I just updated to the new froyo update for those of you who did it know how little space it comes with so I need to do apps to sd and I have no idea how to do it. I need help real bad. I was doing the tuturial of the guy on the developers page on page one..I think his name was dark something or other. And I got to the part where it asked me to partition the sd card under the partitions menu and there is no partions menu in my clockwork mod recovery. So that's where I need help. Someone please help me? Thanks in advance!
The only way you can partition directly from Clockwork is if you flash CW3 with S-Off, Although you can use ROM Manager and there is an option that says, Partition SD Card, It will then boot into CW and partitition the SD card, You don't need CW3 for the ROM Manager option.

What is s-off exactly? And how do I do it or know if I'm already in it?

You'd know if you had S-OFF on your phone as there is a specific procedure to get it.
S-OFF removes the NAND lock present on the phone. Search the forums for more info about it.

I did it in CWM 2.5. It's in advanced settings I think. But it only went up to 250 megs or something. CW3 lets you partition up to 4 gigs.

Get a SD card reader?
i don't have one, is there another procedure through the phone?
No need for card reader. I did it using the one in rom manager, but as you are not able to use this, i would go with the pushed recovery from the older rooting methods from modaco. You just enter the black recovery screen with the !
Then your insert the cable, and run a batch file on your computer. This recovery should have the ability to partitionate.
just search for the r5 root or pm me for link (cant post links as i'm a new user)
You must use the file called "recovery-windows.bat" or the one for your system.
but if you have clockwork installed, the black screen with <!> will not appear becaus clockwork recovery is loaded automaticly.
if i push the recovery from the r5-root img (while beeing in clockwork recovery) it seems like there are both recoverys running at the same time.
how can i uninstall clockwork recovery or block it from beeing autostarted ?
It doesn't. Normally it boots into normal recovery, and then you have to apply update.zip (which is Clockwork Recovery). THEN it boots into CMR.
ye it is because you have flashed the unrevoked permanent recovery. I prefer the fakeflash as it is easy to change and work just as well.
In that case if there is another easy method to format the sd other than using your computer. I have seen som suggestions on using the amonra recovery.. You could try that.
And i only think you can remove the permanent recovery by flashing stock ruu for now, but then you will have to reroot, as it also unroot the device.
pain in the arse isn't it.. I came across this exact dilemma today
hopefully the unrevoked guys will sense this and make some changes on their next release?
Ok managerd to do it by flashing the ROM
Thanks for your help guys

Hi, my phone got bricked using GPart live to turn my ext 2 into a 3 partition. Everything went fine using the program, turned off Usb storage, went into market and tried to download a program, when it started to install the screen when black.
Now I cant boot with sdcard in, I don't come past the white HTC screen
Without SDcard it starts loading the system but the loading is a never ending loop.
Tried to format SD with fakeflash, dosent help
Tried reflashing my rom with wipe and everything, dosent help
Any ideas?
did you convert it while the phone was in Android or while it was in recovery?

yes that would be why

you should have thought about it.
only thing I can think of is trying to flash a official HTC RUU update so you will get back to stock and will have to re-root.
If you have wiped everything and re-flashed then I dont know what else to suggest.

Yeah, I guess that its my best chance. Do you know which files that has to be on the SD for fake-flash and where I can find them?
just need the update.zip on the root of the card.
Have u tryed using AM recovery?
If u load it like the clockwork recovery u can partiotion your sd-card in recovery mode,
works every time for me ;-)
http://www.multiupload.com/61STV8CPHL <-- fake flash version just like clockwork but whit partitioning options.

Yes that could work, if the ROM you have flashed requires a ext partition, it will boot loop if you dont have a SD card in. So use clockwork to re-partition the card with a ext.

Im on DeFrost right now, does it require ext? I have to find a micro sd reader then I get right on partitioning.
Edit: I've been thinking if this don't work. Is it possible for someone to make an image of their full rom so that I can try and flash that? Because what I've understood the ones that are up for downloading e.g. DeFrost are not 100% complete.
Maybe some developer know's what could cause a boot loop so I (with some help) could make a flash containing just those files.
u can also try booting recovery, mount SD-USB..
remove update.zip from your root sd.
Place the file i posted above in your root (rename to update.zip ofc's)
Restart phone and enter recovery again (now u get a new recovery) go to partition menu and repartition your SD.
I loooove this forum! Thanks for all the help people, reformat the sd solved my problem. Thanks a thousand times!
HI,
I have a rooted Desire running Pinky Rom
I recently bought a new 16GB card and am having problems with i. I formatted it throught the recovery menu and have copied over all the files from the old SD card.
However, now when I put in the new card the phone gets stick on the White HTC initial screen.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
(The old SD card was partitioned but I was going to do that through ROM manager and restore my apps through Titanium)
Thanks
That'll be the problem, old data needed by the ROM will be on the old SD card. You'll need to wipe and start again (or partition it using Amon RA/GParted)

So basically go into Recovery, and wipe everything, and then try and re-install the ROM using the new card?
Just a wipe should be fine - the ROM should then start and you can then partition it. I'd, personally, change to Amon RA and partition it before the first boot of the ROM but that's just me...
I say this in that it should work after a wipe BUT I'd wait for confirmation first. I assume if you put your old card in it works fine?
Yeah old card works as normal.
Will try the wipes (left the new card at home so will have to wait until after work!)
Never heard of Amon RA so will google that now and try and figure out what it is!
It's another custom recovery, like Clockwork Mod...I use it now as it has more options than Clockwork Mod - search for it on here, it's in the Developers forum
Amon-ra is arguably the best recovery around and on many android devices is the only option (or the only option everyone uses).
Excuse my ignorance, but it is an app that I download?
No, its a custom recovery like Clockwork Mod

Right,
I wiped it, and then the phone got by the white screen. I had to reset my APN settings as they were blank but managed that.
But I am now getting an Error manage when I try and connect to WIFI.
I have searched around here and all the problems seem to relate to updates to 2.2 and gold cards.
My phone was already on 2.2 and I have never used a goldcard in my life....not even sure what one is.
Anyone any ideas how to fix this??
Thanks guys
Hi,
I am having some real problems with my Desire. I was using T-Mod (Leedroid) but thought I'd try out the RCMix ROM this arvo so I did all my backups and a Nandroid backup. I was using CWM 2.5.0.7 and this was fine before but I tried to flash RCMix on and it didn't work. I then tried to upgrade CWM to 3.2.0.8 unsuccessfully. I even tried upgrading from ext3 to ext4 and I formatted my 16GB SD card but that didn't help either.
I have not been able to upgrade anything yet and my phone will not even boot up stock. It is not letting me do any installs of zips, it says no files found and it won't let me do any Nandroid restores either.
So I am stuck with a useless phone that I can't even temporarily use because it won't boot past the Telstra boot screen. I can only get into bootloader and recovery. I have wiped everything but can't get anything to work. I am S-ON.
Can anybody help me? I'm at a loss and have been googling and trying things for hours upon hours tonight. It would be great just to even get back to stock....
Format your SD card (copy content to PC first!), go to fastboot and then try RUU from Telstra...
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using Tapatalk
The Telstra RUU didn't work because it's too old. I'm downloading the downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 right now, so I'll try that and see what happens.
Any ideas why CWM can't see the zip files on my sd card?
Corrupted data perhaps...? Try formating your sd (all partitions - if any ext3/4) and rebuild your partitions... It should work...by your intel, it must be an sd card problem, have you tried another one...?
Sent from my cool Desire
I tried formatting it a few times. I tried both ext3 and also ext4 but it still couldn't see the zip files. I also formatted the FAT32 part. I used Gparted to do it with the FAT32 partition at the left and ext3/4 on the right. I tried it at 2GB but it didn't like it so I tried 1.8GB and then it recognised the ext3/4 part but still can't see the zip files.
Just finished downloading the downgrade so will try that now.
Perhaps something is wrong with my sdcard..?
The downgrade failed but I've managed to flash RCMix on with a different 2GB sdcard. I have tried to use the other card again but CWM still can't find any files on it for some reason. Gparted is also not loading it anymore so perhaps that 16GB sdcard is dead. Looks like I'm going to need to buy a new 16GB sdcard so I can store my music on there again as 1GB is being used for the ext3 partition.
Does this sound about right, that the sdcard is dead?
I can still use and access it in windows, it just won't work on the phone.
I found that if the cards file system is on the way out cwm nicely wipes it for me. If after several formats its the same, it may well be a dead card
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah ok, I've formatted it numerous times and it still won't read any zips. I wasted so much time when all I had to do was use another sdcard....sucks so much.
Also how do I permanently upgrade CWM from 2.5.0.7? I have to keep fake flashing 3.2.0.8 at the moment.
I was thinking when I get my new sdcard that I'll try and do S-OFF. Is it worth it? Should I bother?
Oh god yeah. Fake flash has so many flaws. S-off and fastboot flash recovery.img. see fastboot faq in my signature
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok thanks, I'll try S-OFF and flash a new recovery.img when I get a new sdcard.
Which version of CWM is best to use? I was going to use 3.2.0.8 because that's what was said to use with RCMix.
I use 5.0.2.0 for some time now and I haven't had any problems at all.

And why not? You get errors?
I did have some issues but never mind all that now. I bought a new 16gb card today and am now S-OFF thanks to the revolutionary method and have flashed cwm 5.0.2.0, a new splash img and boot animation. Now to set up the rest of my phone. I'm a happy chappy!
I have recently downgraded my HTC which was T-Mobile Branded. Ruinning android 2.2.2 and had HBOOT 0.93.
I downgraded the phone in order to root it, so i followed this tutorial successfully. It worked fine on downgraded firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
I then rooted phone using unrevoked. which was not compaitable with firmware, 2.2.2
I then S-off the phone using Alpha 1.8
I then looked around for some roms, Now the issue is whenever, i attempt to install a rom which involves sense. It installs successfully, but then the bootscreen just continues in a loop.
This can be resolved by restoring back to the downgraded firmware?
Now my question is what is the possible cause of this bootloop and sense roms etc?
any suggestions are much appreciated
You didn't read the instructions carefully. Those Sense roms requires ext partition on the sd card.

I forgot to mention, with or without partitioning i have no luck. With partition it just freezes at boot screen. Whereas, without partition, it is in a loop.
Yea...first boot can take up to 30 minutes.

Did you wipe system partitions prior to flashing? Also did you check what hboot type the rom requires? Stock hboot, cm7r2 hboot, etc.
Try to download Cyanogenmod7 rom here http://get.cm/?device=bravo&type=
Flash this and see if this boots up for you. If you are s-off and is using custom recovery already then you don't really need to go through the whole process again.

Thanks, for the reply. This is an e.g of the rom sense roms i have tried.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431908 and runnyrom which both have similar results.
I have just installed Cyanogenmod7 which installs and functions properly.
and have tried this rom which works fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355660
i seem to only face such problems with sense Roms?
I assume the HBOOT is related to the alpha 1.8 which i used to S-OFF.
Im confused as i have the Desire S and have not had such problems before? It normally takes no longer than 5 mins to be up and running with the desire s. However, it seems to be the opposite with this desire?
Tell me what recovery are you using? I haven't used ICS roms in a long while so I'm not sure if it implements the use of sd ext partition out of the box. I feel it's your sd-ext partition (or the lack of it) is the problem.
I suggest to look for 4EXT recovery. It's in the desire forums just do a search. Download the apk and sideload it to your device on a running rom like Cyanogenmod it will replace your current recovery. Use 4ext recovery to partition your sd card. Make sure you backup your sd card to your computer before doing anything.

I just installed 4EXT recover and will post results back.
Just a brief question having just browsed the Alpha webpage http://alpharev.nl/
and have realised a partition table, now i am wondering if that has any influence on the installation of Roms
i Currently have a 1gb Mem partitioned to 126? if this is having effect on it not booting?
just to be sure what partition size would you recommend for sense roms?
thanks

Alpharev is for hboots - Stock, Data++, Cm7r2, Oxgenr2, etc
SD ext - for your sd card. safe bet is to have 1gb-2gb of ext partition size.
If you just have 126mb for your ext partition then obviously you don't have the minimum requirement for Sense roms to run.

When partitioning the memory card It asks to create two separate partitions and if i am correct the 3rd time for the exchange memory?
Ill try attempting with a larger memory card. But what would you recommend in terms of the last partition created related to exchange memory?
thanks.
when u goto tools/partition sdcard, choose this, its probably the most common setup for roms -
1024
skip
skip
then choose ext4
and ur done, dont forget backup anything important on sdcard coz it will wipe everything on it.
