Hi,
I'm in Japan, and the (free) "Softbank Mail!" MMS app is the only one working at the moment. Problem is, they updated the software to 1.6 which was a huge step down from 1.5 . I didn't update, so I'm safe on my OpenDesire Rom.
I want to switch to Oxygen ROM, but I realized I don't have 1.5 version of softbanks Mail App. I am forced to download the new and unimproved 1.6 from the market.
So I want to make a copy of the 1.5 from my OpenDesire build to my PC, flash Oxygen, and install the 1.5 on Oxygen. Do-able? If so, what is the proper procedure for this (if I'm allowed to ask..?)
This app is 100% free, I am not attempting to pirate anything in any way shape or form, break any copywrite agreements, just want to use the (more) reliable version on a different ROM.
Have you tried using Root Explorer or adb and copy the apk from /system/app folder?
Oh, just adb will work? I can try that. I'll have to google root explorer, not sure what that is.
The app name on the market is different than the actual app when its on my phone. So i should just do adb pull mail?

Can you extract it from your opendesire rom zip and put it into the oxygen one before flashing?

have you tried backing it up with titanium back up and then installing the new rom, then installing titanium back up again and restoring your back up, in theory that should just keep the 1.5 version

Hi Mike, to be honest I haven't a clue as to how to do this. I would have to zip my OpenDesire in it's current state, extract, install on oxygen zip, resign, install on phone?

Hi vengeance, I purchased My Backup Pro a while back, ended up not using it because I couldn't figure it out (lack of options). I'll check into that one a bit more though.

Ok, if you haven't got the rom zip as a download you can do this..
Download 'Super Manager' from the market.
Using this you can backup the mms.apk that's currently in your opendesire rom.
Once backed up, copy it to your computer.
Download the Oxygen zip to your computer.
Open (don't extract) the oxygen zip and navigate to /system/app - I use 7zip to do this.
Drag the backed up mms.apk into the open oxygen zip so the opendesire one overwrites the oxygen one.
Close the oxygen zip and transfer it to your sdcard.
Install

Ok, used the backup program. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

I was using titanium backup to uninstall some system apps. and I accidentally uninstalled teeter. is there anyone who can help me reinstall this protected system app? I need to return the phone to my friend in a few days time.
I was coming from the point of view that I have a backup and can restore in the event of stupidity.
Today's lesson is - Don't mess with your friend's stuff
This should fix it...
-Find a Sense ROM from the Development section.
-Read the 1st post to make sure Teeter hasn't been removed.
-Download ROM to your PC.
-Open it with WinZip, WinRAR, 7zip etc
-Browse to \system\app\
-Locate Teeter.apk
-Copy to your PC and then move to phone SD card.
-Got to Market on phone and download ES File Explorer (or any app installer)
-Re-install Teeter.apk
Report back how you get on
Install failed. It says something about the app being a
system file.

Are you rooted, either perm or temp?
If you used temp root to get Titanium working then run Visionary to get temp root again and then try to install Teeter.
Yup i permrooted wth visionary. Reinstalling doesnt work.
I read in another post about directly copying the apk to /system/app/ then restarting. I am doing this now. Hope this works.

If you aren't S-OFF you can't write data to the /system partition, titanium uses an exploit to force the DHD to overwrite the app from recovery, and in that case my friend you are scr***d
Somehow i was able to write to /system/apps/ so i copied the apk and rebooted the phone. After restart i used titanium backup to restore. And teeter is back. Thanks for all the help.

even i did something foolish like this lol
but i deleted the htcclockwidget.apk (i was trying to delete the htc lock apk)
i had a previous backup of it so i wrote it to system/apps and changed the permissions to rw-r--r--. however when i go to personalize/widgets i cant find the clock widget there.
ive tried reflashing another sense rom (leedroid 1.4.1) but tht hasnt helped either...
i tried flashing a theme wich had the htclockscreen.apk but tht also didnt work
i tried fixing permissions in cwn but still tht doesnt work
wat can i do to get the clock widget back??
i dont have a recent nandroid backup either
EDIT: got it working again.... .i went to manage applications, then htc sense and clear data.... all my shortcuts and mods on the homescreens went but i got the widgets working again
I need some stock apps anybody ever made a backup of their stock apps? (and is willing to share?)

Hey guys,
I come to this site quite a bit but only just made an account to ask this question. I have the Desire HD with android 2.3.3 and sense 2.1. Now I've been trying to install some skins onto my phone, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've done it before a while ago and it worked fine, I have no idea what the problem is now.
So I move the .apk onto my SD card into a folder called "skins", and using Astro, I select install. It seems to install it fine, but the skins just never show up in the skin picker. I've tried deleting the data for skin picker and rebooting and re downloading and moving the files but nothing seems to work :/ any ideas?
Thanks in advance guys, keep up the good work
Are the skins for sense 2.1? There's a few skins here you can try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048894
yeah they are, that's actually the thread I got the skins from, and also the skins I successfully installed a while ago

Stock or custom rom? Rooted or not?
It can give more info for finding a solution for you.
Um I haven't rooted yet, I'm not sure I will but everything is stock.

Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done from your side if it is not rooted and stock.
Last thing though, are you using the stock package installer? or Astro installer?
If you are using astro installer try using the stock installer instead.
Last resort is to factory reset and try again.
Thanks for the help, its just that I've installed skins this way before? I'm not entirely sure whether that was before or after the 2.3 update though.... Also, how do I use the stock installer to install the file that's on my SD card? I'm currently using Astro because its how I view the files on the card.

Does it give you an option to chose which installer when you open the apk? if not, then it is running the stock package installer. And at that point you have 2 choices.
1. Re-download another 2.1 skin and try installing and if fails... quit
2. Factory reset and see if that sorts out the problem.
I was wondering if there is a skin (or 2) that I like on one Sense 3.0 ROM, could I download it from the ROM I'm currently running using Root Explorer & install it on another Sense 3.0 ROM?
If so, how would I install the skin on the other ROM??
Just use Root Explorer to put the .apk file in data/apps?
Or .zip them up & flash them in recovery?
Thanks.
Simply .zip-ing it wouldn't do anything without an updater-script. Your best bet would be data/apps and adjust any permissions if need be then reboot

cool, thanks.
If it's an apk, you could just back it up with Titanium Backup. TB will backup system apks & restore them. I'm not sure if this is only available in the pro version as that's what I use. While restoring system apps across roms is generally a no-no, I think it would be fine with something like a theme.
Or you can pull the app with Root Explorer and reinstall it.

Thanks for the link, when you say flash the it? flash the gapps using clockworkmod?
Yes, put the file on the root of your SD card and flash it as you would do with any other rom.
ROM Manager premium can download Gapps on the phone and flash it for you, piece of cake.
<--CM7
Having same question
Do CM7 users just don't use Market to get apps?
get g apps from cm official site.. put it in your sd card and flash it using cwm
and then you will have market installed on your devce with all other google apps

Thanks for the reply, I have now flashed gapps. I have now a market. but my gmail and youtube is always force closing. any ideas?

Hello,
first of all, i do not want offense any of authors who created all those great custom ROMs out there. Im just interested in one thing. After i downloaded and used for a while some custom ROM from forums, ive downloaded some other apps from market and i want to use them instead of those which are on original ROM. Is there any way to remove those parts of that ROM and put as default the new ones and create my own zip (for backup and comfort reasons)? So, some customizing of already custom ROM is my target

If you've already installed the ROM, then titanium backup is your friend. You can uninstall any preinstalled apps that you don't want.
If you want to edit before flashing, unzip the ROM, delete any apps that you do not want and then zip it back and flash.

So when i unzip it i can delete. Can i add apps i want to have included as well? The point is, friend of me (you wont believe but yes, hes more lame than me in this area) asked me if he can get the exact ROM with same apps as i have, so i told him that maybe i can create own ROM to share it to him..

If you have the apk files, yes. You need to zip align it though.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
You don't have to unzip. Just use something like 7zip, double click the Rom.zip, don't extract. Then add/remove apps from system/app by dragging/ deleting apk files. You can delete other unnecessary things like ringtones and languages in the other system folders. Just don't touch system critical files.
Then close 7zip to update, no need to unzip and re zip and align etc
Some apps don't work in system, don't know why. Also need to check that the extracted system size will fit into your hboot system, otherwise it won't boot.
When meeting around with roms like this, especially important you nandroid backup before flashing if you don't already!
Never unzip to remove apps or anything else for that matter, if you unzip it, and then zip the unpacked directory you wont be able to flash it.
Just open the .zip file and delete whatever you want directly from it.
You can try total commander from market, if you would like to do that directly on your phone.
