Twitter update available - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The new Twitter update is very slick. Download it and test it out. You wont be disappointing.

Layout looks nice but what a laggy mess in use! Will stick with Plume for now - much smoother plus scrollable widget on stock ICS launcher
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Looks like a cheap port from iOS or something, really bad and slow :S

Plume definitely wins even if just for the scrollable widget lol. Facebook and Twitter both really need to add that function. I missed plume when I got my nexus im glad they made it compatable with ICS at last
Mark.

It sucks. One line of code is all that's needed for hardware acceleration and they didn't include it? Total fail.

This is strange:
I put ICS on my Galaxy S2, yet it runs SMOOTH.
But on the Galaxy Nexus it's super laggy.

It's horribly laggy, and not at all optimised for high resolution screens.
The only reason I stick with the official app is because it's integrated with the contacts app. Once other apps (hopefully) start using the new API's to integrate properly, I'll switch straight away.

Thats because the GNexus relies on Hardware acceleration. A port doesn't.

Ok then people. What is your favorite Twitter app and why?

The app runs way faster if you force hardware acceleration in dev-options.

It's crap. Laggy. Less options. The old Twitter version was better. I'll stick with Plume.

I don't like how they've removed lists from the main page and hidden it in your profile instead.

Push won't work anymore.
Did they remove it?
EDIT: Can somebody PM me the old .apk?
Just deleted my Titanium Backup today men

Its still choppy in the discovery tab even with hw acceleration enabled. Hopefully that can be fixed in a future update.

Still very choppy for me as well. Doesn't work at all. I have to use TweetDeck for now.

Does anyone have the .apk of the previous version? I much preferred that one.

All seems fine to me once force GPU is on, but actual Twitter notifications have stopped

New Android market released - movies, books etc

Yes the news just went live on google mobile blog - here is their video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Pbo-d62ivY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I still haven't got the update yet, did anyone else get it?

The new version of Market will be rolling out over a fairly long window — it may take as long as a month to arrive on your handset, though it sounds like US users may see it sooner.

Does google still recognise that I am now running 2.3??

To be fair, I'd say Swiping through screens has been there in Android for long, can't recall when exactly, but I think YouTube app was one of the first, the tiles do give out a hint of WP7, but again, I find the styling bit more close to Web version of the Market.
As for slow refresh, yes I do notice that too !! I'm sure will be fixed in future updates
the tiles on the front screen was the wp7 thing.
swiping left and right - didnt even cross my mind
Works on oxygen. But only then reallu fine, when pictures are loaded. But it looks nice.
Thanks for posting!!!

Looks pretty good!
Yep looks really nice but with all this graphics downloaded each time, it really need a better handling of cashed images/icons. It's horribly slow until I allow it to load fully, and by then im about to throw the device out the window.

Yeah, google should also put an option to disable the preview page, the one with bigger images, for each category..It works good on wi-fi, but can't work on low 3g or edge..After 10 minutes i browsing the market, it downloaded about 16 MB of data..too much
Really want to install this but the amount of data it consumes seems kinda crazy.
I've been using the new Android Market for about a day now and I'm really enjoying it.The new layout is nice and gives the market a more premium feel. Some new great high quality apps would make it almost perfect.

What negative effects have you seen from enabling Hardware accel?

Ok, I know a few people say don't enable 2D GFX Hardware acceleration because it could cause problems in apps that don't support it yet...but what apps?
I haven't found a need to enable it at all (all my apps are great), but I keep seeing this *relentlessly* and nobody has managed to say what negative effects we've seen so far. Are there specific apps that have problems with this option? What happens in those apps?
Just curious because nobody's explained why they feel so strongly about it lol
What are the positive effects? I tested it and I didn't really notice a difference.
i tried to run some apps with this option on, and off. Cant realy see a difference. Maybe you will in the future or in other apps but i`m still looking out for it
I enabled it for a while and tapatalk crashed right away, and wouldn't reopen until I disabled it.

One change I see is in the new Facebook app. The side menu's animation is a lot smoother with hard acceleration forced. Twitter is smoother also.

Interesting. Any idea how the battery life performs with it on/off?
It's a developer tool. Don't use it.
It can cause some problems with some apps that aren't updated to support full hardware acceleration even though its just one line of code.
Be aware that you have to kill the app and start it fresh for the setting to 100% take effect. (go to task switcher and swipe it away)
It makes a massive difference with apps like Facebook and Twitter! I've have had no adverse effects.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Apps crash, that's the negative consequence.
somebody just said that its a developer tool don't use it ... seriously?
I have been using it from day one ... seeing smooth scrolling specially in Browser, facebook, twitter, Gmail. All menus scroll smooth as well.
So all in all it does make a difference.

[Q] Chrome Beta

Chrome Beta is released for ICS. I just downloaded from the market. Any pro and cons compared to the default browser?
Pros
Faster than default browser
Nice transitions
Easy tab management
Cons
No Arabic/Hebrew support (awkward)
no flash
Pretty much the same with visual enhancements
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I find they made the zooming a lot better than the stock browser. It has more of a mobile safari feel to it which I think is a good thing. Also, I love the fact that you can get to the open tabs on your desktop chrome.
There are missing things such as the quick control and the URL bar doesn't go away so you can't have full screen. I think it is also missing the feature to request the desktop version of a page also.

The no flash is defiantly a deal breaker for me, but hey, remember it is free and still in beta!
Also there is no way to change the UAString which means it will always be stuck in "Mobile" until/if they add the ability to change it (All websites will come up in mobile view).
Great info here. I was not aware of the lack of flash, but everyting else seems ok. Since it is just Beta, I am hoping for some great improvements. Browsing is WAY faster!
Cons:
- no flash... Ever
- pages run as mobile with no option to switch to desktop
- no accessibility options ... Can't run pages with inverted Colours
- runs as a service, eating up precious ram
- no chrome extensions - vs. Firefox mobile with plugins, Chrome is pathetic
I have no idea why anyone would use this as a primary browser, considering the stock browser is superior is almost every way.
It is just a Beta release.....

Beta means that you can't complain for it missing something.
Google likes to "release early and iterate quickly". Which means a lot of things come out as Beta.
Immediately after getting ICS on my TF101, I installed Chrome Beta, it is nice, but as others have already said:
Pro:
- bookmark sync, i just LIKE IT, works same as desktop chrome: start typing url and it will autocomplete from your bookmarks... missed it on old browser.
Con:
- No arabic support (while default browser does support arabic)
- No flash, which i don't need much, i have it disabled on default Browser.
will it ever support extensions? that will be great

Which part? The way people use the term beta or the fact that there aren't many features?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I see people didnt bring up the fact that you cant get rid of (at the very least) the status bar like you can with the Google Labs option in the stock ICS browser. Id use Chrome beta every second I was online with my SGN if I could "maximize" the screen.

I'm not questioning features, i'm questioning your expectations of a BETA product and your understanding of what BETA means. It seems to me that you're expecting this to be some magical browser from day one, which it is certainly not - that's why it's a damn BETA!
You guys are not aware of this pro:
It stops redirecting websites, just like desktop browsers. Opera, Dolphin, Firefox, or stock browser doesn't have this.
For me, this is the biggest plus.
When you email yourself or someone else a page using Chrome on your GN? Does it leave the subject blank? It's driving me nuts!

Facebook App updated to v 2.4 today [23FEB2012]

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ht..._facebook_updating_its_windows_phone_app.html
EDIT - 23rd FEB - Version 2.4 fixes the issues with 'Events'.
The LONG awaited update makes facebook kickass! I just got one on my Titan. Exploring it, but so many visible changes already. Update this post soon. If anyone noticed changes do update us!
EDIT1: You can get it manually by going to marketplace and then facebook, press update
It will forget your user ID and password, so re-log-in.
EDIT2: It's a complete revamp of the UI. Excellent speed... Now supports time line feature too!
EDIT3: supports groups and pages as well as very reliable checkin. Photo albums load as quick on 3G as on wifi in previous version, even faster! Still can't "poke" back from the app. Push notifications need testing though
I've already changed my rating and review and given it 5 stars. Hope most users do it too so that others get an idea of how good this official app has become!
5 stars for me too. Therefore long wait for this update. With carbon for Twitter, I appreciate my omnia for a long time.

Just installed the update a couple of minutes ago. Man, THIS is how it should have looked and worked like in the first place. Really sexy and overall pretty useful now.
Sorry to say but the banner is even bigger and its just as laggy and slow. Try scrolling the panorama, it freezes and slows down... Quite disappointing.
Also there are still no notifications when pinning the inbox to the start screen...
Yes it got a bit better. But not much, the messages still take ages to load (implement a database!).
Push notifications still come in very delayed (but this might be an FB issue and not their fault).
Lets hope they will fix this soon and not let us wait another half year.
But the good thing is the design is better and it has more features. There is hope for a next version
EDIT: Other parts dont seem to be that laggy. Its mainly the frontpage and probably due to the collapsing of the appbar, that slows down the panning of the panorama.
Hmm no update showing available yet on my UK titan...
Edit...
Installing now
Is it just my or did they really remove the shake-to-refresh feature?

For me Panorama/without Panorama, the scrolling and panorama was a breeze! Could it be the internet connection difference? I am not sure about the notifications on mine yet. Ironically not a single notification yet
Message loading is much improved that last version, it could defo be better though.
I guess everyone is on there right now trying to download it at the same time. I get a message that reads " We couldn't load engough data to start the application. Please try again later." LOL....
Got the update also. Huge improvement from the older version, took them long enough though.

Well try panning the mainpage panorama from the news feed a full cycle back to the newsfeed. I mean horizontal panning, not the vertical scrolling itself (which is quite smooth). The horizontal panning freezes constantly and lags (Lumia 800). Which makes it a bit unpleasant to use...
I have just downloaded and for sure it kicks asses.
But this just makes me confuse. Is Microsoft trying to integrate everything in WP Apollo?
i mean, mango is first step when we have Facebook and Twitter deep linked in ( notification through Me Hub), but why MS keep updating the apps ?
i don't mean this is a bad move, but does it makes people care less about the social - life ability of next Windows Phone build?
Or they just wanna drop some stuffs to temp fix what Mango can't do about Facebook at the moment and then include it in Apollo?

Rss feed news reader is totally unnecessary in a browser, useless extensions, tab switching is inconsistent , slide from left only and not from right, could be better like chrome, start up time is little slower ...no tablet support, no desktop and tablet sync... and ui could be little better-different ...

Not sure what you mean tab switching is bad seems pretty easy to me? Start up time seems fast to me? Can't comment on your other responses as I only have my Nexus.

The extensions thing is annoying and wastes the right side swipe.
Tab switching is a little clunky. Chrome is better and smoother.
No full screen.
No tab sync
Nothing that improves chrome but a few things that are worse.
Oh and it FC when I press home button on one site I visit. Same as xscope. I think that site does something odd because it's the only one, however chrome has no issues with it.

So the author of "chrome is garbage" is refuting my post for being subjective?
Of course it's subjective... I wrote it, is unlikely to be someone else's opinion.
There is only two things I can think of that chrome doesn't have.
Flash support. This is worthless to me but some people want it I guess.
Some sort of decent word wrap or page fit on resize. Not major but would be nice.
Tab, bookmark and history sync. Tab switching. Full screen. These me than make up for formatting for me.
If I wanted flash for some reason I would use aosp or this I guess. But I don't.
chrome eats a lot of memory though
it heats up the phone wtih constantly using
it LAGGS
there are many other browser, like mozilla(or many other),that are faster
