it's been 1 year since I used 3D gallery in my Galaxy S and now I own Galaxy S II and I realised that 3D gallery doesnt improve much
I was wondering why is there no better 3D gallery? is there no one who could mod it? many has asked for :
1. sorting by name ( there's someone who mod it so that it sort by date but ascending only)
2. hide the photos so it doesnt show in gallery ( putting "." in front of folder name is just annoying )
3. auto rotate even when auto rotate turned off ( to save battery, it's needed mostly on gallery )
all of these functions are present on Quickpic app but I like the UI of 3D gallery better
I'd mod it myself if I could but I'm still studying basic programming languages ( C#, C+, php ) and I dont think it helps much
Just use QuickPic and be done with it. By far the leanest and quickest image viewer out there, with the possibility do to the things you require...

Wow thanks Man, that helps!!
i use QuickPic while on Desire cuz 3D gallery on Desire was slow. on sgs2 its really fast so i removed Quickpic. still the fastest image gallery though.
for hiding images, i purchased Gallery Lock. you can hide folders/single images from within the 3D Gallery itself. well it should be implemented out of the box but wth we need to live with it. Great app i would say. try it, the free version first.
The 3D Gallery on the S2 is by no means smooth or quick. It's the worst version of the Gallery I've seen so far. Choppy movement on the main gallery screen galore. It's a shame you "have" to keep it installed for some poorly written apps which depend on the stock app as I otherwise would have removed it alltogether.
YMMV ofcourse, so not saying this is the truth for everybody
Agree with that ^
Stock gallery is really, really bad IMO.
Quickpic all the way.
The 3D interface is all very well, but if it cannot run smoothly and quickly then what good is it? The movement on the 3D gallery on the S2 is particularly odd, almost like its too fast, but it still isn't smooth or pleasant to use.
When it is done loading images, it is quite fast. But you can always uninstall it with titanium backup.
JustPictures FTW.

I don't mind if separate app is needed to improve 3D Gallery like hiding photos as mentioned
Now if only there's an application that can sort 3D Gallery by name
Yh the stock gallery app on the s2 is just horrid. Funnily enough though, the sg1 had a much smoother gallery

Ive just JP and QP for a while and they are not really any faster or better than the stock gallery app IMO.

Hi. As you know 3D gallery app is very slow. I couldn't find a basic gallery app (like HTC gallery app) Any suggestion?
Still waiting
If you want something basic you can try Large Image Viewer. But it doesn't offer file operations (delete etc). Nice, clean and simple UI!

I've used OpenDesire and personally didnt find the 3d gallery to be all that slow :S
3D gallery isn't lightning fast, but that's hardy its main problem...
Anyway, as above, I'm back from defrost to htc sense because of this and camera (other stuff to o) but on aosp I was trying to use justpictures. It's actually quite functional, if you can stand the fact that it's dead slow.

The new Twitter update is very slick. Download it and test it out. You wont be disappointing.
Layout looks nice but what a laggy mess in use! Will stick with Plume for now - much smoother plus scrollable widget on stock ICS launcher
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Looks like a cheap port from iOS or something, really bad and slow :S
Plume definitely wins even if just for the scrollable widget lol. Facebook and Twitter both really need to add that function. I missed plume when I got my nexus im glad they made it compatable with ICS at last
Mark.
It sucks. One line of code is all that's needed for hardware acceleration and they didn't include it? Total fail.
This is strange:
I put ICS on my Galaxy S2, yet it runs SMOOTH.
But on the Galaxy Nexus it's super laggy.
It's horribly laggy, and not at all optimised for high resolution screens.
The only reason I stick with the official app is because it's integrated with the contacts app. Once other apps (hopefully) start using the new API's to integrate properly, I'll switch straight away.

Thats because the GNexus relies on Hardware acceleration. A port doesn't.
Ok then people. What is your favorite Twitter app and why?
The app runs way faster if you force hardware acceleration in dev-options.
It's crap. Laggy. Less options. The old Twitter version was better. I'll stick with Plume.
I don't like how they've removed lists from the main page and hidden it in your profile instead.
Push won't work anymore.
Did they remove it?
EDIT: Can somebody PM me the old .apk?

I don't do video chatting though. It is when I switch the camera from the back one to the front one that I experience lagginess.

Yeah I think you're right. I just tested this out on my sister's Galaxy S 4G, and although they're completely different phones, I think the "lagginess" is just a limitation of the camera and not a defect. I implied in my OP that I had a defect for my FFC, but in reality, I think it's just made that way. It snaps photos fine so I can live with it.
Funny thing is, my old phone, an EVO 3D, didn't have nearly as much stutter or lag on the front facing cam. Oh well. Heh.
I'm not too distrubed by the lag....but I have another problem. Whenever I take a picture using the front camera. It takes it fine, but then instantly mirrors it (Right -> Left). So if someone was standing behind me on the right in the pic, when I capture it, it shows it fine for a second but then reverses it as soon as it goes to the little gallery icon on the bottom left. So tthen the guy looks like hes standing on the left. Any fix for this?
I found this annoying too! But then I discovered all I had to do was flip it in the Samsung photo editor app. Just click the share button and share with photo editor. The second arrow on the top shows rotation options and it looks perfect.

Are you talking about in the market? If you changed your DPI then you will have issues with market capability. As far as updating an app from a website, never heard of it.
Hey everybody
One of the most useful mods I have performed on my Note 2 is a PPI adjustment, which effectively increases the resolution of the screen. I'm not sure why this isn't more commonly discussed, because I think it really takes advantage of the phone's size and tablet-like qualities (especially with the new MultiView update, if that appeals to you). I know many users of the original Note did this mod, which is how I found out about it. I suspect that many other Note 2 users may not be aware of this trick...
WHAT IT DOES
It has the same effect as increasing one's monitor resolution - more content is able to be displayed on screen. If all the icons, text, menus, etc on your Note 2 just seem really BIG to you, this is the antidote.
Look at the two before and after screenshots attached. I would have posted them in line, but as a new user I am prohibited from doing so.
REQUIREMENTS
ROOTED Note 2 - there are other Howto's on XDA that cover this
ROM Toolbox Pro (other apps may work too, possibly including the free version of ROM Toolbox, but this is what I used)
HOW TO DO IT
Root your phone and install ROM Toolbox Pro. Go to the performance tab, and click "build.prop" editor. There will be two entries called "ro.sf.lcd_density"
Within each one, change the property value and the default value to 240. That's four numbers you're replacing. On the last change, go ahead and reboot. Done!
OTHER NOTES
With the original Note, it was common for this mod to break the Market. This is no longer the case. But, there are a few things that break to varying degrees. They're easy to fix though...
TouchWiz: The default launcher will not adapt to the new settings, and you will have a lot of blank space. Fix by installing another launcher. I use Nova.
The Clock app breaks completely. I replaced with Alarm Clock Plus.
The dialer, like TouchWiz, will remain small. You could replace with a custom dialer, but I actually left it as-is because a side effect is that it's really easy to use with one hand.
The Camera app has the same problem. Camera Zoom FX makes a good replacement.
the Samsung keyboard breaks, thus taking down handwriting input with it. Swype works fine, as does s-note.
Aside from those minor issues, everything has worked fine, including all the 3rd party apps I have.
Hope this is helpful to some of you guys.
Seriously, this phone is amazing at 240

This is great. One other app is the email app only takes half the screen on portrait. Really need to figure out how to install the AOSP JB Email app on here....
Another benefit is Swiftkey Tablet keyboard now does the split keyboard on landscape which is easier to type on.
The only problem is that you can't use the handwriting mode with the stylus with the ppi set to 240 because the Samsung keyboard keeps fc'ing. That's my only complaint so far with this phone is that the handwriting mode is tied to the Samsung keyboard.

The market is probably filtering since at this resolution it is probably now considered an x-large device.
Really like this resolution, will need to use for a while to see which apps decide to crap out.
you can also edit the build.prop with root explorer. If you edit the it to be =160 it switched to tablet mode, but crashes a lot
=170 i think its still tablet and doesn't crash

To be honest, with jelly bean letting us choose "tiny" text now and the screen size being so big, I'm not as inclined to change the Res on this thing anymore... in the past with my S2 that was the first thing i would do whenever I flashed a new rom.

Technically the Galaxy Note II does have a higher screen res than the Galaxy S III since the Note 2 does not have a pentile display. Paranoid Android in the future will also let you completely customize the size of everything on your phone without messing up the market due to DPI issues.

anyone with issues sending MMS? I had taken a pic and tried to send MMS but got a unsupported file type or something like that and wont attach the picture. reverting back to 320dpi works.
hopefully the samsung keyboard will work with this in the future, it looks sooo much better with the dpi change .. specially with multi-view (although the menu and border of it doesnt stretch all the way across the screen).
bala gamer is hopefully going to take a shot at FIXING the bits that don't work right at 240dpi !! I especially hope he can fix the keyboard as I LOVE the keyboard.
for the multi window just drag the menu to the TOP OR BOTTOM edge and it displays correctly at 240dpi (the separator is not wide enough but thats not an issue)
Zoom FX is no good since it uses "smaller" images (really small) in burst mode NOT 8mp. I found that out the hard way after I shot some really nice shots and later discovered the res was so small it was useless to me
Am I the only one that hates the built in Gallery App and how slow it is when you have a lot of pics.
This isnt a problem as I have QuickPic installed. However the Messaging (and Mail) add do NOT give you a list of image pickers when you attached (very anti Android HTC)
Can someone fix this? Or know a solution.
Thanks

I have 37 albums with 50-100 pics in teach. Trust me it's slow, and every time I attach a pic it defaults to events install of albums.

Anything will be a bit slow if its got a possible 3700 photos, especially since it's always auto generating zoes on the fly. Not sure about the whole events thing, if I pick Albums it stays as albums, even if I add new photos. Sounds like you'd be better off just using QuickPic to be honest and you'll just have to work with the Gallery as it is. Maybe try a different messaging app and see if it lets you dictate what app to use when attaching photos.
Edit: I'm using GoSMS. Tried attaching a photo as SMS and it brought up a list of apps to choose from (gallery, dropbox etc)

Thanks but thats the issue really.
I am using a combination of Handcent and Stock - the reason I have to go to stock is sending MMS over Wifi (TMobile). Handcent doesnt support that.
So its just an annoyance but one I was hoping to resolve by just using Stock - but without it being able to attach from 3rd party Galleries it is a problem.
I am just frustrated that HTC didn't make their Messaging/Mail app support the normal Android methods of attaching files and providing a list of compatible apps.
Also of note - when you are in QuickPic and you Share a Image - the messaging App doesn't appear. Which again - bad HTC Bad!!!
