unless you have any bugs that you don't know the cause of, i'd assume its safe to delete them

Dont think I have any but need to be absolutely sure these files can be deleted, thanks for your reply all the same

i have deleted those files ...many times ...absolutely no problems... they are just some kind of log files...with...bugs so enjoy the free space

Thanks for the reply Saluco & AndroHero, can delete these now without worry, cheers

May i know, what is the directory for bugreport? Seems that i can't find it..

Alot of useless stuff in \Windows directory.. I freed up 8MB

There is alot of useless stuff in Windows dir and some of them can't be deleted
* Why the hell should help files and pictures for all programs is stored automaticly in windows dir?
* And there is a dir called AppMgr with 3 MB stuff useless inside
* Big today themes, Big pictures and even some 3gp/mp4 videos in there
I moved the help files to my Storage Card, replaced the BIG (2MB) themes with some smaller one, But there are some stuff which can't be overwritten I need help with (ex. I want to move powerpoint and some other programs to my Storage Card)
Is there a manual for which file is harmless to remove from windows dir? and how to do it?
Need advice

This is one thing that also ticks me off. I absolutely hate programs that install anything anywhere but the installation directory of the program. Some programs just install the help file right in the same dirctory, and it works fine there. It makes it so much easier to delete all the stray junk left behind, and programs that do not install crap everywhere can easily be moved by just moving the directory. This is the essence of clean software. This is how it works on a Mac, and I will be damned if anyone can prove to me that it is so much better to litter my entire computer with crap everywhere.

Well apprently I am not helping you.. just asking :how did you succeed replacing the 2m Themes ? It won't let me do it.
Tks
I gave another theme the same name as the one in windows dir and overwritten that using Resco Explorer

Not sure, but isn't the AppMgr folder used for the Remove Programs function?

It is, and you may safely remove/relocate it to somewhere else. You'll only need it again when you uninstall a given app. Please see for example http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?p=775972 for more info.

Thanks for that info. However, keeping the AppMgr folder may not be useful for uninstalling if you are in the habit of restoring your device from a backup - as I do. Installations appear to use unique IDs that are not recreated when the backup is restored, so subsequent uninstalls (and upgrades with enforced uninstall) fail.
Are you sure you've overwritten the big themes. My guess they were in your rom & all you did was putting a small theme in ram. Costs you only memory then...

I've the same opinion. This is probably what you did. You can't overwrite files in ROM. In case you can, it will not help you with clen RAM :-(

On a Mac you do get some associated files ( app prefs or plists, or other support files and some plug-ins) installed in other places asides from the application dierctory or folder, however these are usually minimal and still easily found & deleted if required.
This is one of the difficulties any Mac user finds with Windows and probably why more switch from Wintels to Apples than vice versa....
ahem.. anyway back to WM5...

No. You CAN overwrite files with Resco. Me too. I did it many times.
And you are not right. It will help you not exactly to clean the RAM, but speedup your PDA, because WM5 uses not just RAM for calculating, but storage memory too for extracted files which need it, or when you install an application from your PC, the installer .exe file first copy its .cab file to your storage memory. You can check it when you install something. Look at the size of your Storage when it asks to choose where to install, and look after program installed.
someone should write an application that automates this. notify the maker of tweaks2k2 or vijay555
Can you tell me what happens when you delete a file which was supposed to be written in rom, keep a copy of it somewhere else. I know WM5 differs from 2K3, but I can hardly believe that you can cause severe damage to your CE rom. & on my magician I can 'overwrite' CE-rom files with ram files, but when I delete them the original CE-rom file shows again.
So by overwriting a large theme in rom with a small theme, as has been claimed, I guess you always loose space unless you can also delete the original theme from the rom. & if that's possible why overwrite it, instead of deleting it straight away?
Get my point? I'm not an unbeliever, just not convinced that you don't loose some kind of precious storage.
Regards, M
Thought about .tmp files:
I have a TyTn and my storage memory is down to about 23mb. I was exploring my device with Resco Explorer and explored \Windows\AppMgr. There were a lot of folders in the directory, mostly application folders that I installed in my device. There is also a folder named \Install (\Windows\AppMgr\Install). The \Install folder contains .cab files that are 8mb large. the app folders in \AppMgr contains .dll and .tmp files. I deleted ALL the .tmp files and the .cab files and my available storage memory is now 34mb. There were no negative effects with such deletions even after a few resets and application launching.
I believe that the .tmp files were created during installs and the .cab files were copied when installing files to device memory.
Hope this will help those with low storage memory. Just be sure to make a backup before deleting the files I mentioned. Thanks.

Dummy 0 KB Files

There are many useless files in the Windows directory that cannot be deleted, however, you can replace them with some 0 KB files. Here are 46 useless files that will free up more than 10 MB of space. There are more useless files, although the file sizes aren't as large as these, but feel free to add/post them. Always backup the original ones in your computer just in case you want to restore them.
To replace these files, copy them to the phone's internal storage with ActiveSnyc, then use Total Commander to copy them to the Windows directory.
You sure?
Just one question... if they're 'useless' files, why are they there? Surely some application somewhere will need them - or am I missing something obvious here

The 46 files that I consider them useless are sample images, ringtones, and a few .cab files. The Album Sample_01.jpg to Album Sample_11.jpg images alone are worth a few MB. For the ringtone, I only use one, so all the others are useless. Finally, there are some .cab files that were used only during the initial setup of the phone, and once they're used, these .cab files won't be used again.
OK...
Cheers... I'm with you. Didn't realise there was all that crap on there. Mind you, I'm using AZTOR's ROM, so he's probably removed all the 'junk' already!
If these files can't be deleted then they're in the ROM.
Replacing them with 0KB versions does not save any disk space and is completely pointless - unless you are deliberately trying to remove functionality.

Are you sure? When I replaced those files, the free space showing under Memory -> Storage has increased.
To help this man.
What this .cab does it's overwrite existing "installations files", does that appir on first boot. (When you install opera).
This cab, overwrite the installations file, so it not fill up your diamond with old used installations files.
.. And thanks for sharing the cab with us. :=)

not likely alzphazero's philosophy is to keep everything as close as possible... meaning no image optimization / removal / changes...

No I'm not sure... I just assumed they were in the ROM given that you said they couldn't be deleted. If they're not in the ROM then this is a valid workaround, though there must be some other way of deleting them.
i was going to make a thingy like this but now i see it already exists im going to use yours
Replacing files in ROM with 0KB will not save any space. I just tried it. The space you saved is from the files which are NOT in the ROM.

[Q] EA sports FIFA 10

I bought and loaded this game in my Samsung Galaxy S.
When I execute it asks: Select "Download" to begin...
Then it says Download in progress... 5% 5/100...
After a long time asks me to retry, again and again...
Sounds like a question for EA.

/system/app contains the pre-installed apps (the ones that you cannot delete normally)
/data/app contains the user installed apps
Anyways what files are you looking for? Im pretty sure your phone has root access, as user level access cannot view whats inside the /data folder.

Safe to delete ".thumbnail" folder?

My internal memory's 50% storage is occupied by .thumbnail folder..I am running short of memory so I need to delete this folder.so is it safe to delete this folder? If I'm not wrong then this folder ONLY contains gallery pictures thumbnails.
〽 ???✌ ?? ????Ⓜ?
It's safe to delete them but they'll only come back next time you open gallery.
Inside the thumbnail folder there maybe a few hidden files (ie file name start with .something) some of these may well be a few gb big in your case. You can just delete them instead of each thumbnail file of about 100kb each.
Before deleteing them, make a note of what they are called and after deleteing them make a folder of the same name to avoid them getting created automatically by gallery.

He means dont delete the .thumbnail folder as it will be recreated. Go into it and delete the huge files over 100kb to make some space.
Those big files in the thumbnail folder. Called something like ".thumbdata3--1967290299" the clue being the data part. They can get very large.
Just copy the name of these files. For example by doing a rename then copy and the whole file name. Delete the file then make a new folder and paste the filename as the folder name.
When later gallery try to automatically generate these thumb data file, it'll find that it cant as there is already a folder of the same name and skip it.
