Desire HD, not a single problem with them,
but the fact that i had to swap my phone the week i got it, and now i have to put up with so many faults just because i unlocked my phone with your Dev site is a total unacceptable joke,
I was lucky to be one of few who's phones were suppose to be sent off to Taiwan for testing for that wi-fi issue,
that would mean i'd get a new HTC One X and all the faults would once again be gone, but HTC care manager Zoe N doesn't care any more...
it's been a week since she last replied to me, people on the phone won't let me speak to her either,
Can anything change the experience i had and make me forget it? defiantly not, unless i get a full refund and get to keep the phone.
I hope nobody else has to put up with so much crap from HTC.

I spoke to HTC number of times about the issues, but i have a voided warranty and that's the end of it.
my only hope was Zoe, the HTC care manager, but she doesn't do much caring obviously.
Do i plan on keeping the HTC One X? hardly got a choice.

And this needed its own thread because? In case you're new, a number of phones sold have issues and none of what you posted is any different than what's been posted before. If you felt like venting you could have posted in one of the complaint threads. Based on the defect poll you have a 30+/-% chance of getting a phone that's not "perfect" however the people voting defined it. Looks like you drew the short straw.
There are thousands of people with One X's participating in this forum. If everyone posted their life story (good or bad) it would take up the entire front page (and more). Do what everyone else who has experienced a problem has done. Return or sell it, exchange it if you can, or send it in for repair. Those are pretty much your choices.
If you purchased it in the UK, you're protected by consumer law. You can't sign that away (by agreeing to when you unlocked the device), the WiFi and yellow spot are more than enough to get a repair.

[Q] SDS? Hardware or Software Issue?

I am in need of help! My phone is dead. Here's the rundown
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II (i317)
Used on the Straight Talk Network
Running the latest Unofficial CM12, Lollipop 5.01 for the last week and loved every bit of it. No problems.
I cracked my screen in July and never got it fixed. The cracks spread and I was planning on getting it fixed, but haven't yet. I dropped it two days ago and then the screen wouldn't come back on. The buttons lit up and it would even ring when called. So I thought my screen was finally gone and started looking for a replacement. I took the battery out because I didn't want it ringing without the ability to answer it. Yesterday I put the fully charged battery in and attempted to turn the phone back on. It will not come back on and I think it's more than just the screen now.
Red LED blinks. Half of the screen seems like it is turning on, but then it all goes dark again. Will not enter Download or Recovery. I've been reading and thinking this is more of a hardware issue than software. I've flashed dozens of Roms with only minor issues here and there. I haven't had any issue with Lollipop and can't see it being related, although I could really be wrong.
My question is, is my phone dead? Do I need a new motherboard, along with the screen I was already gonna replace? If that's the case, I will just replace the phone and start over, unless anyone has free parts they want to donate, LOL! Seriously, just looking for input and suggestions.
Thanks

There's pretty much nothing to say, but I guess I will.
You can't get to download mode, can't get to recovery mode, you can't see the screen......
If you're looking for a second opinion to say you're f*cked, then consider this it.
If you could get to download mode or recovery mode, it has a chance. But you still have hardware issues like the screen to replace. Which is not fun.
Possible yes. But unless you really know what you're doing and careful as hell, you take the chance of hosing something else up. Like ripping a ribbon cable or yanking a soldered wire out....
I tried replacing a Motorola Atrix screen. The result of that was me buying an Atrix 2.
Unless you are emotionally attached to this phone, bury it.

I did some quick searches and doesn't appear to be any kind souls out there with spare parts. You may want to try CraigList or something like that.
Good luck to you

Hey, Thanks man! That's what I needed to hear. I have been flashing Roms since I had a Sprint PPC 6700 and I have enough experience to now I was f#@$ed, but I really needed to hear it from someone else. Someone with developer experience. A screen assembly and motherboard cost more than another phone on ebay or Swappa. Welp, back to the drawing board. Anyone got a note 2 they wanna sell cheap?

No worries.
Feb 3 I'll be on 2 years with my Note 2. Longest I've kept one. Only have one smallish crack on the lower left corner.
With everything I've done to it I'm amazed it's still working.
