How well does it work on the hermes compared to having exchange setup? Thinking of switching to it but was wondering the pros/cons, I know a lot use it here so i figured it would be fine to ask in the wm6 section. Also does it sync contacts like exchange does? Thanks
If you are or work for a company that uses Exchange 2003 SP2 or Exchange 2007 then there is zero need for BB. BB is for companies that:
Use older versions of Exchange or other brands of mail servers.
Have lots of users locked in to BB contracts with their providers
Just fear change.
Functionally, they work exactly the same. Practically, I jumped for joy the day I got rid of my Blackberry and went to WM with a push-enabled Exchange server, it handles email/PIM stuff so much better. But if you are still working for or with a company stuck in BB land, but want to use push with the Hermes, then I suppose BBConnect is the holy grail. If not, there is certainly no reason to switch TO BBConnect/BBServer.

Well I need 5 push accounts and with exchange I can only have one, I recently started my own company so I have multiple business addresses that I personally read if not respond to.
Does BBConnect enable support for multiple push accounts? or does it require the consolidation into a single BB Internet account?
I was under the impression (possibly incorrectly) that you could only be tied to one BB Enterprise Server.
Can anyone confirm? I'm in the same situation...

For me, version 2.1.2.31 BES (BB Enterprise Server ) works excellent. Email and Calendar. Address book is corporate and I can do lookups, but contacts I sync only with my home PC. Never used with BIS ( BB Internet Service ).

I think only one BES or BIS. I also have pocket outlook pulling my personal mail with POP from Yahoo and Gmail every 10 mins.
BIS vs. BES
hi guys. i'm no expert but I am using the blackberry internet service which supports gmail, yahoo, imap, and pop mail servers. I think there are 2 flavors of bbconnect, the enterprise version and the internet service. I work for a small business so i'm out a lot selling but keep in touch with the office mail using blackberry and the business imap server. been using it for over a year and so far so good. not sure if you can run bis and bes over the same bbconnect client though.

There are some big security implications for using Exchange push email vs BB.. so its not quite as simple as people fearing change if they already have BB established.
@custel,
I am fortunate to have BB, Good, and Exchange and I must tell you now with a Pocket PC (PPC) there is nothing like Exchange 2007. BBConnect is limited on the features you can have with PPC, however it is great if you have a BlackBerry device. Good Technology takes over you PPC and it is very heavy on the resource side. However, you are looking for a single interface for various devices and don't care about any thing else on the device, then Good is excellent. With Exchange 2007, well you already have all of the tools you will need and there is no need for any additional client on the PPC. Overall if you are only concern with the e-mail part and nothing else, then they will all do the job and you ust have to pick one. In my case I prefer the Exhange push because I don't have to be bother with third party software.
I'm running BBconnect 4.0.0.67 with a BES service. BBC4 contains further security settings and services; giving me email, calendar, tasks, contacts note syncing and a blackberry browser.

whats the rom OS version (5.x.xxx), AKU and system version (found in the BBC about tab)?
I think we have similar requirements, this is how I set mine up for very little outlay
I also have my own business and this is the setup I am using and it works very well for me.
I Have a VPOP3 mail server (www.pscs.co.uk)
And each user has a mail2web account (the free one)
In Vpop3 I have it set so that each user's assistant is set to their mail2web account (this automatically forwards all mail to the mail2web account as well as leaving it in the users mailbox for when he downloads mail to his outlook on his pc. The only negatives is that when I send mail from my Hermes it shows my mail2web account but I use a signature on my device that informs the recipient that the mail was sent from my mobile and that they should please reply to the following account etc.
This solution works really well for me.
My Wife is on a corporate Blackberry server with a proper blackberry device and when I send a test mail to mine and her device mine gets the email withing 30 seconds where hers sometimes takes up to 15mins.

Thanks dude. I'll give them a try...
Edit: Hmmm I've tried that combination before and my BB 4 client is generating the same BB system version but I'm getting illegal pin. I wonder if RIM is checking device type as well as I'm on a Wizard...
Does BBConnect enable you to send and receive PIN messages? That's the one thing Exchange push lacks. It's a nice thing to fall back on should there be anything wrong with either the Exchange or BES servers.
Does anyone know how to get im+ to work through blackberry's connection? That is the 1 downfall for me because I stay connected all day which = no email since it goes through cingy connection, I tried to force bb connection always on with no luck...

On BES that will be a problem, as the connection is established with blackbery.net ( private, NAT'ed ). And it gets groped when any other edge/3g connection is requested.
Hello,
I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. We are upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 at my work, while testing Exchange 2010 I found out that activesync (push) email works great on iPhones and iPads, but not on my Droid Incredible . I can create the account just fine and manually refresh to see my mail, but if I have my exchange activesync email set to "as items arrive" and send myself a test email, I don't get it until I open up the email app and it refreshes.
I'm using the default htc email app, I have tried deleting and recreating my account several times. If I have the setting set to any thing else, like sync every 5 minutes it works just fine, but for some reason if it's set to as items arrive I won't get the email until I manually look at the email app. I can't deploy exchange 2010 with this going on as we have many other android users in the company.
Please help!
The Android native email application needs improvement no doubt. I use TouchDown as we have Exchange 2007 and are enforcing security policies. Those don't work too well with the native application.
Push works great, but it's a one time fee of $20, but in my opinion worth it.

Thanks RMarkwald! I downloaded and tried out TouchDown and it works great for Exchange 2010. At least I have a solution if users start complaining about push no longer working after we upgrade.
Hopefully htc will get an update out for this at some point because a simple thing like activesync should work on the stock email app.
Hey no problem! I think that the issue is more of an Android issue, not really HTC, cause it happens across the board. I've had nothing but issues before I purchased TD, and that was before we enabled PIN/security features. $20 is a lot, but my company purchased it for me, and I can use it on my Xoom without having to pay another $20, so IMO it's worth it.
Their support is great too, from the times I've contacted them with questions. I really like you can sync Tasks and manage your Out of Office too.
Help!
I'm having issues connecting my work emails to my phone. Our IT department says that android phones don't support the necessary policies to gain access. iPhones can connect no problem. And oddly Samsung Galaxy S3 is an enterprise ready phone it also works. Seeing how the Galaxy S3 works. I assume that the Galaxy Nexus also has the capability to work if I port the email.apk from the S3?
I ask because I want native support. (i.e. calendar sync, contacts, etc...) I'm using k-9 for now just for the emails. Let me know if anyone has any ideas. Thank!!!
Can you explain more? Are you unable to reach the server? Are you sure you have the correct server address? Do you have Active Sync enabled for your account on Exchange? I sync with Exchange 2007 with no problems.
The problem is I keep getting incorrect username password errors. And when I consulted with our IT department they explained to me it wasn't because I inputted anything in wrong. It was because there are certain Microsoft Exchange security policies that android doesn't support natively.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I don't think that's correct. What's the policy they are enforcing that Android doesn't support?
What ver. of Exchange are you on?
Exact Issue I am facing too . My pl can connect via his Iphone 4 but not me... Never it gets connected.

What version of Exchange? What policy isn't supported?
2010 exchange , Cannot connect simply on giving credentials.
I've never had a problem. Enter my domain\username and password and the server URL which is different from what it defaults to and I'm good.
Edit: Looks like it might be non-provisional devices?
Issue 2.1 - Failures to provision and synchronize with Android OS
Exchange ActiveSync policies can cause provisioning and synchronization to fail when the devices are customized. Devices are not provisioned if a policy that exceeds these limitations is applied to the users of these devices. This issue is discussed in comment 9 from the following post on the Google Android forum:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9426
Edit: Maybe get them to create a new policy for you. Should only take them a second.
Another alternative would be to use an app like TouchDown, it would also provide the added bonus of seperating your e-mail from your phone. If a pin is enforced, it's enforced in touchdown, not the whole phone. a remote wipe only kills touchdown, not the whole phone.. etc.
It's a bit pricey, but very worth it.

I use exchange 2010 no problem, and I just migrated a customer to exchange 2010 with a mixed iPhone/Android environment. If it's an authentication issue there are a couple of things to try:
-In the username make sure the format is DOMAIN\Username. So if your domain is ABC and your username is jsmith - it would be "ABC\jsmith" without the quotes.
-Make sure the servername is correct (i.e.: is the fqdn that can be resolved from 3G or from Wifi internally/externally - a lot of folks don't setup the correct DNS internally and mail.company.com may resolve to their website or something).
-Try checking/unchecking Use SSL, and Accept all SSL certificates. Using SSL is always best and Exchange 2010 requires it by default if I'm not mistaken, but unless you've got a trusted SSL certificate installed on the server you may have a problem...but nothing that can't be overcome by this.
-I'm assuming your user is allowed to use a mobile device since your IT person is troubleshooting.
I am a new owner of a 2013 Nexus 7. My work uses outlook exchange 2010. I have not been able to add my work exchange email. I am using the default email application. I have modified the the server settings, turned on remote wipe, made sure auto sync was on, and even factory restored it. Was there any tips anyone has for me or any solutions to get this to work.
Other things to note my coworkers original nexus 7 works perfectly with it, many other devices like iPhone and such can access it and my old 2.3 ginger bread phone can access it.
Thanks!
What kind of error, if any, are you getting? I currently have 2 different Exchange accounts running. One hosted by Office 365 (2013 maybe?) and one Exchange 2010 hosted a client's office. Both connected just fine.
Can you provide the settings that you're using for troubleshooting purposes?
You have to add a corporate account for Exchange or Hotmail/Outlook.com.
