New SD Card - stuck on white screen - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI,
I have a rooted Desire running Pinky Rom
I recently bought a new 16GB card and am having problems with i. I formatted it throught the recovery menu and have copied over all the files from the old SD card.
However, now when I put in the new card the phone gets stick on the White HTC initial screen.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
(The old SD card was partitioned but I was going to do that through ROM manager and restore my apps through Titanium)
Thanks

That'll be the problem, old data needed by the ROM will be on the old SD card. You'll need to wipe and start again (or partition it using Amon RA/GParted)

So basically go into Recovery, and wipe everything, and then try and re-install the ROM using the new card?

Just a wipe should be fine - the ROM should then start and you can then partition it. I'd, personally, change to Amon RA and partition it before the first boot of the ROM but that's just me...
I say this in that it should work after a wipe BUT I'd wait for confirmation first. I assume if you put your old card in it works fine?

Yeah old card works as normal.
Will try the wipes (left the new card at home so will have to wait until after work!)
Never heard of Amon RA so will google that now and try and figure out what it is!

It's another custom recovery, like Clockwork Mod...I use it now as it has more options than Clockwork Mod - search for it on here, it's in the Developers forum

Amon-ra is arguably the best recovery around and on many android devices is the only option (or the only option everyone uses).

Excuse my ignorance, but it is an app that I download?

No, its a custom recovery like Clockwork Mod

Right,
I wiped it, and then the phone got by the white screen. I had to reset my APN settings as they were blank but managed that.
But I am now getting an Error manage when I try and connect to WIFI.
I have searched around here and all the problems seem to relate to updates to 2.2 and gold cards.
My phone was already on 2.2 and I have never used a goldcard in my life....not even sure what one is.
Anyone any ideas how to fix this??
Thanks guys

Get a SD card reader?
i don't have one, is there another procedure through the phone?
No need for card reader. I did it using the one in rom manager, but as you are not able to use this, i would go with the pushed recovery from the older rooting methods from modaco. You just enter the black recovery screen with the !
Then your insert the cable, and run a batch file on your computer. This recovery should have the ability to partitionate.
just search for the r5 root or pm me for link (cant post links as i'm a new user)
You must use the file called "recovery-windows.bat" or the one for your system.
but if you have clockwork installed, the black screen with <!> will not appear becaus clockwork recovery is loaded automaticly.
if i push the recovery from the r5-root img (while beeing in clockwork recovery) it seems like there are both recoverys running at the same time.
how can i uninstall clockwork recovery or block it from beeing autostarted ?
It doesn't. Normally it boots into normal recovery, and then you have to apply update.zip (which is Clockwork Recovery). THEN it boots into CMR.
ye it is because you have flashed the unrevoked permanent recovery. I prefer the fakeflash as it is easy to change and work just as well.
In that case if there is another easy method to format the sd other than using your computer. I have seen som suggestions on using the amonra recovery.. You could try that.
And i only think you can remove the permanent recovery by flashing stock ruu for now, but then you will have to reroot, as it also unroot the device.
pain in the arse isn't it.. I came across this exact dilemma today
hopefully the unrevoked guys will sense this and make some changes on their next release?
Ok managerd to do it by flashing the ROM
Thanks for your help guys

yes that would be why

you should have thought about it.
only thing I can think of is trying to flash a official HTC RUU update so you will get back to stock and will have to re-root.
If you have wiped everything and re-flashed then I dont know what else to suggest.

Yeah, I guess that its my best chance. Do you know which files that has to be on the SD for fake-flash and where I can find them?
just need the update.zip on the root of the card.
Have u tryed using AM recovery?
If u load it like the clockwork recovery u can partiotion your sd-card in recovery mode,
works every time for me ;-)
http://www.multiupload.com/61STV8CPHL <-- fake flash version just like clockwork but whit partitioning options.

Yes that could work, if the ROM you have flashed requires a ext partition, it will boot loop if you dont have a SD card in. So use clockwork to re-partition the card with a ext.

Im on DeFrost right now, does it require ext? I have to find a micro sd reader then I get right on partitioning.
Edit: I've been thinking if this don't work. Is it possible for someone to make an image of their full rom so that I can try and flash that? Because what I've understood the ones that are up for downloading e.g. DeFrost are not 100% complete.
Maybe some developer know's what could cause a boot loop so I (with some help) could make a flash containing just those files.
u can also try booting recovery, mount SD-USB..
remove update.zip from your root sd.
Place the file i posted above in your root (rename to update.zip ofc's)
Restart phone and enter recovery again (now u get a new recovery) go to partition menu and repartition your SD.
I loooove this forum! Thanks for all the help people, reformat the sd solved my problem. Thanks a thousand times!

[Q] HELP!!!

So, I am pretty new to rooting. But i really effed up. I rooted my phone, got rom manager, and was having a great time. I tried to download a rom, it didnt work and the screen just got stuck on htc evo 4g all white screen. So, retardedly i decided it would be a good idea if i formatted everything in the boot screen, including my memory card. Is there anyway to fix this, or am i soh?
If your recovery is not there when you boot into it, you'll have to flash another one.
If you can get to recovery, just wipe everything and flash a different ROM already on your SD card, or put one on there through the recovery menu
P.S. Already answered this in the other thread you posted.
Yea sorry, i realized that other one was posted in the wrong section...ssooooo...im a little dumb at this....can you kinda give me a step by step...because i mean everything on the phone is wiped out...i went to town on the formatting...i reformatted everything...so now my phone boots into fastboot...i can get to recovery, but since theres nothing on my sd card it doesnt much.
Since you can get into recovery, go to USB toggle (something like that) and mount your sd to your computer.
Put a ROM on the root of your sd card
- unmount the sd
- Wipe everything
- Flash the rom
forgive me for my slowness...
when you say on the root of my sd card...you basically mean just on the sd card right?
And should I just download the original rom that comes stock on the phone?
Yes, in no folders
and no, choose whatever
I recommend a kommydroid rom, they are very good
alright great...so i'm gonna give it a try in a couple of hours...is it ok if I pm you with any problems I'm having since you seem to have a good handle on this stuff?
also...when you say wipe everything what do you mean by that exactly?
Wipe cache...wipe dalvik cache...
Drag and drop rom zip file to sd card, choose install zip from sd with recovery...then choose "choose zip file" or something to that effect. Then pick the zip that you dropped on your sd card. Choose "install"...let it do it's thing. Once that is complete, choose reboot and you should be fine. As long as you can get to your recovery your phone is fine.
He means(Data, cache, dalvik) at least twice. You are using Amo-ra?
nah, i'm using the one that comes stock with the phone...i can't remember the name, and now i feel like a retard since i cant remember what its called.

Clockwork recovery?
YES!!!...yes there ya go...clockwork recovery
Thank you guys for all your help ...I got everything up and running

need help fast! stuck on incredible screen

So my phone now will only reboot up to the HTC Incredible white screen. I'm not even sure what the issue is, all i did last before it got stuck was erase data on an old sd card i had in the phone. Then I just did a reboot and it froze on the white screen.
I'm running GB evervolv 2.3.2 with 2.6.37.4 incredikernel.
I can get into HBOOT but when i click on recovery it takes me into fastboot everytime.
What can i do to fix this????
Sorry please move this thread to the Q&A section, i thought that's where I was posting it, my bad.
Go to the Clockwork Recovery thread and download the update for a different version and try getting that to flash via bootloader. That way you can at least get into recovery if you need to flash new. Just to clear it up, did you use your phone to delete stuff off the old card, by using Astro or ES file explorer? I know ES file explorer has root access so is there a chance you could've deleted a system file on accident? All it takes is a click of the SD card icon and you're in root instead of SDcard. Also this is probably a thread more for the Q&A subforum, just an fyi
i deleted an old sd card that i don't even use for my phone, i was just putting it in there to clear out whatever was left on it. so i could use it new.
And it still bootloops even when you put your normal SD card back in?
yup, i dunno what it's deal is.
I remember an older version of cm7 on the nook color warned against formating sd cards because it accidentaly formats the boot partition, this may be a bug that exists in the rom your using.
at least you can get into hboot, you should be able to download ruu image and flash it in hboot. this would get you back to stock, then root and install clockwork, and then restore your latest nandroid.
Flash this recovery in hboot
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/recovery/clockworkmod/PB31IMG.ZIP
It should at least give you a working recovery.
i have to rename things as update.zip in order for hboot to flash them right??

NO leave it PB31IMG.ZIP.
hboot can only see that name. if you rename it hboot will not see it at all.
also make sure your card is formatted as FAT32
got it into recovery so i'm just wiping and restoring, thanks for the help!
ok now i'm getting a bootloop on the cm7 boot screen...i just went to flash that new instead of my nandroid because the nandroid was from an older rom.
Did you wipe everything? Davik, Cache, Data, etc?
wiped data and cache...didn't do davik because i've never had to in the past. but i'll give it a try.
would i need to update CMW from version 2.0+ to 3 in order for cm7 to work? because it's still bootlooping
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO ME!
i was on MIUI 1.3.25 (the newest GB release) and i was formatting an sd card and when i restarted my phone i got stuck at the splash screen! i have been able to boot back into cwm recovery but even when i wipe and flash, nothing works.
i booted into recovery and tried to restart from there - failed
i reflashed 3.18 (wiped cache/dalvik) - failed
i wiped all data and reflashed 3.18 - failed
wiped all, flashed 3.25, fixed permissions - stuck at splash screen again
restored an old MIUI (v1.1.15) - stuck at splash screen
pleaseee let me know if you figure this out
edit:
i ran the RUU and got stock to start working. i'm about to root and try flashing something

Are you getting errors when you wipe?like when you wipe data does it say error can't mount or anything like that.... I have a feeling you may have to flash an Ruu and then reroot
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
no, no errors. but i flashed the RUU and rerooted and everything works just fine. I flashed MIUI again and it worked perfect
thanks!
I figured that's what you would have to do glad you are back running

I always mount my sdcard in a linux and format/fix/repartion, or at least let Clockwork Recovery do it. I have never found a Sense, Vanilla, or AOSP ROM that handled SD partition operations very well, without at least a little tragedy.

This tends to be things go as far as ROMs partitioning my sd, always back it up externally and format/partition before transferring stuck back over to it while in phone.

how to get a clean slate

Hey folks
I have had my evo since day 1 and rooted on day 3.
I do not recall what method I used to root or anything for the matter.
anyways, what I want to accomplish right now is to clean my SD
I am seeing alot of folders with nothing it, others with 1 file in it.
Beside that, it's all through my SD card
Also, not sure if it is recommended, but I like to reset or clean out the internal memory as well.
to make it easier, I want to delete everything. like a full format, even if I have to unroot. I dont mind re-rooting and putting a new ROM in.
I just want to make sure, when I flash a new rom, all the stuff in my SD from before is gone!
did that make any sense? if so, how can I accomplish this
(oh and the reason I am doing this, my phone has been acting weird lately. EPST isnt working, tons of force close, im draining battery like crazy... I am seeing new "apps" in my task manager...etc...
(incoming metaphor)
so, like a computer
I just want to format my entire HD, reinstall window XP and have nothing saved from my previous time (except phone # which is saved with google)
Best way is to run a RUU and then format your sdcard
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
You can format your sd card from within a Rom and will wipe it clean. When you wipe all data in recovery, it wipes your internal memory.

This makes no sense to me atm, than again I am thinking as if this is a PC....
if I was to format my SD card which also wipes my internal memory, than how do I boot back into my phone since the rom got formatted???
I like to format but I also need to know what files do I need to put back in the SD card to run my phone again
When you format your SD Card, you can still boot up and the necessary files will write themselves to the SD Card.
The best thing is to run the RUU for your phone.
Here's a link to all the ruu's. Bookmark this site, btw. He keeps it updated.

Running RUU means restoring the phone to out-of-the-box condition.
If by day one you mean Evo Release day, then you rooted with Unrevoked. IF I Remember correctly, running the ruu will not make your phone S-On, so you can reflash recovery (I advise Smelkus Amon Ra Style) and then wipe everything and flash the ROM you want to use.
Of course, since you'll be using a newly formatted SD Card, you'll have to put a recovery on the card so it'll be there for you to flash.

ok so what do I download in that RUU list?!?
idk what I am looking at lol
Andriod 2.2
Baseband version 215.00.09.01
Kernel: 2.6.32.24-king-havs-ocuv
ROM: VirusROM AnthraX RC1
PRI 1.77_003
PRL: 60687'
software # 3.30.651.2
as far as root method: I dont recall which one I used.
IIRC isn't Unrevoked a .exe file or app and you press the button and it unroots it for you??? If so, I didn't use that. I had to go through a long way, I remember reading a how to guide with pictures.
ClockworkMod
TitaniumBackup
I looked back at my previous post history
Im rooted, nand unlocked and was on fresh.
