[Q] Problem with Gallery 3D [Solved] - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have this weird problem with Android's built-in Gallery, regardless of the ROM. It keeps on dragging to left, like when I start dragging the slider on the bottom of the screen to right, it keeps on jumping to left. I open a folder, it keeps on going to left. I open a picture, it keeps on jumping to left and switching to previous pics. As I've said, it doesn't matter what ROM I'm using, it's always there. It was on LeeDrOiD, And Today I just flashed CM7 just to check how it is, and it was still there!!! This is in fact one of the reason's that I don't use CM, though I really love how it looks.

That's just Gallery 3D. I prefer to use QuickPic from the market.

Its probably still trying to load images as you try and scroll through them.
From what I've read, there's not many fans of Gallery 3D

True. This happened to me the other day and wouldn't stop. I rebooted and let them load and it was fine. Once you have let them load, they seemed to have been cached so it will load faster next time.

Yes, quickpic is much faster than 3D gallery.

it also depends on your sd card. however, gallery 3d is one of the worst apps for picture viewing ever.

Once I pinch in a little it sharpens.
Yeah. Omg but when I pinch it gets sharp again...
Nope, not here. Never rooted Desire.
all fine here.
Yeah, I can see it. After the photo stops sliding, it blurs a little, then zooming it goes sharp again. Strange
Same here, I noticed it earlier today... It's quite annoying

As usual, if I wouldn't read stuff on xda, my phone would seem perfect to me. Now that I'm looking into it, it is there, but the funny thing is that it doesn't happen all the time...
No issue here. Non rooted desire.
I have this problem also on 2.2 froyo stock from the forum and rooted.
Anybody has it with the unrooted, normal OTA update ?
If you tap the photo to get back to the "filmstrip" view then tap a photo to go back to full screen it go's clear again!!

YES!!!!
Non rooted non branded Desire. It is 100% issue there. I think the other guys just don't notice it or understand what you mean. Took me a while to see it.
When you browse through the gallery it used to sharpen (on stock 2.1) when you stopped on a gallery pic during your swiping. Just ever so slightly. It does not sharpen now (stock 2.2) unless you adjust the picture using pinch.
You can see this easily by choosing a picture in the gallery and clicking it. now swipe to the images either side of it and back. the picture is very very slightly blurred. pinch zoom it a tiny bit and it instantly sharpens up. I'm sure the gallery used to sharpen the gallery pics automatically in 2.1. Anyone confirm?
edit: although, maybe Im wrong. Did it ever automatically sharpen the gallery pics when yuo stopped on them, or did you have to pinch or tap the image. I think it used to self sharpen. I really don't know without someone on stock 2.1 comparing?

I have same problem with my desire after froyo update
do you think HTC brose this forum to find bugs and issues or do they only go by the number of support tickets they get? I guess this is not a big problem really is it?
It seems they are just using a cached thumbnail for the gallery pics and don't sharpen the "preview" unless you zoom in.
I've contacted HTC about this issue and even given them a link to this thread... Let's see what happens, hopefully it will be fixed in an update soon...
Ok, found what you guys mean. The last picture is always blurry, even if the circle animation has stopped to keep sharpen the rest first.
I'm not sure but I think this happened to me only when I had the picture album widget on the desktop. I removed it, rebooted and accessed photos with the shortcut and so far, no photo has been blurry.
Also going back to choosing the album would fix the issue.

[APP REQUEST] Help getting HTC Album to work in cm6

So I've been using the 3d gallery or whatever comes with Froyo its Gallery3d.apk
Anyway it totally sucks. It loads slow and half the time it doesn't even load all the photos. Personally I don't care about the lame 3d effects etc. I just want to load my pictures and show them off..
Now the HTC Album loads fast and shows all pics instantly.
Has anyone got the htcalbum.apk(from the offical htc 2.2) to work with cm6? I have tried flashing the .apk in a zip but it won't show up in programs.
Anyone have any ideas on getting this to work?

Quote of the year. I couldnt agree more. I know HTCAlbum is sense-integrated, so idk how much luck any dev would have getting it on a senseless ROM... but ANYTHING other than the 3DGallery would be faster i would think.

i bet if you made an update.zip and pulled a few framework files from /system/framework from a sense rom you might be able to get it to work. might want to check to see if it uses any htc libs too.

Dolphin browser.. who uses it??

I love the browser, but for some reason pinch zooming on it SUCKS!! Its really annoying to zoom in and then it moves all the way to almost the opposite side.. basically it doesn't stay in the place on the point I zoom in on.. is there a setting or something ?? Also.. this is the best/most popular browser correct??
Thanks

Love that Dolphin HD and can't say I have the pinch to zoom issues. Sometimes I need to adjust but its hardly an issue. Usually on larger pages.

I uninstalled Dolphin Browser HD. But there is still a folder called TunnyBrowser in myfiles. That folder is 6.2mb and contains 25folders and 407 files in it. Is it safe to delete that folder?
I have now switched to Opera

I am yet to come across a browser that can do anything better than the stock browser. I really think the 2.2 browser is damn good. Maybe Firefox can make me change my mind when it comes out but I doubt it.

I doubt it too. The Beta installed at like 50MB in size, and was horrifically slow as well.
I really should give the stock browser another shake, I still have a grudge against it from my android 1.6 days, where the stock browser was fairly horrible.
I use dolphin HD on my EVO. I think its much better then the stock one. Seems to load faster and you can change it to think you are a DESKTOP and get the full web site...
Maybe you all don't notice it, but I bet it happens all the time and maybe you just don't mind??
I am using HD, and if you pinch zoom lets say 60-90% zoom, and take your fingers off the screen, it does not stay where you zoomed in at.. Which means you have to try to find the area, zoomed allllll the way in..
Or you can just zoom out, rinse and repeat the same process, lol..
Seriously, haven't any of you used an Iphone? Talk about perfect (browser wise)
Dolphin HD would be better IMO, but the zoom is BROKEN..

+1 on the pinch zoom issue. When I zoom, it jumps back to the left side of the browser window, in some cases, basically taking out of view the part I wanted to zoom into in the first place.
I was wondering what the deal was myself...nice to know I'm not alone.

My dad has the same phone as me, he just got his and his does it too..
As I said, I think EVERYONE has the issue, but they just don't either notice it, or understand how a zoom feature should work..
I was about to take a video of the issue, but I think it pointless, because everyone has this issue..
I just wish there was a way to fix it.
Just tried zooming in on all corners, left right etc etc and it went where I was zooming. Didn't automatically bump me to the left ... I have seen that happen though at times.
SWYPED from my SUPASONIC
I think what it does, is its trying to auto correct itself..
Try zooming in "a little" then focus on 1 word, zoom to almost max, let go.. I will bet that word will not be in view anymore.
I had this issue with the old Touch.. Which was just ****ty compared to today.. But compared to the Iphone.. I was hoping the EVO would be atleast on par or better..
I do notice that when zooming in max, or close to, it tends to gather the text and move left, yes. I usually don't zoom even half way so that'd probably be why I've only noticed this occasionally.
That is kind of annoying.

Yeah that is very annoying with the screwed up zooming. Mine does that too that's why I switched back to stock browser. Stock seems to load faster imo.

Would anyone make 3D Gallery better :( ?

it's been 1 year since I used 3D gallery in my Galaxy S and now I own Galaxy S II and I realised that 3D gallery doesnt improve much
I was wondering why is there no better 3D gallery? is there no one who could mod it? many has asked for :
1. sorting by name ( there's someone who mod it so that it sort by date but ascending only)
2. hide the photos so it doesnt show in gallery ( putting "." in front of folder name is just annoying )
3. auto rotate even when auto rotate turned off ( to save battery, it's needed mostly on gallery )
all of these functions are present on Quickpic app but I like the UI of 3D gallery better
I'd mod it myself if I could but I'm still studying basic programming languages ( C#, C+, php ) and I dont think it helps much
Just use QuickPic and be done with it. By far the leanest and quickest image viewer out there, with the possibility do to the things you require...

Wow thanks Man, that helps!!
i use QuickPic while on Desire cuz 3D gallery on Desire was slow. on sgs2 its really fast so i removed Quickpic. still the fastest image gallery though.
for hiding images, i purchased Gallery Lock. you can hide folders/single images from within the 3D Gallery itself. well it should be implemented out of the box but wth we need to live with it. Great app i would say. try it, the free version first.
The 3D Gallery on the S2 is by no means smooth or quick. It's the worst version of the Gallery I've seen so far. Choppy movement on the main gallery screen galore. It's a shame you "have" to keep it installed for some poorly written apps which depend on the stock app as I otherwise would have removed it alltogether.
YMMV ofcourse, so not saying this is the truth for everybody
Agree with that ^
Stock gallery is really, really bad IMO.
Quickpic all the way.
The 3D interface is all very well, but if it cannot run smoothly and quickly then what good is it? The movement on the 3D gallery on the S2 is particularly odd, almost like its too fast, but it still isn't smooth or pleasant to use.
When it is done loading images, it is quite fast. But you can always uninstall it with titanium backup.
JustPictures FTW.

Now if only there's an application that can sort 3D Gallery by name
Yh the stock gallery app on the s2 is just horrid. Funnily enough though, the sg1 had a much smoother gallery

Slower After Sense 4.1

Hey guys,
Anyone else experiencing their phone to be slightly slower AT times then when on Sense 4.0? Just sometimes my home screen and other parts of the system will just feel generally slower. The camera seems slower and the 'Developer Options' are really glitch now true. Tell the screen to flash when there is an update and the whole system becomes unresponsive. Really can't understand it..

try factory reset once and check if these problems still exist

Actually it is away faster in the screen switching, it is extremly smooth. However the app drawer lags alittle.

Try a factory reset or if your rooted with a custom recovery just format cache and dalvic cache. Then Give the phone 2 full charges from at least 20% in at least a 2 day span.
It could be a bad app or mod that is causing the issues. Usually it's never a bad ota update that slows the device. Also I recommend a backup program.

Not so great after all...
While I don't notice that my phone is any slower after the update to 4.1, the update hasn't solved my WiFi issue. Which I wasn't really expecting it to, but they did say it should even out the signal, it hasn't. I couldn't tell the difference about the 3D widget stacking or whatever on the stock launcher, 'nor could I notice a difference when opening the app drawer or swiping through homescreens.
That is not to say that the update didn't do anything. I know that benchmarks don't prove much of anything, some argue that they do. I don't really care too much for them, but out of curiosity sake, I ran some. Now, my phone is bone stock, I can't unlock the bootloader because my volume rocker cable is broken. So I'm not rooted, nothing. With Sense 4.0 and Android 4.0.3 I scored horribly, worse than the One X in the stats, at about 3900. I don't know what was going on, but I ran that twice and got the same result. Anyway, after the update to 4.1 and 4.0.4 I scored 5928 and that is with Apex Launcher and Holo Locker locked in memory.
Take from the benchmarks what you will! The 4.1 update does not work miracles, but it's a step in the right direction!

I am very serious, I found it to be very smooth to begin with on 4.0... I didn't have my screens filled with lots of widgets or shortcuts though. That might make a difference. I haven't tried using a livewallpaper yet either. I do notice that Recent Apps seems to be a lot smoother, but with the stock launcher, I don't see much. The app drawer might be quicker to open than before.

I'm experiencing the same after my ota - its great that the menu bar has gone but the home screen and recent apps just feel a bit sluggish.
For example, when opening recent apps, the current app will appear but other apps to the left of it appear after a slight delay. Swiping home screens is definitely more sluggish here; before ota it was a bit jerky (when swiping, home screen would occasionally jump from one position to another, but in general they followed finger location exactly), but now they lag slightly behind my finger, and instead of jumping positions they pause for a moment and then continue to move smoothly. I think this could be caused by the business calendar app though, it usually only happens on that page...
The problem with the launcher closing when a few apps are open is still just as bad as it was before (and still takes about 15-20 seconds to load the launcher again, which does seem a bit excessive...)
But despite the complaining above, it's really not the end of the world and I don't think it's worth bothering to do a factory reset and see if it works although I'm gradually growing to hate sense and might build up the courage to root and flash some experimental roms soon...

Hi,
Had the same problem. Turns out at least on my device after update to 2.17 the dev option "Don't keep activities" was ticked.
I know it wasn't before.
Wonder if it was a battery saving measure. Anyway made my phone sluggish so I turned it off, all back to normal.
Cheers
