My internal memory's 50% storage is occupied by .thumbnail folder..I am running short of memory so I need to delete this folder.so is it safe to delete this folder? If I'm not wrong then this folder ONLY contains gallery pictures thumbnails.
〽 ???✌ ?? ????Ⓜ?
It's safe to delete them but they'll only come back next time you open gallery.
Inside the thumbnail folder there maybe a few hidden files (ie file name start with .something) some of these may well be a few gb big in your case. You can just delete them instead of each thumbnail file of about 100kb each.
Before deleteing them, make a note of what they are called and after deleteing them make a folder of the same name to avoid them getting created automatically by gallery.

He means dont delete the .thumbnail folder as it will be recreated. Go into it and delete the huge files over 100kb to make some space.
Those big files in the thumbnail folder. Called something like ".thumbdata3--1967290299" the clue being the data part. They can get very large.
Just copy the name of these files. For example by doing a rename then copy and the whole file name. Delete the file then make a new folder and paste the filename as the folder name.
When later gallery try to automatically generate these thumb data file, it'll find that it cant as there is already a folder of the same name and skip it.

Hey, is there any way of preventing pics/videos in a certain folder showing up in the gallery?

Just put a .nomedia file in the folder where you have the pics and videos you want to hide.
You might already have this file in your sdcard (some ebook reader or other app that has pics not show in the gallery).
If not, just create an empty text file and rename it.

Doesnt work for me... Stil shows the folder.
It definitely works. Either your media files didn't update yet or you don't have a correct nomedia file...

Can confirm. This does work. Try restarting phone.
Tried it with a .nomedia file already but it didn't work. Gonna see if it needs to update though.
Rename the folder to .folder, the whole folder becomes in invisible.
Your other option is to install estrongs security thingy, which allows you lock down apps totally

I found the best way is to create a zip file and store them in that as it cannot see through a zip file. Has always worked for me, hope that helps

Can someone just rename this thread to 'how hide porn and pics of the bird your cheating with'
By the way. The ext partition is a good place to put 'sensitive' material. Gallery wont look there and it wont show up when plugged into a windows PC.

Already tried that but it contains only the apps which come with the original stock rom(stock apps) and not the ones I downloaded..
The apps that u install after getting the device started are not in the system folder but the data folder which can be found in data.rfs.tar
and then in data folder open app u will find them either there or a backup of those somewhere in the .tar file only dnt remeber properly
your downloaded app is stored in data.rfs.tar (if you put them on internal memory) or .android_secure.vfat.tar (if you put them on sdcard)

ty both of u.. srry culdnt press the button cuz i hav reached my limit of 8 thnks
is it safe to place the files in /system/app folder and remove the old ones??
yup...if you already have the newer one its safe to remove the old one. but make sure you delete the odex files too. no need to press that silly button. I'm just a noob here, not a dev.
You can try but when i put vending.apk when 1st open it installing again on /data and operamini.apk can't put on system always force close in my case.
in DXLB and newer firmware market in system app is named phonesky.apk. vending.apk is the older version used in older firmware. we don't need them if we already have phonesky.apk.
Is it possible to keep certain picture files from showing up in my gallery?
My problem is my gallery is flooded with pics from all my UCCW files , very cluttered it is !
Thanks for the help .
Yeah just name them something else the gallery won't be able to show like .txt. or you could mount USB to PC and select and delete any pics you don't want there.

If you create a file named .nomedia and place it in a folder, any pictures in that folder will not be shown in the gallery. There are probably a few .nomedia files in folders on your phone already that you could copy/paste as well.
Either that or use QuickPic

Im having problems trying to delete a folder, when I try delete the folder, it doesn't delete. Ive tried so many different file managers like ES, astro and root explorer etc but they either doesn't delete or it says delete failed. I don't really want to format my card but is there a way I can delete the folder?
Which folder are you talking about?
Its just my own folder, it has Arabic files in them. For some reason when I want to delete that folder it doesn't actually let me delete. These files are just text and images. Not app related files or anything
Probably a virus. You have to delete it using a computer and an app I forgot what it was called.

If you do remember what it is called, please do get back to me, I would rather not format my whole SD card
Here, try this.

Where did you copy this instagramm folder? Try renaming it or moving it to another path on the memory. Also check out if there is a .nomedia file somewhere in the folder or in the folders above (depending on what file browser you use, you maybe have to turn on "Show hidden files"). If you find a .nomedia file, just delete it so that the media scanner is allowed to search for pictures in this folder and all the subfolders..
Setting > App > All > Media Storage
Clear data and cache.
Media rescan.
Settle.

Τhank you so much!! that was the answer!! I found a.nomedia file in the folder of pictures, so i suppose that was the reason why it didn'd show me the files edited after the update.. Thanks again..
You're welcome
