[Q] Skyraider Athena & email issues... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just flashed to Skyraider Athena 1.2. build 3.26.605.1 to compare it to Uber Z. So far, so good on standard and installed apps.
Two issues I've detected:
1) Noticed that I cannot do "pinch to zoom" on my Gmail messages. Is that a limitation in this build? Or did I miss a setup step??
2) Emails do not load images automatically -- have to select "show pictures" which is kinda annoying. Any way to set this to happen automagically?
Thanks. I'm learning quite alot on this forum as a newbie...

1). I have noticed that, and I don't remember being able to do this in Gmail. I tried it with CM7 RC1, and no pinch to zoom.
2). I've noticed the sure pictures thing in many of the ROM's I've flashed, so I am pretty sure it is a Gmail thing. Not sure if that can be changed, I don't think it can...
Sent from my Inc

What you're describing seems to be the normal behavior of the GMail app itself. It's worked that way for me in Uber Z, the IncDoes Z port, Athena, Skyraider Sense, and Virtuous.

Both work exactly the same on my Athena build, so that might help rule out user-error. I think it's working as designed.

Skyraider Athena & email issues
Thanks for all the replies to confirm the situation with email client within SkyRaider Athena. Question: would another email client solve this situation (if one exists)? Any recommendations?
BTW, I don't recall having these issues with Uber Z, but then again I think it had a diff email client.
Thanks again.

The other app I use is Enhanced Email, and I've noticed that it does the same two things as stated in the OP. I use it for my Exchange email, and just tried it to no avail.

Most stable 2.x ROM?

Hi !
I'm very happy with my Hero, but im kinda tired that HTC hasn't released atleast a 1.6 ROM yet.
Im thinking of flashing a 2.x ROM, but which is the most stable? I use my phone at work, so can't go around and reboot it constantly. Also Exchange mail is a must!
Any tips? (looking at kagu/ckdroid)
CKDroid works great! I find it most stable.
this may be a little early to make the claim of stability but i have been using AOSP 2.1 r1 by jnwhiteh all day, and it has been very stable.
i was using kagudroid before this.

CKDroid is based on it
Why don't you try MoDaCo custom roms? They are android 1.5 but heavely optimised, they're faster then any 2.x rom i've tried.
I'd say CKDroid is the fastest of the 2.X ROMs. And as far as I've tested it up against MoDaCo when it comes to speed, they are quite equal.
Ok, i'll try CKDroid.
I can't seem to see a complete flash guide. Can someone link me?
Is there indeed an offical 2.1 rom coming at some point?

KaguDroid 1.1 by LoxDev is amazing. Fast and stable. Really nice!!
what about hero2.1 v1.8?( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592596)
i want to try a 2.1 rom with sense and i read that this is the most stable...it's true? what about the hero/espresso hybrid?
I find this one the best Sense ROM by far - full albums / camera / bluetooth etc.

Well
I tried MoDaCo 3.1 hours after getting my hero, and about the same length of time later I removed it, it was horrible and I used to get crashes of the "system" process and had to reboot, happened 5-10 times in fewer hours so i switched straight back to a rooted version of the original Hero generic latest ROM.
I might consider givng another senseUI 2.1 option a try before i make my final judgement, but that's just my experience with the MoDaCo one so far.
has anyone tried the new VILLAIN 1.0??? it seems to be almost perfect! i'm gonna try it tomorrow...if anyone has already tried it please tell me how it works!

Yeh I just looked at that, and the exchange and lack of HTC keyboard are the only two things keeping me from flashing to it just yet. (I'm a perfectionist, so it's gotta be perfect before I'll even consider it.)
yes i read those problems...but can be resolved easily...so, when the cook will release the next version, i'll flash instantly! goodnight
I suggest KaguDroid 1.1 or later, or AOSP 2.1-r2 or later, if you can handle a vanilla (no sense ui).
Villain has Sense; which is nice because of Facebook contact sync. All other parts of Sense can be imitated by apps (like the clock/weather can be done by beautiful widgets). There are some other issues with Network Location and there is no included HTC or Android music widget in Villain. Although I prefer the HTC home-screen, I also prefer the Android lock-screen.
KaguDroid includes voice input from the keyboard, so you can use dictation to enter text into a field in ANY app.
Villain doesn't provide the HTC IME keyboard, or voice input (as of today).
Market works without using Market Enabler, for Rogers (Canada) in Kagu/AOSP. SMS incoming timestamps are correct without using SMSfixtimes in Kagu/AOSP.
As far as stability is concerned, I haven't really had issues with any of Villain/Kagu1.1/AOSP2.1-r2

[Q] ROM Selection

Hi all
I am sure this has been done to death, and I have searched, but keep twisting myself around and around.
I recently installed CyanogenMod 6.0.2 with LauncherPro Plus and really like it, but I do miss some of the Sense stuff and, as such, am considering heading back to a Sense based ROM...at least for now.
That said, I much prefer the way that Cyanogen deals with Syncing Google, Twitter and Facebook Contacts. I think it is the Facebook and Twitter for HTC Sense that cause my pain..as I can't setup a standard facebook/twitter sync option.
Does anyone have a ROM recommendation for Sense based, but without these apps installed? So I can sync my contacts etc like I can in Cyanogen?
Cheers

[Q] CM7 quickie

Looking to move from useless UK retail froyo to CM7 but have a few q's I can't find the answers for.
CM7 does have the HTC exchange app doesn't it so I can collect exchange work emails from what I understand. Does this mean that my work calendar won't be sync'd like it is with with the moto calendar?
What is the difference from flashing cm7 over uk froyo vs nordic froyo bar that's what it's tested on?

I'm using CM7 at the moment - and syncing with Outlook for my contacts, calendar and emails is a must. I'm doing it fine in CM7
I've no idea though on the difference in Froyo ROMs, although I'm not sure the Froyo ROM I used was Nordic - I used the one from the guide here
Wicked, making a nandroid now so will flash up cm7
cheers
All sorted happily running cm7 and exchange email, calendar, contacts all sync wonderfully

[Q] Can I add Sense 3.0 MMS to Sense 2.1?

I've tried a bunch of the GingerSense ROM's, but am getting a little tired of fighting with nagging little issues with them and the lag that comes with them. (Not meant to be a dig at the devs) They are doing awesome work, I just need my phone to work 100%
The thing is though, I'm missing a couple features from those ROM's, including the MMS and Mail application. Any chance I can just pull some files from one of my old GingerSense ROM's and replace these apps?
Thanks in advance!
Tried copying the Mail and MMS .apk's from a Sense 3 ROM to my phone with Root Explorer, but after I did that, neither application was available. I did check to see that permissions were set, but to be honest, I really don't know what I'm doing, or even where to start to find a solution.
My guess is that it won't work because they rely on newer features of sense 3.0 that aren't available on 2.1.

[Q] Looking for senseless ICS Rom still being updated

Does anyone know of a senseless ICS rom that is newer than this one? Something based off a Sense 4 base.
I would love to go the CM route, but I love my Sense Mail. No other mail apps have come close to the way it handles multiple accounts, subfolders (both imap and exchange), and even message threads/grouping.
I didn't see anything here besides the one mentioned above and some older 2.x based ROMs.
Thanks

Yes. I'm can't claim to understand everything about ROMs, but from what I've read you need Sense to have Sense Mail.
Every thread you read about someone wanting HTC Sense Mail app on their non-HTC phone or ASOP ROM, ends with something to his effect:
You need x, y or z from the Sense 'framework' for Sense Mail to work.
The Sense Mail app in Viper is great. I just want to have something with the default launcher removed, but the other stuff intact and run a different launcher.
Can I safely freeze, disable, or remove the "HTC Sense x.x.x (Desktop) without trashing my phone?
I'll also take suggestions for alternate mail apps, but they need to have the following functions;
ability to sync subfolders (exchange and imap)
an "all messages' view per account
grouped message threads
I'll attach some screenshots to try and show what I mean.
The last time I tried some of the ones out there (free and paid), I didn't get all the functionality I was looking for.
Why don't you just download an alternative launcher and leave the Sense launcher be?
And yes you can freeze things one by one to see up to what point the ROM will still be stable then simply delete them
