[Q] Touchwiz task manager - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If i do a Level 2 ram clean up with the stock task manager, my messages wont send and xda app wont open. When i try xda, it does the "buzz......buzz buzz buzz" then force close xda. Any suggestions?

Tried that

I have the same problem. I now have been just doing a reboot once a day instead of clearing the ram. I noticed I have a few apps that don't enjoy being cleared out with the stock manager. I am happy with how android does its ram management now and really only clear it when I have been playing with lot of media files.

Problem is, apps like xda, youtube, qik, market, messaging, facebook, twitter and countless others stay in ram after you close them. Makes my phone slow cause I use most every one of those constantly. So clearing my ram manually is needed. I like the task manager way more than the "manage applications" settings ,but if this keeps hapening, I might just have to start force stopping apps the long way.

Or just sign out of apps like Facebook, Twitter and youtube then sign back in. I do this once a week to keep it clean, it dumps the data. This version of Touchwiz is a mess.

Task killer not killing apps

I have tried 3 different task killers but each one do not seem to be killing the task even though it says it is.
When i open the "killed" apps, they open to the last screen before they were killed.
I am using the froyo ROM. On 2.1, when the apps were killed and then re-opened them, it always went back to the main screen.
perhaps stop using them u only disturb androids internal memory managment.
I prefer using task killers, it made the phone quicker when i was on 2.1
U should search Google, for why android doesn't need task killers.
Cyanogen even mentioned it in his tweets.
Tadkillers are pointless on android

nope they are not.
but i agree they are useless on daily operation
i am using them to kill everything after boot, since android loads everything into memory.
which is not usefull either.
after that one kill, i am also not using any.
Thanks, I find the task killers are very convenient to use.
When I kill a app, I prefer to go to its main home page rather the last page I was on.
Can others confirm if there having any issues regarding this?

Right after experimenting a little, i have discovered the following.
The task killers are killing apps. I have done a test to confirm this.
I have opened many apps and then gone into the menu then RUNNING APPLICATIONS. There it shows me all the opens that i have opened. So i then kill nthem using a task killer and i go back to RUNNING APPLICATIONS. Now these apps are not there so they have been killed.
This "issue" that im having may be standard feature of froyo.
So can anyone open a few apps, use them for a few seconds and then kill them. When you re-open them, do they go to the last page you were on or do they go to app main page.
thanks
Can anyone just do a quick test for me on there desire?
It will be much appreciated.

Autostarts - opinions, settings?

Does anyone use this app? I've installed it out of curiosity and found TONS of apps that start after boot. Will pruning down this list speed up my phone at all?
I've disabled some of the apps I never use such as Mail, FM Radio, Facebook for HTC Sense, Flickr, etc. Can I go further and disable apps I DO usem but stop them starting on their own?
Some of the ones I'm thinking of are Peep, FaBook Chat, HTC Widget Downloader.
And what's Open Sense Plugin Manager?
Can I disable Bug Report? Is Rosie Utility needed since I run ADW Launcher?
Updater? DRM Protected Content Storage? Media Storage? HTC Message Uploader?
Finally, am I wasting my time with all this?!!
Why not just test it out? Try removing a few apps from start up and then reboot the phone.

Because I'm lazy and stupid, and wondered if someone else had done the hard work already, lol!
it wont stop apps starting, just stop them at boot, apps can start themseleves at any time so you will prob see all the apps running after a few mins anyway
Most apps in that list are not infact apps but widgets for apps.
I dissable everything (after boot) that I know I won't be using the widgets for.
I also dissable in "sms recieved" - Messaging, this is because I don't use stock messaging, I use handcent.
Just read all the headings, go down and dissable things you think you will never use in those situations.
If things don't play nice then you can always untick them again.

[Q]Keeping browser alive

I'm not sure if I titled this correctly
How does salvage mod Rom go about it?
When I was on that Rom, anytime I would go away from the browser, when I returned I would be right where I left off.
On synergy and many other roms as soon as you leave the screen weather your going to another app or just turning the screen off the browser wants to reload the page, using data, draining battery and time.

I'm currently on Synergy RC-2 and after reading your post, I decided to give it a shot because I had never noticed before. Well, I fired up the default browser and then pulled up the Google News page and then I hit the home key and then fired up the Android Market app. After that, I pressed & held the home key until all of my recent app list appeared and then I selected the browser. I was immediately taken to where I left off in my browser (The Google News Page). It did NOT refresh. Now, with RC-2+, I have read where people were experiencing what you described above, but again, when I had it installed, I didn't notice. Are you using RC-2+? As for SalvageMod, it is, without question, my favorite AOSP rom, by the way....
Yes. I'm using +. Might swap over to rc2 tonight. + is running smoothly but i like stock browsers.

Salvage probably isn't really doing anything special to keep the browser alive in the background. It's just that AOSP uses much, much, much less RAM than a Sense 2.1/3.0 ROM does. So with Synergy, even just going back to the home screen may exhaust memory and cause it to kill the browser. But with Salvage, it's got enough memory to keep it running in the background, and it's just switching back to it when you open it again.
As much as I really do like Synergy and MikG, my experience was that it didn't leave enough memory to multitask effectively. Even after first install it was pretty low on RAM, and once I loaded the apps I use on, it was killing things constantly. I couldn't even check GMail while listening to music, or the music would stop. I'm back on CM7 as a result. Not a knock against either ROM, it's just too tall an order for our phones, at least the way I use my phone.

Closing apps via recent apps manager - issue

Ok so noticed it few days ago. Will use Facebook and touchdown as example it happens to many apps and for now did not find common denominator.
I reset the phone and do not star Facebook app or touchdown. When I go to task manager they are not listed there even if they are updating with messages/emails. All good. Then I start the app use it and when done press home.
After that I go to recent apps and slide up to kill them. All good but then if I go to task manager both Facebook and touchdown are listed and loaded with minimum 12mb each. Only if I kill them via task manager memory is released.
Had similar issue with calendar, mail or for example YouTube. Even if I have no mobile data so none of those apps can update they still sit in memory after killing them in recent apps. I have to use task manager to kill them.
Any one noticed same issue? Happened on stock rom and on HD rom which is based on stock kernel.
The recent apps menu does not kill them it only clears that from the recent apps window. They will only be killed if you do it manually via the task manager. HTC built it like this and I'm not sure if it will be changed in a future update.

Honestly what is the point then? Also why some apps get killed then, mainly games and video players?
Not really sure what the point is, maybe it's just to be used as a quick app switcher. The problem why your games and video players get killed sometimes is that they might be memory intensive apps that android kills automatically when it needs the memory to run other apps.

[Q] Way to prevent Facebook from starting?

Hello everyone,
By reading your helpful posts, I have rooted my Xplay, removed all the bloatwares, installed Link2SD and Autostarts.
This way I've been able to save lots of ram and my Play starts really quickly and has improved its performances.
However,
however,
however...
This bloody facebook won't stop launching by itself: task killer cannot handle it, Autostarts cannot manage to prevent it from starting by itself. Went into the settings of the app to remove all notifications, but still, it's always there, in the running programms, taking between 20 and 50mb of precious RAM.
I suffer randomly from lags in demanding games and I suspect that's because of Facebook working in background...
Do you have another solution than simply removing it? Indeed, Xperia play is a great gaming device indeed, but it's also a great smartphone, and I want to enjoy it with its full potential. Facebook is part of it and the official app offers more possibility than the non-official ones, usually limited to some basic options.
I just want it to stay closed until I decide to launch it and use it by myself... And not in my back...
Thanks for your help!
Uninstall Facebook.
Use site on mobile or on pc.
May sound "stupid", but its the best way

To be honest the official facebook app for our phones is rubbish, Constant pointless updates what don't fix any bugs, eats up your phone memory plus ram,
Just remove it with X-plore if you have Root

Or try autostarts it's an app that lets u disable apps...im testing it at the moment with facebook
Just download romtoolbox, go on autostart and disable it
Actually, I've disabled Facebook and its extensions with Autostarts, but still, it remains and continues launching automatically! So I've just frozen it with link2SD and installed Friendcaster instead. So annoying!

Very freakin' simple. FREEZE IT.
I easily get near 200MB+ free RAM with FB frozen.
Use the mobile site via your browser instead. It's way better and faster anyway.
