When I was looking at some roms for my epic I saw that someone had switched their prefered network to other rather than sprint. I was wondering if anyone knew how to switch the network. A method that does not require rooting would be prefered but not required. Thanks in advance.

Buy Roam Control from the market, you need to be rooted, but this will easily do the job

Roam Control is well worth the money.
Its worth noting though that roaming data speeds are 1x, not 3G. But this is super handy if you just need voice coverage.
Cool. Will try it next week. Suppose to be relesing 2.2 update (finally). Thank you for your help, you guys are the best.

I don't know if it's a dk28 thing or my rom but roam control screwed my phone so bad. I had to do a restore. Even reflashing the rom wouldn't fix it.

works great for me.
running dk28, rooted.

No idea what happened to mine. Even my bluetooth flipped out on me. And yes I'm rooted running viper rom.

I've never had a problem and I've used it on every kernel released or leaked. Did you select your phone model in the options tab of the app? Otherwise I don't know why out screwed your phone up. Right now I'm on viper 3.0.3 and it works flawlessly. I use it allllllll the time too.

Works great on DK28.. even with a modified PRL for VZW 3G roaming makes it better. Sprint 3G sucks in my area, I'm lucky to get 70-80 kilobits. Most of the time its 20 or so.

I read in another thread that using this a lot will get your account cancelled.
Is this true? If so, please include an info source (link) if possible.
I get rather crappy signal while I'm at home, so I'm interested in this app, but I'm usually using voice calls while I'm at home, so I don't want to get myself canceled for roaming during 90%+ of my voice calls.
Thankx for any info.

Spoke too soon...after a few hours of being installed, i opened up roam control and it forced closed, rebooted my phone and my app drawer is empty.
I paid for this app, and any roaming I force upon my phone gives poor data...
Apparently one bar of sprint is better than 4bars of roaming mystery carrier.

I too did have it working until I rebooted. Good luck getting it working again. I sent him an email requesting a refund since he says he will offer a 24 hour refund policy in his description on the market even after the market change.

It's because VZW has a 1x roaming agreement with Sprint (meaning sprint phones can only roam with 2G, not 3G connections).
Does any one know if this will work with U.S. Cellular? I had VZW before i got my Epic so its of no help to me if it will not work with U.S. Cellular, there is a deedspot i'm in a lot & Sprint works better than VZW does but only U.S. Cellular works consistently

I see no one has responded to the US cellular question?? Just hoping maybe now someone has figured it out. The app says not to use it with them so I have not bought it yet I tried emailing the developer no response. I see some people having trouble with it also does this app even still work??
So where I live I have to roam to have decent reception, and mikfroyo doesn't have the affiliated only option like cyanogen has, is there a app or anything to force roaming ?

Roam control in the market. It is a paid app.
Only problem is you will be stuck using 1xrtt.
Any free apps? or manual way to do it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
The only way is to root and use Roam Control.
Or you could call sprint customer service, tell them your problem, and ask for an Airave, which will give you signal in your house. They should give it to you for free if you convince then and ask nicely.
you could hack the verizon network with one of their prl's, theres a thread in dev for doing that
would work fantastic if its verizon that your roaming on at home

I don't believe so. In fact this issue is what helped nudge me to learn to root in the first place. Do it, you won't regret it. It gives you so much more control over your phone.

You should be able to change to a verizon prl without rooting. There's a thread in dev section on how to update it manually. Check it out might be what you need.

Only problem is, will they get pinched for doing that by Sprint eventually since it's going to be on Verizon more or less always. And, it'd prevent them from getting proper data service. Unless there's a way to switch PRLs on the fly I'm not aware of.

No way to switch on fly and I've been using a 0001 prl for over a month now. And used roam control constantly for about two months before that and never had any issues with sprint.

I read somewhere that we get 800mbs a month on roaming before you get flagged, then i think they offer you an airrave cell tower, after that i think they terminate ur contract (free of ETF *wink* *wink*)
EDIT: which is why Roam Control rocks, solid 1x is better than nothing
Correct and people have been terminated for that reason. Just root and get roam control from the market. Its simple too root. And roam control works great. I find myself in areas with 1 or no bars of service and goes up too 4 or 5 when roam control is on

Should I be expecting an Airrave then, I stream hbogo and am on xda and other games all the time on a different prl? Can't beat getting free stuff. Only thing is it won't help me out at work

I'm interested in being able to roam on Verizon, since Sprint is a POS at my school and home, and I'm constantly loosing messages, and data speeds are very sad. Anyways, I did a quick search and found a guide on changing the PRL to Sprint's "Corporate PRL" which apparently grants roaming with 3G data on Sprint, but it seems as if though that guide is old (Sept 19 from last year) and I'm not sure it'll work on my ROM (AOKP JB) So, does that guide still work? Is it safe? If no, what are my other options?
Also, how much minutes/texts/data usage would piss off Sprint? I've been meaning to switch for a while now...

I don't want to get too deep into this since there is a PRL thread in the forums, but doesn't that one force you to roam all the time? Sprint has a roaming limit of something like 200MB a month; if you go over that they can and frequently will cancel the rest of your contact. Some people do that on purpose, which I don't recommend or advise. If you just want to use your phone when you don't have much of a signal, use a PRL like 11115 along with the app Roam Control, that way you control when the phone roams.
yes.. oooo2 or w.e is a verizon prl roaming 100%.. i used the sprint corp prl i think 11124 or something which wasnt roaming while set to home only. but would have verizon 3g while in roam only with roam control which is compatible with jb now... however if using verizon eventually u will get a call from sprints roaming team.. and the prl thread is right. just need to be on a tw rom and when u go back to a aosp rom prl will stay until u update it

I use the 11119 PRL that works great when I'm roaming... I roam on Verizon with 3g data and everything, but I'm on Sprint the rest of the time. It works great.

yea... 11115 & 11119 are older versions of 11124.. 11115 did best for me.. got call from sprint but got my airvana back so no need to roam here anymore

Hello, I have a question for all the tmobile users here.
I am currently on Sprint with a note 3, everything was going great with Sprint until I moved out into the county. I have been here for a year now, no cable, dsl, 4G lte on Sprint's spectrum, Wimax, fiber obviously, and no other reliable sources. Sprint is available here and all I have been getting is 3g until recently...now I'm stuck with 1xRTT. My only other option is satellite and I just can't bring myself to do that and I'm done waiting for Sprint's "Spark" since it will take years for them to actually update the towers and roll out any kind of improved network in my area. Sprint is upgrading towers now hence the drop in signal but this has been going on for months now. Lte is in the area maybe 5 minutes out but not on my property at all. They want to combine their three bands into one, providi g 40-50% more data coverage but we all know thats a big dream to come...if ever. Verizon LTE works here along with at&t's LTE (I understand Verizon sold them their lte spectrum on lower blocks and now tmobile), and T-mobile works with hspa+ but I have not tested lte yet, either way hspa+ would be amazing for me compared to 1xRTT.
My question for you is this, if I make the switch to Tmobile and bring over my domestic unlocked note 3 with the sim kit and start fresh as a new customer on the unlimited data plan and I reach my soft cap of 3gigs, how bad do they really throttle you? I guess I want to ask if they really check up on you and if the throttle speeds are equivalent to 1xRTT or faster? I'm just trying to figure out if it'd be worth the switch, I could handle the throttle if edge is a better punishment than 1xRTT. A good friend of mine works for tmobile and says the throttle is very real and that tmobile will know exactly when I reach my soft cap or if my phone is even rooted (doubtfull) and if I try to use a hot spot mod. I have been with Sprint for 8 years (too long) but it was nice to always have unlimited data with no cap or throttle if and when you actually had service, so my knowledge and experience is only with Sprint.
Can someone please help with some of your personal experiences?
Thank you!

Edge is .08 mbps download not really usable. I've used hot spot hacks for a year with no problem .
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks Mike, are you on the newer $20 unlimited 4G, or are you grandfathered on the older unlimited data plan? Also when you used the hot spot hack are you throttled still or is it just when you use it normally?
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've never been throttled. I'm on the unlimited $20 that does not include tether . When I'm in a 2g area it's basically unusable data

Okay awesome, thanks for the feedback and help
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you get the unlimited data plan you won't be throttled and if you root your phone you'll be able to bypass throttling limits. The only way for T-Mobile to know you're rooted is if you have the T-Mobile app installed. It can tell if you allow it to run a diagnostic on your phone.

Ah I see, so does any particular rom help in that aspect or just simply need to be rooted with SU and use a wifi tether mod/app?
I'm already rooted and am running a rom on my Sprint note 3 and I'll be using a T-Mobile sim so it sounds like I'll be good to go.
The T-Mobile app makes sense to why they would even know in the first place, maybe running AOSP would be safest?

Most roms do at this point. I recommend tweaked nf1,, doesn't get any better than it.
