How do I reinstall stock apps? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using titanium backup to uninstall some system apps. and I accidentally uninstalled teeter. is there anyone who can help me reinstall this protected system app? I need to return the phone to my friend in a few days time.
I was coming from the point of view that I have a backup and can restore in the event of stupidity.

Today's lesson is - Don't mess with your friend's stuff
This should fix it...
-Find a Sense ROM from the Development section.
-Read the 1st post to make sure Teeter hasn't been removed.
-Download ROM to your PC.
-Open it with WinZip, WinRAR, 7zip etc
-Browse to \system\app\
-Locate Teeter.apk
-Copy to your PC and then move to phone SD card.
-Got to Market on phone and download ES File Explorer (or any app installer)
-Re-install Teeter.apk
Report back how you get on

Install failed. It says something about the app being a
system file.

Are you rooted, either perm or temp?
If you used temp root to get Titanium working then run Visionary to get temp root again and then try to install Teeter.

Yup i permrooted wth visionary. Reinstalling doesnt work.
I read in another post about directly copying the apk to /system/app/ then restarting. I am doing this now. Hope this works.

If you aren't S-OFF you can't write data to the /system partition, titanium uses an exploit to force the DHD to overwrite the app from recovery, and in that case my friend you are scr***d

Somehow i was able to write to /system/apps/ so i copied the apk and rebooted the phone. After restart i used titanium backup to restore. And teeter is back. Thanks for all the help.

hi
even i did something foolish like this lol
but i deleted the htcclockwidget.apk (i was trying to delete the htc lock apk)
i had a previous backup of it so i wrote it to system/apps and changed the permissions to rw-r--r--. however when i go to personalize/widgets i cant find the clock widget there.
ive tried reflashing another sense rom (leedroid 1.4.1) but tht hasnt helped either...
i tried flashing a theme wich had the htclockscreen.apk but tht also didnt work
i tried fixing permissions in cwn but still tht doesnt work
wat can i do to get the clock widget back??
i dont have a recent nandroid backup either
EDIT: got it working again.... .i went to manage applications, then htc sense and clear data.... all my shortcuts and mods on the homescreens went but i got the widgets working again

I need some stock apps anybody ever made a backup of their stock apps? (and is willing to share?)

[Q] Titanium will not update or uninstall (fixed)

So for the past few weeks I have not been able to get titanium to update, I went to uninstall and it fails to uninstall. Anyone with any ideas? I know I could wipe but my last backup I was already having titanium problems, and it's not worth starting from scrach for one program. Maybe someone knows how to delete manually could help me out that way? I am using the donate ver. Thanks for whatever info you guys can lay on me.
Oddly, my Titanium has had a problem a few times, lately, where it won't do a back up or restore. You select one or the other, and it just switches to the list of apps.
I noticed that clearing data in Application Manager seems to fix the problem, but I hope the dev for this app figures out a fix soon.
Anyhow, you can remove it via Root Explorer, reboot, then reinstall it.
Uninstalling it will not remove your backups.
I was going to remove with rootexplore but what files do I need to delete and keep?

Don't forget trying to update busy box. That has solved a few titanium problems for me in the past.

It should be in /system/app/
or do a search for titanium and remove whatever comes up
Thanks for the help guys. I did try updating busybox, that didn't fix it.
I deleted files in the app folder, that didn't help. Then i used the search in root explorer deleted only files that were not on my SD card. Re-booted, installed titanium (install worked this time) went to market and was able to download and update. So all is good. Thanks again guys!

integration of downloaded apks into rom.

dudes does any one know how to integrate any downloaded apks( those with a backup copy) into cm7 #177 or any other rom from the phone itself( conditioning that the rom is currently installed and running) . i know ther is an option in titanium backup latest version, but it implies only to integration of updates of system applications only. but i need to integrate downloaded/ installed app to the current rom. is there any apps available in market or some where else which can do what i need? i ask becose i know rom cooking is a hard process and that needs an update flashing. so i just want to avoid it. or can i do it with adb with a mounted system partition? can any body help me?
to moderators:- if i posted this thread in wrong section, pls move to appropriate section. as i know it is a question topic, but i put it here due to the reason that it is some thing about rom cooking/ updating.

not exactly adding into zip. but need to add into the currently installed rom, all the way from phone itself( more convenient) or from a computer.

I tried this moving of downloaded apk to system app long time back.
It has both positive and negative effects. By moving an app to system , it loads everytime the system boots making the startup slower. And by moving apps to system u don't need to reinstall those apps on hard reset.
To move a downloaded app to system just move the apk from /data/app to /system/app and change its permissions to rw-r-r. Then clear the application data and cache (also dalvik cache). Then restart the phone to check whether the app is working or not. One thing is recommended. Donot rename the apk. Most of the apk names in /data/app will be like com.xyz.abc. Eventhough most apks I tried worked with any name.
And inspite of doing all these some apps will not work when moved to system partition. Perfect examples are "x-plore" , "swype" , "operamini".

[Q] og incredible on 2.3.4(s-on)bloatware help

followed the tutorial for the unrevoked rooting method..(mad props to all involved)
okay so my question is, im on the stock rom(2.3.4) rooted with HBOOT.92 and obviously have root acces, i want to get rid of a bunch of bloatware, vcast, app sharing ect ect.
in the past i had a htc eris and used root explorer and deleted all the bloat from the system/app folder and seemed to work flawless. i tried that but they are still there, then used titanium pro to uninstall them but no go, then i created a filter name "bloat" and melted it. well now the app are uninstalled but still are in my apps screen. i then tried to use root explorer again and they are not to be found in the system/app folder, i have a backup so io am not worried.
any suggestions on how to get rid of these bloatware, or could you recommend a rom low on memory usage that is close to stock rom, or maybe some nice visualized roms that are not to big on the memory.
This might sound obvious but did you reboot after deleting the apps?

Get S-Off then try removing the apps again.
Hope this helps...
You dont need s-off to remove apps just root. Deleting the apks with root explorer should work.

according to the tut,""*at this point, you could just enjoy root access without doing anything else. if all you care about is using a couple of root only apps, and deleting some bloatware, you can remain rooted and s-on if youd like.""

I had this happen when 2.3 first came out, and I went to delete the apps and they'd just reappear on reboot. Installing busybox fixed my issue then.
Good luck!
well i think i may have figured it out, used this app System App remover, couldn't uninstall anything but disabled all the stuff i wanted to, then used root explorer to delete apk's in system/app.
installed busy box but didn't notice anything different.
Just flash a new rom. If you want something like stock or better I suggest any rom by Heyitslou, skyraider, or newtoroot sense 3.0 or lower.

you don't need to do any of that.
Using root explorer:
Delete the .apk files from BOTH system/app AND data/app.
Reboot into recovery.
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
Reboot
Be patient as your phone rebuilds the cache and dalvik cache. Once you get to the unlock screen, wait another minute or two.
enjoy.
much love my friend

First thing first: do you have full permission to write/rewrite /system/? If your phone doesn't have its bootloader unlocked or S-OFF, you have to remove the app from the flashable zip before you flash it.

Hi,
I don't know if this will help but I used to have uninstall issues but finally managed to uninstall using Titanium Backup. Open up Titanium Backup, let it do its checks & when everything is fine (busybox, root permissions, etc) go to the Backup / Restore tab which shows all your applications. Long hold the app you want to uninstall and a menu should come up. Scroll down the menu and choose 'Force remove app (by recovery exploit)' and this should reboot your phone twice, running some code on recovery in between the boots, and after the second boot the application should be gone.
I'm rooted but S-ON and this works for me. I have Titanium Pro though so I don't know if this is available to pro-only. I also tried this on my dad's HTC Desire with S-ON but it failed at recovery - he's on Amon Ra and it rejects cos of unsigned certs. I'm on CWM and didn't have this problem.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the reply I didn't get to try this my mt3g slide broke before I could but do you know if it will work with the stock recovery on my new phone we don't have cwm recovery yet

App extractor

I am looking for an app that will let me pull a system apk from a backup of my system using cwm. I have tried nandroid manager, app extractor, and a couple others that I don't remember the name of and none of them are working for me. Nandroid manager says that it successfully restored the app I wanted, but it didn't really do it. I have also tried titanium back up, and it's not restoring the app either. It's a system app if that makes any difference.

TB might do the trick for you. I just checked, and under the MENU
Then under special backup/restore
I know it works with twrp, Might work with CWM too. Never actually pulled one from there, but there is an option to grab the apk
Good Luck
edit: odd, searched with root explorer and was not able to find the apk i yanked from TB nandroid

I've tried TB, both restoring the app and extracting the app from a backup. Neither worked. TB spent 30 minutes restoring this app before I canceled it.

Ok so flashed back to my stock rooted backup and used the app Appwererabbit and it allowed me to make a copy of the apk that I wanted. The I flashed back to my current rom and tried installing it, but the install failed. I'm guessing because it was a system app. So I placed it in the system app folder and still nothing. Is there a way to install this without using a pc and pushing it with ADB?

And are you currently using a sense rom?
