HELP - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that people have posted about deleting the gtalk app off their incredible and it causing complete disaster to their phone. I have done this but I have the gtalk.apk file on my sd card and will not install. The superuser app will not install either. The root explorer app is working but the titanium backup crashes when I try and open it. And when I try and unmount my phone as storage on my computer, it will not recognize the sd card. How in the world do I get this gtalk.apk file to install. Please and thank you for your help! I am in desperate need.

what rom and kernel are you running?
why don't you just install google talk from the market?

I rooted with unrevoked if that is the rom? The kernel is:
2.6.32.17-g9a2fc16 [email protected] #1.
And I looked in the marketplace but I never comes up. Is it undr a different name or something? thanks

So you are stock, just rooted. I thought it was in the market, but I believe I am wrong about that. Superuser should be installed with unrevoked if i'm not mistaken. I have a feeling that it didn't fully root, or something went wrong.

I was fully rooted, and then I deleted gtalk and it has gone all to hell. And I can't even find the directions on how to unroot with froyo. I would even do that and start all over if I can. Does anyone know a link or video that shows the unroot after have 2.2? everything that I find is pre-froyo. Thanks

Here you go
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip
Rename it PB31IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sd card, boot into the bootloader (hold vol - & pwr while turning on the phone) and let it run the update. You will go back to a complete stock 2.2

thank you sooo much!

Nevermind, I finally got it to work. thank you so much though!

But now after the unroot worked, I cannot install apps from the market. All the original bloatware are there including gtalk(thank god). Is there a trick to get them to install? thanks

[Q] HTC DROID INCREDIBLE - PLEASE HELP (Pretty please!)

Hey Guys,
Newer user here. Been reading over all the info in the forums quite extensively and am attempting to upgrade my Incredible. I thought I had gotten a good understanding of what I'm supposed to do, but alas, I am slightly confused.
My ultimate goal is to prepare my phone so I can install Skyraider 2.5.2 so I can finally have Flash 10.1. I am absolutely sick of watching out-of-sync videos (the ones that actually play) and getting errors when I try to view other vids. I'd also like to have the 720p camera and so forth.
Here is my current phone info:
Firmware version
2.1-update1
Baseband version
1.00.03.04.06
Kernel version
2.6.29
root(at)Dell-Inspiron #1
(modified 'at' as vbulletin thinks I'm trying to post an external link)
Build number
1.22.605.2 CL161494 release-keys
Software number
1.22.605.2
Browser version
WebKit 3.1
PRI Version
1.28_002
PRL Version
51920
ERI version
5
So far, I have rooted the phone successfully with the unrevoked 3 method and have installed unrevoked forever. I can confirm that the phone says S-OFF at the top of the HBOOT page so I am assuming that install was successful.
I just tried upgrading my radio to 2.15 but it didn't appear to work. I clicked 'yes' to install the PB31IMG.zip and for a micro-second it seemed to initiate, then suddenly it went back to the main recovery screen. I rebooted, checked the baseband and found that nothing had happened.
At this point I found it best to just stop right where I am to avoid a brick and ask the experts. Looking at my situation, can someone please tell me exactly what I need to do to install Skyraider 2.5.2? I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks to everyone on this site for all the hard work and am sorry that I'm being a noob.
Try installing the 2.05 baseband

Make sure you formatted the sd card you are using with fat32.
1. Make sure SD card is Fat32 format
2. place PB31IMG.zip on root of sdcard (do not rename)
3. turn off phone and press: vol dwn + power to enter HBOOT
4. It will ask to continue press vol up for Yes
5. reboot and done
You can do nandroid back ups in recovery to back up your entire phone. That way if you would brick your phone you can pull your battery open recovery and restore the nandroid. When the phone is off you hold volume down and the power button at the same time to get to recovery. Then find out from these guys how to upgrade your radio. Theb your ready to go to the skyraider thread or use rom manager from the market to download skyraider. After you download it. Boot in to recovery and wipe data. Then go to "install zip from sdcard" and find the zip you downloaded and select it to install. Then reboot. Good luck

Ah, my SD card was formatted FAT16. I moved my files off, formatted it to FAT32, and moved them back. PB31IMG.zip is on the root of the card. Gonna try to upgrade the radio again.
Thanks to all for the quick replies. You guys are great.
Will report back in a few. *fingers crossed*
Success!
Baseband version
2.15.00.07.28.
Now, should I remove the PB31IMG.zip from the SD card?
Following the guide thread. PB31IMG.zip deleted.
I have downloaded Rom Manager and have performed a Nandroid Backup (I had done the backup previous to creating this thread).
I also downloaded Titanium Backup (per forum suggestion) so I can backup and restore my apps after the OS upgrade. Titanium Backup says it needs BusyBox installed to work. Gonna throw that on here and install it unless I shouldn't?
At this point is my phone ready for Skyraider 2.5.2? Also, is Skyraider the best, stable working version of Froyo out there? I've seen mentions of Cyanogen & Jager but can't really determine which one is the best.
I got my incredible last week and I've tried several ROMs. I made backups of each one and ended up sticking with SR 2.5.2 Vanilla based on my needs/wants. I also tried kernels and I'm very happy with KK's #2 kernel with SetCPU. CM6 has some issues with things I need (BT and no internal storage) but if those are worked out, that's where I'll be going. I had a Nexus One and ran CM for months.
Thanks for the opinion.
I'm currently downloading SR 2.5.2 Vanilla with optical joystick wake & social networking add-ons included from Rom Manager. Looks like I'd save alot of time by just downloading with the cpu and moving the rom to the sd card. But, is allowing Rom Manager to handle the install the safest method?
I've rooted, forever'd, and upgraded my radio to 2.15. I'm ready for SkyRaider, right?
Ya you are good to go. Make sure to wipe before flashing.
Success!
Now running SkyRaider 2.5.2 Vanilla!
Thanks to everyone to replied. I am so happy this went off without a hitch.
Question though -- when attempting to view a video on Facebook I got prompted to install an update to Adobe Flash. When I hit the link to install, I got an error saying nothing could be found.
Anyone else have this happen?

i think you will need to install flash 10.1 from the market.
nevermind i think it should have been in the skyraider flash folder on your sd card.
Tinkering around with SkyRaider, I notice that when I go to set my custom ring tones/alerts my SD card doesn't show up under sound settings. I go in under Astro and I can see them. They're all still there. Their current path is
sd card/media/audio/ringtones
Do I need to make a new directory for the OS to pick them up?

[Q] How the heck did I Unroot?

OK, so I'm a bit of a n00b here, and I need just a quick hand.
I'd flashed Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo a few days ago and was attempting to use metamorph to tweak the battery icon. Ran a Nand backup beforehand. Something went wrong with the metamorph and I was stuck in a bootloop afterwards.
So I hit power and held down on the volume rocker, hoping to get into my Nand.
Instead, it wouldn't let me select anything, went through its own update/recovery process, and now that it's done, I'm back to stock (complete with sprint bloatware) and totally unrooted. I DLed Rom Manager off the market and tried to get into Amon_Ra recovery, but it keeps telling me I don't have permission (thus I deduce I've lost root access.)
Is there anyway I can flash my Nand at this point, or do I need to go back through the rooting process?
Thanks for your help.

To get a recovery on your phone, you need to have root.
To get root need superuser permissions and/or nand unlock
To get nand unlock and superuser permissions you need to go through the rooting process.
If you've used unrevoked 3.21 and have S-OFF. You can flash recoveries and superuser permissions without having to go through any rooting process.
So I guess then what I need to understand is how would I go about flashing the superuser?
edit: at this point I've already gone through the whole rooting process, including unrevokedforever.zip and the additional ENG bootloader. I get into ROM manager, and go to recovery, but the clockworkmod recovery doesn't see my most recent backup. Reflashing to RA recovery, it finds it, but tells me I have to run the recovery via ADB. ???
Pretty sure what happened is that you left a stock pc36img.zip on your sd card, leftover from your rooting process. When you booted into hboot, it loaded it automatically and you must have hit update. Not sure what caused your bootloop though.
Check your sd card, and if theres a pc36img.zip on it, delete it. Look for the superuser app in your app drawer, and also check your hboot to see if you're s-off. If you are in fact back to unrooted stock, you can always run unrevoked to quickly root and then you can restore your nandroid, just make sure you have the same recovery that you used to make the nandroid.

When you go into the loader (Vol Down + Power) does it say S-Off in the first line?
If it does then you still have root and you can flash the custom recovery's .zip and you will be able to load back into recovery.
If you have S-Off read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8285266&postcount=1

Definitely. So now I need to get my microSD card reader and remove it. Can do.
Any idea why both Clockworkmod and Amon_RA are unable to load my backup? Versions for RA should be the same, and I think the same for Clockwork as well.
OK, I deleted PC36IMG.zip, now it just stays stuck in bootloader.
looks like I'm hosed, but here's what I'm learning on Freeza's thread, where I DLed the PC36IMG.zip in the first place:
freeza said:
UPDATE: It appears as though everyone is getting stuck in bootloader after this procedure. You can get out of this by reflashing your current ROM (without wiping) and/or restore a nandroid backup. Some have reported errors when trying to restore a nandroid backup. YMMV
Karadorde has put together a package that works. Read his instructions below:
First and foremost it seems that if you get stuck in the Bootloader (no matter what method you are using) then your Nandroid backups are broken. I don't know that anyone has been able to successfully restore from one of those yet.
The file in the OP allows you to apply just the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This works flawlessly for some but not so well for others.
The file in Post 71 and Post 91 allows you to apply a full PC36IMG.zip that contains the engineering HBOOT.img (hboot_0.76.2000.img) This is a fix for some who have gotten stuck in the Bootloader after using the file from the OP. At the same time this has also caused the some of the same issues people were having with getting stuck in the Bootloader from the OP. This file will not downgrade any part of your phone, however, it will wipe the phone. Also it is reported that it broke root on one phone. I believe this only happened to one person, need confirmation on if it happened to multiple.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader you can re-flash your Kernel to fix the issue. Not sure if this works with the stock Kernel or if you have to have a custom Kernel. Looking for feedback on this.
If you get stuck in the Bootloader reflash your current rom. Need feedback on this as well.

i do believe so, but someone correct me if im wrong, i do know when i unrooted a few weeks ago with the RUU i went to the newest hboot, but now that i'm rooted again im back to the ENG .76 version.
Running a RUU will put you at full stock, including radios and hboot.
If you are still stuck, try running the most current RUU and then rerooting.

The fastest way, assuming that you have an external SD card reader and can put this file on your SD from your computer is the following:
Download This : TMobile Update Thanks to BeachHead for modifying it.
Once downloaded rename it to Update.zip.
Place in root of SDCard.
Hold the volume down button and turn the phone on. Press in the corner to get into the recovery mode. On the options select the update.zip. Let the process begin. The file is modified to not check for things. This will reload all of the firmware as well as the system. After that is done, do a factory reset. Your phone should now boot to 2.2 . If this does not work let me know and I'll do the more involved guide.

I flashed the SBF 2.2 BOOT and it booted to the T-Mo screen which is where it is currently stuck. I'll give it a few minutes.
I got where you are at now. Download this SBF and flash it. http://www.multiupload.com/ZZ4TU8W7UQ
Its is the earlier leaked TMobile build. Once you have flashed this root your phone and install clockwork. Let me know when all of that is done. I should be done with dinner by then and can help the rest of the way. You will need the zip file I posted earlier as well as the 2.2 nandroid backup. Leave the Update.zip in the root of your sdcard, and put the nandroid backup in the apkrev folder on the sdcard. Once those are in place, boot into clockworkmod. Wipe system and cache. Then do a restore of the 2.2 Nandroid. Do not reboot yet. Now apply the update.zip. Do not reboot yet. Now do another system wipe. Now reboot the phone. You should be all set to go.
Dude it was actually fine. It loaded up and worked perfectly, I have FroYo and you are the man! Now I have a camera problem.

YES!!!!!!!!!!
You have to boot the right firmware. I realized that last night. You need to get that update.zip file to run and bring the proper firmware inline with the system image. I was screwing around last night playing with the different combos, and discovered that it wasn't mapping resources right. I lost use of my SD card.

WONT FLASH ANY ROM. annoying

So I have an incredible. FLAWLESS root and easy install for everything.
I just rooted a friends EVO, have root permission, and full root. I've tried both clock and supersonic recoveries. When i try to flash a rom VIA rom manager OR manually, i click it, hit yes and it writes one line and instantly goes back to the options. It seems as the phone just will not take ANY rom at all... what could be the problem??

Try re-downloading the ROM, you may have a bad download. Also, try flashing with Amon RA recovery.....it's never let me down. Make sure your battery is fully charged, too.
+1 for Amon Ra, though it looks like you've already tried it (that is what you mean by "supersonic", right?).
Try flashing the recovery manually. Download a PC36IMG.zip of Amon Ra and put it on the root of the SD card - don't rename it. Boot into the bootloader (hold the vol down + power buttons simultaneously until the phone boots into bootloader) and wait for it to scan. While you're there, double check that the phone is actually s-off & not s-on. When it asks you to update, choose yes. Say no to reboot, then choose recovery from the bootloader screen and try again.
Give me a minute & I'll post the file. I'm using the app atm.
It won't upload, so here's a link:

Most devs post md5s with the download, I'd verify it matches.

Do you mind posting all of the info on the phone? Whatever it says in the "About Phone" menu & what it says in the bootloader. Maybe we can figure something out from there.
Also, from where are you downloading the roms? As someone else mentioned, check the md5s.

The file should be named PC36IMG.zip, not PC35IMG. Also, it should be ran from the Bootloader, not recovery.

What's going wrong?
If you just want the stock rom, but still be rooted you can either a) restore from your nandroid backup, assuming you made one; or b) flash the stock rooted rom.
If you want to unroot, you need to flash the s-on zip in recovery, then run the RUU from your computer or flash a PC36IMG of the RUU through the bootloader.
I'll elaborate more when you tell me what you've done so far and what you're trying to achieve - stock rooted or unrooted.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Download the latest stock rom. Can be found at shipped-roms.com, or in the MANY stickies and threads here. Place the zip on your sd card, along with the s-on tool.
Reboot to recovery, flash s-on, then flash stock rom zip.

Make sure that in your attempts to go back to stock, you didn't go s-on. Boot into the bootloader and see if it says s-on or s-off at the top. You can do this by holding the volume down button and power button simultaneously until the phone turns on (you must have the phone turned off first). You'll see a white screen with skating Androids.
If you're s-on, you'll need to run an RUU from your computer or flash a PC36IMG of the RUU through the bootloader in order to get back to stock.
If you're s-off (still rooted/nand unlocked) then you can flash the rooted stock rom that I'll link you to. Download the rom and put it on the root of your SD card (not in any folders). Boot into the bootloader using the directions I gave earlier. Then, using the volume buttons to navigate, highlight recovery and then press the power button to select it. Assuming you're using ClockworkMod Recovery, choose wipe cache, factory reset (it may say something else like wipe data, you should know which one though) and then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache. After you've done all three of those, choose install zip from SD card. It's fastest to press the volume up button which will take you to the end of the list - all of your zips will be at the bottom. Highlight the file you just downloaded and press power. Choose yes from the list then let it run its course. When it finishes, select reboot and you will be back on stock.

Go to here and flash any one of the listed roms. These are all of the roms that came shipped with the HTC EVO. I suggest you download the any of the ones with PC36IMG in the file name because they can be flashed.

Holy 4g i did what u said flashed the zip and it did its thing and still came back cyanogen 7. what am i doing wrong anyone pleaseeeee????
i took a whole day trying to figure out how to unroot mine, and i finally got it.
you have to download "unrevoked s-on" put it on your sd card and flash it.
then you have to know which radio your running, so you can know which pc36img to put on your sd card, so when you put it into bootloader it will find it, and run through the checking process, then it will let you apply the update and you will be unrooted.
which radio are you running, and i can help you find which pc36img you need to be using.
