I was wondering if there is a skin (or 2) that I like on one Sense 3.0 ROM, could I download it from the ROM I'm currently running using Root Explorer & install it on another Sense 3.0 ROM?
If so, how would I install the skin on the other ROM??
Just use Root Explorer to put the .apk file in data/apps?
Or .zip them up & flash them in recovery?
Thanks.
Simply .zip-ing it wouldn't do anything without an updater-script. Your best bet would be data/apps and adjust any permissions if need be then reboot

cool, thanks.
If it's an apk, you could just back it up with Titanium Backup. TB will backup system apks & restore them. I'm not sure if this is only available in the pro version as that's what I use. While restoring system apps across roms is generally a no-no, I think it would be fine with something like a theme.
Or you can pull the app with Root Explorer and reinstall it.

Hi,
I'm in Japan, and the (free) "Softbank Mail!" MMS app is the only one working at the moment. Problem is, they updated the software to 1.6 which was a huge step down from 1.5 . I didn't update, so I'm safe on my OpenDesire Rom.
I want to switch to Oxygen ROM, but I realized I don't have 1.5 version of softbanks Mail App. I am forced to download the new and unimproved 1.6 from the market.
So I want to make a copy of the 1.5 from my OpenDesire build to my PC, flash Oxygen, and install the 1.5 on Oxygen. Do-able? If so, what is the proper procedure for this (if I'm allowed to ask..?)
This app is 100% free, I am not attempting to pirate anything in any way shape or form, break any copywrite agreements, just want to use the (more) reliable version on a different ROM.
Have you tried using Root Explorer or adb and copy the apk from /system/app folder?
Oh, just adb will work? I can try that. I'll have to google root explorer, not sure what that is.
The app name on the market is different than the actual app when its on my phone. So i should just do adb pull mail?

Can you extract it from your opendesire rom zip and put it into the oxygen one before flashing?

have you tried backing it up with titanium back up and then installing the new rom, then installing titanium back up again and restoring your back up, in theory that should just keep the 1.5 version

Hi Mike, to be honest I haven't a clue as to how to do this. I would have to zip my OpenDesire in it's current state, extract, install on oxygen zip, resign, install on phone?

Hi vengeance, I purchased My Backup Pro a while back, ended up not using it because I couldn't figure it out (lack of options). I'll check into that one a bit more though.

Ok, if you haven't got the rom zip as a download you can do this..
Download 'Super Manager' from the market.
Using this you can backup the mms.apk that's currently in your opendesire rom.
Once backed up, copy it to your computer.
Download the Oxygen zip to your computer.
Open (don't extract) the oxygen zip and navigate to /system/app - I use 7zip to do this.
Drag the backed up mms.apk into the open oxygen zip so the opendesire one overwrites the oxygen one.
Close the oxygen zip and transfer it to your sdcard.
Install

Ok, used the backup program. Worked like a charm. Thanks!
Sorry if this is out there but I am using version 10 of Miui camera and would like to upgrade to 17 to get fcc support... Anyone guide me on pushing this apk out instructions on how to get this over...i tried renaming the apk to Camera.apk and using root explorer and moving file to system/app but didn't work... Thanks!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You can use adb to pull the apk from the system, or use root explorer to copy it to the sd card, then rename it to Camera [already.apk] Then rename/delete the CM7 camera.apk. and use root explorer to copy the new one to the system app folder.
Found out had to change permissions on the file but now that it sees the new apk it just force closes when try to open.

Do you have both apps or just the one?
It just showed the one

You may want to just update the rom, unless there's some reason you're sticking with an older version. I'm on 1.5.20, FFC on the MIUI camera (not sure of the app version). MIUI is kind of like Sense in that so much of the rom-specific apps are tied into the framework, and more than the apk has to be changed to make it work... if it can be made to work. A lot of changes have been made to the ui in the last few months.
Also, the MIUI camera is named miuicamera.apk, so you may want to try that. Also try the MIUI thread or the miui-us forums. I thought I saw a flashable zip of the new camera for people on older versions, but it could be wishful thinking on your behalf.
What version are you running, and are you against updating? You can always nandroid, flash, and then restore if you don't like it.

okay so i dont really like sense's transition animations so i started searching for some new ones and came up with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920024
decided to share it with the G2/DZ community cause i know some of you guys dont like sense transitions either
im using virtous unity, i dont see why it woudnt work on any other rom
REMEMBER TO MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE DOING THIS just so if you want the original transitions back or if anything goes wrong or if your rom is not compatible etc
i recommend using the metamorph method, its way easier
for those who arent familiar with metamorph u can dl it for free on the market and do the following:
1-download the transition youd like from here :
https://bitly.com/bundles/haxzamatic/1?preview=1
2-place the zip in the root of the sdcard (or any other folder you want)
3-open metamorph and select Unzip/Extract new theme
4-go to the root of your sdcard or the folder you made and select the zip
metamorph will extract the zip and a new window will pop up select close (pretty much your only choice)
5- tap where it says SubTheme: framework-res.apk
Located in /system/framework/
(Requires Reboot)
your device will reboot and there you have it new transitions!!
im using the fold ones myself and they look amazing!!
awesme.thanks
nice work. thanks
bumping !

I tried this action but it did not work. I also think it screwed with the backlight on my keyboard? I realize this should happen but that is only thing I can think of that would have done it. Is there any way to reverse this?

if you restored your backup its like if you never tried this on your phone, so its something you did before or it can be due to the ROM youre using

can anyone gave me??
Flash stock ROM, use Titanium Backup to backup all System apps and restore them in your custom ROM. Titanium Backup is your answer.
well,i've use TB..
but i dunno what the name of aplication to be restored
I might be wrong but I think you can't backup odexed system apps with TB. It just never restores. o-o
Wait uploading.

You Are Correct Silvane, Only way to reinstall app is to push it via adb, or flash it, or include it in the zip file of the custom rom you will be using
Pushing them to system with root explorer apps work though.

These are all deodexed stock apk's. I wasn't sure which apk's you needed so I just dumped them all in. No stock email apk btw. Just gmail.

flash it? did you mean with cwm? or odin? (i heven't any experience with odin )
include that? how???
No you don't flash it. It's just a bunch of apk's in a zip file. Copy/paste the apk's you need to system/app then change permissions to rw-r--r-- then reboot.

I've removed some programs through root uninstaller. Such as gmail. I didn't make backups.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Probably have to wipe data and reinstall roms or try flashing a Gapps package.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
some apps, such as gmail, can be downloaded from the market. For others have you tried pulling the apks from your rom.zip and placing them in /system/app?
While it is normally fine to remove certain system apps (I routinely strip down every rom I install of certain apps), getting them back can be a pain sometimes if you're not sure how to do it. Another way to achieve the same goal is to 'freeze' all the apps you don't want to use. They won't show in the app list and they won't run in the background but they will still be there if you ever need them.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I would wipe data if it doesn't work reflash the rom.
Some of the stuff you may have removed may be best resolved by reflashing the build that you're using. For example, I use Gmail and another mail app, no need for Exchange or the stock email. I used to not back these up so when I actually needed to test something it was off to ODIN my phone again . Now I use TB and back it up before I remove it.
This is very simple to fix. It should never be a pain to accomplish either.
1: Find the apps you want to restore in the rom you flashed (if you don't have the original .zip, download it or a similar rom). Use 7zip or WinRAR to open the rom file.
2. Copy the apps you want to your sdcard.
3. Use Root Explorer or similar app to move or copy the apps to /system/app (you will need to make sure your file explorer can mount the /system in rw)
4. Reboot and enjoy
Basically you just want to pull the apps from a copy or the rom you flashed or a similar one (ICS>ICS GB>GB). Then move those apps to /system/app and reboot. The phone will reinstall them when it boots back up.
