Hi. As you know 3D gallery app is very slow. I couldn't find a basic gallery app (like HTC gallery app) Any suggestion?
Still waiting
If you want something basic you can try Large Image Viewer. But it doesn't offer file operations (delete etc). Nice, clean and simple UI!

I'm using Open Desire. Do you think this issue has connection with it?

i dont think the 3D gallery app is slow either, ive never used opendesire tho .....
I've used OpenDesire and personally didnt find the 3d gallery to be all that slow :S
3D gallery isn't lightning fast, but that's hardy its main problem...
Anyway, as above, I'm back from defrost to htc sense because of this and camera (other stuff to o) but on aosp I was trying to use justpictures. It's actually quite functional, if you can stand the fact that it's dead slow.

So I've been using the 3d gallery or whatever comes with Froyo its Gallery3d.apk
Anyway it totally sucks. It loads slow and half the time it doesn't even load all the photos. Personally I don't care about the lame 3d effects etc. I just want to load my pictures and show them off..
Now the HTC Album loads fast and shows all pics instantly.
Has anyone got the htcalbum.apk(from the offical htc 2.2) to work with cm6? I have tried flashing the .apk in a zip but it won't show up in programs.
Anyone have any ideas on getting this to work?

I think we'd have more luck trying to get droid 2.1 gallery to work

Quote of the year. I couldnt agree more. I know HTCAlbum is sense-integrated, so idk how much luck any dev would have getting it on a senseless ROM... but ANYTHING other than the 3DGallery would be faster i would think.

i bet if you made an update.zip and pulled a few framework files from /system/framework from a sense rom you might be able to get it to work. might want to check to see if it uses any htc libs too.
I have the cm6 Tom but I dislike the 3d gallery because of video viewing... I can't get full screen like I can with the regular htcgallery.apk... is their a place I download and install it...

Give me a minute ill test it on cm6 and let you know
I dont know if this is from htc but somebody got it from the incredible and its the gallery and it works perfectly on the evo
That one didnt work either. I would love to go back to the htc gallery also, hate the the 3d in cm
bump...anyone gotten this to work on CM6? I hate how slow 3d gallery is.
any HTC app is going revolve around sense and (more than likely) not going to work on a sense-less ROM. Trust me, I'd LOVE for that apk to work, because i LOATHE the 3dGallery.
I highly doubt cyanogen would even think about messing with trying to get it to work. if i knew more about sense and its framework, id dive right in and try to get it to work, but i know nothing about it.
theres another thread about this same thing here

Wow, that 3d gallery works really well on the evo, installed it just fine on stock 2.2 The only one i have found so far that is smooth, and retains the 8mp camera functionality. Where did you find this from? I notice the icon is different too from the stock android and HTC gallery. Can you get the gallery from 2.2 to work this well on the evo?
Bumping this because I also can't stand the 3D gallery and was wondering if anyone had any luck getting HTC Gallery to work on CM6.
Or are there any other galleries? Can't seem to find anything in the Market. Someone should kick Google in the google for coming up with the crapass 3D gallery with blurry previews and slow performance

I use the one that is posted in here..I found it somewhere else but I have to go in with root explorer and delete the gallery3D.apk then flash the above .apk in a zip through recovery.
It at least loads faster and loads all my pics everytime..
Have you got a flashable zip of the gallery you're speaking of? I only see it in the thead as an apk. Thanks!

You can only flash this with clockwork because I dont know how to sign .zips.
Thanks sir. That gallery worked for me but looks and acts just like the 3D gallery on my phone (only difference I notice is that the icon is different and it doesn't work with the camera) so I went back to the CM6 default 3d gallery.
Still wish there was a simple 2D Sense-like gallery for CM6
Good news - thanks to androidforums I was able to find the old AOSP 2D gallery. I've installed it and it works great on my 2.2 evo with CM6.
The only thing that doesn't seem to work is the little thumbnail in the camera. When you touch it, nothing happens (after uninstalling the 3d gallery that is).
But, you can press menu on the camera then click gallery it works!
Anyone who wants a 2D gallery on CM6 I highly recommend this. Multi-touch pinch to zoom works on photos as well as swipe for next.

Does anyone know or have any information regarding replacing our cooliris gallery viewer with the stock picture viewer from the htc phones (including the desire Z)? Its just so much snappier and overall better performing. thanks, veritasaequita
i just extracted it from the modaco rom and tried to install the apk for it and it failed....hmmmm
it might(most likely) be dependent on senseUI

yeah i tried that one before and didnt work.. but theres a gallery app called "B&B Gallery", its not fancy or anything but it is much quicker than the stock gallery. i used to use it before and it would get the job done
it's been 1 year since I used 3D gallery in my Galaxy S and now I own Galaxy S II and I realised that 3D gallery doesnt improve much
I was wondering why is there no better 3D gallery? is there no one who could mod it? many has asked for :
1. sorting by name ( there's someone who mod it so that it sort by date but ascending only)
2. hide the photos so it doesnt show in gallery ( putting "." in front of folder name is just annoying )
3. auto rotate even when auto rotate turned off ( to save battery, it's needed mostly on gallery )
all of these functions are present on Quickpic app but I like the UI of 3D gallery better
I'd mod it myself if I could but I'm still studying basic programming languages ( C#, C+, php ) and I dont think it helps much
Just use QuickPic and be done with it. By far the leanest and quickest image viewer out there, with the possibility do to the things you require...

Wow thanks Man, that helps!!
i use QuickPic while on Desire cuz 3D gallery on Desire was slow. on sgs2 its really fast so i removed Quickpic. still the fastest image gallery though.
for hiding images, i purchased Gallery Lock. you can hide folders/single images from within the 3D Gallery itself. well it should be implemented out of the box but wth we need to live with it. Great app i would say. try it, the free version first.
The 3D Gallery on the S2 is by no means smooth or quick. It's the worst version of the Gallery I've seen so far. Choppy movement on the main gallery screen galore. It's a shame you "have" to keep it installed for some poorly written apps which depend on the stock app as I otherwise would have removed it alltogether.
YMMV ofcourse, so not saying this is the truth for everybody
Agree with that ^
Stock gallery is really, really bad IMO.
Quickpic all the way.
The 3D interface is all very well, but if it cannot run smoothly and quickly then what good is it? The movement on the 3D gallery on the S2 is particularly odd, almost like its too fast, but it still isn't smooth or pleasant to use.
When it is done loading images, it is quite fast. But you can always uninstall it with titanium backup.
JustPictures FTW.

its PHOTO SAFE. i have tons of my private photos there and the browsing is super fast, i mean the private photo browsing.
Damn thanks for suggesting Quickpic guys. I just tried it out and it is amazing!

I don't mind if separate app is needed to improve 3D Gallery like hiding photos as mentioned
Now if only there's an application that can sort 3D Gallery by name
Yh the stock gallery app on the s2 is just horrid. Funnily enough though, the sg1 had a much smoother gallery

yes it was
tried starting QuickPic with thousand jpegs, at first S II's back was starting to get hot
not serious though, only the first time
Try this
Gallery++ 1.6.9
Ive just JP and QP for a while and they are not really any faster or better than the stock gallery app IMO.

Whats been changed?
Quickapp is the fastest but i'm sticking to the stock one just cuz i could show off the tilt to zoom to my friends. and using stock browser just for that too.
Am I the only one that hates the built in Gallery App and how slow it is when you have a lot of pics.
This isnt a problem as I have QuickPic installed. However the Messaging (and Mail) add do NOT give you a list of image pickers when you attached (very anti Android HTC)
Can someone fix this? Or know a solution.
Thanks
Dan

I have 37 albums with 50-100 pics in teach. Trust me it's slow, and every time I attach a pic it defaults to events install of albums.

Anything will be a bit slow if its got a possible 3700 photos, especially since it's always auto generating zoes on the fly. Not sure about the whole events thing, if I pick Albums it stays as albums, even if I add new photos. Sounds like you'd be better off just using QuickPic to be honest and you'll just have to work with the Gallery as it is. Maybe try a different messaging app and see if it lets you dictate what app to use when attaching photos.
Edit: I'm using GoSMS. Tried attaching a photo as SMS and it brought up a list of apps to choose from (gallery, dropbox etc)

Thanks but thats the issue really.
I am using a combination of Handcent and Stock - the reason I have to go to stock is sending MMS over Wifi (TMobile). Handcent doesnt support that.
So its just an annoyance but one I was hoping to resolve by just using Stock - but without it being able to attach from 3rd party Galleries it is a problem.
I am just frustrated that HTC didn't make their Messaging/Mail app support the normal Android methods of attaching files and providing a list of compatible apps.
Also of note - when you are in QuickPic and you Share a Image - the messaging App doesn't appear. Which again - bad HTC Bad!!!

Yeah that really is silly of them, forcing you to use their apps pretty much. Same as how they've made it so that only their official headset with volume controls actually work. All other 3 button headsets can only skip tracks
try uninstalling the default gallery
