Yea...use ^ app, to get access to system file folder, ect. Then you can long press to copy, or push the copy button at the top, then push the button to switch to sd card, then just paste.
For those who prefer to do things the fun way, a good terminal emulator should work just a well
root explorer works well as does astro for files being moved, copied, etc.

I searched around and couldn't find a definative answer. How can I take my backed up copy of swype from my g2 nandroid backup (or the official rom) and install it after installing cyanogenmod"
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
If you want you could always download the stock rom (check dev forums) and take the Swype.apk out of /system/apps. You're also going to need to get the libSwypeCore.so from /system/lib good luck.
*thanks nvigrass, wasnt sure where it was
it is in /system/lib
here's a thread with some instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837599
I ended up figuring it out with the first post, after figuring out how to open the /system/ nandroid img.

hey thanks man . i got MagicISO but it is not letting me explore the system file, i can't even open it..what'd you use?
Okay here is what I did and it worked. Using SU File manager (found in the market if you search "root explorer") and on the stock ROM, copy the lib and apk files from /system/app and /system/lib. I copied them to the root of my sd card. Wipe everything and install CM and the addon. Grab SU File manager again and find the lib file on your SD card. copy it. There are two little buttons on the top of SU File manager with an S and a D. I pressed both of them to mount system and data as read/write. Go to system/lib and paste the lib file. Verify that it is there and since there are so many files sort by size its like 998kb. Then just use SU File Manager or astro or whatever to find Swype.apk on your sd card. Install it from there. With Astro click it and "open app manger." Then go to keyboard settings and enable it as an input method. Go to swype settings and it should not FC if you did this stuff correctly. Set your settings and enjoy! Oh yea dont forget to uninstall and refund SU File manager

If you are using windows, there is a command prompt application called unyaffs.exe that extracts the whole thing in windows. Might even work in linux with wine

I actually paid for root explorer because its useful enough to be worth the money and someone took their time to write the application. I did use Root Explorer to go in and paste the files into the appropriate directories after getting them extracted.

I got the files, but its not working on Desire Z rom... All it does is force close.. any ideas, anyone?!
you need to make sure the Swype Lib file copied into the /system/lib directory. Even if the app says it copied it, restart the app and navigate to the /system/lib directory and make sure the file is there. Then install swype normally. If the lib file is not successfully copied, swype will FC all the time.
not letting me paste!

So I'm slogging around with a file explorer looking at all the neat stuff in my rooted EVO 4G (rooted only). I see all the canned apps, like the Amazon MP3, Sprint crap - in the /apps folder....
...but where are all my downloaded/installed apps - the ones I haven't been able (or just chose not to) move to my SD card - things like the Astro file browser, or my Wireless Tether -- where are those .APKs? They're not in the same directory as the canned ones.

Depending on your configuration, your "3rd party" apps can be found in the /data/app folder
or
/system/sd/app folder
they are in /data/app
My data folder shows as empty in both ES and Astro. This some sort of file perm thing?

didn't have a system/sd/app folder and the /data/app folder shows as empty with both Astro and ES. I'm guessing it's a file permission thing, why I'm not seeing them with these phone browsers.

Great googly moogly, lots of stuff in there.
I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity of "when I uninstall something, does every little bit of it go away, or does it leave crap in the system?"

I have titanium backup keeping copies to the SD card, plus sending to my dropbox. I'm also keeping copies of my nandroid and ruu there on dropbox, just for sanity sake.
The reason Astro and ES won't show anything in /data/app is because to access that folder in /data, you need Root permissions, which I'm guessing those apps don't get.
As RootExplorer's name suggests, it gets root and so can browse through that folder and others.
How would I go about deleting some of the preinstalled apps in cm7? I read to download titanium backup and do it with that. When I did it using that app, nothing was uninstalled even though it said it was.
There are a few ways. You can do it through a paid app called System App Remover, adb or you can delete the apk's from the zip archive before you flash it. I do a combo between the first and third way. Just to point out, you need to be s-off to do out through the app.

I just delete .apk files from /system using root explorer.
S-off needed for this method.

I have S-off but in my file explorer when I go to syste/app and try to delete those apk files it says that it can't. The titanium uninstall which I did after getting S-OFF, done by some recovery exploit also does not work.

use the latest "root explorer" from the market and make sure superuser allows it
when u open root explorer press the "mount r/w" button at the top to have write access

Although root explorer is well enough to pay money for it, there is a good free alternative called "file explorer". But you have to mount as r/w, too.

Thank you all. If it wasn't for you all I'd be following instructions and not know to mount r/w.
You can use Root_uninstaller_pro_v1.13.apk and uninstall the system application you don't use. I use this app and have no problem.

Direct in the programm you use. To name two examples:
1.) In root explorer you have an extra single button at the top
2.) In file explorer: menu>more>settings>file explorer settings>check root explorer option (and enter superuser request). Go back to root of your sd card. Now menu>more>mount>mount as read write. File explorer should show "access".
Is there an app or a custom rom mod that can silence my camera without having to turn the actual sound down on the phone?
Just delete the audio file or rename it with the extension .bak. You can also do this for the low battery sound. I don't remember the location off hand, but it isn't hard to find if you poke around.
delete or rename /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg

Root Explorer can, assuming you are rooted.
i used to run an update.zip i made after flashing roms, to remove a load of junk apps, install a couple and also remove this click sound.
I've not made a version for the GNex yet though as i havent bothered with custom roms.
Assuming you are rooted? Try Root Explorer - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer
Make sure you click the Mount R/W button first or it will not let you edit the file. I would recommend just renaming the file camera_click.ogg.bak - never know when you'll want it back!
With ES file explorer you can also access the system partition. Just have a look to the options (of course you need a rooted phone).
Thanks to this thread, my camera/camcorder shutter is now silent- but i still have the loud focus-confirm noise. I can't find the file for that in the media folders to rename/delete.
Anybody got an idea for that?
Whenever I try to move a file to internal storage when I connect my phone to laptop, it won't let me transfer. Same thing when trying file explorers on my phone.
ARHD, Elemental Kernel, S-off?
"Won't let me" means exactly what?
Maybe your firewall is blocking it?
Does your device show up as media device in WinExplorer?
What kind of files and size?
Have you tried Superbeam or Airdroid = transfer over WiFI?
Or even better: set up a shared folder (shared with everyone) on your laptop's C: drive, get File Manager HD or ES Explorer on your phone and transfer files via the network share.
