Custom ROMs you mean?? ARHD is the best at the moment! Your top priorities are met!
Also please take a look at the "no sound" thread, this is related to the telus desire hd, there are a few thing you need to know before rooting and flashing.

Hello everybody!
My question is simple.
Should i wait for the official Froyo for my HTC Desire, or should I usw a custom Rom from this Board?
I am very disappointed with the battery-time of my normal stock 2.1 rom...
My Desire just lasts for about one day with normal usage.
Is the battery-life going to be better with the official froyo (an with roms out of the section of rom-cooking in this board) ?
Would you recommend me to wait for the official Rom, or not?
Are there some reasons against an unofficial froyo-rom?
Wich rom you would recommend at the moment?
(dont need htc-sense...)
Thanks for you help, and sorry for bad english
If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend checking out "Juice Defender" in the Marketplace. You can fine tune your APN/WIFI settings and such to get much more out of your battery. Best of all it's free. If that doesn't satisfy your battery hungry needs then I suggest you stop listening to my advice as I know squat about custom Roms. What I do know though is that battery life is reported to be greatly improved in Froyo.
Even if you wait for official froyo, the devs here will make it better and add more features make it faster etc and you'll be back here in no time you can always unroot your phone of you change your mind.
the proper answer world be depends on how you use your phone, I too would suggest using "Juice Defender" if your battery needs are not met, however note that even if you w8 for the official froyo rom you will probably not notice a major power saving effect over the existing rom. In fact I doubt that you will notice any improvement in battery life whatsoever considering you seem to be a proper power user.
Some custom roms run less services/process so you will be able to save up some battery life, its the only proper way too cut down on power consumption I would imagine the closer to the vanilla system the better.
With HTC straight out lying about the release date for the update (as usual), yesterday I took the plunge and have moved over to DeFroST after rooting.
Based on my initial impressions, battery life has improved. Rooting opens up the possibility of using the brilliant application that is setCPU to very finely tune many battery consuming aspects of the device and should make 48hrs achievable without switching off push and sync. There's a thread in the dev section about this.
I would do it. DeFroST is a brilliant ROM, but there are plenty of gems in the Dev section

I'm guessing you needed an unlock code to upgrade your radio since your on orange?
i flashed yesterday and , oh boy, what can i say - its great.
you root your phone with unrevoked, then flash a custom rom, then the new radio ( for froyo ). easy, peasy, painless. froyo kicks ass, i chose leedroid and its so speedy, an battery life has improved, altough not too much i think
@ bedeabc
When did HTC lie about the release date:???: the only official announcement I heard was 3rd quarter... there is still weeks/months to go yet. Any reply you see posted via some ones uncle who told my mother that apparently honest to god customer service said two weeks...is not 'official' lol.

So, you guys think, that its not be worth, to wait for the official froyo?
There will not be some "new" things, i will miss in the froyo, I can get in den Dev-Area?
Cause i dont like it, to change the rom every 2 month ;-)
ATM I have a rooted desire with ocuv kernel.
Untouched radio.
Is the upgread "heavy"? (dangerour, time-expensive?)
Thanks for all of your Help
I just upgraded to Froyo, Android 2.2, yesterday.
Well i think i love it. Extra functions and the speed is incredible.
When rooting & new rom - do you lose HTC Sense?

Well me personal I'm waiting, if I had a branded phone I probably wouldn't wait as it'll be X amount of weeks after HTC release until you carrier release its version with bloatware.
I am obviously one of those easily satisfied people, I think its a great phone as is with just a few tweaks here and there (voice search, keyboard etc..) which didn't even require root

depends on the new rom. If it has Sense you don't lose it Rooting doesn't concern Sense or anything else on interface
what's important for everyone who's considering to move on new froyo sense roms (2.06) - they're stable and fast, I'm using them for a week and haven't noticed one error or reboot.
You can try them out and then decide for yourself whether to return to eclair, or use them until htc releases official version. I'm certain you will choose second option

you should check the radio thread in development subforum, last version of radio doesn't lock Orange phones...
Hi all,
I have a rooted HTC Desire, with DeFrost ROM installed.
1. I wanna ask about, is that true if an Official Froyo for Desire HD/Z can be installed for old Desire too?
2. I was wondering, why Desire Z have a better performance rather than old Desire? Even those Desire Z have a low end spec rather than Desire?
3. Can old Desire supporting HD movie/games? like Desire Z/HD?
Thanks a lot for the answer..
It's lower in terms of processor speed but the processors are next generation to the original Desire so perform the same at a lower frequency.
Put the HD ROM onto your Desire and see how you like it - it's very good

Hoo..
Where can i get the HD ROM? Do you mean any Costum ROM from Sub: Desire HD?
Use the search function
I don't think you can use any rom that was made for the Desire HD/Z on your desire because of the different kernel, the different screen size and other factors.
Just use one of the 3 HD ROMs currently up in the Dev forum, I'm using RCMixHD now and its awesome

What about battery life?
Normal like normal rom of Desire?
Or it uses much more energy?
I find it the same as stock 2.29.405.2 with my normal usage
So here's the plan:
I am getting the Sensation once it's rooted and price is 600$ and less, so I guess July?
In the waiting period I want to have fun with an htc device with plenty of roms, I still don't know if I get a Desire or DHD, so if you can help me:
-Which one has a louder speaker for ringtones?
-Better screen under sunlight?
-Overall quality/design
-Battery life?
I am afraid of the DHD weight while it's just 30g more
Also buying it will cost 100$ more but reselling in 2 month?
The DHD has the better screen, but lower battery life. But with a costume kernel you can safe battery. I have a Desire and I'm not dissapointed. But why can't you wait until august?
Btw: I think the DHD has louder speakers...

Bigger doesn't actually mean better. DHD has the same SLCD screen as Desire packed with the same resolution on 0.5" larger screen, which gives greater dot pitch which is never a good thing in the terms of image quality.
For the battery life I would consider them roughly equal, despite the larger screen DHD has more energy efficient hardware.

surely the fact you can pick up a Desire cheaper is better in the short term?
although waiting would be the best option imo
Already sold the Arc!
I am going to the mobile shop after lunch, I will see if the DHD is too big and heavy or not, if it's too much for me I will pick a Desire, as simple as that
I have a slight preference for DHD because I am afraid the Desire will be a sort of return to my old device (N1) so perhaps little boring while the DHD has some upgraded hardwares and Sense 3.0 weather rom
Even for 1.5/2 months

I'd choose none of those lol...if you really can't wait i'd recommend a nexus s, dhd has a decent cpu but the gpu still is quite suckish even compared to the one the sgs packs.
Btw, looks like the sgs II will own the sensation big time, plus it has unlocked bootloader and it has been rooted already...
I got the desire and the DHD and I have to say desire is better to use cos you can in fact use it with one hand. 0.6 inches really makes a difference.
The screen on dhd just looks like a stretched desire to me. I installed the DHD rom on my desire and a 32 gig card with a 4 gig ext and basically, no issues whatsoever.
so i sold my dhd and got an ipod touch and glued it to the back of my desire!
If it is only for waiting..Desire should be your solution.
Desire is still a good phone and it is cheap especially the second handed ones.....and..who knows you can still found the old one with AMOLED....
Or the newer white one...

There are plenty of ROMs such as InsertCoin, RCmixHD, etc.
Instruction? Just like any other custom ROMs.
I recommend InsertCoin Data2Ext or InsertCoin Data++.
I am using InsertCoin Data2Ext and still not tempted to try others at the moment, it is the best I have till now ('ve tried LeeDroids, MIUI, RCmixHD, etc.)
I am now waiting an 100% working, relatively bug-free, and stable Android 2.3 new-Sense ROM.
One great advantage of the DHD is that HTC started the rollout for official Gingerbread for the DHD!
Bought a DHD!
I don't regret a sec
Great roms for that great device, I am getting 2200 pts in quadrant when I had 1400 max with Nexus one
ill sell u my htc desire unlocked if u want
Hi all
I am looking at selling my Desire having got a Galaxy SII now.
I had rooted and love CM7 on it but want to get it back as close to stock for the potential purchaser and avoid any "support" issues.
The last stock ROM I tried performed terribly in terms of battery life ... can anyone recommend a stock ROM that performs well on an Orange UK ROM.
Hi
I am just wondering if someone could help me to find a best Aosp rom for my htc wildfire GSM for best battery, performance, smooth as I am new and might be this question asked before but would like to get help and will appreciate.
I am using HTC Desire as well and found GingerVillain is best for battery, performance and stability, then redux, miui and oother few comes.
Hope to get a list of best roms.
Cheers

Complete Wildfire Index By 3xeno
For Wildfire you can try out RemPuzzle. Froyo 2.2.1. It is a sense-based ROM. It has a good battery life and is extremely smooth.
Or you can also try out a latest nightly from the Nightly Builds Thread. GB 2.3.7. CM7 has never been smooth for me on my Wildfire but it also has a good battery life. You can try it.
And no stable MIUI for Wildfire.
cm7 or miui
Of course, for taste ......
After trying many roms, for me that does not give problems is the original of Cianogen Froyo.Las have always given me problems of synchronization of Bt
Greetings.
For me the "best" is not available to comment on as each user has his/her own preferences. I have found that making my own version of mixed components has left me needing nothing in the Rom I've got now. Hybrid/aosp/sense all rolled into one lol. Love it.
P.s with the added pleasure of skygo when desired.
