[Q] Problem with exchange - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I am a new owner of a 2013 Nexus 7. My work uses outlook exchange 2010. I have not been able to add my work exchange email. I am using the default email application. I have modified the the server settings, turned on remote wipe, made sure auto sync was on, and even factory restored it. Was there any tips anyone has for me or any solutions to get this to work.
Other things to note my coworkers original nexus 7 works perfectly with it, many other devices like iPhone and such can access it and my old 2.3 ginger bread phone can access it.
Thanks!

What kind of error, if any, are you getting? I currently have 2 different Exchange accounts running. One hosted by Office 365 (2013 maybe?) and one Exchange 2010 hosted a client's office. Both connected just fine.
Can you provide the settings that you're using for troubleshooting purposes?

You have to add a corporate account for Exchange or Hotmail/Outlook.com.

[Q] Exchange 2010 and Droid Incredible Push

Hello,
I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. We are upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 at my work, while testing Exchange 2010 I found out that activesync (push) email works great on iPhones and iPads, but not on my Droid Incredible . I can create the account just fine and manually refresh to see my mail, but if I have my exchange activesync email set to "as items arrive" and send myself a test email, I don't get it until I open up the email app and it refreshes.
I'm using the default htc email app, I have tried deleting and recreating my account several times. If I have the setting set to any thing else, like sync every 5 minutes it works just fine, but for some reason if it's set to as items arrive I won't get the email until I manually look at the email app. I can't deploy exchange 2010 with this going on as we have many other android users in the company.
Please help!
The Android native email application needs improvement no doubt. I use TouchDown as we have Exchange 2007 and are enforcing security policies. Those don't work too well with the native application.
Push works great, but it's a one time fee of $20, but in my opinion worth it.

Thanks RMarkwald! I downloaded and tried out TouchDown and it works great for Exchange 2010. At least I have a solution if users start complaining about push no longer working after we upgrade.
Hopefully htc will get an update out for this at some point because a simple thing like activesync should work on the stock email app.
Hey no problem! I think that the issue is more of an Android issue, not really HTC, cause it happens across the board. I've had nothing but issues before I purchased TD, and that was before we enabled PIN/security features. $20 is a lot, but my company purchased it for me, and I can use it on my Xoom without having to pay another $20, so IMO it's worth it.
Their support is great too, from the times I've contacted them with questions. I really like you can sync Tasks and manage your Out of Office too.

Having some issues with the native email & MS Exchange.

Hi,
I just picked up this phone & am trying to get exchange working. It works fine on my OG Evo (and the 3d which I just returned) but not this phone.
Any ideas? I know I can probably use touchdown but I would prefer the native app for contacts, calendar.
Thanks,
Rich
MS Exchange
My wife got the E4GT on release date and had a problem with Exchange, also. She and the guy at Sprint tried for about 15 minutes to no avail. Finally, last night she started button-smashing and got it to work. Last night when she set up her Exchange account (school e-mail that uses Outlook Web Access) on her phone, she had to choose "Manual" then chose "Exchange", and it worked perfectly. She did have a problem with contacts from Outlook being listed several times and had to go through a whole 'nother ordeal to get them to merge with her Google contacts.
Hope this helps you!
Im all set too. My issue was my exchange server supports up to 10 mobile devices & I guess each time I setup a new rom, the server thought it was a new device. Anyway, I deleted some old devices & I am back in business.

[Q] Cannot set up Exchange mail sync

I just got my Gnex. It updated to Android 4.04. I try to set up email with my office Exchange account and it fails. The error message says "you don't have permission to sync with this server"
I'm using the same email exchange log in infromation as I have used on my Xoom. No problems there.
I tired using Touchdown and had the same results.
Any ideas?
Thanks

sounds like the server itself is rejecting your login.
maybe the company only allows one mobile device with your credentials?
i would remove exchange from your xoom and then try. if it allows you to connect then, there's your answer
I think that is unlikely.. I had a moto dinc syncing fine and upgraded to the nexus.
The dinc and zoom synced fine in parallel.. The dinc is now turned off.

that is the only thing I could think of.
It looks like the server is rejecting your login however.

There's an option to trigger the security certificates or something - forgot the exact wording, but when I tapped that, I could get into my office Exchange server.
Of course, I like to keep my office things in the office so I quickly disabled the email app.
Ya, there are two dialog boxes:
User secure connection (SSL)
Accept all SSL certificates
My Xoom account shows the first checked. The second not.
Using the same configuration - I get the message that I don't have permission to sync with the server.
When I check the Accept all SSL certificates - I get the same message.
When I go through the setup on my Xoom after completing the inputs - I get the following message:
'This server requires that you allow it to remotely control some security features of your Android device. Do you want to finish setting up this account?'
Is there something about ICS 4.04 running on the Gnex that would pose a problem with this security handshake?
I'm running an ICS 4.04 Cyanogen Mod nightly on my Xoom. I had Gingerbread on my Dinc before I switched to the Gnex. The email exchange sync worked fine on the Dinc.
When I have time I may root and load a custom ROM on it and see if that makes a difference. Although I'd prefer to stay stock for a while - just to get used to the thing.
If anyone has insight into the security issues - I'd appreciate hearing it. A quick Google search of issues relating to Exchange sync shows that there are issues with the Gnex and Exchange handshake. Some people have had to encrypt their phone to get it to work?!?
Certainly this must have been worked out by someone...
Thanks for any suggestions

That's a common message to see depending on the security policies your Exchange Server administrator has established. Among other things, for example, your company probably requires the ability to do a remote wipe of your handset's email should the account be compromised, your device be reported stolen, or you quit or be fired.
Perfectly normal. My company does this as well, and it works beautifully with my Galaxy Nexus...no device encryption needed, and I'm running ICS 4.0.4 IMM76K - one Exchange Server account via the stock email client, and one GMail account via that stock app. All works beautifully.

Just got 4.4, stock email acting weird

I've seen the threads about exchange syncing, but this is a little different so I have to ask. It downloads email from my website's mail server just fine (pop email connection). However unlike 4.3 and earlier, when I get home and download my mail off the server (no copies are left on the server), the stock email app does not remove these emails from itself. I end up having to delete from inbox and then from trash. Anyone know if this is intended new functionality or is it a bug similar to what I've been reading about it not syncing with Exchange?
Hmm apparently whatever was going on was temporary. It's actually working fine now.

[Q] Cant connect to exchange email account!

Hi everyone!
No matter how many times I try I can't get my g3 to connect to my work exchange email account.
I'm 100% sure all the info is correct. Works fine on my galaxy s4.
Anyone else having this issue? Might be a deal breaker for me if I can't get this working.

I just got a G3 today and had the same issue trying to setup my corporate email account. It looks like the email client is broken.
I downloaded "MailWise" from the play store and was up and running in a few minutes. I don't like having to use an additional email client, but at least it works.
Turns out my problem was related to my being an admin account on the exchange server. Had to enable permissions inheritance ok my account. Works now.

Oddly enough I tried it again this morning and it worked for me. I don't why I kept failing yesterday.
Exchange issues...
Hi all,
I got a very similar issue: I got my frame repaired (LG G3 case broke at microphone hole) with some potential upgrade to the latest software. Since then I can't access my exchange server anymore through the "built-in" email program! Access is still easy through all of my other devices (S3, Note 10.1)...
Only solution I found: The "Nine" app works very nicely (14 days free, US$9.99 therafter) and easily connects to the exachange server and leads to synchronization of emails, contacs, calendar, notes and tasks! So the problem lies within the Android 4.4.2 email program!
Let's cross fingers that Google is addressing / solving that issue soon!
Best regards, UP

Have you manually updated to the latest Google exchange apk? It's available in this post regarding the new Gmail 5.0 and Exchange 5.0 apks. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...-support-material-design-landed-apk-download/
Keep in mind that there is an ever newer version of the Gmail 5.0 apk that has been released, so double check your version number before updating that specific apk. But the exchange apk is the latest that has been released.
These updates have allowed me to connect to my work's Exchange server through gmail. So not only does the exchange connection seem to be working, the gmail app has been updated to allow these types of accounts to be added. It's nice to have one gmail interface where I can access all my gmail and exchange (and Imap, pop, etc) email accounts.

Hi,
I updated the email and the exchange APK files - all POP/IMAP access works fine but the exchange server is not reachable (it is, however, reachable via the browser app) - so I am still locked into the NINE app that works pretty nicely (I wonder why Google is not able to provide a similarly easy and functional app...).
